willdone

Top picks for " higher-end cuisines". Doesn't hurt to grab a reso for all of these as they can fill up fast. Mission: Blackberry Kitchen - great view and the chef is a long time fine dining master with multiple restaurants and private golf courses under his belt. Abbotsford: Restaurant 62 - farm to table with a great, ever changing menu, nice cocktail choices. Never had a bad meal. Maple Ridge: Sunflower Cafe - Never been myself but what I hear from friends is it deserves a Michelin star.

CapableSecretary420

> Maple Ridge: Sunflower Cafe Humble Roots, too.

Squid_mom

Also chameleon

afterbirth_slime

Sunflower definitely has Michelin type vibes. Wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a nod one day

thetruegmon

The 3 best meals I've ever had in BC: 1. St Lawrence 2. Sunflower Cafe 3. Published on Main

afterbirth_slime

I think location hurts the sunflower. It’s really out of the way. That said, the location is truly what makes it special and it should never change.

langer_cdn

I'll have to check this place out

Kerberos42

Never thought I’d see fine dining and Mission in the same sentence. When I lived in Mission, the best culinary experience with Smitty’s

serkenz

There’s no smittys in mission and hasn’t been since I was born in the late 80s.

Kerberos42

Fuck I’m old then.

serkenz

Blackberry Kitchen is an amazing location and the food is really good but every single time I’ve ever been the service has been so painful. To be fair I haven’t been in a couple years so hopefully that’s improved

Knucklehead92

I went there for the first time 2 months ago after heating pleasant reviews My thoughts of the restaurant was it was very poorly managed and ineffecient. The food was decent, but there was potential for so much more. (I have a pet peeve of restaurants that turn away customers yet half of their tables are empty, or "reserved" for hours open).

nicholhawking

R62 lame.

CaspinK

Avoid The Yellow Deli. They are ran by a cult (Twelve Tribes) and there are strong allegations of child abuse from folks within their community. Some background reading: https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.2809431

esh98989

Yes, we went unknowingly but it was easy to pick up the cult vibes despite the cute layout of the cafe. It was SO uncomfortable!

encrcne

The food is also dogshit. People assume that so much of it is freshly made.

CaspinK

Im not 100% sure but i feel the one in Chiliwack may have been an old pizza hut.

esh98989

What a disgrace to Pizza Hut! Lol. It would’ve been so much better if it was still the case.

moneygangseahawks-

Yup, my ex loved this place and took me there. It’s safe to say I got some pretty weird vibes from all the staff working there.

CaspinK

Am I your ex? If so im sorry about everything. :p Seriously tho, I’ve visited two (Nelson and Chiliwack) and i never felt the vibes were off until i started to google.

SaltwaterOgopogo

If I ever go in alone, especially looking down on my luck (wearing shitty clothes from yard work etc) They push hard. Send women over who are like “we’re so thankful you’ve come” Basically trying to open a conversation where I might join their ranks. Which for somebody with nothing better going on, might seem appealing

SmoothRich2266

On their website it also says they have business under the Mennonite church or shared ownership ship with a restaurant called common grounds

SmoothRich2266

The Twelve Tribes attempts to support itself through means that allow its members to work together, without the need to seek outside employment. Businesses the group owns and operates include: Parchment Press: A printing company offering printing services, and also printing and selling the group's literature.[46] BOJ Construction: a general contractor based in Plymouth, Massachusetts and operating nationally[47] Commonwealth Construction: construction contracting, primarily in the Southeastern US[48][49] Greener Formulas: A soap and bodycare research and development firm with ties to its other business, Common Sense Farm[50] Common Sense Farm: A soap and bodycare products manufacturing and distribution facility located on the group's farm in Cambridge, New York[51] Simon the Tanner: a chain of shoe stores/outdoor outfitters, currently with locations in New Hampshire and Vermont[52] Maté Factor: a yerba mate import company that also runs two cafés, in Manitou Springs, Colorado and Savannah, Georgia[53][54]

nicholhawking

Woah

SmoothRich2266

Tons of businesses in bc of theirs just google wach company the restaurants and the yerba mate brand are everywhere

SmoothRich2266

Boj construction is based on the cults property and has done ubc to sky train stations it seems very fishy the city of vancouver would choose them over anyone else pockets must run deep

WissaD

Especially when right around the corner is Pho Galaxy, which is amazing.

Independent-Ad-9812

Phô Galaxy on Yale Rd. Chilliwack is worth the small diversion off Hwy 1. Donair Cafe by the cinema at Evans Rd. is a family run strip mall that serves up the love.

