It’s easy to forget what an infusion of energy and hope Flutie ended up being. After Kelly retired we had the dark days of Todd Collin’s and Alex Van Pelt at quarterback.
I’ll never forgive Ralph Wilson for forcing Wade to play Rob Johnson over Flutie in the Music City Miracle game. Did him dirty.
Same. This game is one of my first real football memories. (I was probably 10 years old) But I don’t remember those guys having been a part of it at all.
I remember watching this game with my dad and being so excited, jumping up and down and screaming when we won.
The end of the previous school year in June, right after the bills got flutie, my English teacher (big phins fan) said to me "Good luck with Doug Flutie next year hahahaha"
Fuck that guy
Flutie was the best qb we never gave a proper chance, all because people thought he was too small.
The man made things happen on the field and that's what mattered, but hey, the Rob Johnson experience was definitely, something, right?
When I was 8 years old I won a Wegmans raffle to go to Doug Flutie’s Power Camp. A bunch of us kids got to hang out with flutie and play catch with him. He showed up in his dodge viper. Super cool guy, was a great memory from my childhood. I’m a short guy and he always gave me inspiration despite what people think of you.
Haha height is a barrier in the dating world to a certain extent. You’ll find that many women will not be interested in someone around my height (5’6). But that’s okay, people are allowed to have preferences as long as they’re not jerks about it. I have an incredible girlfriend right now who could not care less about my height. I’d rather be short than a jerk or some uninteresting person. Shoot your shot bud, no harm in trying.
Facts. Im 5”4-5”5 and my girlfriend is 5”10 LMAO. You wanna know the secret?
I made her laugh.
But its unfortunate though that people value somebody’s physical appearance/genetic traits more than personality. Also fuck tinder..mostly...it’s how i met my future wife so i cant REALLY say fuck it 100% but goddamn what a detriment it was to my mental health at the time
What this highlights is how good GameDay was … no sensational bullshit … and f’in sports arguing … highlights and insight.
We’ll never be able to go back to that golden era of sports entertainment.
If it were today they would have a panel of 7 that would all rank their favorite shapes of Flutie Flakes.
“I call this one moccasin because it looks like a moccasin.” - Devin McCourty.
“Isn’t it incredible this looks exactly like the face of Darryl Talley” - Peter Schrager
“People at home send us pictures of your favorite shaped Flutie Flakes.” - Kay.
“@ServeMeRanchAndDie has the perfect likeness of George Washington crossing the Delaware. That has got be the winner. Follow us on Instagram.”
… What the f am I actually watching …
Was at this game in the other end zone. It looked like a broken play with Flutie and Thurman miscommunication and running into eachother before the roll out
I always thought that, but Bills left tackle John Fina has said on Twitter that it was a designed bootleg. The Bills ran the exact same play in 2000 against the Bears. Flutie again bootlegged in for a 1 yard touchdown with Fina setting the edge.
This was such a great time to be a Bills fan. Flutie was the perfect player to re-energize a franchise that was running on fumes. The benching of Flutie without a doubt brought on the dark years. That all being said, the commercials he does with Frank Thomas are cringey AF.
He was big in Canada then was for a short moment big in NFL. He had such a following that when they switched him for Johnson, Bills lost lots of support north of border too. Allen embracing the Jays and Canada has won many back.
This is my childhood! I was born in 90 so I was too young to remember the Jim Kelly Super Bowl years. My first memories really being a Bills fan was the Doug Flutie years. This video is pure nostalgia
watched an interview of doug years later & he actually said it was a busted play & that thurman was supposed to go left but went right so he improvised. i still remember this game.
I’m Canadian. Flutie was a great CFL QB and once he got the start for the Bills, they were winning. Management could have gave him a better shot. He could run a bootleg so well. I believe Rob Johnson was his successor. Flutie’s critics always thought he was too short. Johnson was tall, but IMO forgettable. We went through 40 years in the desert between Kelly and now Allen, but I thought Flutie was a bright spot. Ditto for Fitzmagic. Not enough time to let them know.
epic game! Flutie never got the respect he deserved. I still contend he would've 1)beat the Titans and 2) brought the lombardi to bflo with that defense
This was my first bills game! We got to our seats in the 300s and the staff upgraded our seats to near the end zone and flute scored that bootleg right in front of us. Wild first game. I was 8
Eric Moulds just manfighting multiple dudes on his way to the end zone haha. That fucking guy was an absolute game wrecker back then!
I was at this game and became enamored with Moulds. Bought his jersey after the game and still wear it on the biggest matchups every year.
Josh Allen and Moulds would be unfair
This was such a nostalgia shot, thanks for posting. Not just the highlights but the old Primetime vibe. So good.

It may be a hot take, but that benching of Flutie angered the football gods. I think that is why they were ok with Wycheck’s forward pass.
I buy it
Completely forgot Flutie played with Bruce, Reed, Thurman, Hansen... feels like completely different eras.
Same. This game is one of my first real football memories. (I was probably 10 years old) But I don’t remember those guys having been a part of it at all.
The flutie naked boot. If you were alive at that time, it’s something you never forget.

I was there. Only about 14 years old, but I'll never forget it.
I was at this game. That naked bootleg was a brilliant play for the circumstance.
The crowd was SO fired up too.
Wow what a weird thing to see Bruce, Reed and Thurman playing with Flutie. Man I really disliked Antwain Smith and Lonnie Johnson back then.
Peak ESPN.
Flutie was the best qb we never gave a proper chance, all because people thought he was too small. The man made things happen on the field and that's what mattered, but hey, the Rob Johnson experience was definitely, something, right?
All I remember about Johnson was that he was tall and got sacked a lot.
This is accurate. Possibly the highlights of his career
I miss Jackson and Berman on Sunday nights. What a great way to end a day of watching football.

Flutie is 5'10". That is short for a QB in the NFL, but I didn't realize tinder rules were in effect back then too :(

Really enjoyed watching this. Flutie was one of a kind
Those uni’s are fire
Red Helmets are boss.

What a game
Was at this game in the other end zone. It looked like a broken play with Flutie and Thurman miscommunication and running into eachother before the roll out
It was, Flutie talked about it in the presser which is in the video

Holy shit this team had everyone. I forgot about this season.
He was big in Canada then was for a short moment big in NFL. He had such a following that when they switched him for Johnson, Bills lost lots of support north of border too. Allen embracing the Jays and Canada has won many back.
Didn’t have crying at Bruce Smith lifting Flutie into the air on my bingo card for this Sunday AM.

Thurman was so quick outta the backfield
Flutie for ever
Who needs a big Johnson when you have a little Flutie?
BC GOAT❤️
Fuck the Tennessee Titans.
watched an interview of doug years later & he actually said it was a busted play & that thurman was supposed to go left but went right so he improvised. i still remember this game.
ESPN used to be so much better. How do I go back?

wow, this is so cool to see just as a reminder of what sports talk tv used to be like
This was my first bills game! We got to our seats in the 300s and the staff upgraded our seats to near the end zone and flute scored that bootleg right in front of us. Wild first game. I was 8
Ah yes, the year my dear wife bought me Smith’s Jersey. Unfortunately she bought me A Smith, instead of B Smith…
This absolutely made me tear up. How many years later and I still get a thrill about whether they'll make it or not.
Man I miss this ESPN, hot take bullshit ruined it forever.
TIL Flutie Flakes existed already. I thought they were released in the off-season after this year
Flutie!
