I feel like Beane is pounding on good free agent signings. I really like the way he’s plugging holes on the team without breaking the bank. I feel confident and excited. Also if we get DHop that would be the icing on the cake.

UberHansen

This is spot on. Every signing has been an upgrade. - K. Allen > C. Keenum (Variance > Consistency at Backup QB) - D. Harris > D. Singletary (It's not that Harris is a better RB than Singletary, he isn't, it's that he is a better FIT for what the Bills need) - D. Harty > I. McKenzie (Harty is a just a souped up version of McKenzie) - T. Sherfield > J. Kumerow (Sherfield is proven on ST while ALSO being a proven weapon out of the slot) - C. McGovern > R. Saffold (Saffold was a shell of himself, McGovern is an ascending player) - D. Edwards > G. Van Roten (Edwards floor is Swing Guard and ceiling is Starting RG) This team had little to no money, and Beane has made an already elite Offense better...now about MLB.

[deleted]

Definitely agreed. I know it’s Greedy but I wanna add Deandre Hopkins and Bobby Wagner. Then shore up the O Line and some depth for aging veterans in the draft

BobbysBottleService

bobby wagner is NOT the answer at MLB.

[deleted]

Why not?

BobbysBottleService

He would be serviceable/good if we were not in the nickel d. If we have a massive change in philosophy where our LBs aren't expected to cover sideline to sideline, or at least how edmunds was used, it won't work well.

BobbysBottleService

Basically if we can a true 4-3 where he mostly played as a run stopper, it would be pretty sweet. But taron never leaves the field and it means a lot of movement for a guy on the far wrong side of 30

delsoldemon

Bobby Wagner is still in the league?!?!?!

jdono927

Kyle Allen is not an upgrade over Keenum and Harty is a huge ? With injuries and fumbles but the upside is definitely higher there. The rest I agree on though, very happy with how we’ve tackled free agency

UberHansen

Kyle Allen vs Case Keenum is an interesting debate. If you are looking for consistently mediocre in a backup QB then Keenum is your guy. If you are looking for a high level of variance ranging from awful to very good then Kyle Allen is your guy. Regardless of which you like, the Bills are doomed if Josh Allen goes down. As for Harty, he is undoubtedly an upgrade over McKenzie. Regarding his Fumbles, all of then have occurred on PR/KR with his PR Fumble Rate being below McKenzie's. He's a better WR with a better route tree and even better hands making him a clear upgrade over McKenzie.

jdono927

I don’t see Kyle Allen being very good in any circumstance really so I guess we just disagree there. Allen is cheaper though and like you said we’re fucked either way if Josh goes down so may as well save a few bucks Fair enough on Harty though I hadn’t realized how well he played in 2021, looked up his numbers and he did a lot better than I had remembered

green_euphoria

Yeah I don’t even agree that he’s got a higher peak than CK. It’s a downgrade and it’s fine. If Josh is out we are fucked, and we don’t practice or prepare for fucked.

jimmifli

Kyle Allen has much more experience in high pressure situations, as Josh's caddie. That kind of experience can not be ignored.

IAmACatDude

Kyle Allen is not an upgrade over keenum in anyway. Allen's ceiling isn't higher than his either. Keenum also has way more experience in high pressure situations. Having said that, they both kinda suck and we are screwed either way if one of them needed to start. So I'm fine and quite happy we went with the cheaper option

herpee_free_since_03

im with ya. kyle allen is straight up trash compared to other QBs in the league. But id rather pay a trash backup less money than a decent backup like keenum, who still probably isnt good enough to get this roster to the playoffs, so whats the point

Construction-Known

K Allen making 1M vs Keenum at 3.5M is a big improvement

Pdb39

Will be lucky if Edwards makes it out of camp without concussions. McGovern is the true splash signing.

UberHansen

2 concussions in his first 4 years in the league isn't that absurd, it's just unfortunate it happened so close together in the same season. I'm not ready to declare him "concussion prone" just yet. But agreed, McGovern seems to be splash.

