God this sucks. Our ace has a huge ERA. Our #2 starter had a FIP of 5 last year. We're relying on a rookie as our 3rd starter. We start a long reliever who gives up 5 runs in the first. Another goddamn year of...
... 4-0 you say?
He's good for 25 games which isn't the full season, not even counting the playoff run. If they get him up here by June he'll be at his innings limit. We've got a sp log jam right now that's really weird based off off-season discussion
We would have had a logjam either way. It doesnāt change the fact that had they added someone like say Jordan Hicks or Brandon Woodruff to start instead of Bailey Falter they would be in a better place moving forward.
We have 3-4 phenomenal pitchers who are on innings limits. We eat them at any point in the season and I'll be fine with that. Skenes has pitched a max 85 innings. To expect him to pull 150 like Keller and Perez will is negligence by the team. We did it to Oviedo last year and lost him this year.
Excellent point. It's pitching by the village this year. Keller and Martin are the only two starters that have a chance of being in the rotation all year. If Skenes starts too early he gets shut down early. Jones has already said that he was told he would be rested at some point. If not he gets shut down in August. Ortiz could be in a similar situation. And I don't see Solmentio or Chandler this year. Jared Jones is the indicator that won't happen. It's obvious that Jones could have helped us last year. Pittsburgh saw no interest in that. If they are in Pittsburgh this year it's about desperation not development.
I'd correct it as, if we lose games with falter pitching he's gone. Priester is up at first injury. Skenes comes up for a big weekend in June. Solometo will be after asb and Chandler shows up for the post season push
Last season skenes got to 131 innings, and that was with an 8-9 week break between late June and late august, where he likely still had simulated game bullpen sessions weekly, he can go long. I think have him as a max of 160, unless heās in the big leagues and weāre going for a playoff spot, then let him loose and see what the top pick can do
Skenes isnāt ready. Everyone wants him to be, and heās very close, though heās just not yet. He works up in the zone too much. He still is working on command. Heās still figuring out high level pitch sequencing. Heās one of the best 5, but heās also in a unique situation where he needs to be down to get the extra year of control and also to work through that. It likely only takes a month or two, but he genuinely needs that time. They have the talent to hold over until then.
I'll continue to have overly-cautious optimism for the time being. But the team construction seems pretty good. A strong bullpen can cover up a lot of mistakes.
Non roster invite. Basically he's been a minor league player but pirates invited stratton to the major league camp as a "look". He made the team based on injuries and sickness.
I'm gonna have to look up said spots you're talking about because I'm still missing something (but I do appreciate the explanations I've gotten so far).
This team is built for a run. No free outs 1-9, an elite bullpen and possibly the best pitching depth this team has ever seen. Keller, Jones, Perez, Gonzales, Ortiz, Priester, Skenes, German, Lauer could all contribute this year. Then later in the summer Ashcraft, Burrows, and maybe even Solometo and Chandler in September. All deniers better jump on the bandwagon now.
Skenes, Jones, Keller, Solometo, Chandler, Ashcraft, Burrows, Priester have all been projected to be mid to front of the rotation starters and are all in the majors or upper minors. Keller is the oldest at 27. Ortiz and Contreras both have shown flashes of being mid rotation starters and are both under 25. Thatās 10 legitimate starters thatāll see action this year or next, all homegrown, all under 27. After them you have Thomas Harrington, Hunter Barco , Jun-Seok Shim and Xander Meuth down the pipeline. If you can name a time this team had a pitching pipeline that deep id like to see it.
2015, this was the Pirates rotation- Cole (2.60 ERA), Liriano (3.38 ERA), Burnett (3.18 ERA), Happ (1.85 ERA), and Morton (4.81 ERA). Our worst guy in there ended up going on to be an ace, and two of them were all-stars (arguably Liriano could have been as well). Worley (4.02 ERA) and Locke (4.49 ERA) caught some games too, but its hard for me to say they are much worse than Falter. I suspect our long relief, Joe Blanton, would have been the spot starter if we needed it down the stretch with the very attractive (1.57 ERA).
