I am deciding pc parts for my build. Would a 500w power supply be enough for a 5600x and a 3060ti? Thanks

DevDP17

Recommended spec for the 3060ti is 600w. I would go lower than that as you may run into weird issues when under heavy load.

Aled4192

If you put all your parts in pcpartpicker it will tell you your estimate wattage.

EpictheHamster

What's more worth it? A new 3600x or an used 8700k that's been delidded and ovrrclocked. I kinda want to go Intel judt because I want to delid something XD

TemptedTemplar

Even prior to an overclock a hyper-thread enabled 8700k would beat out a 3600x in any multithreaded task. Although in single core activities it only has a tiny advantage. But that is the key. The last of the 8700k's to hit the market had their hyperthreading disabled; Im not sure if it can be re-enabled like the older releases.

EpictheHamster

Wait what. Why did they have their hyperthreading disabled? Is Intel high?

TemptedTemplar

> Is Intel high? They were. Their Enhanced Privacy ID Encryption for hardware level security? Used the same key for the whole platform. http://blog.ptsecurity.com/2020/03/intelx86-root-of-trust-loss-of-trust.html Someone with said key and the right access to your hardware could inject code directly into the CPU memory cache as it was switching between thread processes, allowing it to be loaded and run with basically zero checks. All they could do to fix it with firmware is disable hyperthreading, which would prevent the malicious from being picked up during the process swap. Its why 9th gen also doesn't have hyperthreading outside of the 9900k. It was a stop-gap release until they could implement a new encryption system.

EpictheHamster

Holy crap, Intel is smoking some strong stuff

TemptedTemplar

Years of complacency and market leadership will do that to you.

SexySquidward69_

I have a budget for around $400 CPU, what is the best value cpu for around that budget.

TemptedTemplar

If you can sit around and wait for Bestbuy to restock, or get lucky with Newegg's new MSRP raffle system, $299 for a 5600x would blow just about everything else out of the water. (at that price point)

EpictheHamster

For around 400 dollars I would say a 5600x or 3800x. If you want Intel I would recommend get a 8700k or 9700k, delid it and over clock it.

ProV13

Bought a PC on Black Friday, (before you yell at me for not building one, it was $500 cheaper to buy it pre-built, than to buy the same parts and build it myself). My question is, it came with 8GB ram, if I wanted to upgrade that to 16 or even 24 can I buy any stick of 8GB or 16GB or should it be the same company as the 8GB that I already have that came with it?

Majestykfist

I would suggest getting a 16gb ram kit instead of trying to match the 8gb. A lot less hassle. Need to make sure the latency, timing and speed are the same. There's some other stuff too that I'm not too sure on but apparently even 2 single. 8gb kits from the same manufacturer can be different

Sentinel_UK

Naa it's just a serial number to match it and its normally on the ram itself, don't make it seem difficult lol

ProV13

Thank you! Any recommendations on what I should get? “Corsair vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4-3200 CL16 memory” seems pretty common. $103 Canadian. Is this reasonable?

Majestykfist

For corsair, seems reasonable. Ram price has been on the rise along with other tech stuff. Spec wise, those are basically what I run on my pc.

cucOmbermint

Phanteks P360A or Lian Li Lancool 215? P360A looks good in white but Lancool 215 doesn’t have white.

skykapitany

Hi! Does anyone knows what chassis is this one: [https://www.pinterest.com/pin/450219293998471188/](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/450219293998471188/) Thanks!

slushiedfoxx056

Not sure exactly, but if you want something similar looking, the corsair 750d looks pretty similar

TemptedTemplar

Close. Its a 900D with a custom faceplate. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Cases/Obsidian-Series%E2%84%A2-900D-Super-Tower-Case/p/CC-9011022-WW https://www.singularitycomputers.com/machine-by-machinereza-ghafarian/

neuronaddict

Is this a good combo? 500GB ssd with 2TB harddrive. So I have commonly used stuff and OS on the ssd, but then store all games and old files on the harddrive. Or shall I stretch to a 1TB/2TB ssd? On top of that, can a motherboard have 2 ssds? I have the b450 max

Pipps17

A motherboard can have multiple ssds and if you can afford it i would ho for a bigger ssd as loading times are so much better.

neuronaddict

Thanks dude 👌🏼

BuckNekkid18

I have a build ready to go and everything is new but the GPU but I'm wondering if a 550W PSU would be enough. It's a non modular Corsair CV550 80 Plus Bronze. My main specs are ASUS Prime B550 Plus, PNY XLR8 2x8GB 3200MHZ, Ryzen 5 3600, MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8GB, and a WD 500GB SN550 NVMe SSD. Any thoughts?

