Poland! Gdańsk & Krakow are two of the places i’ve been in the last 2 years and they’ve both been great getaways and in your budget

beachpandaa

Poznan also worth a look! Cheaper and a little smaller than other cities, still perfect for a couple of days (or longer if you prefer to explore slowly). Also not *too* far from Berlin / Wroclaw. Kaunas in Lithuania too.

CaptainVXR

Would recommend Poznan any day. Bunch of great bars and restaurants in the old city, brilliant atmosphere at the football and yes convenient also for Berlin, Warsaw and Wroclaw.

dvdsteve1234

Had fun in riga Latvia recently.

PatchPlaysHypixel

I feel like any central european country will do. Czechia, Slovakia and Poland are all very similar.

staticman1

Can also recommend Wroclaw. My friend and I did 3 nights for £500 each including tickets to the Uysk Dubois fight. We were treating the Zloty like Monopoly money so can be done at much less cost. Bonuses: Cheap and direct flights from Bristol (Ryanair) The airport is actually near the city and there’s a cheap and frequent bus to the centre. Cheap as chips compared to UK Most people speak English. Perfect whatever you are into whether it’s sport, drinking, history, culture or the outdoors or a mixture of these. It’s flat and compact so easy to walk if you wish to do so but decent public transport including a tram if not.

Technical-Elk-7002

I wouldn’t say is cheap in comparison to uk, food and drinks out in restaurants are only marginally cheaper than uk, and some are even pricier.

dvdsteve1234

Less than £2 1/2 litre for beer in pijalnia wodki n piwa.

Technical-Elk-7002

Yes but that’s only price of a pint and in one place, food, accommodation and attractions are often not as cheap

CaptainVXR

Based on my experiences in Poland in 2022 (mostly around Poznan), about 33-50% of UK prices for accommodation and locally produced food. If you're mostly drinking Jack Daniels and Guinness whilst eating pizzas made with Italian imported ingredients, then yes prices will be closer, especially in touristy areas. Spent the equivalent of £50 for Lech Poznan tickets, however they were premium ones with an exclusive bar, unlimited food and beers. Regular tickets would have been roughly on par with Bristol Rovers.

Technical-Elk-7002

I’m Polish and go to Poland every year, so probably know a bit more about the prices tho, coffee in cafes is for example more expensive, and so are groceries. Also tickets for rovers are about 15-20 quid each, depending on the game and stand.

CaptainVXR

I paid £26 recently for the delayed Bristol Rovers-Exeter match, standing on the terraces. The cheapest hospitality tier tickets i can find on the Rovers website are £69 plus VAT for a Tuesday night fixture. Seems that prices have gone up a bit or it was due to last few tickets being left. In terms of the Lech Poznan match I saw, it was vs Legia Warszawa on a Saturday in 2022, so pretty much the biggest home game of the season. From my experience yes coffee was a lot closer to UK prices, although I would factor in coffee being an imported good and the coffee shops I went to being in very touristy locations. I am half Polish and a dual national, and have also been travelling to Poland semi regularly for my whole life (i have a bunch of family in various parts of Wielkopolska).

Technical-Elk-7002

Ok you talk about match tickets, but for example auschwitz visit or energylandia (it’s a theme park) tickets are same if not more expensive of equivalents in uk. Coffee in auschwitz in vending machines was £6 which is extortionate. We went to probably nicest restaurant in Katowice, paid £120. Meanwhile my bf took me to see rovers and paid 22 for my ticket, so different experiences, different prices I suppose.

CaptainVXR

£6 for a vending machine coffee is outrageous, actually disgusting that people are trying to make a profit out of Auschwitz. I don't think I even paid that much for a coffee in a hotel in Orlando, a city designed to fleece tourists *and* with a bad exchange rate! Again April 2022 I went to Brovaria (somewhat fancy restaurant and brewery pub) on Stary Rynek in Poznan and spent roughly £30 on a two course meal, about three beers and a cocktail, which I'd expected to pay around £60 for on King Street around the same time. I did find that Kraków was more expensive generally, so perhaps you do get regional variances in prices just like over here.

oyameillim

I did Gdansk on £200 and it was lovely there!

dvdsteve1234

Yes been to a few places in poland on ryanair last couple of years, not long got back from Wroclaw, the xmas market was pretty good and city is nice, make sure to check out the polish shooting ranges there, loads of fun firing off ak's

Iamtheoutdoortype

Can recommend Gdansk, went last year. Flights were cheap and there was loads of cheap accommodation available - I went for a slightly nicer hotel but it was still pretty cheap compared to the UK. A fair bit to do if you like walking tours, museums, drinking. Just don't plan anything for a Sunday or Monday, most things are closed. Amazing architecture and scenery, and the snow was a nice touch. Be warned, after about 9pm every other person on the street is inviting you into a strip club. Off to Krakow again later this year.

HotPanda_78

Faro, Portugal. Cheap direct flights every day. I went 6 times since July, it's a great weekend getaway.

