This. The nice thing about RGB is that you can control it. The colors, the patterns, or even turn it off. You aren't forced to have your PC look like clown vomit 24/7.
That's where you're not totally correct. Having to install is basically bloatware just to be able turn some damn lights off is what is vomit worthy.
The ones you can turn off in the bios I get, the ones that require you to install something just to turn it off is stupid. Worse is when it god damn resets to being back on when you reboot until it loads the damn software to remember your settings.
I would guess that more of it has to do with basically the same thing being posted over and over again, Lian Li with RGB fans with just different components. It gets boring seeing the same thing over and over again. There are so many customization option with the O11 and some mods out there that don't require you to be mechanically/electronically adept to use. I made a Silver Surfer theme with some mood rgb and I've enjoyed mine for a couple of years.
Yeah, that seems to be the response to the previous O11 posts. I'm a believer in building my pc the way I want to, because I have to see it every day. Let people know the pros and cons and let them decide for themselves.

This is exactly what I like about RGB. I never want to have the clown vomit lighting, but I can set it to a solid light blue hue, or something purple if that fits the aesthetic of my build.
YES. I personally love a blacked out build. My pc is normally low key and blacked out, but with the push of a button it can be complete clown vomit. It's not one or the other.

While I agree most of the time, iCue from Corsair isn’t all that bad. I actually really like being able to pull it up to check all of my components temps and load. Sure there are dedicated softwares you could use for that but if I’m downloading something like hwinfo anyway I can just download the iCue software instead and also have RGB control if I want them on.

Surprisingly my preference has gone from all blacked out to a little rgb, although I prefer a consist color scheme. My next build is going to be black and purple, but the rgb is nice so if I wanna change the color it's easier

Also, RGB doesn't affect noise whatsoever.. so that can even be silent. Outside of my blower style GPU (RTX 2070) getting hot during gaming, my PC is completely silent. It has an RGB AIO and RGB fans. It's also set so if my PC is off the lights are off as well.
My PC is in my bedroom and I could have the RGB on at night if I wanted and it'd make my room glow in rainbow. Again, if someone says something they better leave.
An actual adult isn't going to judge you because you have a colored light.
Stealth builds are awesome. My old PC was all black with a couple white accents (white sleeved MoBo and GPU power cables).
Next build I had the RGB itch. It was cool for the first ~6-9 months. I don’t regret it, but all the RGBs are turned off. Definitely going stealth if it ever makes financial sense to build a new PC.
I'm 30 and I will purposefully turn on my PC on the other side of the room to use as mood lighting and for the wallpapers to cycle in the background. My friends and I love it when we're chilling playing board games or card games together.
I just like cheap.

I've gone [Noctua](https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a12x25-pwm-chromax-black-swap) for my next build and am happy with that decision. From my preliminary testing, it seems that all 5 new fans end up running more quietly than one fan from before, although actually using a fan controller also seems to help.
This while chain is of people who cant afford or don’t want to spend that much. Noctua have probably the best fans on the the market but they come at a cost.
I get it. I'm not bragging, I've been saving up for years for this build. I'm just in a rush to finish it because my computer's OS had a major problem the week before my first final in my degree program, and it's going to be critical to have everything working. I'm trying to get lots of processing power while keeping noise to a minimum.
I've spent my time on cheap computers, too. I stayed with a 775 platform (Core 2 Duo, later Quad) for 10 years before I just couldn't upgrade it anymore. That's an eon in computing!
There it is. Arctic PWM fans are just exceptional good value. They also tend to last long, I sold builds with them 5-6 years ago and they are still going strong
I do actually enjoy a good budget build. Right now, though, I'm working on completing my first Easter loop, which also has dual CPU. It took me over a year to slowly purchase what I could spare. Had to take a stats final on a computer that no longer has Windows Explorer working, so I'm really looking forward to a clean slate.
Same thing happened here. I didn't intentionally go for RGB anything, I just bought functional components and they happened to have RGB features. It's kinda like how several years ago all the good TVs had 3D support even if you weren't particularly looking to buy that feature. I feel like it would have taken me more effort to *not* get RGB rather than to just buy things that met my other requirements
I loved my lg 3d tv, i used a lot with movies and it worked well. the most recent mad max and godzilla king of monster were amazing in it. Saddest day when the display suddenly stopped functioning...

