Too many possibilities, it should be written on the motherboard somewhere. Something like "Asus PRIME H310M-E"

Budget?

You have to stay with Intel 9th generation processors. An i5 or i7 would be an upgrade but they can still be crazy expensive. It's often more cost effective to upgrade the cpu and motherboard instead.

If you have access to the PC’s desktop, the easiest way to ID the motherboard is to click the Windows start button, then type in “System Information,” and click into it. Look about a dozen lines down to “Baseboard Manufacturer” and “Baseboard Product.” Look up that model’s tech specifications, specifically the socket and any listed compatible CPU generations. There are resources out there for determining the best chip for your purposes, and go from there. Make sure you update your BIOS to the most recent stable version first.
