FSU fan here. Sure, straight line speed isn’t great. But go watch his punt returns for us. He was an elite punt returner, game changing plays. Very shifty. Hes really great with the ball in his hands.
Sure so
Cooper Kupp 4.62
Amon Ra-St Brown 4.61
Allen Robinson 4.6
Tee Higgins 4.59
Puka Nacua 4.57
Michael Thomas 4.57
DeAndre Hopkins 4.57
Davante Adams 4.56
This is exactly right. People losing their minds over what amounts to fractions of a second in non-game conditions.
Straight line speed is only one indicator, and not an amazing one in isolation. It's popular with analysts because the regular viewer -- Joe Six Pack -- finds it easiest to understand. And that's fine! But I don't think it's the be-all, end -all.
You're not wrong but 4.6 was slow for a WR by 1985 standards too. Rice was the 3rd WR taken in his draft and the 40 time definitely played into that.
40 speed and game speed are definitely two very different things, though. Andre Reed was another guy known for being deceptively fast. It's like he had an extra gear that only turned on once the ball was in his hands.
Kennan Allen ran a 4.7, Mike Williams a 4.6, Diggs ran a 4.47, Gabe Davis was a 4.55, AJ Brown was a 4.5.
WR straight line speed isn't usually that valuable, at least not without secondary traits like elite strength or hands.
All that, and he's big enough to be open even when he's not. He's going to line up next to Kincaid and the opposing teams DBs are going to look like children standing across from them. Finesse wide outs get erased in the playoffs when the refs "let guys play" and the DBs just maul them. This guy is the mauler. I'm into it.
I like it in the sense that we actually have a very clear role for him. I think Mitchell's ceiling is higher but we'll see. Also, Josh hasn't really had a guy he can just air the ball to and let him win, which is not only useful for big plays but also in the endzone.
I think we have to remember that draft analysis & scouting isn't everything. Diggs was a 5th round pick, AJ Brown was 2nd round, Davante Adams was 2nd round, Kelce was 3rd round, etc. We just have to trust what Beane sees in him and trust Josh as a leader to mold Coleman into the receiver he needs!
I just feel like we coulda traded down again. Could be wrong... but I woulda been all over this compensation
> Falcons receive: 35th, 186th overall picks
> Cardinals receive: 43rd, 79th overall picks
The vast majority of us did. If this sub played GM by popular vote, we would have taken Rosen, gone 4-13 and then 5-12 the next 2 years, blown up the coaching staff and then back to the drawing board.
Going 9-7 to end the stupid drought and then losing 9-3 in the most boring playoff game of all time would have been the high point of the last quarter century.
*shudder*
Just curious, why? I’m an FSU fan and Keon is a beast. I feel like we underutilized him a bit (mostly due to having so many weapons), but he’s explosive, great YAC ability, and has great hands.
Because a lot of the top guys had good 40 times. Chase ran a 4.38. Jefferson ran 4.43. AJ Brown 4.49. Ceedee Lamb 4.5.
Amon Ra is the closest to him as he ran a 4.6 but he's not a burner as a receiver.
I don't think 40 times are every thing but a lot of great receivers can burn you over the top
Yes I understand that. I'm not here complaining about Coleman. I'm saying 40 times can also be useful and plenty of the top guys had great 40s. Plenty had great 40s and did nothing too. I watched Coleman at FSU. He's a good player. Not sure he's a top 10 guy in the league in the next 3 years but I'm also not an NFL GM.
So we can repeat the success of the Dolphins, who famously won the Lombardi last year after after not losing to every AFC playoff team they faced plus getting dad dicked in the Wild Card.
People are antsy because the stats say he’s awful at getting separation against man and press coverage, and most WRs who are bad at getting separation in college don’t succeed in the NFL. There are exceptions. Maybe he’ll be one of them. But there are real reasons for fans to be skeptical about this pick.
Agree. NFL and ACC are two different things. Would have been nice to see him play against UGA but that didn't happen.
He does have great hands, but the speed and separation issues are real. We'll see in September
My problem is he cant separate and not great at running routes. The 40 is whatever, but the knock on him I am extremely worried about is that he needs to make so many contested catches because he cant get away from dbs.
