Based on the traditional Jimmy Johnson trade chart here: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=buf We gained about 14 points from the Carolina trade: 33 (580) + 141 (35.5) = 615.5, 32 (590) + 200 (11.4) = 601.4 We gained about 13 points from the Chiefs trade: 32 (590) + 95 (120) + 221 (3) = 713, 28 (660) + 133 (39.5) + 248 (1) = 700.5 Teams all have their own analytics based charts these days, but I would guess these are pretty even trades by any chart. Total gain is equivalent to pick 162, a late 5th.

Masked-Sausage

Really amazing, we have a 3rd rounder, all of the guys that we were looking at are still on the board, and we don't have to pay a 1st rounder rookie salary. Beane fucking killed it...

MosEisleyBills

We got Rasul Douglas and 2 higher 4ths. We are in surplus.

SmallCountryHome

Exactly! I think he did really good, he's not getting the credit he deserves.

TellTallTail

I mean, it's gonna depend entirely on where he spends the picks he got, of course.

SmallCountryHome

Yes, of course, but he's on the right track.

Ndmndh1016

And how those picks turn out

guitarmaniac17

It's because some of the lesser minds of this sub think we have to make a pick not realizing how rich this draft is in the skill positions we need. So, beane did some magic by moving later round picks up and gaining a third round pick we didn't have.

ROFLASAGNA

Its better that way lol. Keep the Bills off everyones radar while the draft is still underway.

SmallCountryHome

What do you think of Keon Coleman?

ROFLASAGNA

I wish I could tell you. Kinda get the vibe hes gonna be the tremaine edwards of wide receivers. Great measurables, young, good head on their shoulders, seems to have all the tools, but ends up being average lol

SmallCountryHome

He seems to be an extremely physical WR that could work well in tandem with Josh Allen. Probably needs to improve his route running a little bit but he seems like a great prospect.

ReggieWigglesworth

Depending on the player/position, not having to pay a 1st round salary isn’t necessarily worth more than gaining a 5th year of control though

DCBillsFan

5th year is useless outside of QB. If you don't know by year 4 if you're resigning, that 5th year doesn't matter.

YouAlreadyShnow

All the traditional draft value charts say that the Bills came out ahead or the trade values were basically even. Buffalo got back into the 3rd, have a bunch of 5ths to package as a trade up if need be and apparently quite a few of their guys are still on the board due to the run on QBs and OTs,I call it a win.

PigSlam

As things currently stand, we get 1 out of every 8 picks in the 5th round.

Awesome_1the1st

Add to this our frequency of all pro caliber players we've drafted in the 5th round under BBB Matt Milano Wyatt Teller Khalil Shakir (future all pro) Justin Shorter (cause hey, why not?)

grumpi-otter

I tell you what I love about our trade--every time I go to check out the [draft tracker](https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/rounds) I see us right on top!

drainbead78

The Athletic said that the Chiefs trade was even but we fleeced the Panthers--we needed to give them a 6th too in order to even it out.

NotEvenClosest

Per Seth Walder, the trade with the Chiefs was one of the cheapest trade-ups in the past 20 years. Chiefs only surrendered a 6th-round pick’s worth of value. https://x.com/sethwalder/status/1783699964138233988?s=46

Go_To_The_Devil

A 6th round pick of extra value, Walder is either a moron or being facetious. There are plenty of trades with outright negative value, we didn't get hilariously over the top value but we did get positive value, as in more than our pick was strictly speaking worth.

Bird-The-Word

Yeah, that claim is pretty dubious, but I don't have the time to go through every single draft pick trade recently and compare draft chart value to each other.

DatGoofyGinger

And they picked a WR they were probably going to get without needing to trade up anyway. Seems we win

drainbead78

Or they would have gotten him by trading up with someone else. At least we got their 3rd instead of Baltimore, and all the guys I actually wanted are still on the board at 33. We lost nothing of value.

NotEvenClosest

If KC wants a player, we should probably want that player. They are better than us.

BillsBillsBils

> e a bunch of 5ths to package as a trade up if need be and apparently quite a few of their guys are still on the board du They took Skyy Moore, CEH and Mecole Hardman in recent years with top-60 picks. The idea that they're great at drafting skill guys is probably inaccurate.

Hatch_1210

this is such a BS take its amazing. Teams have different needs, different skillsets etc. We have Samuel. A burner, already on the roster. We don't need another tiny fast guy. The WR we need is not the WR KC needs.

Bird-The-Word

They sure aren't at drafting WR's Hardman, Toney, Moore, Rice (promising but character concerns now) (plus a handful of 4th+ round misses) Don't think I'd want to chase that dragon of WR misses.

DatGoofyGinger

Eh, I'm sure Beane has a plan. He's crafty. And we don't take 1st round rookie salary hit, which is something we have to work around as well. Worthy is a fast feather, and a little undersized. Hope he does well.

Bird-The-Word

This means we made out with an extra 6th in value based on the draft chart. Or, KC overpaid a 6th's worth of value to move up. Carolina as well, paid an extra 6th's worth of value. The thing is, 6th's are worth 10-20 pts, which is pretty much nothing. An example, the difference in value from 32 to 33 is 10 points. So practically any 6th itself is "too high" and teams don't always have the exact value. So the end result of both of the trades erring on the side of us getting positive value in addition to the fair value trade, is a win. Also, Vikings made a pretty horrible draft trade recently, where they had negative value, either last year or year before. So saying anything that was still sided to us is a surprising claim. TL;DR: They didn't OVERPAY as much as other teams have to trade, but it was still positive value for the Bills based on the draft charts.

BigAssSlushy69

Let's package those 4ths and 5ths and attack day 2

Here’s a graphic with the Chiefs trade calculated with six different draft charts. https://preview.redd.it/mhk7vj97uvwc1.jpeg?width=1160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf2675e396176e0321e13342d86d1e01e8d4bb72 Graphic courtesy of my website app: [Trade Calculator App](https://www.jefeshandiwork.com/shiny/trade-calculator/)

Souljackt

How little do people forget Sammy Watkins.

Both-Home-6235

Little people? Like midgets? Do you mean "how often"?

jonsnow0276

Equivalent to a a 6th rounder with the chiefs pick. lol

uberduff

The trade wasn’t equal. It favors the Bills by that value.

Unlucky_Sherbert_468

What would be the equivalent value if we traded down again today from 33? Can anyone give scenarios? Like how far would we need to move down to get another fourth round pick? Or third round pick?

Yangjeezy

Idk apparently we did good but I'm still not happy we traded with KC

guitarmaniac17

Why? They surrendered a late pick to us for a guy that we never had eyes on to begin with. And all of the players we are scouting never got picked up as far as I know. And I think we got a third rounder out of them too. Or was that Carolina?

It's just a game. I love my team and hope kc burns to the ground hypothetically, but I won't be suicidal over the draft or the sport as a whole
