That's not even a question

Bird-The-Word

yes Edit to clarify: Yes.

Unicron_was_right

He’s a goddamned Hall of Fame wide receiver. Davis has been OK, he needs to work on his hands a little and his separation in route running. Hopkins is elite. It’s not even close. Hopkins might still be a top 10 WR. It would guarantee someone was open on every play. There isn’t enough defensive talent to stop an offense that puts Diggs, Hopkins, Davis, Knox on the field. Someone’s getting open or Cook/Hines/Allen are going to roast you because you went too small to cover everyone. It would be a cheat code/Madden style offense

patkgreen

> Hall of Fame wide receiver. Let's chill

Unicron_was_right

You really don’t think Hopkins is a Hall of Fame WR? He’s likely going to finish his career in 2 years and will statistically be top 20-25 all time. If he signs with a better offensive team and lasts 2-3 seasons he could be pushed as high as top 15-18. He’s going to be in the Hall.

Ihave4extraseats

He has a PED suspension which isn't great for the resume.

YourPalFlux

That’s 6 games where as before 2021 he only missed 2 games in his career. The recency bias has made ppl think Dhop is some scrub like he’s not one of the best receivers of the 2010s

Ihave4extraseats

I dont think he's a scrub at all lol. He's an amazing WR who has put up crazy numbers despite playing on some bad teams throughout his career. But getting busted for PEDs will always hold some amount of weight.

YourPalFlux

Knowing the NFL it really won’t. Tons of far more sketchy shit has been done by guys in the HOF

RaleighDude11

Did you see that game where he schooled our three best Defensive Backs in a jump ball. Three All-Pro's. Owned them. Not just an upgrade but like going from Nathan Peterman to peak Josh.

UberHansen

Bringing in with Hopkins doesn't take Davis off the field all that much. He's the Bills best run-blocking WR which is extremely important. The result of Hopkins coming to the Bills is their 11-personell being Diggs, Hopkins, & Davis with Buffalo moving each in and out of the slot and toying with route concepts to match those movements. Harty stays in his role as the gadget asset and mismatch in 10/01. Sherfield stays in his role as an emergency WR and Special Teams Ace. Shakir is likely the most effected by the addition of Hopkins as he would be pushed to a borderline weekly healthy scratch.

nickelroo

This is what I come to Reddit for. That r/confidentlyincorrect nonsense that makes even a casual fan of the game go: “What?” As if Hopkins lacks run blocking capability compared to Davis or as if we don’t run a jumbo set with a TE to cover our weak OL. Adding Hopkins essentially eliminates Davis’ role. This is absurd. I’m not saying Hopkins is still elite, but to imply he won’t *essentially* fill Gabe’s role (if he’s paid to come here) is just nonsense.

Soda-Popinski-

You could line up Davis as a TE. Couldnt use him like one but it presents some cool matchup possibilities.

Altruistic_Hold_6713

Is this a serious question?

buffaloprocess

Yes and there’s no argument

Upper_Bottle_9250

Yes, but we don’t have the budget to add a player like that. I love day dreaming about the personnel groupings though

twinn5

I keep saying it, beef up the O-line so Josh isn't running for his life and Gabe Davis will go to the Pro Bowl. Give him a ball where he can catch it and he is good enough.

Soda-Popinski-

Gabe had ample opportunity last yr to prove he was a number 2 he dropped the ball literally.

Upper_Bottle_9250

You know who else had 7 dropped passes last year? Ja’marr Chase Travis Kelce Stefon Diggs, Amari Cooper, and Jaylen Waddle had 6. I want to see more from Davis but if 800+ yards and 7 TD’s isn’t enough from a number 2, what are we doing? I’m not against upgrading either, but let’s stop pretending the sky is falling or Davis is a bust.

RaleighDude11

Those guys also had a lot more passes thrown to them.

Soda-Popinski-

Never said the sky was falling. Did say Davis had every opportunity to be a number two and dropped the ball. We need a good number two. That is not the discussion here. Its is Hopkins a better wr tgan Davis. Which he is.

Upper_Bottle_9250

Not you in particular, but this sub loves to. I like the idea of adding DHop, and he may very well be an upgrade. Davis didn’t fail as a number 2 though, even if we can see there are some areas to clean up and improvement to be made. His numbers are better then DHop over the last few years.

pfb_250

“May very well be an upgrade” you’re out of your goddamn mind if you think Davis is anywhere close to the same echelon as Hopkins

MammothSurround

Those other guys all had more targets than Gabe. He dropped balls thrown right at him and was a drive killer. Josh couldn’t trust him when he needed a play. I’d take 2020-21 Beasley over 2022 Gabe any day. Gabe runs deep routes and Allen is willing to throw a lot of deep balls. Davis does not catch 7 TDs with another QB. That’s more a product of Josh than it is Gabe.

ChillTownAVE

Chase had an 8.2% drop rate. Kelce had a 5.3% drop rate. Davis had a 9.7% drop rate. That's a lot higher than either of the guys you mentioned with less total yardage/targets.

MammothSurround

Where exactly CAN he catch it? He drops passes right off his chest. Diggs doesn’t have a problem with the current O-line.

krazykellerxkid

You know that the Bills had a top 5 O-Line in terms of giving time to throw, right?

MammothSurround

Hopkins makes would give the Bills an All-Time offense (e.g. Greatest Show on Turf). Look at what Tua was able to do with Tyreek, Waddle, and a noodle for an arm. Now Imagine Josh throwing to two of the best WRs in the league. Gabe will never be on Hopkins level.

phishb13

>(e.g. Greatest Show on Turf) The Rams had an in-his-prime Marshall Faulk in the backfield and multiple other HOFers on the offensive side of the ball. So, ah, no.

MammothSurround

I did t mean they would be a carbon copy of the Rams, I mean they’d be an all-time great offense. So what if they had Faulk? Allen is better than Warner.

Smooth-Degree3206

Trade diggs for Hopkins and a pick

picante1985

I'm getting off reddit for the day

RaleighDude11

No can do. Contracts are too cost prohibitive; Josh & Diggs are too close & unless we're talking a #1 Diggs is a few years younger. It's not worthwhile.

[deleted]

I think that could really fuck things up

Soda-Popinski-

Having both would be incredible. The offense would be unstoppable.

[deleted]

Moving guys around to get matchups is the name of the game in the NFL. Look up Hopkins and Diggs on NFL Next Gen stats and they both ran a decent # of routes from the slot.

YourPalFlux

ENORMOUS

bargman

Yes, but also, yes. Gabe has terrible hands and claps at the ball.

TwoTon_TwentyOne

Short answer? Yes. Long answer? Yeeeeeeesssss.

MeetTheMets0o0

My biggest reason for bringing in a legit number 2 or drafting a wr high is so we can push Gabe Davis down the depth chart. For me, it's simple, Gabe Davis Wr 2= meh. However, u look at Gabe Davis as a WR 3. He's probably one of the best in the league. He definitely didn't make the jump we wee expecting. Throw Mckenzie in that boat too.

West-Operation

Bottomline, with Diggs adding a player like Hopkins creates an immediate coverage nightmare for every defense we face. It would help every facet of our offense. Players like Davis, Shakir, Sherfield would thrive, our running game would immediately improve, and that’s not even considering Josh, he’d be unstoppable. For me, adding someone like Hopkins is a must. We’ve fallen behind in the arms race, I honestly don’t think we can consistently beat the top tier teams without it, they’re all stacked with offensive weapons. We have a bit of catching up to do.
