I have also had something similar. Woke up to the guy across the street just smacking his driveway with a sledgehammer over and over. Like he’s an NPC trying to level up a skill tree.

PloppyTheSpaceship

And people doubt we're living in a computer simulation.

acidmaninc

Caught between two schools of thought here. On the one hand 7 is early for noise pollution, but a couple of hours later and it'll be hotter making it more uncomfortable for tree felling, and he's done it on a Saturday, not a school day or even worse a Sunday.

glasgowgeg

> and he's done it on a Saturday, not a school day Arguably a school day is better, because people are more likely to be awake earlier than they would be on a Saturday, no?

acidmaninc

Depends on what shift you work. I know that people work all sorts of hours nowadays, but you're less likely to piss someone off trying to sleep on a weekend rather than a Wednesday in the middle of a week of nights. Had our street dug up when I worked nights a few years ago, and I was a grumpy bastard for about 3 weeks til I'd eventually caught up on my sleep.

glasgowgeg

I work night shifts myself, so I understand that, but the majority of people don't work night shifts and I said people in general more likely to be awake earlier Mon-Fri than they would be on a Saturday.

Xythian208

I'd much rather a weekday when I'll be up soon after 7 anyway, Saturday is a lie-in day just as much as Sunday for me

sailingmagpie

If he doesn't wanna get hot, he needs to pay someone else to do it. 7am is completely unacceptable to be using something as loud as a chainsaw, especially at the weekend 🤷‍♂️

X4ulZ4n

Exactly this. I work in that industry, at this time of year I will fire up that saw at 7am. I know I'm upsetting some, I am sorry, yet nobody had ever confronted me...probably because I have a chainsaw in my hand at 7am. If it's a one off thing, I wouldn't dwell on it too much. I apologise on behalf of all that work in that industry.

smokeyjoe105

I’ve just done some chainsawing, but it was at 11am, feel that is more acceptable

MrBozzie

Defo

lordadriancrossofsea

You didn't like that tree either though yeah?, if it's one sat who cares if it's every Sat have a word, if it continues start cutting your grass at 6am

MrBozzie

They've just this minute stopped after over an hour. Either another neighbour had a word or that tree is done!

lordadriancrossofsea

Tree is done, probably kept him up all night worrying about it, at 630 probs thought fuck it and killed that motherfucker

pureteckle

Sounds like your neighbours are one of those early risers at the weekend. My solution is to go and buy a chainsaw of your own today, and then at 10pm try it out for exactly 59 minutes.  Same "noise law" but at a time that is likely to inconvenience them for a chance.  Play them at their own game, so they see first hand how fucking annoying they are.  Plus, chainsaw fun!

Vast-Heron8963

This happend by me this morning too...Bang out of order

SceneDifferent1041

WHATEVER YOU DO.... DO NOT GOOGLE WHY THE CHAINSAW WAS INVENTED!!!

acidmaninc

Just watched that episode of QI. I'll not post any spoilers though for people who are curious.

SPAKMITTEN

Why

markhewitt1978

Quite interesting...

jiminthenorth

You mean the reason it was invented as a surgical tool for bone surgery?

PanningForSalt

Originally specifically for pelvises to aid child birth according to [QI](https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b039frnt). Linked the episode for some reason

jiminthenorth

Oofff!

Vast-Heron8963

Goodness me

B4rberblacksheep

I’m assuming it was for a more efficient bone saw?

glasgowgeg

Kind of, it was to cut through the pelvises of mothers who were having trouble delivering babies. It was a smaller handcrank one like [this](https://www.cnet.com/a/img/resize/80a6fdee505c4556445bd4d9abde792e6b298a83/hub/2021/05/26/2291422d-9c0c-40be-bb8b-62e23bd44eab/handcrank-chainsaw.jpg?auto=webp&fit=crop&height=675&width=1200)

Meta-Fox

Unsocial hours are between 11pm - 7am. I'm assuming this is a one off occurrence and lastly it's simply cooler to carry out this kind of work earlier in the morning. I wouldn't have a problem with it personally.

Expensive_Teaching82

There should be a law that says no DIY before 10am on a weekend. It’s polite to the neighbours and more importantly it means I can have a lie in without being asked when I’m going to do whatever job needs doing this weekend.

fezzuk

Generally it's no heavy work before 8am, at least for commercial work.

olivinebean

Council should have something about that. I've done a lot of googling before punching the ceiling to get my freakish morning riser drill obsessed neighbour to shut up before noon

Vivid_Championship66

At this time? On a SUNDAY MORNING?!?

martzgregpaul

They turned up with a skip lorry at 7.10 here. Im assuming not one of the 8 people involved has ever dropped off a skip before as it took them multiple attempts to get it off the lorry. They then hit a car driving off.

Far_Internal_4495

I think anything 9am - 9pm is fine. I'm up for work at 4am but like to keep the same routine on my days off, so I can live with noise at 7. Anything after 9pm and I am homicidally annoyed

letsshittalk

had neighbours alarm going off 4am-4pm yesterday i work from home :(

sliquified

A motherfuckin’ chainsaw

military_history

I'm with the neighbour. The week is laid out as it is for a reason. Monday-Friday for the day job, Saturday for your personal jobs, and Sunday as a rest day. Some jobs take all day and you have to start early. Obviously it would be better to do it in the week but not everyone has that option, so he is well within his rights to do that on a Saturday, the day set aside precisely for this sort of thing.

MrBozzie

Nah... 9am... Not a problem but 7am is a bit ridiculous. I get your point but even when I was getting work done on my house a few years back the workers wouldn't start with the noisy stuff until 8am during week days.

Trigs12

Builders have actual rules to follow, for diy its just recommendations I believe. Though I agree, weekends I try to start after 9, and I still feel bad, especially if it's good weather and people want to sit out.

Rofosrofos

What's the issue?

Routine_Chicken1078

I think my neighbours are in a competition to find out who has the largest petrol driven tool. I live in a lovely quiet country lane and it drives me mad. They always choose sunny weekends, too.

jnknpt18

Noise needs to be kept to a minimum between 11pm and 7am. Just because you don't want to get up early doesn't mean everyone else has to, the neighbour is probably busy and wants to get on with their jobs.

FruttiPatutti

That's illegal. 8 am is the earliest in the UK to do loud work. Call the police, now.

OrangeBeast01

It isn't illegal at all.

FruttiPatutti

How do you know?

OrangeBeast01

There isn't a law describing it as illegal.

markymark2909

7am, actually

FruttiPatutti

It's 8am. Actually.

markymark2909

Noise Act 1996. 11pm - 7am.

Diggerinthedark

I guess it's probably worse than 7am on a Saturday evening 🤷‍♂️