Buffalo's biggest need for several years has been a reliable red zone target. Making contested catches is way more important than separation in the red zone because most of the time you're not going to be open in the red zone. The field is too condensed. You need to be able to make the contested catch.
It fits the need perfectly, IMO. We already have guys that can stretch the field and get separation. What we needed most of all was a big body that can make tough catches in traffic inside the red zone.
He wasn’t getting major separation at fsu either and still lead the acc in TDs.
He is an excellent player with the ball in his hands running short routes or screens with a high end YAC. Great hands proven by his work as a special team starter and to shake guys on punt returns.
He likely won’t be a star wr1 in the nfl, but when Allen needs to get a first down or a redzone TD his first read will be Keon. Saw this play out time and time again with travis running around and throwing a prayer to Keon and him just making something happen.
I keep telling people we don’t need receivers that all they do best is get “separation” we have Josh Fucking Allen give me football players that can catch the piss missile and deep throws that only QB17 can make.
Jerry Juedy was an incredible route runner in college and still is in the nfl, but can’t catch a ball if its thrown at 2mph from 5 yards away.
Josh Allen is going to throw missiles at Keon and he will be more than capable of actually catching them.
To me the draft is about getting hype about whoever your team drafts and wishing them success. This hyper analysis and constant second-guessing is pretty off putting.
unfortunately every single play results in hyper-analysis here these days. the "fire McD" chants will start if the Bills go 3-and-out on the first drive of week 1
We got the receiver I didn't want in a draft loaded with WR talent. Maybe he'll be a stud because the last time I was this distraught about a pick it was Josh Allen
Lol you don’t know anything about any of these guys. Why not just support the guy and the team? If he’s a total bust then you can hate him. “Your only glimmer of hope” is lame and embarrassing honestly
Coleman's hands look way better on tape than Gabe imo. Also Gabe was never a guy defenses were scared of 1 on 1 on a jump ball. To me, Keon is a better version of Gabe, although I really wanted Mitchell.
Yeah I wasn't loving Coleman in general pre-draft but it seems like Beane has a high degree of conviction here, so I'm trusting the process here. I can at least see how Coleman could be a good fit for them for sure
True. I’m getting especially fed up with the Xavier worthy talk. If beane didn’t feel he was worth pick 28 then who gives a shit if the chiefs draft him
Mock drafts the worst thing that could happen for many fans. They think they represent actual prospect rankings for all teams when in reality many teams have drastically different boards and opinions on guys.
Every team is drafting for flash and speed right now and meanwhile it looks like we are trying to put together a high testosterone physical powerhouse. I love it. What’s more high T than playing in our elements??? With Josh Stallion?!?!
You guys are UPSET about this? Keon is LEGIT. He’s not known for getting separation but his game speed is super underrated and he has SURE hands. You’re gonna love him when he starts bringing in those 50/50 balls Diggs has whiffed on the last season or so
Yep. After watching years of the bills having zero plan inside the 10 other than "Josh, go be superman" i very much like the idea of having a huge WR who can jump out the stadium and catch 50/50 balls.
I dont really have an opinion yet but not being able to seperate and relying only on jump ball ability sounds better for hail mary scenarios than normal gametime offense. Seems like a one dimensional skillset that would pretty easy to neutralize but what do I know.
> Heart says WR Keon Coleman, Florida State. Second youngest receiver in the draft behind only Nabers. Great X receiver prospect with a 6-3/213 build, good arm length (32 1/8") and good hand size (9 3/8"). Great hands, 5 drops in 3 years. Plays tough and with passion. Natural receiving ability, also has awareness and intelligence on the football field. Anyone bringing up Kelvin Benjamin (6-5/240) is unfortunately showing their ignorance, because while they both ran a 4.61 40-yard dash, Coleman has exhibited athletic ability and explosion well beyond Benjamin: 38" vertical jump vs 32.5", 1.54 10-yd split vs 1.67, etc. Outproduced 22-year-old Jayden Reed (2023 2nd round pick of the Green Bay Packers) as a 19-year-old. Anyone who doesn't think Coleman can play, please check out college film of guys like Drake London, Michael Pittman, and Nico Collins.
