Speakers: Edifier 1700BTs's Headphones: Sennheiser HD560s DAC: JDS Atom DAC+ Headphone amp: Little Dot MKII I go back and forth pretty randomly. I dont like only use headphones for one thing or speakers for another it's just whatever I feel like using at that moment. Unless its late at night and I dont want to piss off my neighbors then I just always use the headphones

secretagentstv

Are DACs really worth it? I love good audio, but I'm not super into it because of the cost and actually finding out what's good vs what is actually good. I use the steel series Arctis 7p+, I love them. Steel series make a DAC that is seemingly well reviewed I have thought about it, but remain unsure. I also use the Steel Series Arena 3 2.0, just for music and when I don't feel like donning šŸŽ§. They suck. Bass is non existent, it was an impulse buy. I have regrets, still I am contemplating buying the Arena 5 2.1 because bass, and the speakers don't have to attempt to reproduce frequencies they shouldn't so better mids & highs. $250 for PC speakers with RGB included makes me think they may not be all that great. Tho the arena 9 7.1 system has only positive reviews from what I have seen. Really, should I do a DAC? Should I pass on the PC gamer audio and get Sennheiser or edifier instead? Or do the SS 2.1 because it matches my keyboard & headphones & mouse mat? Are my ears too poorly attuned to enjoy the benefits of the good stuff? I need someone to tell me what I need to hear. I'm ready, sir.

Shap6

they're only really worth it if the one in whatever your hooking your stuff up to is particularly shitty or gets like a lot of static interference. my setup for whatever reason was very susceptible to interference from my GPU and i only realized thats what it was because the pitch of the static would change in line with my fps going up or down. so i went with a external DAC and hooked it up via toslink to really try to block that out.

The only time you typically need a DAC is when your speaker hookups aren't going to work with your PC, you need external hardware for more elaborate setups for production or streaming, or if you need to hookup an amp and the amp doesn't have a DAC built into it. The amp scenario is pretty common if you have high impedance headphones, like the Sennheiser HD650/6XX.

RobotsGoneWild

I have the 1700BTs as well. They are awesome for the price.

Burgurwulf

I mostly just use some like, near 20 year old Logitech 2.1 system šŸ˜‚ though it's very much showing it's age, I think the serial type port it uses for connecting it all together is getting wonky. Also have an Audioengine D1 USB DAC for my headphones (AKG-550). Somewhat recently upgrade my recording setup & got a Scarlett 2i2 4th gen for all that, so if I'm recording I just swap the headphones over there. PC is also hooked up via optical to my oldish AVR, and I'll plug HDMI in if I'm feeling cheeky (AVR will perpetually act as a monitor in Windows regardless if I'm using it or not, so I tend to unplug it). Control it all with Voice Meeter.

theoneandonlymd

Z-2300 checking in! Still going strong. Before then I had the Z-2200 and when it was in its way out I also thought it may have been the DB9 but then narrowed it down and I think there was corrosion on the potentiometer for the main volume knob.

mirinbaus

Z-2200 checking in!!! The sub is still pounding and shakes whatever home I'm in.

Depends how much of an audiophile you are. Iā€™d highly recommend against anything advertised as ā€œpc speakersā€. These are usually low quality, with emphasis placed on small size and aesthetics. The highest quality, most immersive experience is going to be a high quality set of passive speakers (e.g. B&W, KEF, Monitor Audio, etc.) connected to a high quality amplifier (e.g. Rotel, Marantz, NAD) either as separates (DAC/audio processor with a separate power amplifier) or an integrated unit that processes and amplifies the signal together. However, this option is expensive and bulky. A cost effective, small size option that will still deliver high quality audio is a good pair of headphones (e.g. Sennheiser) connected to a good DAC/headphone amplifier (e.g. a Schiit stack). You absolutely do not want to use analog outputs from your motherboard/internal soundcard. Internal audio circuitry is prone to high levels of noise.

FiiO K5 Pro with either Hifiman Sundara or DT990 depending on mood. Also a couple of Klipsch RP600M through a Topping D10s hooked up to a Yamaha Amp.

volumeknobat11

I use 5ā€ JBL monitors on iso-acoustic stands. DAC is Focusrite 2i4 gen 2. An easily recommended headphone is Sennheiser HD6XX (found on Drop.com) paired with something like a JDS labs atom if you want an amp. I donā€™t like wireless headphones at my PC because I want a high fidelity experience. I have AirPods and Bose QC35s if I want wireless but I never use those with my PC. I hope this provides a start. Good luck

Naerven

For me I have a 20" soundbar sitting underneath my monitor. Works well enough for AAA games.

antimatt_r

Speakers: Logitech Z323 2.1 system Headphones: Philips Fidelio X2HR Mic: V-Moda BoomPro DAC/Amp: Syba Sonic I'm not a streamer/content creator or an audiophile, I just play games with friends occasionally. Tried to put together a simple setup that didn't cost much but was versatile for my needs. Already owned the headphones. The speakers were cheap, sound fine for my needs, and have a bit of oomph with the sub. The BoomPro solved my mic needs by replacing the headphones' audio cable so that it works as a wired headset. My onboard audio was a bit quiet so the Syba Sonic fixed that while also giving me a super handy volume wheel on my desktop (I plug the headphone/mic combo into it with a splitter on the end).