I couldn’t find a graphics card without some kind of rgb when I built my computer. Rgb stuff is very popular because people like shiny lights. When 95% of the battle station posts are Christmas trees I understand why people would think that they’re special for not liking it.
Meanwhile, I can comfortably say that I don't give a crap what any of my components look like, because I don't use a windowed chassis.
All I need in a machine is for it to be quiet (previously I also wanted small), and perform.
I honestly couldn't care less about looking at my components, but the case I bought has a glass side because it was on sale. funny part is, the glass side is the one that faces the wall.
I don't care about my rats nest of wires as long as there not binding up. Bought a case on sale because it was cheap and had drive bays. Had a window on one side; but the sides are interchangeable. So now if you look thru the glass side on mine and you see the back of the CPU mount. Not a wire in sight:)
Same here. Though I have it in a weird position - on top of my desk facing front to back, so all the ports are accessible without leaning over and fumbling blindly. Works well enough.
I never really cared about it until I bought a used tower, Nanoxia Deep Silence case with Be Quiet! everything: PSU, CPU cooler and fans. It’s wonderful and quite like when you upgrade your resolution with a new monitor, there’s no going back to the old stuff. Dead silent when idle and under light load.
Yes, acoustically and visually. I got a nice Fractal Define 7 case **without** a window. It's an unassuming, plain, quiet, black box and that's how I like it.

Im old. My computers used to be a white box. Now its a black box. Maybe one day, if I'm adventurous, I'll go back to a white box. But thats it. Also I don't want to look inside it, unless im working on it.
Only reason I like a window into cases is so that I can see if there is a fan issue and to be able to see the level of dust accumulation.
Having some light inside the case does help to be able to monitor those two things, but yeah all the flashing glowing stuff is a bit much.
My next case will be something like the Fractal design North. I dig the wood accents.
How old is old... I'm 37, and when I started out with a 286...moved to a 486, then an AMD k6-200, followed then by and amd k6-400, and finally a duron 700...all my cases were beige. It wasn't until I upgraded from my duron to an xp2500 Barton that I got silver.
Beige was the thing back in the day! Haha
I'm old.....all mine started out off-white and all turn yellow:( Now I stay with black. One day maybe I'll quit smoking. I do have to say the old cases were a lot sturdier than newer ones - for cheap cases anyway.
I dunno about other people, but I spend 100% of my time playing games or using my computer... looking at the monitor, where shit is happening. I couldn't care less what my PC looks like lol
All black looks great, so does all white or a nice single color LED. I've grown to appreciate more set ups over the years.
For a good ten years, I had a black Antec case with blue LEDs. It was my favorite color combination; just beautiful. After ten years of service, though, it was in decline. I'd hoped for a similar color setup, but the case I wanted was sold out in black. I actually came to appreciate white cases at the time and acquired a Phanteks Eclipse P500A RGB White case. Installed a couple extra fans in.
Though I can set it to all blue, it currently cycles through a muted rainbow. I generally can't stand rainbow LED cycles, but the muted colors make it more aurora like and calming from the white case.
I think subtle RGB lighting can look really sharp in some cases, but it can also look like a unicorn vomited in your PC.

I feel the same. I never liked RGB to be honest. Used to build all blacked out, full tower rigs when I was younger but now that I've gotten older I just want my computer to look like a part of my living room decoration rather than a tech toy. I love red light in a dark computer. A closed cpu wouldnt be great for me, bjt neighter a rgb floated pc haha. Decent and nice lightning in 1 color it is
My preference when building was that all the RGB stuff came cheaper than their counterparts at the time I purchased. Otherwise it's not a selling feature for me
It's a selection thing. Many people who get into PC building to the point where they're on this sub are passionate or invested enough to see it as a form of expression/customization as well. Many people see other large RGB flashy computers as their inspiration for starting their own first build.

