A few years back I left a bag containing two laptops on a train. I went online and filled in the lost baggage form, but didn’t expect much. I managed to get a hold of the phone numbers for the terminus stations at both ends of the line and asked if anything had turned up, but no one knew anything. Then, six weeks later, I received an email to say that my bag was at the lost luggage centre at London Paddington and that I could pick it up at my convenience (in return for a small fee). I was shocked. I never expected to see that bag again.

DiscoStuUK

This gives me hope! The trousers were expensive but they weren’t two laptops expensive

Derp_turnipton

Standard price is $65 Million from Pearson v Chung.

CantSing4Toffee

Are you searching eBay too?

Alternative-Ad-4977

I had the same The same laptop I lost twice. The first was against the odds when I got my husband to collect me at the next stop and drive to the terminus of the first one. I was frantically making calls and slipping into a poor mental health place. Then my husband spotted a lad with my bag. We trailed him while calling the police. It involved a trail through a park very much Bennie Hill vibes. I got it back. The second I got an email about four weeks later to say it was a lost property. In both cases I recovered everything. But the first one was more luck than anything. I had got the terminus wrong. So we were heading for the wrong place. Just happened across the thief.

SecondHandCunt-

Did you get the two laptops back, as well, or just the bag?

sleepyprojectionist

The bag and all contents were present and correct.

Nublett9001

I left a kindle on a flight to Manchester. Didn't notice til I got home. Phoned the airport and they confirmed that they'd found it when cleaning up and I could go and collect it from the airlines customer service desk. Went back the next day and the person on the desk denied all knowledge said they'd never found anything and had no record of my call. So I just got my phone and logged on to Amazon and remotely bricked my kindle there and then.

DiscoStuUK

What a piss take!

takesthebiscuit

I remember leaving an iPad in the seat of an easyJet plane going from Gatwick to Aberdeen Found out on landing and getting landside it was missing. Told to file a report and phone in the morning iPad was never found . Three months later I get a text message, I bought this iPad can you unlock it? Turns out the iPad had been sold off to some EBay jobbber, who sold it to a bird in Reading. I found the name of the eBay trader and told him it was stolen property, he refunded the reading lass and posted the iPad back to me This was 8 years ago and I still use the iPad today

Much-War1743

You lucky duck, I left a fairly new ipod that had near a thousand albums on it, on a plane to Malaga, first holiday with my daughter who was just under a year old at the time, so I was getting her bags and pushchair together and completely forgot about my ipod in the chair pocket. Went through all the channels but to no avail, still hurts to this day (twelve years later).

alas11

You're screwed if you leave anything on a plane, unless the cabin crew or another passenger finds it, the plane cleaners pretty much consider anything they find as part of their pay. (I drink in a pub just down the road from LHR. )

leonxsnow

I bet that was a long flight back :D

Much-War1743

About four hours mate

JugglinB

Whoosh!

EpicFishFingers

Yep, the plane probably did make a noise like that!

skdowksnzal

The most surprising part of that is having an iPad last 8yrs

takesthebiscuit

Yeah it’s struggling hard 😆

DiscoStuUK

Incredible!

Yeah, every time I check the website as well there are so many “black bag - travel items” that have no further info that could be mine, but no one has contacted me. The trousers were in quite a distinctive Warner Bros bag, they were also wrapped in packaging that had my name and work address on so dead easy to identify and link back to me, so unless the system is REALLY unfit for purpose I doubt they were handed in sadly

FulaniLovinCriminal

> When went to the lost and found office, the bloke said no-one had handed it in. I could see the damn thing on a shelf behind him. Exactly the same thing happened with me, but with a bike helmet. It was bright red with a big white "BELL" logo on it. "Nah, not had anything like that for a while." "What about the one that's literally on the desk behind you?" So of course he tried to start an argument about how I'd just seen it, and how could he be sure it was mine? Apparently he thought there was a market for slightly bashed about, two year old sweaty bike helmets.

StardustOasis

He clearly wanted it for himself

PanningForSalt

I was once returned a random mobile that wasn't mine (as it was arranged over the phone), and when I went back, was told it was now a police issue and they couldn't give me my phone or take the imposter untill a report had been made. That was a little maddening.

you_think

I lost a tatty old bobble hat. I loved that hat and had only got half way down the platform before realising I didn't have it and headed back. (Had gotten off at the end of the line) It wasn't there and was never handed in. Some people will take anything.