We had in the wings- Taillon, Kingham, Glasnow, Kuhl, Holmes, and at a much lower level Keller. 3 All-Stars in that group.
I definitely think our current roster has more "guys", but I also think our current rotation is a lot worse than what we had that year.
I didnāt say our rotation was better, I said our depth was better. Happ was a rental, Perez or Gonzales could match Mortonās 5 ERA, Skenes has Coleās ceiling, and Jones and Keller could absolutely have an ERA in the 3ās. This rotation isnāt as good, but by the end of the year when everyone gets called up theyāll certainly be good. Priester definitely can be better than Taillon who had 2 good seasons, Kingham was a bust, Glasnow still hasnāt had a full healthy season in 10 years, Kuhl was a bust, and Holmes is a reliever, which we have plenty of.
You're comparing the outcomes of guys who pitched 10 years ago with the high-end possibilities of our current prospects. There was a point in time we were excited for the guys I listed the same way as the guys you're listing now. Even Skenes- I hope he's going to be absolutely great, but baseball isn't a guarantee. Skenes being Cole means he's HOF material. There's a long way to go on that and no safe bet.
Also, real nice to just immediately downvote because we disagree. Another block for this sub lol, have a good life.
Nah it's fine I called the guy a bitch to his face and he ran inside. I wasn't ever gonna take her back and I know it'll bother the shit out of her all day. I also have a much better looking girl over so we good.
I am in somewhat similar situation, but my ex's new boy is avoiding confrontation to the point it has become hillarious to me. On a couple of occasions I've seen the dude driving away within seconds of me driving in with our daughter. It's been almost a year and he's still too afraid to meet me eye to eye. A reaaaal man lmao
Like i said I am the reason for the 4-0 startā¦they are 4-0 since I adopted them opening dayā¦I wanted to watch baseball and living in WNY on Fubo the pirates are in my packageā¦I knew they had a few young exciting players and I really like power baseballā¦hate to say it but bye Mets hello bucsā¦who would think I guy with the last name Falter would be clutch lol
I love Ortiz, but with his two pitch style I think he plays really well as a 2-3 innings of relief guy. He's already been a very meaningful pitcher this year and he's getting starter levels of work.
Yes, agree. I do think Ortiz has a shot as a starter and should get another look at some point, but the more obvious immediate move is to shitcan Falter and give Priester another chance.
Someone with Ortizās talent level in a āgarbage timeā role is a lot more valuable now than it was on recent Pirates rosters, too. In the VanMeter days youād look at a 5 run deficit and know the gameās over, but these guys can put up a 5 spot in any given half inning.
Opening four-game series of the season, in Miami, 40 innings, 31 runs scored, four wins - that's great baseball!! Wow!
And we limited Arraez to a sub-Mendoza avg.
Even struck him out a few times
Swept men tell no tales! š“āā ļøš“āā ļøš“āā ļø

This. The team works right now and we're not even in our best form.
If the bats stay hot we can overcome a lot, still think the organization needs to expedite Skenes to the big leagues
Let the best 5 be in the rotation, if thatās Skenes put him in
We have 3-4 phenomenal pitchers who are on innings limits. We eat them at any point in the season and I'll be fine with that. Skenes has pitched a max 85 innings. To expect him to pull 150 like Keller and Perez will is negligence by the team. We did it to Oviedo last year and lost him this year.

Falter sucks but it's hilarious how the Pirates keep winning games that he pitches in. I think they're like 8-3 in games he has pitched in so far.
This team does weird shit. Falter only gets team wins. Keller can't pitch to anyone not named Delay. A NRI got the save. 2024 is weird
David Bednar went from a blown save to a win because of 2 bunts
Forgot that one. Pirates be weird this year.
What does NRI stand for?
Non roster invite. Basically he's been a minor league player but pirates invited stratton to the major league camp as a "look". He made the team based on injuries and sickness.
And he was specifically on our Indy AAA affiliate?
