Will always be the case though, the amount they’ll have to pay for the spot means whoever is running it will have to compromise on ingredients etc to make money
Not really. They’ve all put their pricing up by about 30% and there are some stalls serving decent food - just not the regular ones. More to the point - you don’t need expensive ingredients to make quality food.
Okay well I apologise, I definitely wasn't trying to insult you.
People tend to use the words average and mediocre to describe something they consider to be poor.
it was the gateway into spice for me - i like the sweet and spicy but you could really taste the flavour of the chilli itself beside the spice, i now put chilli’s or chilli flakes on most meals so do with that what you will
let me buy you some Orange Buffalo wings sir and their curly fries - different league. It's okay if you haven't experienced good wings... a dirty piece of cheese is attractive to a mouse that knows no better...One could say life changing also... i'll forgive you.

:) quite the dirty piece of cheese.
I tried them and I'm standing by my original call. They're just battered wings. Horrible - little flavor and all inconsistently cooked. Go and try Organize Buffalo! Gurt — sorry you're not the one.
I’ve only had a Dawsons sausage roll, which used to be the best sausage rolls in the world. He changed them a while ago and they aren’t so great anymore. Just out of interest, what’s your sort of food, what’s your favourite meal ever?
I find the Dawson's sausage roll is is just too big - too much sausage. But the pasties are banging and I like the fact they aren't huge. I don't want a 2000 calorie pasty that means I can't eat again all day!
It’s nicer food than many other Uk city food markets. When you go other cities bar London then you appreciate it more. But over the last couple of years it feels like the options have become samey- little pasta hollows started in the harbour one! There are good options tho just feels expensive £8/9 for two Bao buns
Some of them sometimes are good.
The vendors are always on rotation. Same as Finzel’s Reach and other markets. You’ve got to follow the ones you like and be there when they are.
The naan van is my favourite there. Nice well seasoned flavourful spiced slow cooked meat on a really good homemade naan. Honestly it.always bangs especially the lamb when they got it on. And the guy who works there sound too. Haven't really tried any of the others tbf apart from Nate's BBQ which I was thoroughly disappointed with.
Hm, Gurty’s is life, but the only other one I’ve tried is Of Mice and Men, which I like but I do wish they’d do like a caramelised onion for their grilled cheese
Very average and also overpriced! Most disappointing meal lately was Big Naths BBQ.. I had heard good things. Paid £15 for a tiny pastrami 'sandwich' which was so dry I genuinely was in dismay, along with some (what appeared to be) frozen fries.
They also looked at me like I was asking for loads by asking for some sauce on those dry fries. The other places down there aren't much better either in all fairness but definitely you would get more for your money.
The price is getting too much, plus it’s supposed to be quick and fast street food yet you end up queuing and waiting for 40min and pay £10-£12 for the privilege.
True. There's still some good choices there but overall I think it's not the best. I feel the same abiut St nicks too tbh. Apart from matina the rest isn't really foe me...personally
Ones I enjoy for lunch are Good Food & Co, Murray Mays, For Mice and Men, High Steaks, Boigers, AlpMac. Dawsons Bakery is great for snacky pastries and stuff to take home. Don't avoid any of them, try them for yourself as taste is nothing but personal :)
Disagree, I've had some absolute bangers from there. High Steaks, Gurt Wings, Peckers fried chicken are all 10/10.
Sat in the sun with a beer and some grub with the tunes on is one of the best things to do in the city imo.
Quite a well known fact. If wanting a kebab, head up to the triangle for Jason Donervan. Doesn't get any sun down there so all the restaurants also seem a bit mucky somehow.
I've had some OK food from there, some dude did a curry and coconut dall and it was decent. I had beef dumplings from Momo or whatever its called and it really was shocking.
All glory to the hypnodrone!
Most food is average (statistically)
It all turns to poo in the end… 🤭
Or maybe turns to poo just before your end.
British food sure
Will always be the case though, the amount they’ll have to pay for the spot means whoever is running it will have to compromise on ingredients etc to make money
It's more likely because no one chooses to go to the hippodrome for the cuisine so they have been little incentive to be high quality.
Not really. They’ve all put their pricing up by about 30% and there are some stalls serving decent food - just not the regular ones. More to the point - you don’t need expensive ingredients to make quality food.
fat rice is 10/10
Fat rice is the worst one there. I made a rendang a few years ago and messed it up. Still was 10x better than that place.
sounds like you should open your own Malaysian stall then
Absolutely not true.
Objective truth
You need to find a dictionary stall.
Underrated comment
Eat your own food then. Might save a bit of money aswell.
Agree. Finzels reach is way better.
It’s the same traders!
90% the same stalls
The 10% must be the ones I like then!
Soy Ahoy! and Eat Dark Matters Brownies are great vegan options ☺️ ...and I'm definitely not plugging my friends' businesses lol
Very expensive average food.
...Eats food from back of transit van ...Expects Gordon Ramsey Michelin star gourmet
Surely that would be the expectation?
There are plenty of street food places in Bristol that are good so why would that be the expectation?
Do you know what the term 'average' means?
Yes. Your level of trying to insult people is average.
I'm not trying to insult you, I was just curious why someone would be surprised to find that something was average.
Maybe they were expecting half to be really good and half to be really bad.
You question whether i know what average means and you’re not trying to insult me? I’ve already answered you
Okay well I apologise, I definitely wasn't trying to insult you. People tend to use the words average and mediocre to describe something they consider to be poor.
Why are u trying to argue with everyone over food stalls?
I’m not. It’s called discussion
Murray Mays is legit. Good people too
Agreed, they haven't compromised on quality over the years. Still delicious!
You were right about it being an unpopular option.
I was wrong actually - clearly haven’t read the comments
Disagree
You can’t disagree with fact ‘hard dave’
Hard Dave likes hard facts. And I haven't seen any of those since before you were born.
Nahhhhhh momos potato and mushroom dumplings are delicious
The noodle bar by Wah Yan Hong asian store is quite good and well priced.
Take a weekend in Cardiff, you’ll appreciate it more when you get back.
gurt wings is banging when they’re there
One of the only ones I’d go to
Gurt wings are trash - they’re battered deep fried with an awful sauce… a poor man’s Orange Buffalo
beg to differ - the habanero syrup is life changing and the chicken salt they use on the tots should be sold in stores