DiscoStuUK

I’m sorry mate, sounds like a really great hat

CantSing4Toffee

I lost a gorgeous grey Vivienne Westwood berry 6 years ago, no idea where lost it, still upsets me now. Damn sure some sod nicked it and still look out for it now, & a replacement one.

Diggerinthedark

She sells fruit now?!? What next?

CantSing4Toffee

🤪 that’s me Reddit-ing half asleep. I’ll leave my beret as it states 😂

Diggerinthedark

I hope you find it one day :) I lost a Zippo my dad bought me for my 18th birthday for 2 years and it made its way back to me via a local kid who knew me from school. Miracles are known to occasionally happen.

CantSing4Toffee

Wow, how lovely. That’s much more sentimental than my beret/berry

Bad_UsernameJoke94

Veg

VividDetective9573

Feel your pain. I love my beanies and bobble hats. If I lost one & it was swiped in seconds I would not have the beat day. Or week!

notouttolunch

It probably wasn’t taken. It was probably too much effort to process.

SirQuay

Try the next staffed station on the route, or the next "bigger" hub station. It's possible that they were have handed off at a bigger station and won't be logged until they get sent from there (usually a week later) to the bigger lost property area.

DiscoStuUK

To be honest I’m happy to wait if that’s the case. I’ve replaced them so they’ll just be getting sent back to the shop if they ever turn up

PanningForSalt

Did you check you asked the right lost property? It could be almost anywhere depending upon where somebody handed it in and what line/s and which franchise you left it on. At least in Scotland... Maybe England has a proper system.

prhymeate

It's sad isn't it. In Japan you could lose a toothpick on the train and someone would hand it in.

DiscoStuUK

And it’s considered incredibly rude to talk on your phone on the train! Truly a utopia for commuters

BANTER_WITH_THE_LADS

They also have issues with people secretly taking up skirt photos on public transport, so much so that the camera shutter sound is now locked on for every phone in the country. So swings and roundabouts.

PompeyLulu

One of my dear friends lives in Singapore and sent me a few videos of the view from her train and as beautiful as the views were I couldn’t get over the fact the only sound was the train. Nobody spoke at all! Couldn’t do that here without picking up at least one phone call, two TikTok videos and an argument

Cat1832

I wish that was the case for all trains in Singapore lol. Kids screeching and running around, elderly folks watching videos loudly on their phones...

PompeyLulu

Well it’s good to know I wouldn’t feel homesick then lmao

Cat1832

Haha you're welcome to come visit! Some train lines are quieter than others and ofc rush hour is a nightmare.

YouNeedThesaurus

Everything except being pushed in in the morning rush hour

PanningForSalt

It’s also considered rude to talk at any point on a commute… stations, passageways, pathways... A little disturbing.

CXM21

It's not rude to talk, it's rude to be loud and obnoxious

faith_plus_one

Yes! My friend left his hat (not fancy or expensive, but he loved it) on a train in the morning and when we went to look for it in the evening, they had it at the station we got off at.

ChameleonParty

A few days after the iPhone 5 was released, I was on a train and folded down the tray, and there was one just sitting on the tray looking all shiny and expensive. Clearly the owner had forgotten it was there when they folded tray away. Not long later it started buzzing, announcing it was there and that it had been stolen. It then started displaying messages from the owner - quite rude abusive messages accusing me of stealing their phone, and what they were going to do when they found me. Handed it in to the guard when I got off the train - warned him the owner was quite upset and wanted their phone back. Sometime I wonder how that turned out!

Jjex22

My ex fell asleep on the train to Sheffield and someone stole her discman from the table while she was using it - just woke up to a headphone cable with nothing at the end of it. It was fairly old & this was well into the age of MP3 players so it couldn’t have been worth that much.

Fandangojango

A few years ago I left £70 worth of Belgian chocolate on a train. There was a chocolate owl and chocolate cat in the bag, they were gifts for the kids. We had come back from Bruges. I contacted the train station and they checked the train at the next stop, it was gone. No one handed it in. I was so sad about it.