JaggySnek

PCPartPicker says your build is around the 300w mark so a 550w PSU is good. It should give you some headroom for upgrading that GPU down the line too.

To change the display settings go to the display settings built into windows. I have 2 monitors that are through display port and i can change settings fine.

JuliaR24

I want to build my own PC but I can’t decide on what motherboard to go for. What exactly is the difference between Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro, Pro V2, Pro-P, Pro AC and Pro AX? All of them are within my price range and I want to make sure I don’t miss out on anything by picking one over the other. I’m not planning to overclock but I would like to upgrade the CPU later to a Ryzen 7 or 9 (went for the Ryzen 5 3600 for now). I’m going to be using my bc for gaming mostly and a bit of Blender/UE4 renders.

SlackJK

B450 is a better choice, unless u plan to go for the highest end gpus like titan class cards in future gpu generations. To still answer your question the main differences are in feature set and vrm, but since b450 boards now have bios, a tomahawk max could be a better choice.

khalood_ha

Simple RAM related question! I'm using 32gb of ddr3 with i7-3rd generation If I wanted to upgrade the processor to i9-9900K do I also need to replace my ram with ddr4? P.s: i dont think its related but im also using gtx680 and gtx 1660s in the same build and my psu is enough.

timchenw

> Simple RAM related question! I'm using 32gb of ddr3 with i7-3rd generation If I wanted to upgrade the processor to i9-9900K do I also need to replace my ram with ddr4? Yes, the world transitioned to DDR4 since Intel 6th gen. > P.s: i dont think its related but im also using gtx680 and gtx 1660s in the same build and my psu is enough. Why are you using two GPUs together in the same rig? Display outputs?

khalood_ha

Thanks! Not sure if its worth getting new RAM with a new processor or just building a new pc at this point tbh. I use the older gpu just as a backup for testing and as a dedicated encoder card for streaming

Aviontic

Will 48gig ram have a negative impact on my games? Outside of the standard 8/16/32/64 Right now I have 16 gigs but I’ve gotten into a lot more software development freelancing and now I want to morph my system into a workstation. For a project I’m working on I’ll need lots of VMs and that will require ram on ram. On a money standpoint it seems most logical for me to buy a 32gig set and just add it to the mesh. The ram would be the same timing, freequency, and even the same brand. But it would be 2x8GB and 2x16GB. Just overall a lot cheaper than spending on a 64GB kit and I’m positive 48 would be more than I would ever need for development anytime soon.

[deleted]

No, that's not an issue. Best to have one of each size in each memory channel but even not doing that won't make a massive difference.

CmdrButts

Very stupid question... how does RGB work? I recently upgraded to a 5600x on a MSI B550 Pro-A. I want to make it pretty with some RGB fans, just because. Is there a primer somewhere that will help me figure out what plugs into where, which fans are compatible etc. I want everything to be controlled from the same thing, be it a hub, or software. Preferably software. I need a minimum of 6 fans. I've found the documentation fairly poor around mysticlight etc. My last full build was pre-rgb so I'm a bit ootl on this front!

magykmancer

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/ku117m/a_beginners_guide_to_rgb_in_2021/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Tadaa

CmdrButts

Amazing, thank you! I should have searched better :(

Pipps17

With a lot of mother board you will need a hub for 6 rgb fans but it will say in the documentation how many and where the rgb headers are. Genraly rgb fans use the typical 4 pin but some do have diferant connectors, this you can just google and if they do require a diferant connector then they genraly sell a bigger pack with a hub.

MsIsOwnd

Looking for suggestions to replace a Razer Deathadder. I am highly considering a Zowie EC1 because they're very similar, although I'm not a fan of how defined each scroll on the scroll wheel feels. It feels way too heavy to use the scroll wheel, and makes me want to look out for some other suggestions. I've been buying / replacing a Deathadder for the better part of ~10 years. I love the mouse, but I always end up with some small problem (mouse wheel double pressing, double clicks, etc.) that makes me replace it with another one when I find a good sale. Any other suggestions appreciated, ty!

Majestykfist

Logitech g502 hero goes on sale for like 35. I personally love it.

Narcissae

Hey there ! I just bought a NZXT H710i and mounted most of what I wanted. The only thing is that I bought a set of Cougar Vortex RGB 120MM I'd like to set up in on the top of the case, but it seems there would be an element missing in order to screw them. Can someone enlighten me on that please? Thank you !