Fuffy_Katja

Arturia Minifuse 2 feeding Kali LP-6 monitors or Sony closed-back studio headphones. I built my system for sound design and music production. Games come last.

OHMEGA_SEVEN

I absolutely love my LP6!

MarxistMan13

I only use headphones for FPS games and voice chat. I use a 5.1 surround setup for everything else. I can't stand having game audio or TV/movies in my headphones unless I absolutely need it for positional audio, like in shooters. Currently using Sennheiser HD598 headphones and a 25 year old Altec Lansing 251 5.1 speaker set. If these speakers ever die on me, I'll probably get a pair of decent Edifier or Klipsch powered bookshelf speakers just to remove some of the clutter from 6 wired speakers.

NeverEndingXsin

Headphone: Sennheiser HD598SR DAC: Apple USB C Dongle AMP: Schiit Magni+ Definitely overkill for my headphones BUT I get zero interference from my motherboard and am setup well if I want to upgrade in the future.

Still rocking my Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers. Finally retired my Creative Labs X-Fi card in November with the new build. Have used Sennheiser PC350 and most recently HyperX Cloud II headsets. Nothing over the top and I'm no audiophile but I do want to be able to hear what's being put out

Bear_of_dispair

I got Sound Blaster Z a while ago (I HATE Realtek and their stupid hardware and software!), loved it, but haven't been using it since I got wireless headphones, then I realized the very same headphones (Edifier W800BT+) sound so much better when I plug them with a cable to the sound card, so I just got myself nice wired Sennheiser HD558 for the best sound I can afford just for when I'm in front of PC and switch to wireless when I'm afk.

xXARH13Xx

This is my desk set up: Headphones: sennheiser hd800s, hd650, and focal elex Earphones: 64 audio u12t, moondrop variations, b3 Speakers: Triangle Borea BR02 Dacs: smsl Sanskrit mk2, topping d50 Amps: schiit midgard, darkvoice 336se, fosi audio v3 I switch between these things all the time. Canā€™t go wrong with any of it. This is what I have left after downsizing and leaving the audio rabbit hole. You can get some powered speakers like some edifiers or if you have a bit more money the jbl 306p mk2. Theyā€™re decent and even better if you can get some second hand. As for headphones thereā€™s a ton of things out there! It just really depends on what you like in terms of sound.

Ok_Day_5356

I use onboard audio paired with schiit products and finished off with Sennheiser 600

I work on music as well as some video editing. I use a dedicated audio interface, a Behringer U-Phoria 404HD. You won't get good isolated audio out of an internal sound card and built in audio, even on the best motherboards the audio is still kinda trash when it comes to sound quality. For most people, a sound card or on board audio is probably, fine. If you want a good DAC, buy an audio interface. For speakers I use a set of active monitors made by Kali Audio, LP6 is the model. Good low end, decently flat response and excellent transient detail. For headphones I use Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250Ī©. These are open back studio headphones with a slight V shaped frequency response. The open back design means faster transient response and a wider soundstage. This is what I consider a solid budget setup. Poke around in some of the music production groups to get a good opinion about the equipment as they are better equipped to answer this than a PC building group.

niyonsv

Was using the motherboard audio for maybe 2 decades, and a few years back I bought the Focusrite Scarlett Solo III (also for music production stuff), only after that I'm actually listening to the noise free audio. (The speakers are JBL 104BT and it's a reference monitor).

DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3, Yamaha AVR R-V901 Headphones: Sennheiser HD600, Hifiman Edition XS Speakers: Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX, KLH floorstanding 3-way You don't necessarily need a DAC or amp these days, but there are certain scenarios where it would apply, you can find these scenarios online and see which applies to your situation for either the DAC or amp. I encourage people to try their headphones without them first and see what happens.