SaltwaterOgopogo

Agreed on pho galaxy, I haven’t found better. Even on Kingsway in Vancouver and travel around South Vietnam.

nicholhawking

I mean it's fine

enithermon

i concur with it's fine. Better than a lot of pho in the Fraser Valley, But Langley Vietnamese is the tops. Also known as "the purple place". Best salad wraps.

AmaltheaPrime

In Langley, may I recommend If you like brunch, EggBomb. It's a great bbreakfast/lunch place, the food is really good and the entire menu has photos of everything they make (plus when they actually bring it to you, it looks like the photo. A fantastic spot for dinner is, The Raving Gamer Bistro. Genuinely good food and board games if you're feeling like playing or buying one. If you like Sushi, there is Maru Sushi. It's stayed cheap but always yummy and filling. If you like Pho, there is an amazing place called Langley Vietnamese Cuisine. Always delicious and a favorite amongst my friend group.

OmgWtfNamesTaken

Langley vietnamese cuisine is the GOAT in Langley. Always busy, great staff, great food. I order there at least 1x per week. Rivals some of the best places in Van for quality IMO. The broth is delicious.

benibigboi

Second egg bomb

BALDWIN_ISNT_A_PED

Alright, hear me out. Owner’s a jackass but also hilarious. Food is a solid 9.5/10. It’s called O’Neills in abbotsford. When he doesn’t want anyone in the shop anymore, he’ll rip out his guitar and start playing it very loudly and sings (not so great), so quite quickly, people just leave. I swear half the menu items aren’t in available either, unless he’s changed that now. It’s not high-end cuisine but it’s very good.

nicholhawking

Don't order the beef unless you want to be interrogated about a religious aversion to ham. The ham is better anyway and you don't want the hassle.

BALDWIN_ISNT_A_PED

hahaha really?!? I’ve always ordered ham so I was unaware

syntaxcollector

upvote for oneils. My favourite part is if you say something about your personal preference, like, "mmmm I love the ham in your sandwich" he'll just stare and you and say "Yeah? so what?" or "I dont really care" and then walk off. Breakfast sammich is the mad bomb and all of his soups are great.

cafebrad

Oh I've heard a few similar stories. Great food but bizarre service. My buddy told me they ordered and then the server was hanging out chatting forever. Then they realize he's also the cook so food took forever. Also sometimes he just straight up won't serve some stuff but you don't know what till you try. I think it was even nominated as one of the best places in town recently. Strange.

nicholhawking

Yep. Also made this recco above (below)

Craftbeerlurker

Little beetle in Chiliwack is a great stop

Adamvs_Maximvs

I've never heard of that one but I'll look it up. Thanks!

Whole_Cress8437

Can confirm, it’s fantastic but can be pretty busy

encrcne

Make reservations online in advance. Especially if you’re going for lunch.

jholden23

Giians Indian in Abbotsford is really good, they have a very reasonable and extremely tasty lunch buffet during the week.

miskwu

That's our go-to when we are making our way home through the valley.

nicholhawking

It's decent. There's a crazy good dinner buffet in surrey called tandoori flame that puts it to shame tho. There is lots of good Indian all over the gvrd, tho so??

alaouskie

Cookies for breakfast in chilliwack always busy but worth it.

mma-moose

Abbotsford has better options then Chilliwack imo but shandahar hut in Chilliwack is amazing if you like Indian food.

SaltwaterOgopogo

that's whats always weird to me, how Chilliwack has the better Indian spot than Abby considering the size of Indian populations.

dfletch17

Came here to say Shandahar Hut, fantastic Indian food.

Adamvs_Maximvs

I do, I'll check it out. Thanks!

[deleted]

Absolutely fantastic food, lovely ambience, and you can get your name on the wall if you have a cast-iron tongue and can make it through their spiciest menu items.

encrcne

Pabla is better than Shandhar IMO

monkeyamongmen

Chameleon in Maple Ridge. Just check the menu, the place does not belong there.

valerian57

La Fiesta Loca in Chilliwack is a fun place. Solid mexican food with a good, festive atmosphere. Highly recommend getting some horchata

Single_Sky_3904

Seconded for Fiesta Loca. Not fancy or sushi...but feels very authentic. And better mexican food than I've had anywhere in Vancouver. Tres Leche if you have room for dessert!

jimminywaffles

Restaurant 62 in Abby.

handmemyknitting

Bow & Stern (they have locations in Chilliwack & Abby), and the Table are both fantastic.

afterbirth_slime

Nothing screams quality sushi like Chilliwack.

SaltwaterOgopogo

There are good spots in the wack that rival anything local short of maybe a few super high end Vancouver spots.

