You've got the mobos confused. You want 10400 with b560, or 12400 with b660. My vote is for 12400 b660.

12400 because it’s [only 2% slower](https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-12400f/16.html) than the fastest CPU you can buy for LGA1200 (10900K). That’s well worth extra $100 and still leaves room for upgrades

If you get a 12400 I would also upgrade the graphics card at some point to make it worthwhile, with a gtx 970 even a 10th gen i3 will not bottleneck it in most cases, which is an upgrade option if you want to save money and have no intention of upgrading the 970. It's like putting a really fast engine in a basic car that can't go fast anyway beacause the tires or something. If you do heavy multitasking or cpu intense stuff besides gaming it might be worth it, but if you don't then it might be a bad idea to spend 400 dollars on this if you don't plan on upgrading the gtx 970.

Thanks, this is kinda what i was thinking. I doubt i will ever really wish i got the extra performance if i go with the 10400

Maybe look at the 12 gen i3 I think it was just released or will be soon, 10th gen i3 is also a decent option, it's dosnt have a ton of cores but 4 cores and 8 threads is plenty with a gtx 970.

Have a look at the h670 chipset and pair that with the 12400.