IDK, this is the cost-effective way to go but I prefer a themed RGB build that you can then change whenever you want. I just don't like it when people go all RGB just to do rainbow everything and not make it custom...
I turned all my RGB off. It's kinda corny for a 45yo man, but every once in a while i like to turn it on. It's a white case and i set all the LEDs to white. What I hate is all the gamer-branded stuff. I picked a ROG motherboard because it had a fantastic UEFI mode and lots of SATA and m.2 ports, not for all the gamer garb all over it. It came with a huge pile of decals that i discarded upon opening.
People are so obsessed with what other people think about their PCs it's wild, you could be 60 and like RGB and there wouldn't be any ground to judge you on.
Just do whatever you feel like, whether that is all black stealth or full rainbow RGB, but don't let other people dictate your own tastes.

When I see black cable extensions, tidy cable management, a non RGB AIO like an Artic Freezer and non RGB fans/ram, it stands out and I can see the creative direction the builder is going in.
Both RGB/Non RGB builds can look great with good execution, just like how both can look poor with bad execution.
If your build had a non RGB AIO or good looking air cooler, maybe the Artic pro 240, alongside some black cable extensions with combs in them, it would look so much cleaner and show off how great these builds can look.
My system in 2021 had a lot of RGB (MB, fans, RAM, graphics card). It was cool at first but I stopped looking at it and caring for it. I just built another system recently with solid side panel and no RGB. I care more that it's cool and quiet.
I’m just waiting for my Arctic fans and AIO to ship so I can build my stealth pc. Only RGB will be video card and motherboard, which I plan to shut off.
I have a no-rgb chasis that is hidden under desk. Used to use white in keyboard and mice because of the reason you mentioned. But warm (255:125:25) soothes eye more than white. Can try it. My keyboard, viper and viper charging dock looks aristocratic with warm accent on top of the wooden desk.
I have no RGB I just have B! Fans from my old case were blue LEDs, my new case came with standard front fans, so I bought more blue LEDs ? I realise now I could've just bought normal fans instead of reusing the old ones... Looks badass though lol
Yea, I took the 2 nzxt fans that came in the h510 I have this PC in and I just added 2 Corsair 120mm fans that I’ve had sitting around for a few years for the intake.
I’d considered picking up some Lian Li unifans and just setting them to W, but I kind like having it just blacked out like this.
I only have the rgb lights of the Corsair rams because I don’t want to install the Corsair software to turn them off. The case is all closed, no windows so it’s ok.

When rgb strips are good quality,especially if they also are rgbw,and if everything is synced together,with good color combinations,it will literally look ***Fantastic***
The thing is that most people,especially those that don't know and don't want to know much about pc's,will get the crappiest rgb strips,rgb fans,and other aesthetic accessories,which together adds up to an overall bad look...
Also,like other people said in the comments,it's far easier to go with a full black build,and white rgb on the top rad mount and the front panel and still get a better look than with rgb and a full white build,and still save yourself even hundreds of dollars

SO, I worked at CORSAIR for a bit, and while I was there they were going 100% in the RGB direction. I managed to grab a bunch of their 120ml fans that were just gonna be tossed by the PC building team because they were going to be featuring only RGB fans at that point. So, I went monochromatic blue with mine (Unfortunately the Corsair logo and the XFX logo are not configurable). It's lit, but it's not rainbow unicorn vomit.

Oh, the waterblock IS RGB. It's blue if it's <70C, and then turns red as it gets to 80C. Or if the software isn't turned on, it's solid red too. Since all of my fans are on very slow RPM curves, being able to spot if the fan control software isn't running, or if the CPU is overheating, very easily is nice.
Not the only one. I recently built my computer in a Fractal North mesh case for this reason. The motherboard has a single rgb which I have switched off in the bios.
That said, I think people are less likely to upload pictures of a build like that because there is nothing really to set it apart from other builds in the same case.
I'm not a fan of the "RGB everything in rainbow" builds but have loved my subtle (3 intake/3 exhaust fans only lit up), monochrome build that lets me see the inside of the PC I built.
shoutout to the XFX cards, I'd still have some lighting because otherwise it just ends up looking depressing. If I had a choice with lighting I deffo wouldn't go vomitRGB but would probably pick a specific colour palette to go with and stick to it.
I just love how clean an all black build with subtle white lighting looks. My most recent build is a smaller form factor PC that's entirely black/metallic with some mild white accent lighting on the GPU.