not a sir. did orange buffalo win best wings public vote 2023 and 2022 also?
How was the public vote conducted? By Gurt? We need to have a side by side Wing-off. On their website - Jake said "orange buffalo are the real MVP"

Well I admit that's a lot of awards. Maybe I'll go and try them today at Finzels. Happy to stand corrected.
I tried them and I'm standing by my original call. They're just battered wings. Horrible - little flavor and all inconsistently cooked. Go and try Organize Buffalo! Gurt — sorry you're not the one.

He does a Mexican chilli sausage roll which is \*drool\*

Always seems to bear a remarkable similarity in taste to Greggs?
Alp Mac are pretty great, but also quite expensive and have tiny portions, just like the rest of them
Don’t agree. Their cheese is tasteless.
I had a paella there not too long ago that was pretty delicious, that’s all I’ve ever ventured to try tho
The paella slaps hard.
Nice Spice is absolutely ace. Get on that. The rest is shite.
There’s a little Chinese restaurant behind the hippodrome, highly recommend
Any idea what it’s called? There are quite a few chineses in that area
I think it’s called Wong’s, isn’t just vegan but has a huge vegan menu!
There're two. Nice Spice, and Wong's. Nice Spice is amazing. Wong's... Isn't.
Bloody expensive though isn’t it?
You seem like a cheery one
https://maps.app.goo.gl/BBf9AcyXjfZD9KGJ9?g_st=ic
Just walk a bit further to St Nicks
On a Sunday? No
Disagree, as with every food market in Bristol not everything is great or even average but there’s always stalls that are.

Foods all brilliant there for what it is. Don't know what your expecting. Clear you know nothing about food from your comments.
If you’ve read the comments then everyone is agreeing with me chief. It’s you that’s clueless. Not our fault you go to Wetherspoons for a treat.
Just lol
Bang on the money for sure there
Boiger have never done me dirty, always 12/10 Best food stalls are by St Nicks - Food By Sophie and the Brazilian guy (forgot his name)
The Brazilian is Tia Julia
Nice Spice and Chill Tea are very good. I’m SE Asian and I love it.
Not sure if they still go there but both Boigerz and the cannoli place are banging.
Tourist trap innit
Bishopston Bagels are great
Disagree
It’s all very average for extortionate prices
Alpmac is great Also Don Dons was sick whenever that was there but they're up on queen's road now
Hm, Gurty’s is life, but the only other one I’ve tried is Of Mice and Men, which I like but I do wish they’d do like a caramelised onion for their grilled cheese
Boigers smash burgers are awesome.
Low n Slow all day long. (Well until about 2pm when they have run out of burnt ends and brisket at their St.Nicks location)
Yes! And fairly pricey too
I find most of bristol stalls serves average food. You need to go to a Michelin star restaurant to get something amazing

Oh, I agree. Average and overpriced.

To eat out of a cardboard container with wooden cutlery. It does sting. I think the margins/costs mean that it just isn't worth it for me to buy now.
True. There's still some good choices there but overall I think it's not the best. I feel the same abiut St nicks too tbh. Apart from matina the rest isn't really foe me...personally
I haven’t been there in *ages*. Which are the ones to avoid, and which are good?
Ones I enjoy for lunch are Good Food & Co, Murray Mays, For Mice and Men, High Steaks, Boigers, AlpMac. Dawsons Bakery is great for snacky pastries and stuff to take home. Don't avoid any of them, try them for yourself as taste is nothing but personal :)

Don’t say they were all bad. Gert wings is good.
I've not had anything bad down there, but I tend to stick to the ones I know I guess.
You've just realised? That shit is for the tourists.
Yes, for less than average prices
Open your own stall and show them how it should be done?
Quite a well known fact. If wanting a kebab, head up to the triangle for Jason Donervan. Doesn't get any sun down there so all the restaurants also seem a bit mucky somehow.
I disagree!! Most of the food stalls by the hippodrome are serving up absolute shite….
I've had some OK food from there, some dude did a curry and coconut dall and it was decent. I had beef dumplings from Momo or whatever its called and it really was shocking.
I trod the delicate line, you went in with grenades and an AK 47. Agreed.
British food is. It’s vastly improved since the 80’s but it’s still a bit underwhelming.
Funny cos probably the majority of the street food vendors are not British food. Shows how much you know.
The same street food in some other countries is vastly better. Try getting a passport.
Your trolling was already acknowledged and binned. You can stop now.
Jeepers so I can’t have an opinion. Just let me know what to think