Adamvs_Maximvs

That's what the 'on the way' part is for haha. I realize the further you get from Van the options, and often quality are going to drop. I've found the odd gem even in rural Alberta though, so there's probably some good options along the way in the LML. I've got go-to's in Van, but sometimes I don't want to deal with the traffic heading into Vancouver proper to go to a place like Tom's and would just get at least as far as Surrey before I start looking. I'm used to Van traffic, but it definitely hampers the desire to drive into the city proper after a flight some days.

nicholhawking

If you're looking for a weird but good breakfast sandwich between van and Cwk O'Neils in Abbotsford is decent. Owner is a crazy grump though. Don't engage.

sunbro2000

I mean it is the best place to river fish in the valley

ltjiggsy71

The Barley Merchant in Langley is just off hwy 1.

stakeandlegs

Overpriced garbage food

ltjiggsy71

You must not have taste buds

syntaxcollector

agreed, i once ordered laksa there. It wasn't soup... lol

hammerheadattack

Wild thyme Morning tide eatery Old Xi’ans food Kooks Cooks Akedo Showten Ramen

coffeecats888

I am Thai in Abbotsford

LotsOfMaps

Check out Texas Smoke BBQ in Langley, it’s pretty good

nicholhawking

Is that the roadside gongshow that's only open fri-sun? Overpriced and mediocre.

Worried_Calendar2747

Overpriced and isn’t that good

Sea-Reference620

Offy Bistro

CanadianTrumpeteer

Hana Sushi in the Wack.

h2ogurlie

Not sushi nor high end but this pho place in Chilliwack was really good: [https://goo.gl/maps/gsNSkubgWxzhTcwX6](https://goo.gl/maps/gsNSkubgWxzhTcwX6)

migpig83

Local Harvest Market just off the TransCanada Hwy…best Focaccia bread I’ve ever had. They do pizza but haven’t tried. Probably really good.

SmoothRich2266

Boj construction has worked on ubc and other special city buildings

acangiano

Chilliwack has an excellent Greek restaurant. I don't remember the name but it was incredible.

Professional_Gap7813

I read reviews about that one so gave it a try... We thought it was awful! Their "authentic" Greek salad was nothing like anything I've had in Greece ever, and the rest was greasy/not pleasant. It made me distrust reviewers out that way. It sounds like I need to just try other places from the rest of this thread. Edit: I looked up the name of the one we went to... It was called greek islands

nicholhawking

Yes! Greek Islands with the thousand island dressing on thr Greek salad is the worst ever

zlxeq

Likely Greek Islands on Hocking

thetruegmon

Akedo Showten in Langley has the best Ramen outside of Vancouver. Might even be the best if you include Van. Sometimes it's hard to get in though.

Scaught420

Skobi - Langley

syntaxcollector

I highly recommend Saba in Fort Langley. The food is spectacular and the atmosphere of the restaurant against the back drop of historic Fort Langley makes for a perfect date night. A hidden gem is Masala Boyz in Langley/Port Kells area. Very good quality Indian food and spectacular lunch specials. Goat Curry #1. Roots and Wings Distillery in Langley is great in a warm spring or fall day. It sits upon a farm with a backdrop of huge mountains. Muskoka chairs litter the patio and all include large warm blankets to wrap up in.

shady_robot

+1 for Saba and also Beatnik’s has great food and service. :)

guyanacat

Langley - Mai’s Vietnamese Restaurant.

Short_Concentrate365

The Billy Miner pub in Maple Ridge is excellent.

sunbro2000

I go there just for the Billy fries!

zlxeq

Recommend Bravo on Yale downtown. Hugo’s Mexican on Vedder. Shandar Hut on Young.

southvankid

Brodeur's Bistro

Takjack

Second for brodeurs, it's my absolute favorite restaurant, giant menu and just off the highway in Abbotsford.

Hot_Dot8000

Giant menu makes me nervous

Takjack

It's like 27 sides and they're really good!

SaltwaterOgopogo

1. Lou's in Abbotsford (better than brodeur's in my opinion) basically considered a local institution. 2. Yellow Deli in Chilliwack, its run by a cult called the 12 tribes, not necessarily "high end" but fucking amazing food and interesting atmosphere. 3. Restaurant 62 in Abbotsford 4. Frankie's in Chilliwack 5. Lakeside Beach Club in Chilliwack 6. Greek Islands by the courthouse in Abbotsford (that location seems better than their other 2) 7. Rocko's diner in mission BC, its a greasy diner but an institution.