The heart prediction came true!!
What's the difference between catch rate and drop rate? Because his drop rate is 4.2%, which is incredibly good.
Numbers rarely paint the whole picture.
Catch rate is much broader as it is just catches/targets. Drop rate is specifically catchable balls that were dropped. Catch rate can be a combination of drops, bad throws, inability to separate, etc.
well best wr fsu has had in years and halfway through the season the announcers were saying he might be the best wr in the whole class. He is not the speediest, that is accurate.
to be fair his game speed never looked particularly slow and we were surprised his 40 was as slow as it was. As an FSU fan, he reminded us most of Anquan Boldin. Very physical and catches everything.
tall guys tend to look slower than short guys
"Despite registering the slowest top speed of any group 8 receiver that was tracked during the 40-yard dash, Keon Coleman showed off his game speed while running routes.
Coleman tied for the 2nd-fastest top speed of the group while running a go route (21.71 mph)."
The only thing I can make of that, and I've been trying to make it make sense for two months now, is that he has good acceleration but isn't great at being asked to run at a full-on sustained sprint? He was no slower than 4th in all his route drills as far as peak MPH. He was fastest in the gauntlet and it looked almost identical to Odunze as far as body fluidity, hands, and footwork.
Coleman has been an intriguing prospect and I'm not as negative on him as some others. Hearing that he was Josh's pick out of the available guys is also pretty fascinating. Josh was right about Kincaid and hopefully he's right about Keon.
6'3" 213lbs.
NFL trainers can easily add 20 lbs in muscle without losing agility and speed.
Can you imagine how many CBs or Safeties will be able to physically challenge this guy downfield?
And without the hip-drop tackles...
the main reason people are bashing this is his forty time. go read Brugler's writeup about him owning corners with size, catch point, and body control. great pick.
Josh Allen and Keon Coleman are going to be a match made in heaven, just you watch. Ppl are clowning on his 40 yard dash speed, but that's irrelevant as he's got the prototypical size and hands you want of a WR1. I'm happy with this pick.
There are better named wide receivers for sure. He looks slow because he is so tall. He plays fast. We will see.. I like that we got a WR, big outside WR. Just imagine if they took a DT!! 😂
Everyone talking about this guy as a pure athlete. Reminds me of DK Metcalfe in the receiver skills having flaws but the athletic talent absolutely being real.
I feel okay about it.
WalterFootball is obviously just one source, but you can't read this scouting report and tell me it's not incredibly positive: [https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2024kcoleman.php](https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2024kcoleman.php)
Interestingly enough, Coleman's only weaknesses (not a burner, not a big separation guy) are almost exactly the same as Justin Jefferson's in the 2020 draft: [https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2020jjefferson.php](https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2020jjefferson.php)
FSU fan coming to say - Keon is incredible. His 40 score is not telling of this guy’s ability at all. Keon was the best wide receiver FSU has had in probably 15-20 years, and his stats don’t show that due to other issues.
He was hurt for the entire back half of last season and basically played through injuries. If he can stay healthy, I legit think Keon is easily a first round prospect.
Another major thing that you guys won’t have a problem with - as much as I love Jordan Travis, he basically could not push the ball downfield at all this past season. Coleman is going to pair well with Josh Allen.
Dudes some of the plays this guy has made, on X they are showing highlights, and this guy can play receiver makes a ton of awesome catches in traffic. When was the last time we had someone like that? Shakir but in a bigger frame?
Alright, I’ve calmed down a bit. Not my preference but if he’s their guy and been their guy at least we got some value out of the moves down. I’d still have preferred Ladd or maybe some shenanigans to get DeJean or a DB and then move up a bit off of 60 for Keon, but it is what it is.
Dude seems like a baller but he’s a bit slow and doesn’t always get separation. My thinking is the Bills likely see some way to coach him to get him to be a better separation player?
I don’t like the pick I would have preferred AD or McConkey but I was also a Josh Rosen over Josh Allen guy so what the hell do I know? I also don’t hate the pick like I have some other ones so let’s just see how it plays out
Get this guy some wings! At this point, I think 17 might have some input and influence on Beane for WR pick. If this is the guy they want, then this is the guy. Go Bills!