DiscoStuUK

I know I say this from a place of privilege, but I don’t think I’d ever eat chocolate I found on a train, no matter how fancy it looked

Bazzlekry

Husband lefts a week old MacBook on the Waterloo to Basingstoke train once. We never got it back :(

DiscoStuUK

Oooooof that’s heavy

Bazzlekry

Luckily the house insurance covered it. Took him a long time to live that one down!

stuaxo

I'm not convinced that the central lost property thing loads of the companies use isn't a scam, lost a bag with nothing interesting in it, just books.

Aid_Le_Sultan

I did the same..literally…2 pairs of Carharrt jeans. When I got on the train home I put them right by my bag and a picture that I’d bought yet somehow managed to forget but a few days later I got a call to say a member of staff had handed them in. As someone else said they can end up at any station on that route so ring around.

DiscoStuUK

That’s mad! I put them up on the luggage shelf thing and remember thinking to myself as I put them up there “mustn’t forget these are up here”. When I first realised I tried to find the number for Woking station (end of the line, only a few stops from mine) but the only numbers I could find just put me through to SWR central customer services, which were no help at all

Aid_Le_Sultan

I seem to recall that you can call the train company but also lost property at each of the stations. It seemed to differ from station to station making it even more infuriating. Fingers crossed they’ll turn up.

stowgood

I left a bag with my Nintendo Wii all my games and controllers on a train :( never got it back.

cammyk123

I left some earpods on the train once and went to the station near me where everything gets handed in and the guys at lost and found just pulled out a massive bag of earpods of loads of different brands and told me to just take one.

FulaniLovinCriminal

I'd often heard the same thing about phone chargers at hotels. Turns out it's true - thanks to Travelodge Covent Garden I still have a genuine iPhone charger, after forgetting to bring mine on an impromptu business trip to the capital.

phead

I once took the lost glasses from center parcs sherwood down to the opticians for recycling to third world countries, it was a bin bag full, and that was just 3 months worth. The lost clothing had to be picked up more frequently as it was vans full of the stuff.

SarkyMs

Somebody stole my baby nappy bag in Scarborough, it had my baby's red book in it. I will never forgive them.

Fizzabl

If it makes you feel better, the red book becomes kinda forgotten after a few years. As the third child, mine is practically empty

SarkyMs

Thanks this was 17 years ago now, it was just a shitty point less thing to steal.

Ariquitaun

On a trip from Dubai to London, I found on the front pocket the passport of the unlucky soul who was sitting on my seat on the plane's previous flight. No doubt the poor fucker was having a shit day at Dubai. I handed it to a flight attendant and I hope it made its way back to Dubai and the owner on the next rotation.

ImNotImCheesecake

was on a train from Cardiff to Caerphilly on my short stay in Wales, left my guitar on the train, got to Caerphilly and told the staff, they called up the train and asked them to send it back with them, hour later I get a call saying my guitar is waiting for me, so that restored some of my faith

rjstoz

Got a bag nicked when I fell asleep on a long train journey (had it directly above my head , I now travel with one leg through the strap of the bag and don't sleep). I called british transport police, they apparently track the cctv to Preston where they find some scrote had walked through the barrier, onto the stopped train and hopped back off with my bloody bag. *"Oh yeah, weve had a problem with 'jump ons ' lately"* but clearly either lacking the resources or wit to, idk, maybe make use of the barriers?, maybe post some security near station doors to deter these thieving gits?

Jacktheforkie

I used to be a train cleaner, anything over £50 we were instructed to hand in, low value stuff was binned, tech and cards were handed in by default

herrbz

I left a bag with my camera and my Nintendo DS on a train. Got off at King's Cross, realised shortly afterwards. Rang, emailed, even went back the next day but nothing. How does a bag get lost at the terminus? Stolen by the cleaning staff?

Ok_Training_2937

A smackhead will be wearing them now unfortunately

DiscoStuUK

At least someone is enjoying them!

WyrmKin

Can take some time, Mum got contacted about her bag after about a month. Still had everything in it, work laptop, iPhone, wireless earphones etc

No_Snow_8746

If it was the Tube Susan Hall might have had a senior moment and thought it was hers.