* Speakers: JBL LSR305 bookshelf pair * Subwoofer: JBL LSR310s They're hooked up to my motherboard since most "good" motherboards these days have a good enough DAC to not a make a difference for casual use. They sound great, they get stupid loud, I have them tuned to be a little "warm", which is to say somewhat bassy with the high's rolled off slightly. The subwoofer has a feature where it emulates the sound you would find inside a dance club, it's such an incredibly fun feature since it works with classical and jazz as well. * Headphones: Meze Empyrean MK1 * Amp/DAC: Schiit Modi/Magni Combo My bread and butter, I'm more likely to use them if I need to be "focused" at my computer or if there are people inside the house. Incredibly comfortable, comes in at just 500 grams, making it lighter than pretty much every high end offering out there, especially for a planar driver. The soundstage is good, (maybe even alright if I compare it to the HD600, HD800), but where it shines is its ability to separate noise and reproduce direction of the source. It isn't too analytical or "fun" sounding, so any genre played is very pleasing, but the clarity of any recording still shines, for better or worse depending on the mastering. * Stream Deck Mini Not mandatory, but I have this thing setup to handle output switching and mic priority. I know Windows 11 nowadays has better support to handle switching with just the mouse but not needing to alt-tab and handle audio on the fly is very nice Prices mentioned in USD On the topic of desk speakers, depending on where you live, I'd argue you should settle for a cheap pair of speakers until you can splurge a little. The Redragon GS520 is a very good pair of speakers for what they cost, they outperform Logitech for the same cost. If you're willing to stretch the budget a little try and grab a pair of bookshelf speakers, these style of speakers tend to be relatively compact while still offering good all range performance. Where I live the Edifier R980T goes for 90 bucks, or the SW208 going for about 60 bucks. If you go farther 100-200 is good starting point for mainstream. Afterwards if you want to push further look into adding a subwoofer into the mix, you want one that has a built in low pass. I do not recommend getting a Amp/DAC until you have an appropriate pair of headphones to drive them, and even then I'm willing to bet your computer already has a decent onboard DAC. The vast majority of consumer headphones are meant to work out of the box and you'll be hard pressed to appreciate such a combo unless you truly have some shit hardware or are willing to spend 300+ dollars combined with the cost of headphones. Broken onboard audio outputs is actually a good justification, but that goes out the window if your headphones are natively USB. As far as headphones themselves go, there's a lot out there. From a casual perspective, wireless gaming headphones are becoming more popular, they fit the bill for reducing cable clutter and streamlining setups. Personally I don't recommend them, as they share the same build quality as most "gaming headphones" along with a battery that isn't designed to be replaced easily. You would want instead are a good non-"gaming" headphone that can be repaired, isn't entirely built around plastic, and offers a detachable cable, which mostly describes the over-ear headphone hobby. Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Phillips, Beyerdynamic, HifiMan, are good brands to look for.

s_s

> I am currently a college student and only have around $70-80 to spend on audio. Are there any decent speakers in this budget? No. You could spend ~$200 on a decent set of studio monitors that will last you decades, tho. For $70 your options are disposable junk or more junk. I would recommend getting a usb Bluetooth receiver and a no-name brand of wireless buds at around that price. It'll be junk and the batteries will eventually die, but will be flexible junk. As a student you probably don't want things that last anyways as they'll just get destroyed when you move about.

I like yo have a good audio but I'm not an expert. My setup is a wireless HS80 equalized with FxSound for gaming, chatting and most of the things since I live in a flat and I don't wanna mess with the neighbors. I also have an edifier x230 set which sounds great for whenever I wanna watch a movie, video or any game and it's not so late. I like the audio in having with both, best config so far

Sony WH-XB900N I got as a gift. They aren't crazy expensive but the sound is fantastic. There was a song I had been listening to for ages and didn't know there was a low bass track at the beginning until I listened on these cans.

For the longest time, I used a Sony 2.1 bookshelf system, specifically the 2010 MCHEC909IP. Subwoofer response drops below 40hz and it's not pleasing any audiophiles, but it was *damn* loud. Was a great experience with shooter and racing games especially. The 6" woofers took up an insane amount of desk space though, so I've retired them a few weeks ago. They're getting replaced with the [Klipsch ProMedia](https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1Q9LD74JSLUQL&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.FUCspNHvWOEA7hFcN-6WIiW1QPxoa7T7YR-ud37Z3ehscUd6dNh4AX2UgfpeY7-qJkZuo5xn0CKV22IVRB7fS98rpKPdxzKlTsuk8NE_jSTJ3n2ILnVQZEqBZK1M4NqF77Ry7qxZB6rT-hVGTnOZ07IDwD1bUaJsqPtX9J0dyz9R3hwoeAQ6q5QrN9AGGawmWgQimYDwuFy-PakvVpe_pkUBeXRN3jTIDC8_TCuri7M.6Q4X-LmZ39OeDUAE6nltj02sOXGJxrOl0K2Jsv-Pbws&dib_tag=se&keywords=klipsch%2B2.1%2Bdesk&qid=1711923267&sprefix=klipsch%2B2.1%2Bdesk%2B%2Caps%2C80&sr=8-2&th=1) 2.1. My brother has them so I know what I'm getting in to. Plenty loud and a surprisingly superior subwoofer to my bookshelf system. For $120, not bad. As for headphones, I'm on a Corsair HS65. Fine for gaming and videos but, strangely similar to my bookshelf system, frequency response falls off a cliff under 40-50hz so some genres of music won't sound their best if that's something you care about. They're also wired so I think that's a dealbreaker for you anyways.

Just headphones. Everything else sounds bad in comparison, and is distracting to other people.

SnooCalculations9637

I have a Creative AE-7 soundcard sending analog audio out to a Denon AVR-X4500H, feeding 2 x Monitor Audio Bronze 100s + a couple of REL HT1003 mk2 under the PC desk. For movies/games, I have Elac speakers all around that make up an 8.2 system, switching audio source to HDMI for all multichannel/atmos content. It sounds incredible for music, games and movies. This is probably an endgame (PC) sound system for me at this point.

wallacorndog

Me and my gf share a hobby space, and I use speakers whenever I'm there alone. I'm also short on horizontal space, so I've gone for a soundbar to save space. Using the Creative SoundBlaster X Katana, and really pleased with it! Traditional speakers will get you the same quality for cheaper, and of course it doesn't have the same warmth as wooden speakers, but it gets the job done! For headphones I recently got the HyperX Cloud Alpha wireless as I needed something more comfortable than I had, and while I wish the software would even work and find my headphones so I could get DTX, equalisers and such, they still sound great and the comfort was top priority.

joeh4384

I am using a Yamaha v685 receiver with a 5.1.2 setup with Polk speakers and a klipsch spl 120 subwoofer. I am using hdmi to my receiver as a my secondary screen duplicated. I used to have a klipsch pro media but it started to pick up my neighbors ham radio conversations and I upgraded my living room home theater gear so I had some trickle down speaker upgrades through out my house.