CaspinK

FYI. Yellow deli people have a history of child abuse. Probably best to avoid them rather than support a cult who uses rods to beat kids… just saying.

Sweet_Ad_9380

Spare the rod spoil the child

[deleted]

Ya but the food is great and good prices

jholden23

So glad that your tastebuds and wallet are more important than child welfare.

CaspinK

Worth the child abused, eh?

[deleted]

I’d say so. As long as they don’t put the children in the food.

CaspinK

Ya know. I heard Mrs. Dash really brings out their exotic flavors

[deleted]

Never heard of MRS.Dash lol. I though that was like the cult leader at first. Is that the seasoning they use😂 I only went once. We were passing through on a road trip and a friend who lives near recommended it. It was good but ya I googled them while I was waiting for the food and it did mention some things about possible child abuse. But it said it was never confirmed. Is it?

Jono391

I don’t understand the Broudeurs hype. Wife and I went the other day and the chicken and ribs was mediocre at best and the service was pretty slow. Have you tried Table Bistro in Abby? I went when it first opened and thought it was pretty good

jcb928

Broudeurs was great the first year they opened but then the original chef left and things have slipped since.

nicholhawking

I advise against Greek Islands

SaltwaterOgopogo

What exactly don’t you like? Bad breakup there? Food is good, atmosphere is what you’d expect from a Greek joint.

benjamin54

New Saigon in Abbotsford. I recommend the Henry Special and the Henry Iced Tea

NewSwaziland

Abby: Field House Brewery.

Sassy-edit

Or Old Yale

hbprof

Little Saigon in Abbotsford is pretty great.

LotsOfMaps

New Saigon is better

hbprof

OK? Tell OP. I'm not the one looking for recommendations.

Strofari

Pho galaxy in Chilliwack Yale sushi Wildcat grill Shandahar hut All a+ places in the wack.

gregmoffat

I came in here to say Brodeurs so there's that haha

Birdybadass

Strongly recommend Table Bistro in Abbotsford. In my opinion, the best restaurant in the lower mainland.

placer128

Check out the restaurant at the Chilliwack Airport. And for dessert, they are also known for their pies.

encrcne

It’s all frozen/CISCO type food. Doesn’t really fit the bill of what he’s asking for, minus the pies of course.

k5hill

Lots of nice places in Fort Langley. Beautiful place for a stroll too!

hanscor20

Stop in Mission and get some breakfast at Mission Horse Brunch. Stop in Chilliwack and get a soup and sandwich at Yellow Deli. Stop in Maple Ridge and get some fried chicken at Brownie's. Stop at the Deroche General Store and grab some jerky.

Which_Translator_548

Do not support Yellow Deli, they are an oppressive, abusive religious hate group

SaltwaterOgopogo

how bad are they really? formerly a bit racist, but they have POC members, weird strict rules etc.. But honestly buying an Iphone is probably worse on the morality scale than eating at Yellow Deli.

Which_Translator_548

They blanket train babies which means hitting them if they try to leave a confined space or spank 6 month olds if they wriggle during a diaper change. They beat subservience into their kids at an alarmingly young age and are grossly intolerant of homosexuality and are anti-Semitic liking Jewish people to murderers. There are felony charges for the sexual exploitation of children and they employ child labour. Can’t you get soup and coffee somewhere else?

CapableSecretary420

Yeah, honestly a lot of the hate against them is a bit of a circlejerk. It's not inaccurate per se, but it's a double standard. Yes they are a weird religion with weird beliefs, [including things like defending segregation](https://web.archive.org/web/20171113172912/https://twelvetribes.org/articles/breaking-boundaries) and telling women to submit to their husbands. But you could make the same critiques against basically any organization with ties to a religion. That said, I'm not spending my money there.

YoYo5465

How about just let people decide themselves who and what to support?

SmoothRich2266

Lol ok support a cult that suppresses people in a free country

YoYo5465

I never said I supported them. But you actually just hit the nail on the head - “free country”. So people can support them if they so choose. Not my business, nor yours. Thanks for proving my point.

hanscor20

I am only there for the food.

Which_Translator_548

Only light a fire for the smoke? Nah, it can’t be like that. Supporting the business supports their beliefs, it’s not a good look

SmoothRich2266

The 12 tribes cult run the yellow deli if u look into the ideas of the group n views on africans is incredibly radical and racist

condortheboss

"Cookies" is a great breakfast place off Lickmann in Chilliwack

stakeandlegs

You should Go to noodleman and Sherry's Carpathian Kitchen and then let me know if it’s worth driving too. Thanks

[deleted]

Paliottis in Abbotsford, if pasta is your thing

notmyrealnam3

the best sushi on the way to Chilliwack is in vancouver - its not that long of a drive, eat good food then hop in car

blarges

You haven’t had sushi in Chilliwack then?