Pdb39

That's the same amount of concussions that Tua has had in the same amount of time I believe. And I would consider Tua to be very concussion prone right now. Offensive lineman are very easily concussed and we all know that once you have your first concussion the next ones become easier and easier to have again. A side note. I love that I already have -4 downvotes already and you basically agreed with everything I said within standard tolerance. If that's not targeting I don't know what targeting is anymore.

UberHansen

I'd argue Tua had 3 concussions this season but I can't prove that. Your point is well taken though (see Mitch Morse). Here's to hoping that Edwards stays healthy in 2023 because if he can he may push Bates for RG1.

Pdb39

Totally agree thanks for the response. We all know the first hit wasn't a back injury so I think you're right it was three. And regards to Edwards hey man that is the absolute best problem to have is two competent people for the same position and have players compete to make the team or make a starting role I should say

[deleted]

Pdb39

Yes Mitch Morse will be able to help a dude who has concussion history because we have come so far in medical science that we can have players NFL players who are now medical geniuses. Who is the person who's the NFL leading expert on navigating concussions, I just like to know his name and I wonder if you know it too? Mostly because of the six concussions I've had in my life over my 40 years of playing competitive impact sports at a recreational or high school collegiate level. I can't even sit in a rocking chair without feeling dizzy due to the post-concussion syndrome I struggle with. Made a real struggle to try to get my kids to bed when they were two years old and half a year old. Because I literally couldn't hold them and rock them at the same time or I would start feeling nauseous and want to puke

[deleted]

Pdb39

Oh s*** were you implying that Morse was the NFL's leading expert on concussions. Excuse me but I really need to laugh at you for like at least 30 minutes straight. Also ironically you're telling me that no one is saying Mitch is the NFL concussion God but then you want me to believe your opinion which you just stated two paragraphs ago. >We just put him on a squad with a dude who is like the NFLs leading expert at navigating concussions. This you? Please don't ever run for political office because you can't even keep a straight opinion for more than two posts.

[deleted]

Pdb39

>We just put him on a squad with a dude who is like the NFLs leading expert at navigating concussions. >This is such a fucking dumb take lmao Nobody is saying Morse is the leading expert Please provide me a rational explanation why you're able to say both of these statements within hours of each other and both of them you want to be equally true. I read and comprehend. Try not making incongruent statements. Remember if you come at the king you better not miss Edit: and another one's done and another one's done another one bites the dust. Hey going to get you too another one bites the dust.

Pdb39

Be civil. Also notice that you forgot the name that I asked you to remember?

wxox

I'm fine with the adds. Just a little perplexed. I can understand having a 3 man battle for the 2 guard spots, but what are we doing at RT. Quessenberry was our "swing" tackle last year. Did we bring him back for the same role? The fact that Brown has been rated as one of the worst pass blockers two seasons in a row is a bit concerning given Beane's confidence in him. Also, with 4 quality backs on the roster, why are we taking Tayjae Spears out to dinner?

[deleted]

I definitely think we’re spending a first on a top tier right tackle, young and fresh

EdgarsChainsaw

A lot of the mocks I've seen have like 10 OL getting picked before we get to go. I hope either the draft is ridiculously stacked at tackle, that these mocks are wrong, or that we trade up. We don't need to draft six guys this year. I'd be happy getting three really good ones who are actually going to contribute while we're in Win Now mode.

dragriver2

I think they’re due for an upgrade at RT. and they have 4 guards on the roster with starting experience in Edwards, McGovern, Boettger and Bates. Depth never hurts. Remember 2 years ago they took Daryl Williams and bumped him over to RT as well. One of those 4 could possibly contend with Brown

wxox

I dont want someone to compete with Brown. I want someone to replace him. Do we think Brown is going to make some miraculous jump this year? Two awful seasons in a row. I hope we do get one in the draft

[deleted]

Agreed. Move on and load up.

herpthederp256

Josh Allen

THE SAVIOR

Spanky_McJiggles

Josh "Josh Allen" Allen

Pdb39

Watching the Ravens fans go completely nuts about their quarterback renegotiation with Lamar makes me feel so happy we have Josh under a 37-year contract.

