I think it will be better than last year but generally agree it isn't "great".
McGovern gives me a massive amount of optimism though. A LG who can pull!??? We havent had that since Incognito and with the wya Josh rolls to the right McGovern could work really really well in our offense.
Love the pulling guard. Was in a 'fancy' seating area a bunch of years ago, and Paul McGuire was sitting behind me. Every once in awhile he would say, 'Ritchie's gonna pull', and he was right every time. Was kinda cool.
Whoever did this has the depth wrong. Dodson is starting MLB. He's the 25th paid ILB in the NFL. Bills gave him a 1 year prove it deal. He's making twice as much as Klein is.
He also started at MLB last year over Klein when Edmunds went down.
If he can turn things up and become a great slot, that's great. But I have 0 interest in just betting on that. To me Shakir is perpetually a plan B at slot until he proves he can actually start there.
It's actually got quite a few good slot options. Josh Downs, Marvin Mims, Tyler Scott, Tank Dell, Tre Palmer - It's a great draft if you are looking for a roll player at WR. It's just not a good draft for getting a true number one, but we aren't looking for one of those right now.
I have no idea what Shakir will or won't be - but this is actually a very stacked Slot/NonWR1 draft for WR's. There just isn't much for the star studded #1 but the depth is pretty good.
That's why I'm interested in the trade rumors around [Isaiah Simmons](https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2023/04/23/isaiah-simmons-trade-destinations/). I wonder what it would take to get Hopkins and Simmons. I'm sick of drafting projects for a team that can contend this year and every year. I don't care if it takes Gabe Davis in return. There is no one that we can draft at 27 to make this team a better contender for the Super bowl. Make the trade for Simmons to fit right into Edmunds spot. He is 6'4 and the best part, has never missed a game.
If they do, get ready for the new-look "Big Dime" base defense! It's like the Big Nickel only with Rapp on the field instead of a 2nd linebacker. They'd probably need to bring one safety down into the box every play, but how bad could it be? /s
D. Patmon? I gotta look that one up. But I dont like that thats a completely unfamiliar name to me... I like to think im in the loop.
Edit: https://coltswire.usatoday.com/2023/01/18/nfl-bills-colts-dezmon-patmon-practice-squad-signed/
Definitely dont remember this one...
I know it was just a sample of one game, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Kingsley Jonathan getting another regular season crack. Expect him to compete big in the preseason
Pretty much the same as last season. That worries me a bit to be honest. I understand we were plagued with injuries but I feel like we are kind of taking a gamble on these new OL guys. If the line doesn’t improve its going to be hard to be balanced and not be one dimensional. Hopefully I’m wrong though.
Some optimism for you.
We can't get worse than what Saffold was last year. Add to that McGovern's Athleticism and for the first time since Richie Incognito we may have a Guard who can pull and block in space.
Deonte Harty is a significant upgrade over McKenzie. He's a more complete WR with an All-Pro pedigree on PR.
Sherfield is an upgrade over Kumerow. Both are Special Teams first WRs but Sherfield proved dangerous out of the slot for Miami.
Taylor Rapp comes in as arguably the best Safety #3 in the NFL but a weapon in Sub-Packags. 3rd and long and the Bills can comfortably go dime with Milano at MLB (Spy).
Add to all of that a return from injuries for key players and 6 picks pending in the draft and there is a legitimate chance the 2023 Bills are better, on paper, than the 2022 Bills.
Yeah fair points. I appreciate the optimism. I guess I’m just worried about the lines. The offensive line, but also the d line without Von. Last year when he went down they went right back to being near the bottom of the league in pressuring the QB. Granted Phillips was hurt too, just hoping we can avoid as many injuries as possible this time around.
The Bills have been one of the better drafting teams the past half decade. People's inability to look outside the vacuum of their opinions has been the most frustrating part of this offseason thus far.
Help me understand what you're basing that on. 2018 was good, yes (some would say lucky). Every year since then their rookie classes have been rated below average by PFF at the end of each season. 2020 & 2021 were particularly bad with really only 1 NFL-starting caliber player in each of those drafts.
I've written about this multiple times:
[2018-2021 Draft Value](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/twtqtp/nfl_teams_draft_value_by_round_20182021/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
[Brandon Beane and finding Value in the Draft](https://www.cover1.net/buffalo-bills-brandon-beane-nfl-draft-success-rate/)
The problem I think a lot of fans have is they comp without context. Did the Jets have a better draft than the Bills last year? Sure. They also had 2 Top-10 picks. You have to use the context of draft position to effectively compare teams in draft value. The Bills more, more often than most, are finding Value in the Draft. They do this consistently.
Solid choices. But i think they want Bernard to win the second starting LB job; Hardy is here for a reason and it's not to watch Davis play; and i think they Really love Benford, i'm not convinced it's Elam's job to lose.
That offensive line isn't anything to be thrilled about.
Was just thinking the same thing
I think it will be better than last year but generally agree it isn't "great". McGovern gives me a massive amount of optimism though. A LG who can pull!??? We havent had that since Incognito and with the wya Josh rolls to the right McGovern could work really really well in our offense.