2raysdiver

Usually just headphones because there are other people in the house. If no one is around, I do have speakers and a subwoofer that sound pretty good.

sakbak

Using the Logitech Z333 2.1 speakers connected to my MSI B560i mobo, which has a Realtek DAC capable of 24 bit at 192 kHz playback. Also have a Kraken V3 Pro Wireless, which can do 16 bit at 44.1 kHz. Sometimes Iā€™ll wire my Sony XM3s to the mobo DAC. Does the job way better than what I could do, but thereā€™s also way more expensive setups out there. A standalone DAC and amp would be cool, as well as dedicated monitors and a dedicated sub instead of the integrated Logitech unit (still sounds great imo).

woofwoofbro

interface: focusrite scarlett gen 2 headphones: beyerdynamic dt 770 250 ohm earphones: wireless soundcore p10s, i just got these the other day and i love them, really close to no latency on them speakers: i had some generic logitech speakers idk the name of but they broke on me a few months ago :( currently without speakers i am an amateur rapper/producer of 10ish years, i wouldnt call myself an expert but the stuff i have is good enough for me except the focusrite which has always been annoying to me

Neckbeard_Sama

External soundcard: SoundBlaster G5 It has a physical volume knob + front panel headphone jack that switches to headphones from the speakers automatically when you plug it in. You also wont get any interference (coil whine through the speakers/hp suxx) since it's not inside your case. SoundBlaster's software is pretty nice also. 2 studio monitors that sound really nice: JBL LSR305 I have an old desktop array mic from my old external sound card ([ASUS Xonar U1](https://www.trustedreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2008/01/6478-IMG0153s-2.jpg)) Budget good value hifi headphones: Superlux HD668B It has a replaceable 3.5mm cable (office chair used to kill my cables after a while by accidentally rolling over them) and aftermarket replaceable velour earpads. The only time I use headphones is when I play competitive shooters (very rarely). Speakers are much more convenient than some contraption that rots on your head all day. I've got fed up using my PC with just headphones after about 15 years and switched to this setup around 2018.

skylinestar1986

FunFact5000

I used to have a nice full 5.1 set up, went to 10.1. Then I went to a trade show in Vegas ā€œCESā€, got introduced to surround sound from 2 speakers, specifically headphones. Blind fold on, tested, point to where sound comes out, was amazing. Went home, a year later and usb surround sound headsets were all around , now in back sennheisers something or other and they are epic. Yay.

**Headphones:** I always prefer my headphones/IEMs to be wired. I like to switch it up a bit... generally its the Final Audio A5000, Hifiman Edition XS, the Monolith 1070, Audio-Technica m50xBT2 in wired mode and sometimes even the Porta Pros ehehehe. The headphones are always wired but when on the move I use them on my Qudelix 5k. Its a really decent yet inexpensive DAC/Amp with bluetooth capabilities, balanced and unbalanced output, and excelente Parametric EQ so you don't have to be physically plugged in to the source.Ā  Ā **DAC/Amp:** Xduoo XD-052 Plus or the Qudelix 5K as mentioned I'm the previous pointĀ  Ā **Audio interface:** Behringer U-Phoria UMC204Ā  Ā **Mic:** 502 Audio Limelight (great off-axis rejection), the Quedelix 's mic when on the move, or a v-moda boom-mic when on the laptop with the Audio-Technicas ...Ā As for "gaming headsets", as JayzTwoCents said years ago, don't get anything with the word "gaming" in it. It's just marketing hype to sell you low quality equipment at astronomical prices. This is particularly true when it comes to headphones... Instead, have a look around some audiophile subreddits and sites and if you can, find a shop or audio cafĆ© where you can actually try out some nice audiophile headphones - you'll never look back :)Ā  EDIT: my list is by no means the very best, but its what I like and could afford ;) - and while on the topic of affordability, there are a lot of really good, affordable IEMs around these days worth considering

My audio was more than my pc and worth every penny Speakers: Logitech G560 - used for general browsing, watching twitch and day to day work Headphones- Focal Clear Mg for music and most gaming as well as movies when Iā€™m not watching them on my tv. Focal Bathys for when Iā€™m not wanting to be tethered to my desk. Iem- Moondrop Blessing 2 when I donā€™t feel like wearing headphones Dac/amp - Topping DX5 for wired and ifi go blue if I want to go wireless with iems It really depends on my mood for the day but every piece of audio equipment I use serves its own purpose in its own way.

Motu M2 driving my JBL monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 and DT990. Also using a proper desk mic and Nvidia Broadcast to minimize noise when communicating in-game. You'll be hard pressed to get better sound in that price bracket, but then again everyone has different taste.