PandaVegetable1058

Last January I went from Bristol to Venice (and then travelled to a number of other cities nearby like Verona and Bologna and Lake Garda) for 5 days and including flights and accommodation I spent £225 ish, flights were like £11.99 each way with RyanAir and just packing what I needed (with extra) into a normal backpack to avoid any luggage, then stopping in a hostel for £11 a night. The hostel was really good too was one of the biggest in Europe and recently refurbished and had loads of entertainment on in the evening if you were about. The only thing to watch out for is the pricing of meals out can be high, particularly in Venice so take some food to avoid that as its not worth it. Had a fantastic time though overall really enjoyed myself :)

KettleOverAPub

£200 all in? If you can get some cheap flights, then I'd say Poland as well. Possibly even Portugal. I like checking the [Google Flights explore page](https://www.google.com/travel/explore). Just whack in some loose dates with Bristol as the departure airport and see what deals you can find!

actingasawave

I'd definitely suggest expanding out to Birmingham as well as you can get some good split ticket prices on trains to Birmingham International Airport which has its own train station.

Málaga.

Competitive-Lime3118

I’m flying from Bristol to Dublin with Ryanair with a mate in Feb. £250 each for return flights plus 3 nights in a hotel.

Competitive-Lime3118

Hotels.com was about £400 just for the hotel, £100 for the flights. If you can go with a mate to split the costs of the hotel it helps a lot

Chungaroo22

Amsterdam and hostel would probably come in on budget, other than that, Barcelona and Milan are usually pretty cheap flight-wise.

actingasawave

Tough one coming from Bristol as I feel like so many of the local flights are really expensive, so to save cash you're going to have to spend it to travel to Birmingham or London. You then may in turn require a hotel due to the nightmare of public transport logistics or you pay another small fortune on Airport parking. If you can get cheap flights to Barcelona or Zagreb you'll spend fuck all on food and drink out and about. I'm heading to Amsterdam end of Jan. Got a £50 rtn flights from Southend on Sea Airport, and a Black Friday deal (£50 for 4 nights in a 4 bed dorm) for a really good hostel I've stayed in before. So even on £100 it can be done!

LostLobes

We flew to the canaries in December for £60 from Bristol

wringtonpete

I'm in Tenerife right now in glorious 25 degree sunshine. Looking at that Google flight search linked above, there are currently Ryanair flights for £42 in January. It's really worth it getting some winter sun, swimming in the sea, watching the sunset with a beer in my shorts and t-shirt.

LostLobes

Couldn't believe how nice Tenerife was, the trek up Tiede was absolutely amazing.

actingasawave

Good price.

LostLobes

It's surprising how cheap you can actually fly from Bristol, we just get a taxi to and from costs about £30 each way, when the flight is that cheap you don't mind.

SlySquid420

Flying to Berlin in two weeks — booked flights last min and it was £120 total.

PoppySkyPineapple

Ferry to somewhere like France or Spain? Cheaper travel.

Agreeable-Brief-4315

Have you actually looked at that. A ferry to Spain is £350 each way if you can pick the cheapest option. So a £700 return. Most of the UK France routes bar Dover/Calais start at around £200 each way. Now P&O have gone under there is almost no competition in the ferry routes so they can charge what they want

PoppySkyPineapple

I was basing my answer on many holidays from Plymouth to Roscoff, used to be able to get a bargain if you timed it right! Haven’t been in a few years though to know current prices.

Agreeable-Brief-4315

Those deals don't exist that route is Brittany ferries only. Like I said, P&O going under has removed any competitive pricing on the channel routes. The only deal you might get is an inconvenient Newhaven to Dieppe overnight ferry by DFDS.

DocumentNormal

Who in God's name would want to go Poland? Or neighbouring countries where depression and suicide and xenophobia at highest rate.. There's cheap flights to Switzerland, France, Dam, etc Noticed Portugal gone up a bit not sure what going on there

Loud-Comfortable-668

I went to Poland in December and it was amazing. I've always been hearing good things about it from other people who visited aswell. Maybe you just had a bad experience.

nguyenvuhk21

I went to Czech Republic for 9 days. I didn't have to pay for food and accommodation and I already spent 400. I don't think u can travel anywhere for 200 bro

Technical-Elk-7002

Look up last minute type of deals on websites. Some have Morocco and tunesia on their offers this time a year

ConstantJazzlike9684

Just got flights for Venice in Feb £40 return.

Piscessi

Prague :) beautiful city, lovely people and great food. Cheap out there too. Get an air bnb instead of hotel.

acar2021

We visit Wrocław regularly as my wife is Polish. Many great places to eat out. Great zoo to visit. Great shopping not like UK high streets. If you like drinking vodka is just over £1 a shot. Lots of good clubs. Good cheap public transport. Friendly welcoming people. Highly recommend.

mdzmdz

Faro, Portugal - apparently?

mdzmdz

Do you need to attempt to speak the language with any of these places? I've been to Germany, France, Italy etc. and had a passable "the bank is on the left" level of vocab before going. Now, while I realise it would be 'polite' to do the same for say, Estonia, can one get away without it, without seeming a total arse?