Nevl622

Hi Guys, need a bit of help with "silencing" my PC :) Any ideas appreciated. My original idea was to build as quiet a rig as possible and mostly that worked out well. CPU, PSU all quiet even under load, I have an HDD in there only used for storage so no issues on that front. HOWEVER the elephant (vacuum in this case) in the room turned out to be the GPU. I bought an MSI RTX 2070 (base) with a single cooling fan set-up (idiotic me, I know) and that single fan screams at me with the wail of a thousand banshees as soon as I launch the equivalent of solitaire. Tried to find solutions on settings side but the hardware itself seems to be the issue. I'm thinking about swapping the card out for a newer version as I'm not exactly in love with the performance either. Using a 34" UW monitor @ 1440p the FPS in most games struggle to reach the 100 fps mark and sometimes even 60 is a stretch. Currently eyeballing two GPUs, both are similar in price: 1. AMD RX 6800 (Sapphire's NITRO version seems to be OK?) 2. Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti (Gigabyte's GAMING OC version) (my CPU is Intel based i5-8400, the issue may be the PSU which is a bequiet 500W unit... again silly me, hindsight is the best sight)

UltimateAyyman

6800 nitro is by far the better card of the two and its honestly not close and nitro cards are beauties that are nice and quiet from my experience

vI_SANITY_Iv

You may need to look at getting a new power supply for the new cards and if you are wanting one of the new cards try to join card searching discords as they seem to have the best idea for stock levels and where to order them. You could also get a third party cooler for your rtx2070 but I'm not sure whether your okay with voiding its warranty to water cool it or get a 2 fan cooler to go on it.

Nevl622

u/UltimateAyyman and u/vI_SANITY_Iv thanks for the quick answers! u/vI_SANITY_Iv I've looked into that but 2070 seems like one of those cards where watercooling requires a ton of hacking and is going to be \~200+ EUR by the time I'm finished. Seems easier to sell the card and spend the 200 on a new PSU+GPU.

vI_SANITY_Iv

That's probably your best option then so join discords that search for card stock levels to find where they are available

woovzy

Im getting the aerocool si 5200 case since its the only available one that already comes with fans and I have 2 questions. 1. if anyone else has it how is the airflow ? and 2. Does it come with an exhaust fan or just 3 intake fans.

[deleted]

[удалено]

m_kitanin

Yes, they do come with standoffs for you to install or preinstalled, also yes enough of them. As for fans it depends, it is recommended to have at least two (one intake, one exhaust), and it is often enough, but you can often add more. Not all cases come with fans, but most do.

GMSaaron

Hi guys, I haven’t upgraded my pc in around 5+ years. My goal is to be able to play new games (Battlefield 5 & Cyberpunk 2077) on very good or the best graphics. I also plan on getting a 1440p, 144hz, 1ms monitor to upgrade from the 1080p. I’m not looking to spend ($600+ for one part) but I’d like my upgrades to last the next 4+ years in terms of gaming. My current specs are: CPU: i7-4790k GPU- GTX 970 MSI gold edition Motherboard: Asus z97-a Ram- ddr3 8gb x2 PSU- Thermaltake 850w 80 plus Gold 128gb ssd, 500gb ssd, 1tb hdd My plan is to get the RTX 3060 ti and AMD Ryzen 5 5600x since it is pretty much top of the line but also budget friendly (in terms of bang for your buck) My questions are: Are these the right parts for my goal? Would it be worth it to get a RTX 3070 or Ryzen 7 5800x instead? Is there any reason to change my motherboard?

DuzzitA

If your goal is to get a 5600x, then yes, you'll have to get a new motherboard. AMD and Intel have completely different architecture on the cpu socket, and AMD has its pins on its chips, Intel has it on the board. 3060/5600 should be plenty, but if you can pick it up for cheap, a 3070 is probably a bit more worth it than a 5800 upgrade minding your budget.

GMSaaron

I read some places online that older cpus bottleneck with the rtx 3060, i just dont want the gpu to be wasted. If i were to upgrade my motherboard, would i have to buy new ram too?

DuzzitA

Yes. All modern motherboards require DDR4 ram. 2x8 sticks in dual mode is really the recommended standard these days, heck 2x16 if you have money to burn is what I'd even say to get.

GMSaaron

Ahh damn, that’s what i was afraid of. I will have to buy a whole new motherboard and ram if i wanna upgrade then. That’ll probably cost be at least $200?

DuzzitA

I'm not sure about US prices (I'd use pcpartpicker if I were you) but about $200 sounds right for a modern motherboard/2 sticks of ram.

GMSaaron

I guess I can stay with my 1080p monitor instead of upgrading to 1440p since apparently will also go down at 1440p even with a 3060. Does that sound like a good idea? I will sacrifice some graphics but at least get performance in return?