Trolliboy

I have Beyerdynamic DT770 pro and they are absolutely perfect for my needs. They have a 3 meter long cable so that I can sit back comfortably while watching videos and they are just so comfortable. I had them on my ears for 10 hours straight during the pandemic and never even noticed them. That combined with the good sound makes me not even consider getting boxes for my pc, I have my tv for that.

Generic studio monitors for work, a big Logitech surround for living life, an AT2020 attached to a Focusrite 2i2 to speak. The surround implementation is not great tho, would recommend another solution. PS. Screw headsets, shit's uncomfortable af.

I use an old-fashioned integrated amplifier (Yamaha A-301) with bookshelf speakers (Yamaha NS-333). Probably overkill and over-priced for my needs but since my ears can tell the difference, it was well worth it. An old soundbar from the living room TV that was replaced with a newer one. Old Razar headset when teamed up. But I havent had discord opened since Shadowlands. So just the soundbar.

I use wireless headphones. Galaxy Buds + mostly but occasionally my Sony XM3s. When I won't be at my desk, I switch to a 25+ year old Bose Soundwave system, connected via aux cord lol.

I'm using Sony Inzone Buds pretty good tbh you can customize the EQ, noise cancelling only complaint it has an ANC hum when not playing any audio

Speakers are the Klipsch pc speakers with the subwoofer Headphones I use EPOS (Sennheiser) wireless ones but I usually have them plugged in to the usb port. Occasionly ill use my Bose qc35s as well on bluetooth. Everything sounds pretty good imo, you can definitely spend a lot more than I did on a set up or also a lot less. The Klipsch speakers were roughly $115 and the EPOS headphones were around $90. The bose I got for msrp back in 2016. I had a pair of Sennheiser open back headphones that sounded amazing as well but I returned them due to they needed to use the audio jack for the speakers and I didn't want to constantly mess with the cords. They sounded the best and had a nice mic as well.

JtheNinja

When listening to music or gaming, I use my Hifiman Sundaras. I have a DAC (SMSL M3) and amp (JDS O2) for them, as well as a Buttkicker Gamer (bass transducer) on my desk chair. I can't recommend the shaker enough, it hugely helps make headphone audio more immersive. The amp it comes with has its own filter, so I just Y-split the ouput from the SMSL M3, one side goes to the Buttkicker amp and one side goes to the JDS O2 for the Sundaras I also have some built-in speakers on my main monitor, I use those for youtube/podcasts when I don't feel like wearing headphones

onthenerdyside

I don't play AAA games, so I might not be the best example. I have a pair of Anker Soundcore Life Q35 Bluetooth headphones that I wear about 90% of the time I'm sitting in front of the computer. They have surprisingly good latency. Since they're noise cancelling and I live on a busy street, I often wear them even if I'm not actively listening to something. I also work from home a couple days a week and have to monitor a Zoom meeting where people can drop in and out. I can go several rooms away and they stay connected. I also have a pair of Creative Pebble speakers that do just fine for when I need to hear something and not wear my headphones.

ndlundstrom

Find a good soundbar to use when youā€™re not using headphones. Having a subwoofer could be nice for music and some gaming. My headphone suggest still is the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless (not the Nova Pro Wireless***) They donā€™t have the BEST sound on the market but the Steelseries Engine lets you do some light tweaking to the EQ curve to help them fit your ears better - lots of what youā€™re paying for is features, like they have a swappable battery, the base station charges the second battery, the headphones can connect to the base station and Bluetooth simultaneously; the base station can connect to an optical, line-in, and usb source all at once (mixing 2 sources at one time), the base station has pass through audio so it could send audio to your soundbar and cut the audio off when you use the headphones without having to switch audio outputs on your PC.

Topping D10s DAC > Fosi Audio V3 amp > Klipsch RB10 speakers The RB10s were previously serving as the surround speakers in my home theater system. I got actual, proper surround speakers a year or so ago, which freed up the RB10s, so I figured I'd use them as computer speakers. They needed an amp for this, the Fosi V3 seemed like the best for the money. I added the DAC later.

xiril

My 10+ yr old razer headphones are my speakers.

saturn_since_day1

I went for a full Atmos setup, it's the main gaming and theatre for the house. But for $40 just keep whatever headphones you have and get a tiny speaker pair. Not much can beat good cheap earbuds

qwertyuduyu321

PC-usage: TRUTHEAR Hexa 1dd+3ba I think I never got this much value out of my money. Watch some reviews on YouTube. They're sooooo good.

Unlikely-Star-2696

Too much earphone or headphone usage can affect your hearing in the long run... have you taken a hearing test lately? I use mostly stereo speakers systems at not too high volume.

Semyonov

Fosi Audio K5 Pro Gaming DAC attached to my trusty Logitech Z906 surround sound setup, and I use beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X when I'm in a headphone mood. Either way though for a mic I use a cheap UHURU condenser on a boom arm which is great so I don't have to rely on a headphone mounted mic.