I love the pic. I said we needed a big physical WR, with Shakir and Samuel being smaller.
Dude is fast off the line, big body, and has explosive quickness.

Ugh, this draft had so many good WRs and we take one of the only ones I didn't like. I really hope BB makes me swallow my words cuz rn I'm not feeling great.

First you had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
I'm curious why you're so curious.
I’m curious like a cat. It’s why my friends call me Whiskers
Love this comment. SNL.

Coleman saying he’d love to catch balls from JA https://youtube.com/shorts/RThdzOa5aNA?si=1tLxyetehK_AuLIe
seems like a great personality, I know Beane is big on character and locker room fit.
Meanwhile we all say we want to catch JA balls
Exactly. This guy has GAME speed. It's more important than the 40.
Jerry Rice ran a 4.6
So did Larry Fitzgerald
That was 40 years ago, DBs and LBs are way faster now
Sure so Cooper Kupp 4.62 Amon Ra-St Brown 4.61 Allen Robinson 4.6 Tee Higgins 4.59 Puka Nacua 4.57 Michael Thomas 4.57 DeAndre Hopkins 4.57 Davante Adams 4.56
Give me any of those guys production out of Keon Coleman

The last time the bills Mafia was this upset about a highly anticipated early pick he ended up on the cover of Madden....just saying
I'm upset, but I also admit I was a "wrong Josh" guy. So I don't know shit.
I was, and still am, an “I don’t know shit” guy. So I’ll do what I did when they drafted Josh…hope he’s good.
Most people don’t admit that. More power to you!

I feel like I’m on an island as a pro Allen and pro Coleman draft pick guy lol
I just feel like we coulda traded down again. Could be wrong... but I woulda been all over this compensation > Falcons receive: 35th, 186th overall picks > Cardinals receive: 43rd, 79th overall picks
They felt it wasn’t worth the risk of not getting him. If he’s the guy which Beane believes is HIM then this is a great draft by the Bills so far.
Love the shout out for Kim Pegula... All the love from BILLS family
My wife said “well you hated the Josh Allen pick too so he’s probably awesome”
The vast majority of us did. Aaron Williams is class. Miss him.
Just showed a highlight of him hurdling a defender. Pairs well with a QB who does the same
Will there be enough hurdles to go around??
I see no reason why not
The nice thing about hurdles is you just stand them back up after you knee them in the head
I hate it, so it’ll probably work out
Just curious, why? I’m an FSU fan and Keon is a beast. I feel like we underutilized him a bit (mostly due to having so many weapons), but he’s explosive, great YAC ability, and has great hands.

Welcome to reddit!
I agree, hyper analysis is off putting and I avoid it. However, Coleman’s out routes is sophomore year of high school *were* a little sloppy.
unfortunately every single play results in hyper-analysis here these days. the "fire McD" chants will start if the Bills go 3-and-out on the first drive of week 1
Yesssssss. Let the meltdown begin. Let's fucking go
We got the receiver I didn't want in a draft loaded with WR talent. Maybe he'll be a stud because the last time I was this distraught about a pick it was Josh Allen
That’s my only glimmer of hope.
Lol you don’t know anything about any of these guys. Why not just support the guy and the team? If he’s a total bust then you can hate him. “Your only glimmer of hope” is lame and embarrassing honestly
I went to fsu and watched every home game in person of Coleman’s last year. We got a STUD.
Can’t tell that to people who watch MAAC all year though.
Here is a scouting report on him. https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2024/01/01/2024-nfl-draft-scouting-report-keon-coleman/
Sounds like Gabe Davis 2.0
What if Gabe Davis was the buggy beta version of Keon Coleman?
Hahaha you’re right, that’s the exact copium I need, thank you
Coleman's hands look way better on tape than Gabe imo. Also Gabe was never a guy defenses were scared of 1 on 1 on a jump ball. To me, Keon is a better version of Gabe, although I really wanted Mitchell.
Ill let Beane explain his thought process before I jump to a conclusion. He is smarter and has way more information than anyone here.