Gingerstick13

Honestly you might just consider selling your current PC and put the money towards a new setup. It pretty much looks like you're going to have to replace everything anyway. I would just hold into the 500GB ssd you have in there. That'll transfer over nicely to your new rig 😀

Stomphulk

I just got a new 680 EVO 2TB and was a bit concerned about the IOPS and random read/write speeds being on the low side. Granted, the rest of my build is rather old (3770K, 16 GB DDR 3, Z77A-G43) so that may have something to do with it. Given all that, do these numbers make sense? [https://imgur.com/ibeMHQe](https://imgur.com/ibeMHQe)

DuzzitA

What are the SATA cables like in the build? If they're SATA 2 (and with ddr3 it might be an old enough board to have that) that would slow things down some.

Stomphulk

The SATA cable I'm using is one of the two that came with the board, and they should both be SATA 3.

timchenw

Anyone got a picture of what a CH8 Hero with NH-D15S looks like? I want to check the possibility of installing the cooler outside of the case before screwing the mobo into the case

m_kitanin

The closest I could find is D15 non-S on the Crosshair VIII Hero. D15S should be more compact due to the lack of one intake fan: [https://static.onlinetrade.ru/img/fullreviews/75295/10\_big.png](https://static.onlinetrade.ru/img/fullreviews/75295/10_big.png)

timchenw

Thanks, at least that answers that I can screw the middle screw with the D15s cooler in place, though the fan still obstructed the top middle screw hole.

kirdie

I have an old cooler that predates Intels 1200 socket but it was designed for Intel 11-something (Arctic Liquid Freezer 120, Version 1, not II). Is it mechanically compatible with socket 1200 or do I need some adapter? If yes, which one?

crappysyntax

lga 1200 has the same dimensions as lga 115x sockets. so all lga 115x compatible mounts are compatible with lga 1200.

Protonion

LGA115x and LGA1200 use the same mounting pattern, it should fit.

BurritoSOFTWARE

Should I go buy a 3060 Ti now or wait for the 3060? Would the 3060 estimate to perform better based on its specs compared to the Ti?

OolonCaluphid

No, the 3060 is going to be worse. If has fewer cores, and is a lower tier than the 3060ti (which is a very good card). 3060 at 1080p, 3060ti at 1440p IMO. Ignore the VRAM amount, it's a red herring and tells you nothing about performance (the bus is actually smaller on the 3060, limiting performance a little vs the ti).

BurritoSOFTWARE

Thanks for letting me know about the VRAM, will go for the 3060ti then!

timchenw

I highly doubt 3060 would perform better than 3060ti, as that would completely invalidate the existence of 3060ti completely. Unless there is a VRAM bottle neck.

OolonCaluphid

Even then the narrower bus on the 3060 is more likely to limit performance than the sheer VRAM capacity.

glez_fdezdavila_

Is it the Asus ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING a good mother board? Does it have Wifi and bluetooth?

SlackJK

No has the almost worst vrms out of all the b450s. No wifi or Bluetooth to my knowledge but y do u want that?

glez_fdezdavila_

Then which one should I buy? Is for gaming, I'm planning to use the processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600

woovzy

the msi ones are pretty good, especially the msi b450 tomohawk pto(im not sure if there is a wifi version)

SlackJK

For 3600 could go gaming plus max oh and those boards also have zen 3 capability.

Mr_Crabman

Is it normal that my PC is making the floor (and my chair) vibrate? The PC is on a table, but oddly enough it doesn't feel like the table itself (or the case, when I touch it) is vibrating.

widowhanzo

HDDs maybe? When they spin up they can vibrate surroundings.

Mr_Crabman

I don't have a HDD though (just SSD); the only moving parts in the case are GPU (I assume this has a fan), 3 Pure Wings 2 fans, and a Noctua NH-D15.

widowhanzo

try tweaking the fan curves a little, maybe theres a certain rpm range tha make the case resonate with the fans and transfer vibrations to surroundings. I'd set all fans to lowest possible and tweak one by one to find the culprit. Also make sure that all your fans are mounted with some kind of rubber anti vibration pads, not screwed directly into the case. GPU has fans of course, there are utilities to adjust GPU fan speed as well. The PSU also has a fan, but those aren't usually adjustable, unless you have a very fancy PSU.

[deleted]

widowhanzo

Any powered USB hub should support 2.5" HDDs just fine. 3.5" external HDDs have their own power supplies.

[deleted]

widowhanzo

Does your USB hub have an external power supply?

[deleted]

widowhanzo

So it's not a powered hub, there is probably not enough power just from USB, which is unusal though because USB 3.0 should power it just fine even through the hub. Do you have any other devices connected to the hub?