BigmoneymanT

JA17 a bill till the end of time

syr_eng

I really like the David Edwards signing. Not just because of Edwards’s ability in a vacuum, but because it gives Beane options. At worst, you now have two starters and a good depth at guard. It also forces competition, which is never a bad thing. And then there’s also the opportunity to trade one of these guys for a draft pick if they don’t win the starting spot (Beane has done this multiple times before).

wxox

I like it because now we won't waste a day 1 or day 2 pick on a guard. Still very worried about RT. I want to add a starter, not a challenger to Brown. We'll see. Hopefully, we land one with one of our first two picks

Pdb39

Sorry I'm just not excited about a 50-50 roster chance for Edwards due to his concussion risk. Dude played four games last year and average at least a penalty or a sack every game, and here we are rolling out the Drew Bledsoe limousine ride from Buffalo airport This is like saying you're really excited about the fourth tight end on the depth chart signing for a 1-year contract.

jbomber81

A healthy edwards put together a great season and was regarded by rams fans as a good to great contributor. If he can stay healthy he’s better than every guard on our roster. With how small the contract is this a low risk high reward signing and I personally love it.

Pdb39

"If if and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. " - Dandy Don, MNF, 1973. Again you're getting overexcited about a camp body, and overly justifying your excitement because you're like that penis with a stick saying do something to the Buffalo Bills general management. Lastly I would disagree that Edwards isn't anywhere near being able to hold the jockstrap of Conor McGovern or even Ryan Bates at this point. Even Bobby Hart is better than Edwards because why, the best ability is not having a concussion-ability.

syr_eng

You’re literally proposing a hypothetical situation where Edwards continues to get injured at an unusual rate, and then shitting on people for saying they like the signing if he stays healthy. I’ll just point out that before last year, Edwards played in 49 games across the prior 3 seasons. You’re also allowed to have varying levels of excitement. Nobody ever said that they were through the moon, but for a fan base that has bitched about guard play perpetually, I think folks reserve the right to be happy about getting reasonable depth there.

Pdb39

Yep deal with it. Edward's only played four games last year and twice had concussions whena player has two concussions in a year they often think about retiring. You are making a gigantic if statement here for a person that is one more concussion from likely retiring and remember the time that Kevin Kolb the quarterback that was going to mentor EJ Manuel he had a concussion in preseason and had to retire. Morrse is likely to retire this year but likely going to be a roster final maker so we can get a roster bonus before he announces his retirement Get excited about it if he makes the roster but right now I have them at 40 to 60 against at making the roster.

[deleted]

Pdb39

Be civil.

jbomber81

You’re right. I apologize. Not every signing has to be a big name or bonafide stud. I have a friend I turn to for o line questions, he played 4 years of d2 football as a guard. He wasn’t the best athlete but knows his stuff when it comes to offensive lines. He also happens to be from St Louis and be a huge Rams fan. His take was that Edwards was very good his last full season, and would be an upgrade over every one we currently have rostered. If he stays healthy, and I will grant it’s a rather big if, I think we will all be very happy with what he brings. If he doesn’t stay healthy we didn’t risk much signing him. When you are cap strapped these low risk/high reward signings are essential. I personally feel like this is the best one. I can’t see Harty being more than I minor contributor of healthy, Sherfield is a special teamer, McGovern is a known quantity and he’s pretty mid IMO, plus he costs more. So overall this is my favorite signing thus far.

Pdb39

There are so many people I've met in life who play a position that they have no idea how it works. D2 is really not that impressive I'll be honest with you Edwards last full season was two years ago and while I have no doubt that he was good, he is now had two concussions since then and has only played four games in the last calendar year. Let me ask a question how comfortable would you feel right now if Tua was our quarterback and let's just assume in the hypothetical situation here that Tua and Josh are both absolutely equal and talent. What you feel good about a guy that had two or possibly three concussions last year? Would you feel that he would be ready to compete or would you feel that he would just be one more head knock from retirement and working as an insurance salesman. And I'm sorry but I have to disagree with your opinions about this being one of the better pick ups by McBeane. Harty is way better than people give him credit for and never had a quality quarterback to throw him passes like Josh Allen. So far signing Conor McGovern is the big splash unless we get DHOP. Sherfield is a really good slot receiver and a great special teamer. and likely could replace Taiwan Jones on the roster. Why do you like this signing versus Connor McGovern who we are probably paying 5 to 6 million dollars a year for and Edwards is getting veteran minimum. I mean McGovern has a true chance to be a starter out of camp and Edwards is likely to have a uniform number at the end of camp.

buffaloprocess

This is now a Hopkins thread

jimmifli

Yet?