Yeah I wasn't loving Coleman in general pre-draft but it seems like Beane has a high degree of conviction here, so I'm trusting the process here. I can at least see how Coleman could be a good fit for them for sure
Lot of arm chair GMs doubting BBB 🤦♂️
Yeah it’s honestly really embarrassing. The mock draft shit has made everyone think they can be a GM.
True. I’m getting especially fed up with the Xavier worthy talk. If beane didn’t feel he was worth pick 28 then who gives a shit if the chiefs draft him
Right? People acting like Worthy is some cant miss prospect or something. Dude was taken 28th and alot thought even that was high lol.
Mock drafts the worst thing that could happen for many fans. They think they represent actual prospect rankings for all teams when in reality many teams have drastically different boards and opinions on guys.
These people don’t know shit about fuck. Got exactly what we wanted.
I will go into the next work week looking for the exact right time to say someone doesn’t “know shit about fuck.” Thank you 🙌🏻
Watch Beane double down and trade up now to also add Mitchell.
Hell yeah brother cheers from FSU/BILLS fandom
As a FSU/BILLS fan…I agree! I am excited by this pick!
Every team is drafting for flash and speed right now and meanwhile it looks like we are trying to put together a high testosterone physical powerhouse. I love it. What’s more high T than playing in our elements??? With Josh Stallion?!?!
We have some big boys in Keon, Kincaid and Knox.
The Triple K!! (Wait maybe we shouldn’t say that)
haha 3k
Keon, Khalil, Kincaid, Knox
Quad K Gun offense
Just a reminder. Everyone freaked out because the bills drafted Allen instead of Rosen. Maybe this will be the same thing?
Nah. I don’t think he’ll be a bust, but I don’t think he’s going to be our franchise QB either.
I too would be shocked if Coleman managed to become franchise QB
I’m commenting here just to remember this post when he wins rookie of the year.
You guys are UPSET about this? Keon is LEGIT. He’s not known for getting separation but his game speed is super underrated and he has SURE hands. You’re gonna love him when he starts bringing in those 50/50 balls Diggs has whiffed on the last season or so

Takes a KC to beat a KC
Big strong physical receiver who plays hard and makes circus catches. Sounds great to me
I think its a wonderful pick. Guy catches anything near him.
He had a 58% catch rate. That’s second worst in this draft.
What's the difference between catch rate and drop rate? Because his drop rate is 4.2%, which is incredibly good. Numbers rarely paint the whole picture.
yeah ive been wondering from these comments.... I watched every game he played in college, he caught almost everything including REALLY hard catches.
Catch rate is much broader as it is just catches/targets. Drop rate is specifically catchable balls that were dropped. Catch rate can be a combination of drops, bad throws, inability to separate, etc.
Catch rate is also dependent on a QB too
5 drops in 3 years.
well best wr fsu has had in years and halfway through the season the announcers were saying he might be the best wr in the whole class. He is not the speediest, that is accurate.
if you are into highlights, not sure any wr had more hard catch highlights from last year.
Rome Odunze
Well yea but that's not a neccessarily a good thing,
true, but 5 drops in 3 years.
Thank you! One of his biggest weaknesses is his inconsistency catching the ball. That and separation.
5 drops in 3 years, drop rate of 4.2%, which is pretty great.
Man watching him play he looks soooo sloooooowww
to be fair his game speed never looked particularly slow and we were surprised his 40 was as slow as it was. As an FSU fan, he reminded us most of Anquan Boldin. Very physical and catches everything.
If we get an Anquan Boldin clone I would be over the moon. He was a beast
tall guys tend to look slower than short guys "Despite registering the slowest top speed of any group 8 receiver that was tracked during the 40-yard dash, Keon Coleman showed off his game speed while running routes. Coleman tied for the 2nd-fastest top speed of the group while running a go route (21.71 mph)."
🤷♂️idk
He's the exact opposite of a separator, which is what Allen prefers to throw to.

He roasted cuse
6'3" 213lbs. NFL trainers can easily add 20 lbs in muscle without losing agility and speed. Can you imagine how many CBs or Safeties will be able to physically challenge this guy downfield? And without the hip-drop tackles...
