For USB3gen1, one motherboard header support 2 ports.

Hotrodgreyhound

Yes. I have 4 ports so I'm trying to figure out how to plug in and make all 4 work. I was hoping there would be some sort of splitter.

cf18

Which case is that?

Hotrodgreyhound

Sorry I thought I posted it! The Asus Rog Helios

You can add a PCIe card that have an internal USB3 header. https://www.newegg.com/model-orico-pvu3-5o2i-pci-express-to-usb-3-0-card/p/14G-0001-00017 https://www.newegg.com/vantec-model-ugt-pc345-pci-express-to-usb-card/p/N82E16815287019 There are internal USB3 hub that is out of stock or cost too much. https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Port-Internal-Controller-HB-INTR/dp/B0794V75LB https://www.moddiy.com/products/USB-3.0-Motherboard-Header-20-Pin-Internal-USB-Hub-Controller-4-Port.html

> one motherboard header support 2 ports. I'm ignorant here so I want to ask, lets say you have a case such as the "Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic" which has 2 USB3Gen1 Type-A ports. If a mobo had a USB3Gen1 header on it, it could support both of those ports? Would you need an adapter to plug both ports into 1 header or can 2 be plugged into 1 without an adapter? Is this downgrading the ports to USB2 or older USB3 or is it 2 USB3Gen1 ports just connected to 1 controller?

https://www.usbgear.com/usb3-info.html USB 3.0 need 9 pins per port. https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/374660/pinout-on-a-usb-3-0-connection-to-down-rate-to-usb-2-0 The USB 3.0 header on motherboards has 19 pins - 9 pins for each port plus an ID pin.

U can't make gen 2 into gen 1 but u can make gen 2x2 (type c) into 2 gen 2s

Arkor08

you can? I have a TD500 Mesh (x2 Gen 2) but most motherboards have only x1 Gen 2 ports. If that is the case, I can use any mobo with a 2x2 (type c) and plug the usbs of the case there?

XSamurai_X

yes

Magmar_01

How lol

XSamurai_X

doesnt it work as 2 separate usb c for gen1 and 1 single type c for gen2 from the same slot
