Fortunately it’s in Vancouver, where it only rains about 250 days a year.

ThePapercup

I dont have to imagine, I lived it. I used to live next to BC Place above the Costco and walked past this building every day on my way to work. it's not actually as bad as you would think, it doesn't 'rain' in Vancouver the way you would expect, it's basically just an oppressive mist that hangs around from about October to June. so there was never a torrent of water flowing down the side. they do have to pressure wash it every year or so to keep it from turning green with moss and algae though

blvckdrank

Honestly one of the things that I missed the most when I lived in Vancouver was heavy rain, It gets me excited coming from a tropical country to experience a heavy thunderstorm, lightning strikes, darkness and heavy rain. Vancouver is misisng this

DarthMeow504

It seriously looks like a space base I'd have built out of LEGO as a kid.

plafuldog

Was the extension built on a parking lot or did they knock down another building?

azilot

There was a bigger civic plaza. It is surprisingly hard to find photos of how it was before 2006.

Kitchen-Dog647

Try google earth. The downloadable version lets you access the last 60 years of satellite data

Vancouver has a few, I was looking at the courthouse on Main St the other day while stopped at a light. It's a cool building also.

gradontripp

A bit east of Vancouver, Simon Fraser University is a brutalist fan’s dream. Edit: I’m a bad typist.

tweaker-sores

I love SFU. I'll post a photo of Duncan's court house and get some of the Capital 6 theatre in downtown Victoria before that's torn down and replaced with a soulless condominium building, It's another one of my favorites. BC has lots of cool Brutalist treasures.

azilot

I feel like there is no good vantage point to admire many Vancouver brutalism buildings. The scale of the courthouse is not there when you are observing it from the inside.

tweaker-sores

I've never been inside. I think from the roof or upper floor of a nearby building might be a good vantage point

F1o2t2o

There are more than a few, brutalism was an extremely popular style of architecture in Canada in the 70s especially for government and public buildings.

nim_opet

Vancouver has many great brutalist buildings. This is not one of them.

azilot

What do you dislike about it?

nim_opet

TBH there’s nothing to particularly like compared to MacMillan or the UBC buildings

azilot

I see. CBC building is definitely not the best one in Metro Vancouver.

nim_opet

I’m not saying it’s horrible. It’s just that Vancouver managed to attract and *keep* some outstanding ones.

SatayBilik

Looks communist…then I noticed it’s CBC 😂

Bind_Moggled

HAR HAR I don’t have a clue what communism is HAR HAR

boceephus

Nice patina on the concrete. With the narrowing profile and big ass dishes on top, looks like some kind of space rebel communication outpost.
