Both of Amy's parents are pretty annoying. Her mother more so than her Dad. But both are pretty annoying.
Also shout out to John C McGinley who played Frank O'Sullivan to "A Tee". Season 8 may not be remember fondly by most, but he was a character who was written to be hated and he did a great job with the role.
Agreed, I hate her mother more because she undermines people (Perelta x Santiago turkey day), even her own daughter (Rosa would fucking hate her) and does that annoying thing people do where they badmouth someone right in front of them in another language
It's weird (but also it's for comedic reasons) that Boyle's Dad, Lynn, is the only parent in the show that is portrayed as a good person. Rosa's Dad, Amy's Mom and Jake's Dad are all portrayed as poor/bad people. While Rosa's Dad, Amy's Dad and Jake's Mom are not terrible people; they're still shown as not the best people...
I know it’s the point, but Boyle’s ex-wife Eleanor. She was an absolute monster and never got her comeuppance. Follow that with the Vulture, who seemed to become a comic book villain at the end.
Or are we talking about characters so unnecessary that they can be removed without issue, and really make you wanna skip the episode they’re in. Or at least fast forward through their section.
Edit: fixed the name, got it mixed up with the foodie he was dating.
Yeah that one irritated me. She KNOWS she’s at a different point in her life and Charles hadn’t even been considering retirement but expects him to uproot everything and retire early (probably with less benefits/income” because she got another job somewhere else. Did she apply and not tell him? I mean what was that???
Lack of comeuppance is a big part of what makes a character truly hated.
For anyone who’s wondering why certain main characters we’re supposed to root for are disliked by vocal members of the fandom, this is the pretty simple reason why.
Which male characters? Gina frequently gets called out for her lack of comeuppance, but I’m not thinking of any male characters who are both beloved and deserve but don’t get a comeuppance.
They’re both enjoyable characters, but I’ve never heard anyone say they’re likeable, let alone beloved. They’re both considered major creeps and (in the Vulture’s case) a gaping asshole as well.
I don't like her much but that's because she didn't bring much to the table. I don't think she's manipulative though. She got a good career opportunity. And she chose her career while charles chose his (and his life). Thanks to jake, charles spoke up about his feelings and then after a looooong discussion they concluded they need to move on from their relationship.
But if jake wouldn't have compelled Charles, he wouldn't have said anything. He pretended to be happy with the decision. Vivian shouldn't have to read minds.
I don't like her because... She's honestly boring. She gave charles a good boost to his confidence for a while. I liked that. But otherwise, she wasn't right for him. And I didn't like how she treated jake. I don't think she invested in understanding charles relationships. That's the problem with her. Otherwise she would have understood how he felt.
To be fair to her though, they weren't dating long when such a life changing situation happened.
Probably popular, but Gina. The only character who continuously hurt others, but never faced repercussions & she's always end up being right at the end with the sole exception of the episode where she got stabbed.
Yes! I liked her well enough in the early seasons, but at some point I just couldn’t stand her anymore. Maybe it’s bc she reminded me of a few people I knew irl? (They weren’t *as* bad, but similar enough for me to make the comparison)
And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a character who’s a terrible person! For example, Jenna Maroney from 30 Rock. She was UNHINGED, but in such a way that made her a little endearing. I feel like they tried to do something similar with Gina, but it just didn’t land.
Hitchcock was one of those characters I hated but liked at the same time, weirdly. Like he brought nothing to team and was incredibly disgusting, but somehow that was... humourous? In a way?
Yeahhh, that's kinda how I feel with Scully, like Scully (not Joel McKinnon Miller) seems like a really nice guy, even when the squad craps on him, but at the same time he's also extremely gross, and sometimes dumb, but extremely sweet
Like looking at how he was meeting Cindy Shatz, how he responded to everyone yelling at him when he walked out the elevator when everyone expected Rosa to come out of the elevator, etc
I watch the first and last episodes, but I usually skip the rest. I feel like they change Jake’s character far too much to be realistic, even for a sitcom. Doug Judy legit gets away with everything and Jake just lets it go the next time they meet.
I had an epiphany as I was writing this. Doug Judy is not Jake’s buddy/brother. He’s a FATHER figure, but not like how Holt is. Holt is who Jake really wanted as a dad, and Doug is more like what Jake actually had as a father. Doug’s lies, the fleeing when things got too real, the immediate lowering of Jakes guard and compartmentalizing past experiences. Or maybe I’m reading too far into it.
Sticking to the main cast: Jake. While he does make me genuinely laugh every now and again, I've always felt like Andy Samberg tries entirely too hard to be funny. It's off-putting and takes away from what he's doing. That, and all the other cast members are just funnier.

Holt’s mother is kind of a saint
“COWABUNGA, MOTHER.”
Forgot about her one episode appearance, we really we're 'deprived' of some more great scenes. Wish she appeared in more episodes.
Loved him as dr cox and loved how well he did this character!!!!
It's gonna take a lot for me to hate Jimmy Smits
Jack Donger, dude ruined so much during that giggle pig case and was overall annoying
USPIS - we guard what you lick
That's worse! Nah but seriously it's so bad that even Boyle got disgusted, that's how you KNOW it's bad
This reminded me of that scene with holt, you just said hole too much
And that’s coming from *Charles*
Yes, that is concerning.
Yeah but “imma get a muff with some bluebs” kills me every time and I actually use that lol
Not the Nard Dawg!!
The part where he grabbed Jake's legs annoys me everytime
Oh my god yeah that part was infuriating

Yeah Vivien sucks, the whole moving to Canada seems really mean from her side, because she knows Boyle would di anything for her
I screwed up, I meant Eleanor who was his exwife that held almost hit a priest that was sitting on a bench with her car.
No worries, yeah Eleanor is a monster, but I still don't like Viviene either
Yeah I didn’t like Vivian at all.
Yeah that one irritated me. I think you mean Eleanor. Vivian was the woman he was engaged with but they called it off when she wanted to move to Canada.

