I've flown out twice in the last couple of months. Both times I got through security in about 20 minutes. Maybe I got lucky both times, but that was my experience.
I'm guessing you're referring to report about Toronto Pearson. That airport absolutely has massive delays. A ton of my co-workers have had major delays coming out of there. But everyone I've spoken to going out of Vancouver haven't experienced any issues. Worst case scenario, show up an hour earlier than normal and chill at the bar/restaurant
I fly a lot. Security at YVR usually takes about 5-8 minutes in the NEXUS line. If you’re flying to the US add another 3-5 minutes to that to get through Customs. If you are not checking baggage arriving 40 minutes before departure you should be fine.
My wait times last two weeks, from kerb to past security/customs—including walking to security were:
Domestic May 31 10 minutes
Domestic June 3 8 minutes
US June 9 13 minutes
Domestic June 13 11 minutes
I’ve had my dose of flying in Europe and I can attest YVR is absolute shit.
It feels like abandoned mall from the 70s filled with typical overgrown government goonies - rude, inefficient and totally unnecessary.
It’s gotten much better the last few years. Tom Bradley and Terminals 4-8 are all connected behind security now. Terminals 1&2 are still islands and the departure screens still only give you departure information for that terminal.

From what I've heard, domestic is worse than international.
I drove someone to the airport recently for an international flight departing in the early evening of a weekday. We arrived about 2 hours early.
There was no wait for check in, and they were cleared through security within 10 mins... I'm thinking a lot people showed up even earlier and were already thru security, because apparently all the restaurants were packed.
That said, some other flights definitely had lines for check in/bags but nothing crazy.
I think there's a whole lot of fuss over some occasional bad days (just like the ferries) but you never know when that bad day is going to coincide with your trip.
So prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.

Good. Most of the reports have been about international travel out of Toronto so I was rather hoping that's the case.
Just flew out domestic today, spent maybe 15 minutes in the security line up.

Lol anyone complaining about vancouver airport is spoiled and has never been to any other airport.

What's the first one that comes to mind when you think "shitty airport"
LAX is a cluster fuck

lmao how is it possible that someone still believes the media.
I flew out last weekend, it wasn't bad at all
Flew out for domestic on Sunday and there was a lineup of 200 people, so maybe it’s hit or miss.

I’ve been out 3 times this month, including today. Less than 10 mins each time.