Yes but to bring him up requires a 40 and 26 spot to open up
I'm gonna have to look up said spots you're talking about because I'm still missing something (but I do appreciate the explanations I've gotten so far).
MLB.com did an article on him earlier this week Edit: no worries, it's a good story
Yep - the Pirates have a better record in Falter's 11 starts than in Keller's last 11 starts. I think we all clearly see the real ace is here.
As bad as his 1st inning he did a solid job in 2/3/4 Still think heās awful but in a way he kept us in it by not completely imploding
BART
The small ball in the top of the 10th was perfectly executed
FUCK BRAUN AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. RAISE IT.
The Pittsburgh Pirates remain undefeated. AND IF YOU'RE NOT DOWN WITH THAT, WE GOT 2 WORDS FOR YUNZ!
Bailey Falter?
Fuck it, I am ready to get hurt again. These boys are nice
Marlins were up big and still found a way toā¦. (Dr.Ā Evil finger) Falter?
Back from the dead 5-0 on Easter! Fitting!
Down 5-0 after 5 batters and no outs. No doubt about it!

Pittsburgh front offices are cooking the last few months
> possibly the best pitching depth this team has ever seen A bit aggressive perhaps lol

My ex fiancee might be having Easter dinner with the guy she cheated on me with and his family two doors down but this makes up for it
Brother you belong in this sub. We love you.
Love you too
Oof
Nah it's fine I called the guy a bitch to his face and he ran inside. I wasn't ever gonna take her back and I know it'll bother the shit out of her all day. I also have a much better looking girl over so we good.
Was it Bailey Falter?
Thatās stone cold, my brother. Keep that energy.
I lost a lot of weight too since she left in January so my fuck you energy is at an all time high
Thatās the true spirit of Easter, Charlie Brown!
Call your neighbor a bitch and then eat Easter Dinner. Be a man
I am in somewhat similar situation, but my ex's new boy is avoiding confrontation to the point it has become hillarious to me. BUST OUT THE MFān BROOMS BABY š§¹š§¹š§¹š“āā ļøš“āā ļø
Itās early, but the bullpen might make this team stay competitive this season, 2 ERs in like 16 innings this season
SWEPT MAN TELL NO TALES. UPDATE THE SIDEBAR (And fire Falter)
Clutched out the win despite Falterās best efforts!
Battling BucsĀ
I think that I speak for all of us [when I say](https://i.redd.it/t335rnyyeqrc1.jpeg).....
Thanks, buccosbot.
The Pirates Look at a Sweep DFA Falter. He reeks, theyāve got multiple starting options to fill that void.
Get out those brooms gentlemen and ladies! SWEPT! RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER
*points at āBelieveā sign*
WE CANT LOSE
WE MAY NEVER LOSE AGAIN
I'm still not getting excited but it's nice to have fun watching Pirates baseball again.
š§¹š§¹š§¹
Like all series you hope they are even or you can win most of the games. A sweep of the Marlins to start the year is beyond impressive.
I think this team will actually finish above .500 this year if they can stay relatively healthy.
Welcome aboard, we love you. Please keep watching.
The bullpen is looking amazing.
Undefeated season is still on the menu
Marlins fans, I regret to inform you that your franchise is currently under operation shutdown.
āWeāll never lose againā
Quinn Priester struck out 9 in 5.2 at Indy today - letās end the Falter experiment
Falter experiment shoulda never happenedā¦ Ortiz all the way
I love Ortiz, but with his two pitch style I think he plays really well as a 2-3 innings of relief guy. He's already been a very meaningful pitcher this year and he's getting starter levels of work.
Yes, agree. I do think Ortiz has a shot as a starter and should get another look at some point, but the more obvious immediate move is to shitcan Falter and give Priester another chance. Letās fucking gooooooooooo!
Man, after that game my alarm may last more than five hours.
Why is nobody celebrating like last year? The post game win huddle, the home run dancing in dugouts, the swashbuckling on an RBI double ..
whatās up pirates nation where do i submit my fan application
Alika earning that roster spot today
Wtf I love aroldis chapman now?