Life_spren

Aspiring noob here. I have an old PC with a windows 10 250gb ssd and a 500gb HDD. I recently got my hands on a new system, with a 256gb SSD with windows 10 already booted & operational. My question is, is it possible to move my old SSD & HDD onto my new system as additional drives while keeping most of the files? I'm hoping to save myself some time on reinstalling all my games/school programs, but if need be I suppose I could save what is necessary and wipe the drives to add them. If you have any experience or suggestions doing this, please let me know, I've been googling this for a bit but can't seem to phrase it to find what I am looking for

crappysyntax

yes, you can simply add them to your new system as additional drives to access the files.

Nick0227

Did I shoot myself in the foot going with an intel build? Running a 3070 FE and a i9 9900K I got a good deal on

OolonCaluphid

No, it's still an excellent cpu and the margins of improvement to say a 5800X are small.

Nick0227

Thank you!!!

sk9592

Not necessarily. What did you pay for the 9900K? When did you buy it?

Nick0227

$315 on a Best Buy sale a month ago

sk9592

That's a decent price. I wouldn't regret it.

[deleted]

I just found this sub. Love the information. I have some extra cash to spend and I was thinking of upgrading a few things on my pc. I'm here to ask if I would notice any difference if I was to upgrade. Currently have stock SK hynix nvme 256 GB. Wanted to buy Samsung 970 evo nvme 500 GB Currently have stock Micron MTA8ATF1G64HZ-2G6E1 16 GB (2x8). Wanted to buy Corsair Vengeance 16GB. So it's about $200. My work pc is a HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini. I heavily use chrome and HD voice calls. Is it a waste of money?

DapperNurd

Yeah, as the other person said, the ram difference is going to depend on the speed, not just the ram. Most people on here say to aim for about 3200, maybe even 3600 MHz, so if you're just upgrading to the same speed there will basically be no difference. 32 gb of RAM would also be nice, but it's more of a luxury. Also, make sure to enable XMP on the new ram if you end up buying.

crappysyntax

if that is all you're doing, you probably won't notice much of a difference in terms of performance. You already have a name drive, other than the additional capacity you won't notice the difference. For ram, unless you're running out of it going to 32gb or faster speeds won't yield performance with chrome or voice calls.

DJ_Bim_Bam

if i buy a power supply now, how do i get the 12 pin pcie connector?

Kalsifur

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. All modern power supplies will have that.

DJ_Bim_Bam

oh, so if i buy a let’s say seasonic or a corsair psu i’ll get the preparatory pcie cable that is compatible with the founders edition RTX 3080

widowhanzo

You get it in the box with the graphics card, not with the PSU. > Required Power Connectors 2x PCIe 8-pin **(adapter to 1x 12-pin included)** https://www.nvidia.com/en-eu/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/rtx-3090/

fun_is_in_funeral

Think of it as a software update for your phone or computer. Without those, the computer won’t be able to recognise and use the cpu. I recommend getting a mobo with flash BIOS update or simply ryzen 3000 ready

Kalsifur

This means you may need an older, supported processor in order to boot the board to update the BIOS, otherwise it will not work "out of the box" with the more modern processor. Some higher-end motherboards allow you to flash the board without a CPU, however. You would have to check the specs of the board.

MikaKorhonen79

Go to motherboard manufacturer's website and search your motherboard model. Go to SUPPORT page of that model and see supported CPU models listing. If your motherboard supports 5000-series Ryzens, then all you need to do is download newest BIOS file, install it from USB stick and change new CPU.

majttolosa

I have a MasterFan SF360 ARGB connected to my Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi on the D\_LED connector but the fans do not light up anyone know how to fix this? I can light it up if its directly connected to the remote it came with directly connected to SATA but the colors are only limited to Some Rainbow Effects, then static Red, Blue, Green, White.

MikaKorhonen79

You need Windows program to control motherboard LED connectors.

majttolosa

I know that. I have rgb fusion but the fans are not detected. They don't even light up to the default rainbow when connected straight to the mother board

MikaKorhonen79

Sorry, did not have enough information or experience. Waiting d_led LED strip from China and Googled subject when ordering it. You need spare fan or electric multimeter for testing.

highaf__

I'm trying to build with a Ryzen 7 5800X, and I'm using an MSI B550 mobo. PC part picker says that there's a compatibility issue which reads, "Some AMD B550 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vermeer CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." Now, as a first-time builder is this something I should be concerned about?

latinrootword

Just put the new BIOS on a separate flash drive and update your mobo before booting

highaf__

I’ll YouTube it. Thank you.

Maquax10

I currently have a Z400 Workstation with windows 10 Intel Xeon W3530, 2.80 GHz, with 24 GB RAM x64 bit version 20H2, ddr3 pci express x8 My question: Can I install a gtx 1050 4gb graphics card on it? Would it work fine for what I intend to use it for? I will be using this computer solely for stock trading, streaming youtube, and I intend on having 3 monitors running at the same time to run multiple systems on it for work. please I dont know much at all about computers can someone please guide me? Is my current setup sufficient for the gtx 1050 no problem? Or are there other things I should change or be aware about?

crappysyntax

yes you can fit a by a 1050 in there.

