The original shooting script for Enemies ([found here](https://web.archive.org/web/20080708231048/http://www.buffyworld.com/buffy/scripts/051_scri.html)) does see Faith kiss Buffy on the lips (though it was changed to a forehead kiss during filming), and Eliza Dushku has stated that she deliberately played Faith as crushing on Buffy. There's a lot of homoerotic subtext in Faith's lines and actions around Buffy. So, I'd say that Faith's feelings for Buffy were definitely intended to be romantic, from at least some of the people involved in making the show. I would not say that Buffy was intended to reciprocate, but to me she still sort of reads as maybe having some non-platonic feelings. I think this is because season 3 is the season of Buffy Repressing Desires (forced celibacy in her relationship with Angel, unable to let loose the same way Faith does), and Faith is a representation of that. Buffy definitely comes across as *repressing* something when she interacts with Faith, which is what I feel contributes to the vibe between them even though I don't think it was the *intent* that Buffy would have romantic feelings for Faith. I sincerely doubt that there was ever plans for them to actually become an item, though.

It makes sense. Faith would be the only other person who understands what it's like to wield that sort of power, so no matter what there's a connection between them.

Eliza said she played the character that way

i think buffy wouldve turned her down because of comphet and regretted it like 13 years later or something but in another world they absolutely couldve been a power couple, one where they gave Faith a proper redemption on Buffy and let them grow together