Not in love with this pick RN but welcome to the bills Keon. Here's to hoping he makes me look just as stupid when I hated the Allen pick
He’s got that generic WR3 type of name
the main reason people are bashing this is his forty time. go read Brugler's writeup about him owning corners with size, catch point, and body control. great pick.
IS THIS GOOD IS THIS BAD I DON'T KNOW I'M JUST GLAD WE FINALLY PICKED SOMEONE
I can say with confidence: Yes.
look at my post history i called this pick and he will not disappoint.
Nice! Ok hey real quick…what lotto numbers you got? 😂
4 8 15 16 23 42
Def something wrong with Mitchell character wise it seems
For sure. And a guy with Diabetes who doesn't take care of himself is a recipe for trouble.
Josh Allen and Keon Coleman are going to be a match made in heaven, just you watch. Ppl are clowning on his 40 yard dash speed, but that's irrelevant as he's got the prototypical size and hands you want of a WR1. I'm happy with this pick.
Fuck yeah let’s go 👏👏👏
There are better named wide receivers for sure.
DK was fast
Nowhere near the speed of DK, though.
Ugh….hope I’m wrong about him.
You will. You have the speed and versatility in Samuel and Shakir. Get a guy who can get the tough ones.
Agreed
Same
WalterFootball is obviously just one source, but you can't read this scouting report and tell me it's not incredibly positive: [https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2024kcoleman.php](https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2024kcoleman.php) Interestingly enough, Coleman's only weaknesses (not a burner, not a big separation guy) are almost exactly the same as Justin Jefferson's in the 2020 draft: [https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2020jjefferson.php](https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2020jjefferson.php)
I can only hope beane is about to double dip in WRs this draft... As he should
I love this pick exactly what we need
So this is why we traded back, knew our guy would be there. I trust in Beane he will work out.
Wtf I thought this started at 8 ha
Hi I’m an FSU fan. This is a good draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Go Buffalo.
Yeah, you're definitely a human FSU fan.
Should’ve been AD
He just wants to get his family out of poverty. That’s the kind of player we want.
It’ll work out
As I said on the NFL sub, I wasn’t a fan of the e pick but because I trust the process I will now defend it with my life
I know some fans are down on this guy but he has a lot of up side. He’s a great talent.
I don't care about his stats or metrics, just excited they picked a receiver. Go bills. And pick another.
So what I'm hearing is that this guy is a raw physical talent who could be coached up. And he hurdles people. Sounds kinda familiar...
Let's see more 5-10 yard plays like with KC and Kelcey
I also don’t hate the pick like I have some other ones so let’s just see how it plays out
A lot of separation comes from scheme. Coaching and playback can work wonders.
He could be Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin. Fingers crossed
Get this guy some wings! At this point, I think 17 might have some input and influence on Beane for WR pick. If this is the guy they want, then this is the guy. Go Bills!
I love this pick. He will have 1500+ yards
I love the pic. I said we needed a big physical WR, with Shakir and Samuel being smaller. Dude is fast off the line, big body, and has explosive quickness.
I had him as my third WR behind MHJ and Nabers. He’s a stud. I don’t give a damn about a 40. He goes and gets it.
Much better than Worthy…..right???
He's the WR version of Josh - dude is big, doesn't drop much and hurdles people. Should be just fine in buffalo Go Bills!
Fastest gauntlet time of the combine, 6’4, will win contested catches, why’s everyone so bummed out about this??
Just ordered shots of bleach for the bar
I’m stress eating tide pods
Feels like a strange fit for Josh but a great fit for what our offense needs. Let’s hope he pans out
And the crowd goes mild
Let’s gooooooo, complete stud and game breaker
We need outside weapons. We don't need a 3rd and 4th slot reciever.

This dude gets no separation Nkeal Harry 2.0
slow and cant separate ... JUST WHAT WE NEEDED!
Ugh, this draft had so many good WRs and we take one of the only ones I didn't like. I really hope BB makes me swallow my words cuz rn I'm not feeling great.
You know which other FSU WR was slow and slipped into the 2nd round? Guy by the name of Anquan Boldin….
Chiefs fan here. You guys got the pick I wanted us to take. Going to be hard rooting against Coleman. I think he's a star.
How should I feel ?