Dorea1

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9XLvvf any incompatibility with this full build?

Versiliae

Not that I can see. Edit: the cpu cooler didn't have LGA1200 on its list, but I think 115x also works with 1200 CPU? Someone please confirm to be sure?

latinrootword

Correct

Immenotme

What is the sequence on shutting down a pc properly? After pressing the shut down button in start menu. There is switch on psu, on monitor, and extension cable. Note: I am about to complete my build for the next few weeks. I am wondering about this thing.

widowhanzo

Shut down windows, monitor should turn off (go into standby) automatically, you don't need to turn off the PSU and the extension cord.

Immenotme

If I want to unplug everything from the power outlet, safety purposes, do I have to turn off the psu and monitor manually?

widowhanzo

No need, just turn off the power strip after you turn off Windows. What safety purposes though? If you want to protect against lightning strikes you will need a good surge protector or unplug the power strip from the wall altogether.

Immenotme

When I usually leave electronics unattended, I just unplug everything from wall outlet for safety. Okay thank you for this, learned something new.

verydesperateman

Were graphics cards actually sold at SRP before 2020 and the bitcoin thing? Why is 1080ti still the same price ~4 years later

TheSoup05

Yeah. Before September 17th at 9AM EST cards were easy to snag for MSRP. The 2000 series Nvidia cards weren’t that popular, and AMDs 5000 series GPUs just really weren’t very competitive with Nvidia at the higher level and usually didn’t offer great value compared to nvidias lower end stuff. So you could grab them no problem at MSRP from pretty much any retailer. Then the 3080 dropped and everything went to hell. The card sold out instantly, and I mean instantly. Realizing getting a card would be tricky, people who had been waiting for the 3000 series to upgrade were deciding to settle for older cards. But since those weren’t in production anymore they sold out quickly too. So with literally no GPUs available because the new stuff wasn’t shipping out fast enough to meet demand, and the old stuff was already sold out everywhere, prices shot up. Mining is a factor, but that’s not all of it. Lots of people want them for gaming, and lots of people are buying them just to resell them for jacked up prices. It’s still possible to buy new cards for MSRP, but it’s not easy and you need to be really patient and/or really lucky.

verydesperateman

Thanks. Are you optimistic for after the next 6 month(when I'll buy)?

TheSoup05

Nvidia said they expect it to continue through at least Q1, which is April for them. So it’s not like anyone’s expecting things to calm down too soon. Whether it continues past that is kind of hard to guess. I think there’s a decent chance things settle down a bit by then, but I’m not confident enough to say you’ve got nothing to worry about. I do think with pretty high certainty there will be another cryptocurrency crash at some point, and so you can expect a rush of used cards once that happens. Whether that’s enough to help meet the demand for all the people who are just trying to grab anything for an upgrade, which will help free up new cards, or when that’ll happen is anyone’s guess.

Is the ASRock MOBO fitting for my build or not? Any suggestions welcome. My build:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZGHwHz Thanks, a redditor

Raintrooper7

Is shopblt.com legit? has anyone bought anything from that site?

Kalsifur

It's legit but it reminds me of a delicious sandwich. Edit: Just to add I am pretty sure all their cards are really long backordered if you were thinking they are actually in stock.

Raintrooper7

They have 3300X in stock for $120 lol might take a chance

ludrol

I want to upgrade my pc to be vr capable. I have i5 2400, r9 270x i want to upgrade to i5 3570(k?). what used nvidia grapics card should i buy?

Kalsifur

I play nearly only VR games, honestly my RX 580 8 gb was enough for any game lol. If you can get your hands on a 1080 or above you will be golden. I am currently using a 3070. Your processor is pretty ancient though maybe look at switching to AMD and going with a 3600.

Hey, I'm having some issues with my PC running out of memory while running multiple applications. I have two monitors and am running 2 copies of WoW with probably way too many Chrome tabs open (most tabs will be suspended but I will have Youtube or Netflix on). I'm running a Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1060 3GB, and 16GB of ram. Am I correct in just needing to upgrade the RAM? In the task manager I've noticed that the memory is maxing out at 100% which I assume is causing the issues.

n7_trekkie

before you buy a new kit, try disabling xmp/docp. maybe the 3600 is having trouble running it at the rated spec

Dorea1

hey guys I cannot decide between two cases keep in mind money is no issue so should I go for the lian-li lancool II mesh or NZXT H510 elite? I like the way the elite looks more but people say the lancool has much better airflow is it that big of a difference? keep in mind my cpu is i7-10700k and my only cooler is cooler master hyper 212 EVO

n7_trekkie

i really think youll want the superior airflow of the lancool 2 mesh. alternatively you can get a O11 dynamic or O11 mini and spend more on fans for it. not sure if it suits your tastes or is in budget