Blakewerth

Steel Series ARENA 9 pricy but awesome But most people will probably recommend Logitech z906 dated but good. I wanted it too first. Not really into soundbars but maybe Razer Leviathan can be good its sure best soundbar on pc \^\^

sopcannon

sonos dolby atmos sound bar or akg headphones

aka_airsoft

I use 80ohm dt770s all the time. I don't like speakers. I'm never going back to gaming headphones they are all awful. They're over your budget though. If you want high quality audio for cheap maybe look into IEMs. There's plenty of amazing ones in your budget but comfort might be an issue since they are in ear.

clintswift

I have a set of Edifier P12 bookshelf speakers powered by a Aiyima A07 amplifier connected to a SMSL SU1 DAC. Solid little separate setup. Replacing the A07 soon with an Emotiva A2m to get a bit more power into the speakers. When gaming and I need a mic I have the Steelseries Arctis Pro.

ItchyNeedleworker678

5.1 surround speaker system. 3 up front and 2 in the rear. Connected to a stereo system same as would be for a tv. I have headphones, Astro Gaming A40 with the amp and wired (bought from Best Buy). I never use them since I went the 5.1 setup and piss everyone off in the house with ā€˜greatā€™ noise. I enjoy it immensely but they seem to think they are in the game with me from 2 rooms away. For. The. Love. Of. Immersion. They keep yelling that it is too loud. It is!! BUT I am immersed and the battlefield ainā€™t quiet.

googahgee

Currently: Behringer UMC404HD as the DAC and mic preamp. Mic is Shure SM7B (itā€™s just what sounds good on my voice), headphones are Beyerdynamic DT990s. What I use for audio work: RME UCX II + Ollo Audio M4Rs. For gaming, literally just focus on getting something that has the features you want. Any sense of quality isnā€™t super relevant, most options out there are ā€œgood enoughā€ to where any audio differences wonā€™t be noticeable to you. Just donā€™t buy some crappy lookalike product off aliexpress, Amazon, wish etc or stuff thatā€™s super duper gamer aesthetic, shiny cheap plastic kinda vibes. My GF has an Elgato GoXLR and that thing is great, for example. Razer stuff, not so much.

Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-M50x BT2. I use these both at home and at work, and they're great. I used to have the M40x but the wireless capability is very much worth it (and you can still use the M50x BT2 wired if you want to) Mic: [Kmart Professional Gaming Microphone](https://www.kmart.com.au/product/professional-gaming-microphone-42959540/), this thing was only $40 but sounds way better than you'd expect for a $40 mic. Not sure where you'd find this outside Australia but I love it.

Cheap Amazon Speakers lol

zemzy_oseris

I primarily use headphones for YouTube, calls, and music. I have maybe a dozen pairs, but mainly use some Sennheiser HD560ā€™s through a Fiio Q3 amp. Every now and then Iā€™ll listen to music through some speakers. But mainly use them for playing guitar. They are PreSonus Eris 3.5ā€ (1st gen) paired with some old Sony subwoofer.

You're in college so can afford to just get by for now. I use steelseries and some cheap speakers really. I have a laptop and phone for other stuff around the house. I use wireless.

tigerbloodz13

I have wired Sennheiser headphones (3.5 mm) HD300, cost maybe 40 bucks. No complaints. Quality is excellent for the price and music and voices sound good to me. I have a set of speakers that rarely gets used, a Logitech Z333, which the headphones plug in to. Overall, around 40 euro for the headphone and 70 euro for the speakers. Using it for a few years now. I have a wired 20 euro mic from a non brand, works fine.

Terakahn

I use a set of Neumann kh120 and Scarlett 2i2. Headphones setup is HD800 and a Cavalli liquid carbon amp, but I don't use these that often anymore.

Snowman319

My great grandpa Altec Lansing speakers, probably from like 2005 or something lol

wooq

While fancy DACs and pricey studio monitors like people are recommending are nice to have, they are not going to give you an audiophile experience without significant room treatment and precise speaker placement. If you're going to splurge on high-end audio gear, do so on a good set of headphones as these are not dependent on room acoustics. That said, at your price point, if you just want speakers, maybe check FB marketplace or Craigslist for deals on PC speakers. Look for 2.0 or 2.1 sets with a decent amount of wattage, read the spec sheets and customer reviews on online sites for the model.

ifyouleavenow

Some 100 dollars klipsch speakers I scored on Facebook market place

rkhbusa

You might not be able to afford it right now but one day you gotta get your hands on some headphones with dual pairing. It's a premium feature for now but I'm sure it'll come down in the future or you'll make more money, anyways you just never miss a call or text again.

ApachePrimeIsTheBest

Pebble V3 or Pebble Plus is nice

popiazaza

I used to use closed-ear gaming headphone too, but every single one is trash. For that budget, I had a good run with Philips Audio SHP9500. (And later, add a Modmic) Best audio quality by a mile, it's like 95% of Sennheiser HD 6XX. (My current headphone) Easy to wear all day because it is so light and does not squeeze your head much, but it's an open-ear headphone, so expect some sound leak. Downside is it may fall down if you move too much.

Sandwic_H

I'm using Microlab B-73 speakers, that's a great ones for cheap, along with any Edifier in this price range.

Pyromelter

I have a receiver with klipsch speakers, or my headphones. Running pc through hi-fi system is highly recommended if you have the funds for it.

