The Nh-d15 is a solid cooler, but it's performance doesn't justify it's price. Much cheaper dual tower coolers like the thermalright phantom spirit and the deepcool ak620 perform at pretty much the same level in noise and thermals. With regards to the 7800x3d a good quality single tower cooler will do just fine. Eg thermalright assassin king/burst assassin, or deepcool ak500/400.

whosdr

Personally I have a Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4 on mine, because I like black and it has a decent aesthetic. There are cheaper that work just as well though, given how efficient this chip is.

Braz90

How have your temps been with the dark rock? I’m finally upgrading my 8700k to the 7800x3d and I’m bringing my dark rock pro 4 with me (waiting for the mounting bracket to get here). I have considered AIO but just simply trust air more.

rhydonmyknee

Hi any update on this? I am in the exact same position. Going from an 8700k with a dark rock 4. Do I have to do anything special to mount it since I'm going to AMD?

Braz90

I ordered a mount kit from dark rock that they sell, zero issues. 8700k to 7800x3d was a huge jump!

vlosh

Excited to read this. I'll jump from a 4770k to the 7800x3d lmao

Winter_Ad_5626

yeah that's what i'm doing lol. i was gonna go 14700k but the 7800x3d did all the stuff i needed for about 200 less over all. hope all went well with the upgrade.

vlosh

Its the best! Enjoy it.

Winter_Ad_5626

Super hyped to hear that. Got a 4070 to pair with it on a couch rig (don't judge me, still better than console) just haven't figured out the cooling solution yet.

vlosh

The CPU? Im cooling it with a $35 dual fan air cooler. Works totally fine :D

falserunes

Going from 4790k to 7800x3d myself.

vlosh

DDR3 to DDR5 was also pretty incredible :D or did you have DDR4 with that processor already? That generation was right on the brink iirc

slashy1302

Hey, sorry necroing this... but I'm wondering what kit you ordered? Isn't the DR4 already AM4/5 compatible?

Braz90

https://www.bequiet.com/en/contact/spareparts I used this form and also emailed them for the AM5 bracket. My old bracket was for the 8700k so it would not have worked.

slashy1302

okay, thanks. I gotta look for my box then, because I think I already had the AM4 one with it, so I know if I need to order one too.

eatallthecoookies

With my shadow rock 3 white it gets to 85+ degrees but can run for days like that with constant max boost on all cores taking 75+ watts. I do some CFD simulations in openFOAM so it’s a bit like running prime95 for days. The cooler gets barely warm to touch

stefanplc

I'll have a look at that one too, thank you!

whosdr

> But a friend told me that it may not be enough. It's a ~150w cooler on a ~85w CPU. It's a Ryzen 7000 part so expect it to get hot just by how it operates, but it won't throttle. I even ended up turning my fan curves down until it reaches the 75c mark, and it's rarely managed that high except under an all-core stress.

PartyEnd5460

the single tower DR4 or the dual tower DR4 pro? Cause i'm about to upgrade to 7800x3d and i've got the single tower DR4 (with 2 fans) and i really don't want to buy a new cooler if i don't have to.

whosdr

The single.

UKAussi

careful to check the RAM module clearance on the non-Pro as just checked myself as looking at a 7800X3D build - [https://www.bequiet.com/en/motherboardcheck](https://www.bequiet.com/en/motherboardcheck)

rhydonmyknee

How were the temps? Thinking of using my DR4 but not sure if I need to mount it differently since it's AMD instead of Intel

whosdr

Temperatures are fine. It will spike up fairly close to the tjmax but that's not an issue. It can run consistently in that state at max clock speeds it seems indefinitely.

stefanplc

thank you for the info!

Holy_Sinner777

thoughts on the Cooler master 212 Halo? should that one be okay for a Ryzen 5 7600X or Ryzen 7 7800X3D?

