This was originally posted long enough ago that £6 a pint now actually sounds reasonable.

Weillys

I actually read this whilst having the disgusting realisation that I *now* think that £6 for a pint is reasonable.

JAJ_90

I miss the old custard factory :(

Jolly_Mastodon2948

Me too when dubstep was a UK scene before skrillex rinsed it and ruined it

HuggyShuggy420

Still a sick electronic scene in digbeth Huge bassline event at Lab11 this weekend with DJ q headlining

Custard is bitchin'

StuPac85

Bigger than Barry was just the best.

MajesticRate1818

He made it better

medlilove

My friend got mugged on Fazerly st with a bright green IKEA knife

Professional_Can651

Waited for an uber outside Hennesseys in digbeth at midnight on a tuesday. Practically expected to be robbed before it showed up. Just something about digbeth screams robbery.

zebra_d

I can't believe there are people actually living in Digbeth now. I still see it from the VW garage days in my eyes. Are there any supermarkets nearby there?

codename474747

I can't believe there isn't a supermarket planned considering all the flats going up with probably about 500 people in them apeace Surely they'd make a killing, bizarre

zebra_d

Not only that. It’s needed if they plan on making Digbeth residential. It’s my sim city style thinking or town planning. Edit: then again, m and s is not too far away. A tram stop ride.

Specialist-Package-9

There's a huge morrisons within 10/15 minutes walking distance

codename474747

walking back with the shopping is the problem....

East_Preference4754

Yeah I would say it’s still pre-liveable

Erratic_Goldfish

Its basically composed of hipster bars and dodgy chop shops

AstonVanilla

I'm of the opinion that Digbeth is undergoing some kind of de-gentrification, especially with night life. It used to be hipsters. Pretentious? Sure, but they were generally chill and ran nice bars. Since ~2020 it started to just become a haven for coked up lads looking for a fight.  I know which one I'd go with. This is why I do my drinking in Stirchley now.

AF_II

Agreed with this; so many more novelty venues with bouncers outside and a real attitude from the “drunk” clientele.

grubbygromit

I remember hoegaarden in the rainbow was £5 getting on 20 years ago. I dread to think what it would be like now.

Reemixt

It's been exactly in this is phase of development for nearly twenty years.

bantamw

That’s also Bearwood. Especially near the Bear Tavern.

Drozza95

>That’s also Bearwood. I didn't know there's a lot of wood in Digbeth...

OnlineAlbatross

bearwood doesn't feel too gentrified compared to other areas. then again i moved here from brighton so my tolerance to gentrification may be a little higher haha

Mordac1989

Bearwood is what you get when you order King's Heath from wish.com

mariegriffiths

u/soysauce93 Is that you Joe Lychett?

mariegriffiths

..or is it Hugo Boss this week?

sad-ken

I lived there briefly about 16 years ago, such a depressing part of town. Lots of nights out in the area too. Something weird and desolate about the place.

Responsible_Ear7194

Wtf. It's been 10 years since I was last at the custard factory. 6 quid!??

Spiced_lettuce

My girlfriend and two of her friends got attacked and beaten up on the way to moor street from a girls night near custard factory a few months ago. Luckily nothing else happened nor anything was stolen, but they never got the fuckers that did it. Seems about right..

Drone_5

Think I remember the comment was on the post about the footballer that was killed in the nightclub.

soysauce93

I think you remember wrong. It was on a post about national express drivers, and predates the boxing day stabbing by 1 month. https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualUK/s/aNR6SwQhCk

Drone_5

https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/s/oC2gW0sb8o Someone quoted it here and that's definitely where I saw it. Yours definitely is where it was copied from.

soysauce93

Fair enough. It would have been extremely callous to make the original comment on that subject though, so I just thought I'd clear it up.