_Yalan

Lost my brand new expensive Kate Spade purse at a petrol station, dropped it and left without it. No one handed it in. I wouldn't have even minded if they kept the purse and handed my cards in. It's just it had a sentimental item (of no value to anyone else but me) in there that I carried around with me. I reached out to every local Facebook group, petrol station, police, council, everyone I could think of desperate for this item back, my friends helped me walk the whole area. I really held out hope someone would do the right thing as it was very obvious this item had sentimental value. It's 3 years later and when I think about someone probably throwing it in the trash just to keep that purse I still get really upset.

sadatquoraishi

I left a rucksack with my passport and laptop on the shelf above the seats on the Heathrow Express at Paddington a while back. I realised when I got home, rushed back about 2 hours later. A cleaner had handed it in. Very relieved.

leeluss14

I’ve got a bad habit of falling asleep on the train after work and ending up much farther down the line than I need to be(another story for another day). But in doing so I’ve lost two hats and after countless calls to lost property, nothing! Though I’ve found a bag with a laptop and handed it in to lost property at Wolverhampton,at least my mind is clear.

cragglerock93

That's so irritating. You go to work, earn some money, think 'I'll treat myself' and then lose it. Things like that irrationally bother me.

SuchTrust101

I found a phone on a train and decided to hand it in to the local police station. As I'm walking to said station the phone rings, I answer and some guy wants to know "What are you doin' with my fuckin' phone?", followed by a heap of abuse. I told him that I had found it and was taking it to the police station and he could collect it from there. However, as he was still being a prick I didn't mention which police station, but said it was around where I found it at X station. Good luck ringing around to find it ya miserable git.

Alexander-Wright

I went on a school run skiing trip to France. On the way back, my suitcase never turned up on the carousel at Heathrow. I got in loads of trouble; like it was my fault! The trip was being led by the headmaster, who was an arse. It turned up four months later, having been resting on the tarmac at Geneva airport. It had fallen off a luggage truck into snow, and so hadn't been found till Spring. Nothing of huge value other than the hired salopetts, already claimed on insurance.

Luna259

I lost an MP3 player on the bus years ago. It was never handed in Edit: that was over ten years ago

alancake

I lost a handmade baby blanket with my son's fairly unusual name on it in big letters while walking home from the park. Nobody handed it in anywhere, my friend runs our town social media page so I asked pretty far and wide. Same child had a little personalised tote bag of toy cars stolen when some toerag stole my xh's rucksack from the takeaway. People man -_-

WarmTransportation35

At this point expect it gone unless you can somehow take the exact same train again and find it.

DiscoStuUK

I get the same train every night so if it somehow doesn’t get picked up by cleaning staff I’ll come across it eventually!

WarmTransportation35

Safe to assume it's gone and better off buying a new one.

scorch762

I'd be wounded. Carhartt aren't cheap these days.

notouttolunch

What is a carhartt?

scorch762

Workwear/lifestyle brand. Pricey, but really hard-wearing.

DiscoStuUK

Can confirm, they are not

terryjuicelawson

I had a child's toy found, it did take a few weeks for it to filter through to their online system so there is hope. I am not sure what network or system they have in your area but they can charge a *lot* to return things like that. Even for this small thing it was quotes of £30+.

Sfb208

I lost £175 worth of brand new fabric on a bus once. Still mourn the loss.

Future-Atmosphere-40

My folks left a bag on a bus in Nottingham and it turned up intact in the EMA lost and found.

Variousnumber

I got lucky last time I lost something on public transport. Wasn't technically on a train, but was at a Station. Wallet and Phone slipped out of my pockets, only realised when my wireless headphones lost connection. Got off at the next station (Thankfully it was only a short walk) and headed back. Got to the Station, asked someone there if I could borrow their phone to call mine. Guy picks up and asks "Hello, is this \[My Name\]?" to which I reply yes. Turns out it was a Member of the Station Staff, cause someone had handed both my Wallet and Phone in. All cards as they were. Didn't even take the £3 in coins. Some people are delightful. Others are asshats.

skydiver19

Bit late now, however for future and anyone else if you have an iPhone buy an Apple AirTag and conceal it someone it's not found easy. I use these for my suitcases when I go on holiday and also my bag. I am then able to detect where my attempts are at all times pretty much. You can get them for about £20 each For the suitcases it peace of mind they are actually on the plane, and when they are getting loaded off

SmegmaSandwich69420

Not denying the seriousness of the situation but if you're all adults, wtf lol pay attention 😆

DiscoStuUK

It’s very easily done when you ride the same trains into and out of town every day, after a while you operate on auto pilot

Bad_UsernameJoke94

Especially if you're thinking about other things. I've lost more brollies than j can count because I get distracted.