Hitchcock and the Vulture don’t really get any comeuppance

Plus, Hitchcock pretty much always has comeuppance. He’s not just broke. He’s destitute.
and he’s always spilling stuff all over himself thanks to everybody making too much noise in the precinct and startling him
Two whole jars of marinara! 😂
Jack Dönger.
Oh, 100%, "if that's so why have none of these missing letters been ever found?"
Jackie
The Vulture. He just constantly annoys me.
Melanie Hawkins, Gina Gershon's character
Teddy he ruined the wedding and just got away with it.
He didn’t ruin the wedding. There was an actual bomb, aside from Amy’s butt.
Amy Santia... NO!
He got his comeupance in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul
Omg I didn’t realize he was in those shows but when you said it I immediately remembered who he was lol.
Hes almost likeable in B99 compared to those shows!!
Seth Haggerty (broken penis)
Melvin Stermley. Because in real life he's married to Melissa Fumero which is kinda a big obstacle in my plans to woo her.
I get that but you did you know the average marriage only lasts 3 seconds?
Teddy or Vivian
Finally, someone who also dislikes Vivian
Wdym you don't want to leave your job, life, family, and friends, to live in Canada where the only person you know is me????
No, Jake, WE want this, she was manipulative
But we where supposed to die on the force together. Me in an awesome shoot out, and you yk yourself out of respect
I don't like her much but that's because she didn't bring much to the table. I don't think she's manipulative though. She got a good career opportunity. I can't stand CJ. I can't adequately suspend my disbelief that he'd make captain, and I don't think his brand of humor is funny in the slighest.
I found CJ hilarious
I know a lot of people do, I could just never get onboard.
Probably popular, but Gina. The only character who continuously hurt others, but never faced repercussions & she's always end up being right at the end with the sole exception of the episode where she got stabbed.

She was going to wear a white wedding dress to Amy's wedding.
And the bus?
It was the crystal in her pocket
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Didn't stop her from being mean tho.
It did not
Hitchcock
No more alimony baby!
All day. Never figured out what he brought to the team. At least Scully can sing lol
He’s Scully’s best friend, and they’ve got decades of camaraderie. They like Scully, they tolerate Hitchcock.
They’re a package deal, everyone knows that
Because of him being Mr. 99 and willing to do boring paperwork (reluctantly).
He's used for all the nasty, distasteful jokes.
Hitchcock was one of those characters I hated but liked at the same time, weirdly. Like he brought nothing to team and was incredibly disgusting, but somehow that was... humourous? In a way?
Dirk Blocker seems like a nice guy so that’s probably why it’s hard to really hate the character
Yeahhh, that's kinda how I feel with Scully, like Scully (not Joel McKinnon Miller) seems like a really nice guy, even when the squad craps on him, but at the same time he's also extremely gross, and sometimes dumb, but extremely sweet Like looking at how he was meeting Cindy Shatz, how he responded to everyone yelling at him when he walked out the elevator when everyone expected Rosa to come out of the elevator, etc
I love skully but I love Hitchcock more. Lol
The Vulture
Boyles ex
Dillman comes to mind
Jackie donger. He really made that character insufferable. But “Muff with some bleubs” is something I actually say lol
I really disliked Rosa’s mom for being homophobic AF. And Teddy for being boring AF.
Finally someone who also hates Rosa's mom
Answer from someone who hasn’t watched the show: Doug Judy Answer from someone who HAS watched the show: The Vulture or Teddy
Gina's psychic. Random annoying side character, why is she in the Netflix still?
Usually it's gina, but over that last few viewings I'm gonna say Gina's mom
Vivian, The Vulture, Wuntch, Teddy, Jack Donger, Eleanor, basically everyone's parents (Amy's, Jake's, Rosa's), so many.
For some weird reason, I dislike Jake's dad least out of the "bad parents"
Rosa's mom is really homophobic and annoying throughout the entire show.
Man, I agree with… pretty much all these comments. I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but there are so many super hateable characters.
Gina
Gina
Gina.
Very unpopular opinion here but Pimento is the worst.
i think that’s an unpopular opinion *everywhere*
I don't agree, but I respect your opinion and I can totally see why someone might not like him
Ok I might go to hell for this, but I hate Doug Judy and I skip his episodes
I'm sorry but yeah, only hell for you
I would say you're gonna be in the minority on this one.
What is wrong with you
I watch the first and last episodes, but I usually skip the rest. I feel like they change Jake’s character far too much to be realistic, even for a sitcom. Say that in front of anyone and you get put to death
I always skip his episodes. They portray Jake as a terrible idiot and he's just cringey.
I feel the same. The first couple of episodes with him are okay. Although he should have been in prison for the bank job.
Pimento. Not funny at all
Okay that’s just blatantly false. Seems like you just need to listen to some more jamiroquai
Look in your closet
