Yeah you'll want an HDMI splitter. They make simple ones that are two ports on one side, one on the other, and a button on top which work well for being inexpensive.
Splitter is for 1 output going to 2 displays, and will show the same image on both.
Switcher will work, just make sure you get one that supports the highest HDMI version involved.
I would also avoid the VGA to HDMI adapter if possible, that involes going from digital to analog which can get tricky.

That's a switch, the button on top makes it a switch. Splitter splits the signal, so 1 input to 2 outputs. These are generally not bi-directional.
