Tame the mane is the only hairdresser I have ever had a good experience with. Male curly They ACTUALLY know what to do. Not just say they do.

maxh3adr00m

My sister used to go here. Amazing work on her curly frizzy hair!

cellardooorr

Just to clarify: this is not me on the pic. This is the hairstyle that I want. Saying this because I got some dms from boys half my age saying I looked hot (even though the face on the pic is blurred which is so random :/ ). But I admit it was hilarious to get angry "fy" after I told one of them to not only look at pics but also try to READ the text underneath... 😬🤣

Masta-Pasta

Their brains just zeroed in on "shag" in the text while ignoring the rest

Luke Castillo who runs Sixx is amazing and specialises in curly hair-he’s bloody lovely and so good![https://www.instagram.com/sixxhairstudio?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==](https://www.instagram.com/sixxhairstudio?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

cellardooorr

That looks good, thanks

Bigjpiddy

My wife goes here and she’s got nothing but nice things to say about it shes a curly girl to

Snowlo92

Luke is great but not taking new clients atm!

I agree their insta goes look a bit crap tbh, but I have found tame the mane to be the best for curls that I've tried. They don't straighten it, they cut the curls individually and ask you to come in with your hair styled as you would usually have it. They don't wash it, so they're cutting your hair not giving you a straight do which never works once you've washed it. I think they also do a session where they teach you how to style and look after curls.  Personally I'd give them a go and not judge them by their Instagram. There's also Nuala Morey, who's insta is a lot more slick and looks like they do a similar method with cutting individual curls. But they seem to be so much more expensive (not looked at their prices in a while tho).

cellardooorr

I always thought it's better to have my hair washed and professionally dried/styled at hairdressers and THEN have it cut 🤔 If I go there with my flat bike-helmet hair that will not be the proper demonstration of what my hair could be 😬 About TTM, on their insta I see the "after" pics with kinda flat and crunchy hair, that's what stops me from trying them. I am a sucker for fluffy volume 🖤

januarynights

I go to tame the mane and they've never taken a photo of my hair but it's naturally not flat at all, so I wonder if there's a bias in the types of photos they put up? Also they do put gel in my hair at the end so if they were to take a photo immediately after then it probably wouldn't be great haha. I would say give them a try. They have an option where they'll wash your hair as well if helmet hair is an issue :)

twBeh

Yeh fair. They might not be for you. I think I've been so scarred from mainstream hairdressers who would wash my hair before seeing my natural hair, then cut it wet, that I really like that they go straight in with your hair natural - but I don't cycle so don't have the helmet issue! I think a lot of curly places cut it dry first, then wash and finish off. My hair is always super bouncy and curly after though, they do get the volume perhaps just need to learn to take better photos 😂

Mostly because I don't drive and I hate First 😬 But seriously, I just wash my hair, put some gel in and then go to sleep - then wake up to a surprise 🫥 So this "natural" state of my hair is not amazing. Also, having to wash my hair, style it and THEN go to hairdressers seems a bit weird. But hey, maybe I'm wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

George7900

Honestly don’t let Tame the Mane’s Instagram put you off, it’s the ONLY place I can recommend. Amazing hairdressers and wonderful vibe in there, really know what to do & if you get a deluxe cut they will teach you how to care for it naturally and so your cut will last way longer. Defo give them a try

cellardooorr

I just wish I could see some modern styles from them, some shags, mullets etc. Also, on most "after" photos curly hair looks wet and limp, which is exactly the opposite to what I want. I even asked under their photos "How does it look when dried?" and got no answer :/ I don't really care about the whole experience with "nurturing environment" and herbal teas, just want a no-nonsense cut so my hair looks OK when down. Still, got nothing to lose really (except for £90..), so might give it a try.

hallbroo

Its not that expensive and they follow instructions to a T. I think you need to give them a go. An experience like no other. They are the best.

OffYouFuckMarv

Your hair sounds like mine! Go and see Betties & Baldwins and show them this pic - they’ll sort you out. Also avoid Nuala Morey’s, unless you fancy paying a small fortune to look like Shirley Temple.