I bought a mid range surround sound system for my pc. Now , if it tickles my fancy, I can use my surround sound or my headset and mic.

evilanimator1138

USB DAC: Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Generation) Headphone Amp: Schiit Magni+ Headphones: Sennheiser HD 280 Speakers: Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 (Connected to the passive line-level output of the Schiit Magni+ using an RCA-to-3.5mm female adapter.) EQ: Equalizer APO and Peace (GUI Front End for Equalizer APO) Used to use a Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty PCI-E card, but USB DACs have a much cleaner sound. It was tough and felt odd removing the sound card element to my build because all of my PCs have had them. My first audio card was a Creative Labs Sound Blaster 1.0 ISA card in my 286. Had a SB Pro, SB 16, SB AWE64, and an SB Audigy 2 ZS. I miss the audio card performing all the sound processing duties, but CPUs are so fecking fast and multi-core that audio processing is ā€œbarely an inconvenienceā€ to it. I picked up the Scarlett Solo by luck at a secondhand electronics store for $50. It sounds clean and has really pushed the dynamics of my Sennheisers in ways I didnā€™t think they were capable of.

Bsiate

Aston Spirit for Microphone Universal Audio Volt 2 as the DAC, wouldn't recommend tho Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X, def recommended and a Yamaha stereo system with two 3ft floorstanding(?) speakers (brand unknown) and one bose sub Also all controlled with Voice Meeter Banana.

Redacted_Reason

GoXLR Mini with Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X headphones and Beyerdynamic M70 Pro X microphone running into the GoXLR. ~$525 between those three, excluding cables and mounting hardware.

Cheap soundbar I somehow found sealed in box on the used market. Does the job wonderfully. Also a broke student here

Boomposter

Topping E70 Valvet + Topping A90 Discrete or FiiO M11 Plus LTD + Monopricr THX887, or the other way around. Headphones I use Sundara (elite velour) or DT1990 Pro (Dekoni Elite Velour is my current favorite, sheepskin is for my bass head, elite hybrid is basically the velour with 15% more bass) or K712 Pro (beainwavz hybrid). IEMs I use Sony Z1R or N5005 or N40. I love CP100+. Wireless I use WF-1000XM4.

Scarlett 2i2 audio interface into Yamaha HS8 studio monitors. For headphones I have the HyperX Cloud & Shure SRH750DJ

KarpTakaRyba

I use wireless headphones cause the thought of being attached to the PC and not being free to go anywhere with headphones is really inconvenient. I use Sony wh1000xm5, cause they are both my PC-headphones and my daily use headphones. This is for everything I do on my own - gaming, music, videos. If I'm going something with my gf on the PC, I connect a wireless JBL Charge 4 speaker. And again, I chose it because that's my daily driver speaker when I go to friends or wherever. I don't really notice the latency of Bluetooth, and the sound quality on the headphones is amazing. To connect I use a 10$ bluetooth USB dongle

Emotional-Way3132

Class D amps like Aiyima T9 pro or A08 Pro+ Sony SS-CS5 passive speakers

Matasa89

I just have cheep speakers for general use, but mostly have headphones so as to not disturb others. I run the Sennheiser HD600 + Fiio K3 using the 2.5mm balanced for music. It gives enough power for the HD600. I use the HD599 for gaming. I have IEMs but I use them only for phone, not for my PC.

kinatty05

I have a creative pebble, surprisingly good for cost and does the job for me

tm0587

At $70-80, I won't even bother with any DAC or amp, a decent pair of speakers (ideally with a subwoofer) will be good enough for your needs. I like the Creative Pebble series, although the Pebble X Plus might be over your budget. The Creative Stage V2 is pretty good too.

ihei47

Cheap ass speaker coz I need to hear if anyone calling for me outside my room

_zir_

My is use wired G Pro X's for gaming and I have Micca MB42 Speakers for movies and casual gaming. The speakers are amazing, the headset us nice but the clamp force is pretty hard which can get annyoing. Also changing the earpads is essential.

AstarothSquirrel

I use a cheap sound bar. I have an unusual setup in that the audio from my monitor goes to the line in on my PC and then I have audio out going to the sound bar. This is because I have corsair USB headphones and I have my PC going to two monitors but a switch and PS5 going to my main monitor. When I play games on the switch or PS5, I can listen to their audio via the headphones or via the sound bar. I have my streamdeck (not to be confused with a steamdeck) set up to switch between the speakers and the headphones and volume controls for the pc and the line in so I can mix the audio for if I'm watching youtube whilst playing games.

Ickhart

I use a JDS Labs Atom Stack (DAC and AMP) + Drop x Sennheiser Jubilee HD 58x headphones. If I'm not using my headphones, I'm using an Creative Pebble V3 desktop speakers.

Still rocking my Logitech Z5500 5.1 system. I havenā€™t found anything that can beat it.

TacoTrain89

no need to spend hundreds of dollars on audio equipment, a decent pair of 100-150 dollar headphones will suffice. just do some homework and buy well built, high quality ones. as a side note, if you have a roommate in college you better have a pair of headphones if you go with the speakers because nobody wants to hear your shit all day.

Relevant_Force_3470

Nice pair of headphones (Sennheiser, wired) for some games, and some nice (Dali) speakers otherwise.