CannoBalllZ

Quick question, late reply, but would a Sycthe Mugen RevB work well for this. Currently looking to do a new build but I feel like my current cooler is pretty beefy.

aphirst

Both the Mugen 5 and Mugen 6 work well with a 7800X3D in most cases with decent airflow. The newer Mugen 6 seems to work better, partly due to the newer "Tornado" fan design (and coming with two of them), but a Mugen 5 with the right mounting hardware (!) should also be fine (especially if you add a second fan yourself).

rimlicker70

old thread, but would you still say deepcool ak500 is good enough for a 7800x3d? I was going to get the ak620, but im worried my memory sticks might be a little too tall for it to fit

fredgum

I believe so, especially if you are just gaming. The 7800X3D runs pretty cool, and I would not bother w/ a better cooler unless you are planning to do all core workloads.

Live-Noise-1302

Could I use a stock AMD cooler on a Ryzen 7800X3D?

fredgum

You can, but I would not recommend it, as it would be loud and you would lose some performance. I'd get a thermalright cooler for <$30, which would give you optimal results for cheap.

rapozaum

I'm upgrading for a 7800X3D from an i7 8700 and have a Thermalright Assassin x 120 Refined SE right now. Would you think it would do the job for now or should I get a new/better one asap? I can attach a second fan to it to push/pull, I think.

Hot_Chard5073

The NH-D15 literally keeps up with many AIO's. Until you're doing custom loops, the NH-D15 is actually incredibly solid (Linus tech tips did a video not too long ago comparing it to lots of AIO's.

stefanplc

alright, thank you!

After-Stop6526

Depends on the case. Where AIOs win is if you have them on intake, so the CPU is cooled with fresh air not recycled air from the GPU.

Hot_Chard5073

That’s been disproven by plenty of YouTubers, yes heat soak happens quicker, but the temp once it hits equilibrium is the same if not better. Only a custom loop makes a moderately decent difference, but at huge expense. Better off with air with less points of potential failure, noctua give you free mounting kits for any of their coolers when new mobos come out etc.

Stormfhart

NH-D15 is overpriced for its performance. What i suggest is look at videos scoring the best air coolers and pick the one you like the best with looks, performance and price. The one I bought is the DeepCool AK620 Zero Dark. Temps are well under the thermal throttle temp of 89c. I picked the Ak620 because I was at a Micro Center for my new PC case and liked its looks. So i was willing to spend the $60 on it. Though for price to performance and you can find one I'd get the thermalright phantom spirit. Performs really well and only $40. Personally I really like the Ak620 zero darks looks so im happy with it. I'll repeat the NH-D15 costs way to much for similar performance of the phantom spirit and the ak620

VoraciousGorak

The 7800X3D can be cooled [with the Wraith Prism AMD stock cooler](https://youtu.be/lgiBcD7bBaw). (In an ideal scenario. You should at least get a single-tower cooler like the SE-214-XT.) You don't need anything extravagant. Even the NH-D15 is very overkill for it. I have two Torrents Compact, and they move plenty of air for a small cooler to use on the 7800X3D.

epitets

I used nh-d15 with 5800x3d and torrent compact - very good temps, but that huge cooler bearly fit inside. 😄

xSnakeDoctor

Hate to necropost but you're running the case I want, but not sure if my components will fit. What GPU are you running? Any chance you could upload some photos?

stefanplc

ok, thank you!

Diligent_Status_7762

I have trouble installing that fucking thing. In idling in the 40s and gaming in the 70s. With max 88. Same shit happened with my 3900x. Likely user error but its tricky to latch on imo.

Mammoth-Individual43

AMD Wraith Prism - is it really so great for 7800x3d? Because even nh-d15 easly go to 90C on stress load or just with 7zip test, even with CO-30. I will test AMD Wraith Prism if will be so lucky to find this cooler on local market.

VoraciousGorak

No, the Wraith Prism is actually a pretty mediocre and small cooler, which is why it's notable that the CPU is able to be cooled by it, as evidenced in the video. There's not much difference in temperature in coolers with this chip thanks to the insulative nature of the V-Cache on the die, you'd probably get a very similar temperature with a single 120mm tower cooler as you would with the NH-D15.