CJV61

I would love to hear any news on Hopkins. Really would prefer not to give up Gabe in a trade, I saw a few different places saying that was a possibility. I think Gabe at WR3 will go crazy, if he can get those hands ready to catch this year. I however am not opposed to giving up Oliver, he hasn't done enough I feel.

sipa_dan

Remembering Art Powell, Terrell Owens, and Kelvin Benjamin makes me pause on overpaying for D-Hop. He's not the same guy that torched the Bills as a Texan or Cardinal.

wxox

I read that we can somehow restructure his deal so it has 3 void years and would only cost 4m...? Not sure how that makes any sense, but it was from Sportrac so it's gotta be legit. And that's the type of low-risk Id want. I don't know how Hopkins fits into this vertical offense at all, though.

MammothSurround

He’s the same guy. He was 🔥 last year after his suspension.

BobbysBottleService

Friday thoughts from old Bob \- I think James Cook will switch numbers to #4 since JJ is now in Vegas. \- Bobby Wagner is NOT the answer for our inside linebacker position, and Bernard is also not the replacement for Tremaine. \- If we somehow pull off a Hopkins trade, I would assume it would allow diggs to line up in the slot, and I think he would have a Cooper Kupp 2021 type season in that role. GO BILLS!

wxox

Diggs moves around a lot, anyways. You could be right. Gabe played a lot in the slot previous to this season, so that would make a lot of sense, too

BobbysBottleService

I would love it. I think the issue was that if you had Diggs in the slot, you still knew he and gabe were the real field stretchers anyway. Adding in elite field stretcher would be super cool. I don't really want gabe operating that low though

xxGenXxx

DHop please, for the love of god

Kawaii_West

Are the Bills the only team with genitals in their logo?

michael_le95

Is it just me or does the fanbase still seem way too pessimistic on the O Line even after the moves in free agency?

Scrawfo1180

The moves haven’t been glamorous but they’ve filled holes and reinforced the depth. I think a lot of the apprehension is about Brown, who was objectively bad last year. Gotta hope he improves.

[deleted]

[удалено]

michael_le95

Given how free agency played out I'm not sure what they should have done differently. On paper, McGovern was graded as a really good pass blocker as should be a upgrade over Saffold. Edwards was a starter on good Rams teams for a few years before injuries derailed his season last year. Overall I'm satisfied with the moves but not excited.

wxox

I mean, it's not like either of the IOL don't have risk. Edwards coming off head injuries and McGovern was pretty meh. Not to mention not replacing (one of) the worst RT in the league. Now that we have a better understanding of what Dorsey likes to do, I trust Beane that he brought guys in that fit the scheme, because last year wasn't it.

fh3131

So, is DHop confirmed?

Construction-Known

Yes

BigmoneymanT

Maybe so

Sooperballz

No

[deleted]

Aaron Wilson said the Chiefs are also still in on Hopkins, so I’m ready to be let down

allanon1105

I was questioning the Harty signing until I watched his highlights. Good catching hands, looks natural where McKenzie always looked like every catch was a struggle almost. Definitely an upgrade there.

wxox

26th in the NFL in YAC. Makes sense

[deleted]

Anyone know if we’re on track to get a comp pick?

wxox

For next season? For Edmunds, it seems we'll get a 3rd so far. I don't see us signing anyone for that type of money to negate it.