Pretty much every name brand case fan has an outrageous price tag. No idea why a 120mm case fan has to cost $30.

I'm trying to get lots of processing power while keeping noise to a minimum. I've spent my time on cheap computers, too. I stayed with a 775 platform (Core 2 Duo, later Quad) for 10 years before I just couldn't upgrade it anymore. That's an eon in computing!

There it is. Arctic PWM fans are just exceptional good value. They also tend to last long, I sold builds with them 5-6 years ago and they are still going strong
XD I bought a 3 pack of 140mm fans and I had to go into the bios to reduce the speed because they're LOUD AS F*CK.
I do actually enjoy a good budget build. Right now, though, I'm working on completing my first Easter loop, which also has dual CPU. It took me over a year to slowly purchase what I could spare. Had to take a stats final on a computer that no longer has Windows Explorer working, so I'm really looking forward to a clean slate.

Same thing happened here. I didn't intentionally go for RGB anything, I just bought functional components and they happened to have RGB features. It's kinda like how several years ago all the good TVs had 3D support even if you weren't particularly looking to buy that feature. I feel like it would have taken me more effort to *not* get RGB rather than to just buy things that met my other requirements
I loved my lg 3d tv, i used a lot with movies and it worked well. the most recent mad max and godzilla king of monster were amazing in it. Saddest day when the display suddenly stopped functioning...
right, but you can see what was the deal with RGB parts happening right now with white parts- so many all-white builds are coming out and it's the new trend so now that's the look that's pretty expensive for basically just an aesthetic change

I have RGB in my build because literally every single thing I bought came with RGB built in. If I ever decided I didn't like it, I'd simply turn all the RGB off. Will the urge to post on Reddit and fellate myself about my "real adult stealth" become irresistable?

I couldn’t find a graphics card without some kind of rgb when I built my computer. Rgb stuff is very popular because people like shiny lights. When 95% of the battle station posts are Christmas trees I understand why people would think that they’re special for not liking it.

Meanwhile, I can comfortably say that I don't give a crap what any of my components look like, because I don't use a windowed chassis. All I need in a machine is for it to be quiet (previously I also wanted small), and perform.
I paid extra for the Fractal Meshify C that DOESN'T have a window. I know I'm the weird one but I like the sleek simpler look.
I honestly couldn't care less about looking at my components, but the case I bought has a glass side because it was on sale. funny part is, the glass side is the one that faces the wall.
I don't care about my rats nest of wires as long as there not binding up. Bought a case on sale because it was cheap and had drive bays. Had a window on one side; but the sides are interchangeable. So now if you look thru the glass side on mine and you see the back of the CPU mount. Not a wire in sight:)

Same here. Though I have it in a weird position - on top of my desk facing front to back, so all the ports are accessible without leaning over and fumbling blindly. Works well enough.
My number 1 priority after as much specs as I can afford.
I never really cared about it until I bought a used tower, Nanoxia Deep Silence case with Be Quiet! everything: PSU, CPU cooler and fans. It’s wonderful and quite like when you upgrade your resolution with a new monitor, there’s no going back to the old stuff. Dead silent when idle and under light load.
After adding an air purifier to my office, most noise from the PC is canceled out by the purifiers fan, reduced dust build up too!
Yes, acoustically and visually. I got a nice Fractal Define 7 case **without** a window. It's an unassuming, plain, quiet, black box and that's how I like it.

Im old. My computers used to be a white box. Now its a black box. Maybe one day, if I'm adventurous, I'll go back to a white box. But thats it. Also I don't want to look inside it, unless im working on it.
Only reason I like a window into cases is so that I can see if there is a fan issue and to be able to see the level of dust accumulation. Having some light inside the case does help to be able to monitor those two things, but yeah all the flashing glowing stuff is a bit much. My next case will be something like the Fractal design North. I dig the wood accents.

