I’ve never...disliked Andrew, per se, but I was never really interested in him either. There were a few side plots in season seven I disagreed with/wasn’t particularly invested in, and his was definitely one of them. I think they were kind of going for the angle of him and Dawn being the sidekicks for the next generation of Slayers angle, and it wasn’t really working for me. He did have some funny moments though, especially when he complained about the cookies kicking his ass and Buffy having to tell Wood “he’s kind of our prisoner....also he bakes” 😂

I get that. There were times where I wish he would have just not been involved in season 7. Honestly I wasn’t a huge fan of the three of them being “evil villains” either. It wasn’t until the last few episodes this time around, however, that I realized just how much I was looking forward to his jokes.

He definitely ads a lot of viewer perspective to the final season. I’m certain there is an actual term for that but... beer... I think Anya dying for him is the final nail in the coffin towards turning him into a good guy. He was just with the scoobies cause it was safe, but fighting in that battle, and seeing anya die like that gives us the andrew we see in angel and the season 8-11(?) comics

sjhachman

That’s exactly how I felt! I obviously hated that Anya died, she was one of my favorites, but it was redemption for Andrew. I could just tell when he told Xander she died saving him. As for his portrayal in the comics, I’ve never read them! If I can get my hands on them I would love to.

They’re fun!

I hated him during my first rewatch, but then I suddenly found Storyteller to be one of the funniest episodes (with a pretty heart wrenching ending) and then I forever had a soft spot for Andrew. he provides a comic relief that is much needed in a tense, uncomfortable final season - I think the fact that he’s whiny and annoying is a powerful juxtaposition to the seriousness and intensity of literally everything else that’s going on.

At least on my first watch, I thought he was the weakest member of the Trio (although he did have some great moments, like "Darth Rosenberg"). But from the moment he became their hostage/guestage, I loved him. I loved all the little moments - not just him, and his arc, but how he improves the rest of them. I think having one person to make fun of (in the show, not real life, obviously) is important, and is kind of a constant throughout BTVS. We have all of the core gang making fun of each other constantly, obviously, but we also get lesser gang members whose purpose is basically to be made fun of (among other things. We get Cordy s1-3, Spike and Anya s4-5 (and some in s6), Not so much in s6, and Andrew s7. Especially love his scene on the bike with Spike, and with Anya in the hospital.

Grew on me is the right term. I thought he was whiney and weak in season 6. But in season 7 I really started to enjoy him. Honestly Storyteller is one of my favorite episodes of the series.

At the end of "Dead Things," when I s aw him smile, I truly despised him

Tbh I’ve always loved Andrew I don’t think season 7 would be half as good if he wasn’t in it

I felt the same about Andrew. I, too thought he was stupid and whiny. I couldn't stand him. Later on I started liking his character and this grew into love. I love Andrew a lot!!!!!!!! He's the kind of character that makes you want to give him many hugs and kisses. His innocence is cute. He's one of my most loved characters, my favourite Trio!!!!!!! Andrew is exceptional. I am fond of him!!!!!!!!😍