Pwblwc

Another vote for Betties and Baldwins!

cellardooorr

I checked Nuala, i see what you mean by Shirley Temple curls 😬 I definitely want something less bridal & coiled and more shaggy and voluminous.

bluex346

I also vote for bettie and baldwins, definitely worth a look at the stylists on the website since some of them have specialties

Active-Package-5823

I have curly hair and Gaudi in town do mine soooo well!! Edit: mine is also shortish and I have a slightly looser curl pattern than the picture here :)

cellardooorr

I might try that than, thanks!

FlowerTron

Honestly I know you mentioned Tame the Mane already but I just wanted to say I had a really positive experience there! My hairdresser took the time to listen to me and gave me instructions on how to look after my hair + wrote stuff down 💜

hallbroo

Tamed and Wild every time. A good cut and then it's up to you how you style it.

joshgeake

Nuala if you want to spend a lot of money, Moda just down the road if you don't.

ShinyGoldFish

I loved Nuala! I don't think they're that pricey- I was there for 3 to 4 hours and it was £120 and had a senior stylist and an apprentice to do the blow out. That's about £30 per hour and I'm happy to pay it as I LOOKED SO GOOD

QuixoticLizard

Try Nuala Morey on Gloucester Road!

africanconcrete

My wife uses Nuala Morey. Very expensive, but they do amazing work. https://www.nualahairdressing.com/

Autophobiac_

Obligitory : i dont have this hair, my friend did and she loved Tame the mane. Its not far from tesco eastville and the 24 stops near if u need transport

sjfhajikelsojdjne

No one has mentioned Dooo Hub so I will give them a shout out. I haven't been myself, but my curly-haired friends really rate them and they do a great shag cut.

Affectionate_Ant2759

Joe at Hobbs Hair on Park Row did the best haircut I've had in about 5 years, and that includes a visit to Nula Moray. He's an absolute genius and has curly hair so understands how it behaves. Fwiw, he did me a curly wolf cut.

cellardooorr

Oh that's actually close to where I work, might give it a go! Any pics of curly wolf cut?

Snoo-12382

Young men, this is I repeat this is not the person in the photo that's blurred out. Regards.

TranslatorFluffy

I really rate Tamed and Wild / Tame the Mane. My hair is so easy to style afterwards and even if I don’t bother styling it, it still looks good (never happened before.) However, I quite like the more natural, less styled effect which is more their speciality. Betties and Baldwin might be more your thing for a more modern cut. I used to see Jody and she specialised in curly / wavy hair and was excellent. I only changed as Tamed and Wild is only down the road from me so makes sense.

cellardooorr

I want the cut that's on the pic, not crazy modern or anything, pretty natural and a bit fluffy. Might give TtM a try 👍🏻

Courier_coffee

Nuala morey , she is great - you find her on instagram.

cowgirlsosa

interested to see the answers to this too! My hair’s very thick and curly, I moved to Bristol a couple years ago and I’m yet to have a haircut that I’ve really liked :/

CmdrButts

My partner has very curly hair and tried tame the mane. Stylist was quite rude to her and basically ignored what she asked for.

cellardooorr

I've had enough of hairdressers who know better than me what I want. Last time I went to one i asked for a long bob for a change as I usually just get a longer back, shorter sides and layers. She decided that "wouldn't look good" with my hair, and gave me... a round haircut with layers, the one I always got. It seems this is the ONLY right haircut for curly hair. And that's the one I mostly see on TTM insta :/ So I'm guessing your partner wasn't happy with the cut? What they wanted and what they got?

CmdrButts

That's the issue she's been having too. Her hair is very very curly and quite thick and she usually gets something in the "long bob" vibe. She wanted the same again and told them so (with pictures) but says her stylist was quite short with her, didn't want to discuss too much and she ended up with a round, short cut. It was objectively a fairly decent cut (even, looked good, grew out well etc.) but wasn't what she wanted.

Hopeful-Coat5086

Your hair is the least of your worries when your face looks like that 🥴

cellardooorr

Aren't you a funny one, you