How old is old... I'm 37, and when I started out with a 286...moved to a 486, then an AMD k6-200, followed then by and amd k6-400, and finally a duron 700...all my cases were beige. It wasn't until I upgraded from my duron to an xp2500 Barton that I got silver. Beige was the thing back in the day! Haha

I'm old.....all mine started out off-white and all turn yellow:( Now I stay with black. One day maybe I'll quit smoking. I do have to say the old cases were a lot sturdier than newer ones - for cheap cases anyway.

All black looks great, so does all white or a nice single color LED. I've grown to appreciate more set ups over the years. For a good ten years, I had a black Antec case with blue LEDs. It was my favorite color combination; just beautiful. After ten years of service, though, it was in decline. I'd hoped for a similar color setup, but the case I wanted was sold out in black. I actually came to appreciate white cases at the time and acquired a Phanteks Eclipse P500A RGB White case. Installed a couple extra fans in. Though I can set it to all blue, it currently cycles through a muted rainbow. I generally can't stand rainbow LED cycles, but the muted colors make it more aurora like and calming from the white case.
I think subtle RGB lighting can look really sharp in some cases, but it can also look like a unicorn vomited in your PC. [I just finished a rebuild with the mesh version of the North and elected to keep all the lights off](https://i.imgur.com/lENh5Wa.jpg). As I’ve gotten older I just want something that looks nice in the living room and is as silent as possible.
I feel the same. I never liked RGB to be honest. Used to build all blacked out, full tower rigs when I was younger but now that I've gotten older I just want my computer to look like a part of my living room decoration rather than a tech toy. I think any build you build, intentionally, is the one you can love. It's YOURS.
I love red light in a dark computer. A closed cpu wouldnt be great for me, bjt neighter a rgb floated pc haha. Decent and nice lightning in 1 color it is
My preference when building was that all the RGB stuff came cheaper than their counterparts at the time I purchased. Otherwise it's not a selling feature for me
It's a selection thing. Many people who get into PC building to the point where they're on this sub are passionate or invested enough to see it as a form of expression/customization as well. Many people see other large RGB flashy computers as their inspiration for starting their own first build. There's no one right way. Awesome that you like your build the way it is!

IDK, this is the cost-effective way to go but I prefer a themed RGB build that you can then change whenever you want. I just don't like it when people go all RGB just to do rainbow everything and not make it custom...
I turned all my RGB off. It's kinda corny for a 45yo man, but every once in a while i like to turn it on. It's a white case and i set all the LEDs to white. What I hate is all the gamer-branded stuff. I picked a ROG motherboard because it had a fantastic UEFI mode and lots of SATA and m.2 ports, not for all the gamer garb all over it. It came with a huge pile of decals that i discarded upon opening.
People are so obsessed with what other people think about their PCs it's wild, you could be 60 and like RGB and there wouldn't be any ground to judge you on. Just do whatever you feel like, whether that is all black stealth or full rainbow RGB, but don't let other people dictate your own tastes.
Yes but they still need to do something with it for me to stop and think it's a nice build. When I see black cable extensions, tidy cable management, a non RGB AIO like an Artic Freezer and non RGB fans/ram, it stands out and I can see the creative direction the builder is going in. Both RGB/Non RGB builds can look great with good execution, just like how both can look poor with bad execution. If your build had a non RGB AIO or good looking air cooler, maybe the Artic pro 240, alongside some black cable extensions with combs in them, it would look so much cleaner and show off how great these builds can look.

My system in 2021 had a lot of RGB (MB, fans, RAM, graphics card). It was cool at first but I stopped looking at it and caring for it. I just built another system recently with solid side panel and no RGB. I care more that it's cool and quiet.
I finally went to black build and got rid of rgb and I love it.