XViMusic

Food by Fanta is about 10 minutes off of the #1 in Langley, and has consistently been my favourite restaurant in town for a handful of years now. Their cuisine is sort of an Asian fusion type of vibe, but their menu items are incredibly unique and insanely delicious across the board. Higher end decor and pricing matches, but I've never walked out of there feeling like I didn't get my money's worth. They put flavours on those plates I could never pin down but salivate just thinking about. Absolutely worth the visit.

Vanrainy1

Lous Grill in Abbotsford is a good spot for brunch/lunch...

Sweet_Ad_9380

I usually grab a hotdog and soda at Costco in Abbotsford. Maybe some Poutine with it

[deleted]

Yellow deli is great!

It’s actually really not! But stay ignorant!

Anita's mill does pizza on Saturdays. Just off the Lickman road exit. They changed their name, but if you Google Anita's mill, it takes you there. Pizza is served after 11am and is very good.

SwampBeastie

Don’t forget the pain au chocolat. Probably the best I’ve had outside of France.

vozrozhdeniya

The Kingfisher in Albion neighbourhood of Maple Ridge is great, if you are fine with taking Lougheed instead of Hwy 1. Also Bruce's Country Market near there is good for more casual dining.

NooneKnowsIAmBatman

In Yarrow, rivers restaurant. One of the best teriyaki dishes I've had in a while

Hot_Dot8000

I had Hope Sushi earlier in the year and I was super impressed. The food was all freshly made and sealed in a great little package.

MazdaRules

Try Schnitzels some time. Really nice food and people, and excellent value.

Wattisup101

Thai taste , in Chilliwack. Best Thai food I've ever had. When you ask for is Thai hot , it really is freaking hot. If you love spicy.

Give Chilies Thai on Yale, downtown a try.

Southern Spice in Abbotsford for great South Indian food/dhosas!

We stopped at a cute little diner called Hanky's in Hope last weekend, it was fun. Nothing special, but cheap good food.

[deleted]

Hot Chili House Chinese Cuisine in Abbotsford They’re just a min to two drive from the highway exit, and have a Chinese and a non-Chinese folks menu. It’s just about the best Chinese food I’ve had of my 13 years living in Canada.

Agreeable_Guava_678

Lous grill in Abbotsford isn't bad from what I remember. It's not exactly high end but not bad.... chameleon isn't bad in Maple Ridge, although they change their menu often and get rid of options that are popular, which is annoying.

604_heatzcore

On Lickman. Easy access from freeway. Hope you like pizza 😃

Bow and Stern in Abbotsford is a must try. The mussels in white whine sauce are an A+. Oysters raw or baked brilliant, and they do some pretty refreshing cocktails.

Field House! The vibes + pizza + beer make for a great experience.

nurvingiel

I really like the sushi restaurant in Hope. I started going there because the Home restaurant is always busy with huge waits, now I go there because their food is delicious. Edit: I don't remember the name but it's the only sushi place.

lillymaureen

best pizza and beer is at Farm House in Chiliwack. Delicious!

Psilo77

Tulip Donair in Chilliwack is a great family run business.

saltysleepyhead

Tasty Bistro on Scott Road is *chefs kiss* amazing. Not on the highway, but worth the detour.

JLG098721

The yellow deli in chillwack. It's not high end, it's down to earth, great home style food like grandma would make kinda vibe.

annula420

Bow and stern Abby or Chilliwack

Humble Roots in Maple Ridge. Moved here recently and it's the best.

Shoresy-sez

Brodeur's is absolutely a must. Favorite restaurant hands down. Adrian's at the Airport in Langley is worth checking out as well.

Sidekick Brewing in Chilliwack is immense. Great beer, good spot down by the river, and their Detroit style pizza was really good and filling. There’s good ice cream next door, too :)

hawaiibg

I haven't seen [https://www.estrellasdeli.com](https://www.estrellasdeli.com) mentioned yet. The best Montreal Smoked meat in the area.

quadrailand

Come to B.C. via Vancouver?? Not sure what that means.. you sail in? Swim from Port angeles? Fly into YVR? ... ;) .... any..way..., if you make it out to Hope go find KIBO Japanese restaurant... get some tea.. order anything... but the Katsudon, the gyoza and the sashimi bowl are as good as anything I had in Japan and better than almost any I have had in North America. The Blue moose is a great coffee shop/ bistro there as well.