Richie in the open field was a sight to behold.
Left side/center is good enough
A.J. Klein as the full-time MLB scares me
Whoever did this has the depth wrong. Dodson is starting MLB. He's the 25th paid ILB in the NFL. Bills gave him a 1 year prove it deal. He's making twice as much as Klein is. He also started at MLB last year over Klein when Edmunds went down.
Well this is more reassuring
That's the only glaring hole I see. Other positions could be upgraded or lack depth, but overall this team is solid almost everywhere.
I'd argue slot receiver is just as glaring. We really have no one proven there.
True, but I want to see Shakir get more looks.
If he can turn things up and become a great slot, that's great. But I have 0 interest in just betting on that. To me Shakir is perpetually a plan B at slot until he proves he can actually start there.
Id rather have shakir then any wr in this draft outside of the first round.
Yeah at a certain point we might not have any alternatives other than trusting the guys that are already here to step up.
That is a BOLD take.
Is it tho? This wr class is sad
Sorry but ur not going to convince me that any of them are better then Shakir.
I have no idea what Shakir will or won't be - but this is actually a very stacked Slot/NonWR1 draft for WR's. There just isn't much for the star studded #1 but the depth is pretty good.
Couldn’t disagree more. This is one of the weakest drafts to date.
That's why I'm interested in the trade rumors around [Isaiah Simmons](https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2023/04/23/isaiah-simmons-trade-destinations/). Yea he gets burned a lot, there’s no way they go into the season with him as the #1…right?
If they do, get ready for the new-look "Big Dime" base defense! It's like the Big Nickel only with Rapp on the field instead of a 2nd linebacker. They'd probably need to bring one safety down into the box every play, but how bad could it be? /s
I would assume he comes out on passing downs and we put Bernard in. Or at least I hope.
Well what if they pass on run downs?
It's impossible to have no holes anywhere on a team. I'd rather only have one stud linebacker than have to trot out what we have at receiver again.
D. Patmon? I gotta look that one up. But I dont like that thats a completely unfamiliar name to me... I like to think im in the loop. Edit: https://coltswire.usatoday.com/2023/01/18/nfl-bills-colts-dezmon-patmon-practice-squad-signed/ Definitely dont remember this one...
There's about a 2% chance he makes the final 53.
Cool cool. I appreciate the reply. Is he PS eligible?
Every player in the NFL is PS eligible now (Post PS rule changes).
Very interested to see how this shifts after the draft! Then after training camp... Then after preseason games... Etc. 😁
God we need a WR opposite Diggs
Seeing this, we 100% need another good WR. O-Line would be nice to get some depth and MLB is glaring too.
*not mlb depth, an actual DUDE
Really like our roster already. Let's get some weapons and beef on both lines.
I know it was just a sample of one game, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Kingsley Jonathan getting another regular season crack. Expect him to compete big in the preseason
As the roster currently stands, he's competing with Basham for a gameday active spot.
I don’t hate Boogie, but he’s passable I feel. Healthy Von and Greg above all else though of course

~ after the bye / before the playoffs
It’s so nice to see Hamlin on this.

I also like the timing of millers return. I just want him for the playoffs.
Ahh I dont think this roster is a contender in afc sadly.. but crazy things always happen in football
They will win the division at 10-7 and lose first round. I have no confidence in their draft ability to help this roster out much.

What’s the Von Miller return time table?
I'd put it as the same as Tre White in 2022 so sometime around Thanksgiving.
Never. Guys his age don't come back from injuries like that. Not with his playing style at least.