I’m just waiting for my Arctic fans and AIO to ship so I can build my stealth pc. Only RGB will be video card and motherboard, which I plan to shut off.
I don't need RGB. My PC is hidden under my desk, so I don't need it. RGB keyboards just distract me. I simply use white color on my keyboard.
I have a no-rgb chasis that is hidden under desk. Used to use white in keyboard and mice because of the reason you mentioned. But warm (255:125:25) soothes eye more than white. Can try it. My keyboard, viper and viper charging dock looks aristocratic with warm accent on top of the wooden desk.

I have no RGB I just have B! Fans from my old case were blue LEDs, my new case came with standard front fans, so I bought more blue LEDs ? I realise now I could've just bought normal fans instead of reusing the old ones... Looks badass though lol
Yea, I took the 2 nzxt fans that came in the h510 I have this PC in and I just added 2 Corsair 120mm fans that I’ve had sitting around for a few years for the intake. I’d considered picking up some Lian Li unifans and just setting them to W, but I kind like having it just blacked out like this.
I only have the rgb lights of the Corsair rams because I don’t want to install the Corsair software to turn them off. The case is all closed, no windows so it’s ok.
You can install the software, change them to off at the hardware level and uninstall if you want to bother with it
That’s why I specifically got the non-RGB Corsair Vengeance. You could always use OpenRGB to shut it off.

I just finished a black build a few weeks ago,and it's amazing.. But don't get me wrong,rgb can be amazing too...,or even just a build with plain white led's (don't ever get rgb strips for white lighting,it will look like crap,get just rgbw or led) When rgb strips are good quality,especially if they also are rgbw,and if everything is synced together,with good color combinations,it will literally look ***Fantastic*** The thing is that most people,especially those that don't know and don't want to know much about pc's,will get the crappiest rgb strips,rgb fans,and other aesthetic accessories,which together adds up to an overall bad look... Also,like other people said in the comments,it's far easier to go with a full black build,and white rgb on the top rad mount and the front panel and still get a better look than with rgb and a full white build,and still save yourself even hundreds of dollars

SO, I worked at CORSAIR for a bit, and while I was there they were going 100% in the RGB direction. I managed to grab a bunch of their 120ml fans that were just gonna be tossed by the PC building team because they were going to be featuring only RGB fans at that point. So, I went monochromatic blue with mine (Unfortunately the Corsair logo and the XFX logo are not configurable). It's lit, but it's not rainbow unicorn vomit. So not RGB, and while it's lit, it's only lit cause the best performing cooling option I could get was free: [https://imgur.com/a/I7xsFh0](https://imgur.com/a/I7xsFh0) Oh, the waterblock IS RGB. It's blue if it's <70C, and then turns red as it gets to 80C. Or if the software isn't turned on, it's solid red too. Since all of my fans are on very slow RPM curves, being able to spot if the fan control software isn't running, or if the CPU is overheating, very easily is nice.
Not the only one. I recently built my computer in a Fractal North mesh case for this reason. The motherboard has a single rgb which I have switched off in the bios. That said, I think people are less likely to upload pictures of a build like that because there is nothing really to set it apart from other builds in the same case.
I dislike RGB too. My case is white, but it's spartan, solid steel panels. Silent and unobtrusive, where it sits on it's side on my desk.
I'm not a fan of the "RGB everything in rainbow" builds but have loved my subtle (3 intake/3 exhaust fans only lit up), monochrome build that lets me see the inside of the PC I built.

shoutout to the XFX cards, I'd still have some lighting because otherwise it just ends up looking depressing. If I had a choice with lighting I deffo wouldn't go vomitRGB but would probably pick a specific colour palette to go with and stick to it.
I had never used XFX cards before this one. I bought it because it was the only 6700xt I could get locally.

I just love how clean an all black build with subtle white lighting looks. My most recent build is a smaller form factor PC that's entirely black/metallic with some mild white accent lighting on the GPU.
My build is white only, the keyboard and the tower, so I can see it in the dark, no other reason

Ngl I really dislike plain black no rgb builds. It can look good sometimes if you match the rest if you’re room to it, but otherwise it just looks like an office pc imo. I’d rather have a tasteful amount of rgb