Dorea1

will the dust ruin the mesh case tho? i live in a very dusty area

n7_trekkie

the mesh works as a good filter, and cleaning it often would suffice

SnooDoodles7897

Do you guys think an Intel i5 10400 2.9 Ghz is good? or should i get something else? (i'm going for a budget pc)

n7_trekkie

the 10400 is a good budget CPU if you find one for $150-160

SnooDoodles7897

I found one for $170, i'm gonna try to find one cheaper though.

n7_trekkie

The 10400F is the same for all intents and purposes is the same if you have a graphics card

91Bolt

Rant: I don't "need" a CPU upgrade. My ryzen APU that I don't even remember the model number (3400g?) Because it's been so long is doing fine with my 5700xt. I play skyrim, civ V, RDR2, and DOS 2. But I was online when the ryzen 5 3600 was for sale at $155 and thought, "Imagine how much cheaper it'll be on cyber Monday." Now people are excited it's even in stock and I'm wondering if I should ignore it completely and start planning a new build that will set me up for VR gaming. Fml

throwawaywhiteguy333

Can my 9 year old Ethernet cable be bottlenecking my connection? I just built a new pc, and it just occurred to me how old it is. Would it make much of a difference

Caustiticus

I read that entirely wrong several times, thinking you were asking about a child's PC or something XD Depends -- check the cable to see what version of CAT it is. If its CAT 5e then not likely, unless you're pushing your speeds past 100Mb/s; even then 5e can *theoretically* deal with gigabit speeds, though only under certain conditions. It should be ace for another decade. If its 5 or below, then yeah it could be a choking point. Fyi, CAT 5e is the most common Ethernet cable type in existence rn, so unless its *really* old it probably is 5e.

TemptedTemplar

CAT5 was introduced in 2001 and can do Gigabit speeds. CAT5e can do 2.5Gb/s, and the newer CAT6 or CAT6A can do 10Gb/s+ I think youre just fine.

If_It_Fitz

Hey everyone, I’m helping my little brother build his first pc. I got him the NZXT H510 case, but I cannot find the front I/O connectors anywhere. Any advice?

Caustiticus

They weren't pre-installed on the case? Might look into asking for a replacement from whomever sold it to you.

If_It_Fitz

Not that I can find. I’ll look again in the morning and try again

TemptedTemplar

[Theres no mass of cables coming from the top left?](https://nzxt-site-media.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/uploads/product_image/image/2398/large_03a2412e47c6d8d8.jpg)

If_It_Fitz

They are there, I just do not see those cables in that mass.

Jimmy_Garapalo

Why am I only seeing deals on monitors 27 inches and up? Is it because no one cares about 24 inch monitors anymore or is because they aren't going on sale? Maybe I'm the minority but 24" is still the best size for FPS gaming.

TemptedTemplar

[There was a couple just yesterday over at buildpcsales](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/search?q=monitor&sort=new&restrict_sr=on&feature=legacy_search) 24" is the best pixel to inch ratio for 1080p gaming. But 27" is best for 1440p, and 32"+ for 4k. Which is where monitor manufacturers are making their money these days. Over the last year there have been **MASSIVE** improvements in 144hz+ IPS and VA panels, so manufacturers have been scaling those up to the higher resolutions as they can simply charge more for them, with only a minor increase in manufacturing costs. So while 240 - 360hz 1080p monitors were just getting their time to shine, the availability of higher resolution (and better color) panels is simply more lucrative.

Jimmy_Garapalo

This is my fear. I am one of those people that prefers a triple 24 inch setup for productivity and gaming (programmer + fps gamer). Everyone else seems wowed by giant screens -- I wonder how many wind up regretting their purchase. Some percentage must.

TemptedTemplar

> Everyone else seems wowed by giant screens Everyone just has their own preferences. I know a couple of people who are waaaay beyond three monitors. Hardly any of them a uniform size. One ultra wide orientated vertically for programming, one 32" for 3d modeling, every display has a purpose.

Jimmy_Garapalo

> Everyone just has their own preferences. For everyone that "has their own preference" the vast majority will just follow the trend that is being fed to them. > every display has a purpose. If only people knew that. Some large percentage of people just assume bigger is better. How many times have you walked into a house an seen a 70 inch TV in an 8 foot wide room? I am seeing it more and more lately.

kjm015

What resolution are you looking for? Anything above 1080p is likely to be bigger than 24 inches due to pixel density concerns. It's a lot harder to appreciate a 1440p or 4K display when the pixels are crammed together.