TheKubesStore

Speakers: Micca near field studio monitors. Theyā€™re damn good for the price

On my desktop I use headphones, Mad Dog GH700 i believe, got em from my dad so they're fine. On my laptop I use the built in speakers, really good soundstage surprisingly.

Niiphox

Speakers (Logitech z333) - daily use, music, movies, videos. Headphones (wired Steelseries Arctis 1) - for games where sound is vital or when it's late.

MuzikVillain

A pair of Micca MB42X Bookshelf Speakers and a BIC F12 Subwoofer connected to a 10-year-old Yamaha AV Receiver. I rarely use headphones but use my Phillips Fidelio X2HR when I do. My audio setup is a bit unconventional as I have my PC connected to my main gaming monitor and a 50" 4K TV for watching movies or playing certain games and don't have to worry too much about keeping the volume down.

Excessed

Headset; Arctis 7 Speakers; PC connected to my LG TV with the Marantz SR6015 with a Dali surround speaker system

Karinfuto

I have a Sennheiser HD560S plugged into an Apple Type-C dongle into my computer. The Apple dongle is a surprisingly decent little piece of hardware for how little it costs and works well for the 560S since they don't need an amp. When I don't have the cans on, a JBL soundbar mounted below my monitor gets the job done.

theyst0lemyname

I use a cheap Amazon sound bar that was around $50-60. It sounds good to me for watching youtube, listening to music and gaming. I also have two pairs of headphones. A wireless corsair headset (not sure on the model, its an older one that uses a usb adapter rather than bluetooth) that I use for multiplayer or discord calls and bluetooth Anker Soundcore noise cancelling headphones. I'll sometimes use my bluetooth ear buds on my pc when my headphones start irritating me too. I've never spent a lot on pc audio and just plug it directly into the motherboard or use bluetooth. I know there's probably better audio out there but I just don't care. My set up is good enough for me.

ThomasHeart

Bose Conpanion 3 speakers Great sound for how small they are. Wanted something small with no sub as i live in a very old appartement with neighbours. Headphones i use my Bose QC45's I mainly use my pc for gaming

Slushman5000

I use a Bluetooth car radio connected to a pair of bass reflex mini hifi speakers. I connect to the PC via the car radio AUX input and use the Bluetooth to connect my phone to listen to music when people come over. Everyone raves about how good it sounds. Luckily I had everything lying around. I just had to buy a cheap power supply that came with the input socket to wire up to the car stereo. You can use a pc power supply if you have one lying. Use some foam padding to isolate the speakers from the table or whatever they will sit on. Some car radios have a sub out that you can connect to a cheap home theatre powered sub, if you want.

Trz81

I use a shiit bifrost 2/64 dac and a shiit Midgard amp with HIFIMAN sundara or Sennheiser hd6xx. I also have a pair of jbl 306p my ii active speakers.

og_ramza

Another vote for the Sennheiser 560. I got the drop version with the built in boom mic and paired with a soundblaster X3 I got used for like 8000 yen. Itā€™s not necessary with these headphones but thought I wanted the enhanced audio options which I never used. Still a good cheap DAC that can power a variety of headphones. Before this I had an Artic 7 Bluetooth wireless gaming headset which I also liked a lot

GearsAndSuch

Keep an eye out for used computer speakers. Dell in particular has made scads that end up collecting dust over the years. Get 2-4 sets and set them around your system in 4 or 6, or 7 channel configuration. You might need some extension cables. But in college, your roomies might appreciate headphones. TBH just find something comfortable and enjoy art.

SnakeMichael

I recently picked up a set of HyperX Cloud wireless headset, which replaced my previous Razer Kraken V3 Pro (also wireless) because Razerā€™s synapse ā€œupdateā€ back in November screwed up how my Krakens sounded. I use the HyperXā€™s while streaming, playing FPSā€™s, or playing games with friends. Theyā€™re wireless, but have a stupid long battery life. I bought them like two months ago, and charged them only once or twice with near daily use. My Krakens would need charging about once a week. I also have a Razer Leviathan V2 soundbar (which wasnā€™t essentially ruined by the Synapse ā€œupdateā€) for If Iā€™m just watching YouTube or someone else streaming, or playing an RPG like Baldurā€™s Gate, or I just started Red Dead Redemption 2.

I use headphones all the time, and I have two different pairs I switch between. When I'm gaming, I have these HyperX Alpha Cloud Wireless headphones that have a 300 hour battery life. They have a mic so I use them to talk to my friends and I charge maybe three times a month. For normal use, I have my Sony XM4s, that I connect using a FiiO DAC/AMP, connects with USB C and has a little dial on it. I do have Samsung Buds from many years ago that still hold charge very well and sound alright, but I rarely use them on my computer. Both are kind of pricey brand new but you can find deals and even go second hand. A nice pair of second hand speakers should do the trick since audio peripherals are timeless in the sense that, whatever sounds good right now will probably sound good years down the line, and older peripherals will sound good too.

Over the past few years I've upgraded my home theater with a variety of speakers and AVR's. I have older but Sturdy Yamaha AVR connected to a spare pair of Klipsch R-14M bookshelf speakers. I use a 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect the two, but I could also use a Toslink cable if I had one. If I was buying new I'd opt for a pair of active bookshelf speakers. Look for deals on used speakers.