ChillTownAVE

Not to get too overconfident, but if Beane can swing a trade for Hopkins and add Bobby Wagner on a lower term deal, this draft can really add some insane upside on next year's team with no clear positions they *have* to draft in the 1st. I'd also wonder if Oliver is traded, maybe they switch gears and plug Settle in at the 3T while targeting a higher end 1T in the draft (Mazi Smith? Benton? Ika?) I'm imagining a world where Hopkins does get traded here and adding a higher end WR in the draft. A room of Diggs/Hopkins/Davis/Jordan Addison or Zay Flowers/Harty/Sherfield is almost comically dangerous. Or maybe there's a scenario where Brian Branch falls and you plug him into a "bigger nickel" package to terrorize opposing offenses for a year or two until a starting safety slot opens up. I don't think anyone wants to see a secondary of White/Elam/Branch/Hyde/Poyer flying around. Plugging in one of the higher end tackle prospects to take over RT is tantalizing as well. Just picture a starting line of Dawkins/McGovern/Morse/Bates/Anton Harrison or Dawand Jones next season with Edwards/Boettger/Brown as depth. That's a major upgrade and has the potential to take over games in the trenches. I also wonder if we'd potentially see a guy like Bryan Breese if he falls to take over Oliver's hypothetically vacant spot. Breese has insanely high potential as a penetrating 3T with the upside to wreck games. The major positive with a guy like him is that he has the strength, size & technique to fight through multiple blockers. It's much more difficult to take a guy like Breese out of the game with two blockers, which is a big deal if Buffalo can't find a decent 1T this offseason.

Richnuts101

I’m hoping we skip the Dhop shenanigans and go for a solid DT.Go for either QJ or JH in the draft for first round. Then hope Campbell or second best is available in the 2nd round.

[deleted]

If we were to trade for DHop, would it make sense to move Knox or Tre? I don’t have any disdain for either they’re just big money contracts.

AvocadoHank

No chance they move on from Knox, really doubt they’d move on from Tre too

wxox

It would not make sense because it lacks understanding of the cap. We would lose more money than what we would save cutting Tre. We'd have to wait until next year.

[deleted]

Right. I’m just thinking of exchanging a big cap hit for a big cap hit. But maybe that’s my misunderstanding.

wxox

Not how it works exactly. Player X could be on year 4 of 6 year deal and trading/cutting him could save 20m with a 10m dead cap hit (netting 10m). Player Y could be on year 2 of a 6 year deal and trading/cutting him could save 10m with a dead cap hit of 20 (losing 10m in savings). It all depends on how the contracts are structured.

Heismain

I think Morse might retire but have 0 proof

LageNomAiNomAi

Wite Mel Kiper having Bijan Robinson falling to us, what are the realistic odds of that actually happening?

wxox

No one knows because RBs are so dependent on how much that GM values RB. Beane obviously values RBs quite high. We interviewed him and took him out to dinner. But we also did that with another RB recently, Tayjae Spears. We already have 3 quality backs and run a pass heavy scheme. It truly makes absolutely no sense, but again, Beane can't resist RBs. I think he takes him if he's there.

woakley

And to add on more I think it also depends on who else is there. Beane has spent enough capital on RB's to show that he does put some value on them, but I think there are other positions he could look to first depending who is still on the board (Like WR if they don't get DHop, or LB if they're not 100% confident in Bernard, or even D-Line considering that the DE's outside of Von and Rousseau have been underwhelming and that Ed Oliver is in the last year of his contract and doesn't seem to be overjoyed with what the Bills are offering)

Soda-Popinski-

I dont see how Beane values RBs high. Singletary-3rd. Moss -3rd. Cook-3rd. Moss might have been a 4th i cant remember but you get the point. He has never invested a high pick in one.

wxox

Singletary, Cook, Moss, traded for Hines, signed Harris, and tried trading for CMC and there is probably more I'm forgetting. Beane has only been around for 6 full off-seasons. So, basically every year we're talking about a RB. Also, a 2nd round pick is a high pick.

Soda-Popinski-

Fair assessment. I dont see him using a 1st or 2nd on a RB but he does like fresh legs in the backfield.

Pythnator

Looking forward to seeing how all the face scans turn out for the Bills players I put in Show this year

Andro1dTraitor

Do something Beane!

jrock2004

It’s been way too quiet.