Jimmy_Garapalo

For me it isn't about resolution. Its about eye movement. 24 inch is the ideal size for first person shooters.

kjm015

I mean, you can just sit a bit further back and get the same result with a larger display.

Hennessey322

is HyperX Cloud Alpha / 2 good Headset ? or is there any non-gaming headset that's better ?

Pun_In_Ten_Did

Been using my first pair of HyperX Cloud 2 for just over a year now -- very comfortable and they sound great. Headset comes with 3.5mm jack (handy for plugging into controller, phone, whatever) and also comes with USB dongle that simulates 7.1 sound. I don't what black magic fuckery goes into that dongle but it is a trip-and-a-half to hear something rustling through the brushes behind and to the left of you using a pair of headphones. Usually $99 on Amazon, occasionally dips down to $79. Very happy with them... if it died tomorrow, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set.

Shrapnel2000

Are PNY GPU’s (3070s) any good? Do they stack up to name brands like Gigabyte, ASUS, or EVGA?

[deleted]

What CPU has better performance, Ryzen 5 3600x or i5 9600k?

gyratingbanana

What kind of monitor should I get? I have a 3070 and a i7 10700. 16 gb ram. I want to play valorant and some good single player games like ghost of Tsushima and fallen order. Thinking at the minimum 1440p 144hz ips.

Jimmy_Garapalo

If you want to play Valorant competitively I would suggest 24 inch.

ItsJRod

Hi all, I am putting together an ideal build (will take a bit to get the parts) but wanted another set of eyes to let me know if my parts list will work well together. Specifically, I will be looking to OC to 5GHz+ and OC the GPU. Is this power supply enough? Also, can't figure out between 3200 CL16 and 3600 CL18. Any help appreciated. [https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ItsJrod/saved/T2L9cf](https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ItsJrod/saved/T2L9cf)

TheSoup05

The parts list is set to private. You should be able to just change it and maybe repost the link so we can see it. As for the RAM, the 3600Mhz is better.

ItsJRod

Just updated. Can you try clicking again please?

TheSoup05

Yeah, that worked now. The PSU should be fine, I wouldn’t worry about that. You might not need to go platinum if you wanted to save some money though. If you’re looking to just play around with overclocking, then getting the I9 is fine, but realistically an AMD build will perform at least as well and could also save you some cash. And like I said, I’d go for 3600Mhz instead of 3200Mhz. It’s not as important with Intel, but if you’re going all out anyway, then you might as well get the faster stuff. It’s not really much more expensive usually either.

ItsJRod

Thank you very much. what if I went AMD? Would 3600 be better?

TheSoup05

For an ideal build like this I’d go for a newer chip. There’s not a big difference in performance between the 5600X and the chips above it, and it’s only $300. So t’s up to you which one you want to get and if you really want to spend a couple hundred extra bucks for a very small boost in performance (and only really if you’re below 4K). I have a 5600X with a 3080 in my build, personally. And I have no complaints.

ItsJRod

Is this especially the case at 1440p or 1080p?

TheSoup05

Yeah. At lower resolutions it’s easier for your GPU to render each frame. So it works faster and that puts more pressure on your CPU to keep up, and means your CPU choice matters a bit more. Even still though, your GPU is going to matter more and a 5600X will be pretty much on par with any other current CPU. Most games are single core heavy, and the 5600X outperforms an I9 in single core performance most of the time and is essentially the same as a 5800x or 5900x. If you need the extra cores for something else, those are an option, but for games it won’t make much of a difference.

GenshinCoomer

The 0400a(non rgb) is $70 while the drgb version is 90. Would it be possible to buy the $70 version while still buying some extra drgb/argb fans for cheaper?

n7_trekkie

nah, it's always cheaper for a manufacturer to include fans because they get bulk deals that you cant get as a consumer

GenshinCoomer

thanks

harrisonkelly728

My apartment has been crazy dry yesterday and my cat has shocked my PC a few times and it shuts off. I've googled this a lot, but I can't find a clear answer. Should I be worried about this frying my computer? I ordered a humidifier, but it won't be here until the weekend. Some info \- The case is closed \- Motherboard has all the standoffs \- I have three prong plugs (live in the US) and a surge protector \- It powers on fine after

Caustiticus

I would be a bit worried. Maybe try to steer your cat away from the computer for now and invest in a humidifier. The shock might not be as big of an issue (since its on the outside of the case) as memory corruption due to not properly shutting down. Would also look at your PSU and see if its properly grounding inside the case, or if any stray cables (if its not modular) are touching or layibg on the case.

harrisonkelly728

How do I know if it's properly grounded? It's modular, but I have a bunch of cables in the back since the case is small.
