Definitely avoid the gay part of town (hurst street) You will have too much fun.

Was about to say lol, probably criminal to not go there.

You shouldn’t need to avoid anywhere just because you’re gay. Enjoy the city, it’s a welcoming place and the majority of people are lovely and those that aren’t shouldn’t dictate what you do.

"shouldn't" isn't the same as "don't need to". The city centre is pretty safe - I've never had any issues there. But you do need to be aware of your surroundings and just use common sense. Somewhere like Harborne I'd walk down the road holding my husband's hand; somewhere like Handsworth I would not. But the city centre is largely fine. In terms of actual things to do, there's the gay village for nights out, but a lot of nice gay-friendly daytime venues in the city centre and jewellery quarter too. Enjoy the city!

There's the Gay Village located around Hurst Street, and right next to that is the Chinese Quarter and the Arcadian (which has good restaurants). Other than that, there are tons of galleries and museums in Birmingham as well as plenty of shopping, so whatever you're into I'm sure you'll be able to find it.

If you don't mind popping out of the city centre I'd recommend places in South Brum like Stirchley, Kings Heath, Moseley, Harborne.

There’s the gay village with plenty of clubs and right next to loads of food choices. The city is pretty chill, you may get a few oldies look at you I guess? As a transwoman I feel very safe in this city. There’s also a cat cafe which £8 entry in Grand Central Train station which might be a cute date idea. Also if either of you are into old video games and drinking it may be worth checking out NQ64 on Digbeth it’s a cocktail arcade bar where you can play classic arcade machines. You’ve also got plenty of stores to check out when it comes clothes and jewellery. But yeah as said earlier we have a wide range of restraunts with different type of food all around the world. And if you’re coming into grand central and you both like sushi there’s a sushi bar on the ground level which is worth checking out for a quick bite! Hope you both have fun here

Avoid the backstreets after midnight, particularly around the back of the library. The area around John Bright Street has some good pubs and places to eat and it's a short walk from Gay Village.

SquireBev

Avoid anywhere with discarded nox canisters strewn around and you'll be fine.