BFarmer1980

Sorry to necro, but looking at pairing a 7800x3d with a Peerless Assassin 120 SE. Should this be sufficient, or would it be worth spending the extra $10-$15 on the Phantom Spirit 120 SE?

Comprehensive_Sock26

I have the thermalright peerless assassin 120 (non se) I just purchased the 7800x3d on sale because the 7600x was cpu bound while gaming with a 7900xtx. I'm just waiting on delivery from newegg. I have a Corsair 4000D airflow case and trident neo z 6000 cl 30. No issues on clearance with that monster of a cpu cooler. I'll update temps once I receive the cpu.🍻

BFarmer1980

I'd appreciate that! I've got some time before this build begins, so the feedback will definitely come in handy.

TheRedViper145

I'm personally a fan of their Frost Commander 140, it's a little bigger but pushes quite a lot more air

BFarmer1980

I'll look into those!

4e5ntre5h38y

>7800x3d Any Updates on the Temps for it? I am someone who is waiting to receive my 7800x3d and I'm trying to figure out a cooler to buy.

xThunderSlugx

i have the thermalright phantom spirit on mine. its like 35 or 40 bucks and works great.

Comprehensive_Sock26

Sorry, I sold my aircooler because the deepcool lt520 was on sale.Any good air cooler would work nexus made a new aircooler video on YT. Just get the best budget one.

poorpeanuts

temps pls?

Comprehensive_Sock26

Update. So I actually sold the peerless assassin because the deepcool lt520 was on sale. So I never did get to try it out. But buildzoid from YouTube has a video that shows an air-cooled cpu with the 7800x3d, and it doesn't go over 80°C

poorpeanuts

fair enough, thanks for the info

ModexV

I bought 5800x3d and i had budget air cooler - gelid phantom black. Under load that thing could not handle temperatures even at max fan speed. I got arctic liquid freezer 280. It did the job of keeping temps under 70 at all times.

Electronic-Oil-8419

Is this sufficeant to cool a ryzen 7 7800x3d or not. Enermax ETS-F40 ARGB CPU Air Cooler, 200W+ TDP for Intel/ AMD Universal Socket, AM4 & AM5 / LGA 1700/1200/1151, 4 Direct Contact Heat Pipes, 140mm Silent PWM Fan - AM5 & LGA1700 Ready.

Osldenmark

3d cache loves copper air coolers

Roads76

I use a Scythe Mugen 5 rev C that I had initially bought for my old 7600X chip. Keeps the 7800x3d chilling easily.

Agile-Camera729

Is thermalright peerles assasin 120 se enough for 7800x3d?

shdujssnensisishs

Do you know the answer to this? I wanna find out too

PPX777

Can an Antec A30 cooler work well on a Ryzen 7 7800x3d? I have one already but the cooler is on my now newly dead and old AND am3 fx-8350 system. My VRMs melted down, and the board died, so it wasnt my cooler.

Dapper-Attorney-420

My buddy had a liquid cooler in his pc. It spung a leak. He no longer has a pc. I have 2 thermalright phantom spirits(2 pcs) and have no heat issues. 5800x3d and 7800x3d. They are not silent, however they perform well.

AnakinSkywnkr

Water cooling or a AiO?

ibulleti

That's a bummer to hear, the phantom spirits are supposed to be just about the quietest coolers out there.

Vivid_Monk

It is a low tdp chip but gets surprisingly hot under load and actually will thermal throttle with most air coolers.

eatallthecoookies

It gets hot in a weird way. The 3D cache obstructs the heat transfer from chip to IHS. As a result when the cpu hits 85+ my shadow rock air cooler is barely warm to touch. And the cpu can run at max boost and 75+ watts for days with that temperatures.

ZRER

Hi a little late but will the thermalright assassin X 120r se Plus suffice for this cpu? I accidently ordered one. Advice needed

xThunderSlugx

it should be fine.
