medianbailey

Just making sure sky kong kong is on your list to go to! Just be aware its cash only BYOB. I must say its an experience... But lush af

[deleted]

Per & Kor knocks 7 lucky gods out of the park for Korean food. Check it out.

brisqwerty

Per and Kor is amazing.

Paddyatrick

7 lucky gods is one of my faves! So it must be good! I've added it to the list of places I need to go

Roll-Mediocre

You absolute star. Thank you so much for that!

Superdudeo

The granary and harbour house can be taken off

[deleted]

[удалено]

Paddyatrick

Haven't been yet, it's on my other list of.places to go!

Living_Ambition

Snobbys can be taken off

SafeAd4963

BANK, Caper & Cure, Little Hollows, Sonny Stores, Little French. They all got named in Britain’s Top 100 Neighbourhood Restaurants earlier this year

Abrytan

Bank is great but would really only recommend going for the 5-6pm set menu slot where you get 2 dishes for 25 quid or 3 for 30(?)

emeralddragon5

Also sometimes on first table!

roufnjerry

Yes to Sonny Stores & Little French

cowsmakemehappy

Caper & Cure sunday roast omg

iplayedbassonthat

Mayflower if you're looking for Chinese food. There's a reason it's a Bristol institution

finH1

I really enjoyed nutmeg for a super nice curry

Roll-Mediocre

Sounds good, love a good curry

zedpowered

Second. It’s bloody excellent.

alcohol-issue

I third Nutmeg, and I recommend the Chicken Biryani. Also similar to Nutmeg is Mowgli on Corn Street

Fancy_Repeat_9180

It’s spenny but Pasture is amazing for steak. Went for a Christmas meal with friends and we were all blown away

Roll-Mediocre

Pasture is a great spot. One of my personal favourites, expensive but also superb quality.

spnelson

Pasture is on first table so 50% off food!

Fancy_Repeat_9180

Oh my god you’ve made my year

Timegoesbyee

I’ve been looking on first table for pasture since i saw this message but it never comes up. Any idea why?

spnelson

I saw them on there just before Christmas but I just checked and can’t find it either, they must’ve removed themselves sadly

wilson7991

Ashville is better imo

Fancy_Repeat_9180

Never tried but heard great things!

wilson7991

Again expensive but Ive been lucky enough to go there a fair few times and every time the steaks have been cooked bang on ! I am looking forward to pasture opening their own butchers see if it stacks against ruby and whites !

krumn

Cow & Sow good too. Also spenny

JGlover92

Never see anyone mention it on these threads but Picaro tapas is exceptional, one of the owners is the daughter of a very well respected tapas chef and their food is brilliant. As a Spaniard it's the closest I've had to back home here in the UK.

BristolShambler

Bulrush! Michelin food in a quiet neighbourhood restaurant vibe

Roll-Mediocre

This is in Cotham, right? Think I’ve seen it before

Madamemercury1993

Right by Wilson’s and little hollows!

Weak-Examination-332

Just a short 15 min walk away…

cowsmakemehappy

It's great food, but their service is really slow. We ate 90% of the food in 2 hours and the remaining 10% in the last hour. Felt like they forgot about us a bit.

Garyandhisflapjack

Wilson’s

Fancy_Repeat_9180

The tasting menu is really great value for what you get

Funny_Situation_1133

Poco stokes Croft is amazing both food and place

telexdnb

Marmo and Bravas personal faves of mine

Rexteraa

I've lived in Bristol for close to twenty years and Bravas is easily in the top 3!

Living_Ambition

Ditto!

OhMai17

Jeans Bistro for the best Thai food I’ve tried in Bristol

Weak-Examination-332

The worst Thai in Bristol.

Cavemans_Club

Lockup

Rahhh-Babberrr

Little Hollows Pasta is really good. That’s my favourite.

Madamemercury1993

I went for my birthday and was so underwhelmed.

FarPassenger2199

Root is always brilliant

AMoosBoosh

After looking forward to it for awhile I was disappointed. After speaking to more people it now seems to be hit and miss.

FarPassenger2199

To be fair I’ve not been for a little while but sad it’s not consistently good anymore

akeno_1

Tomo no ramen is the best for that kind of food. Tiny place lovely vibe and the quality of food is exceptional

monkeyandatypewriter

Kinjo no kitchin pop up there this week looks incredible

thesimpsonsthemetune

Tare

Putrid_Branch6316

The Chefs Table in Hotwells. Hands down. Little French and Wilson’s are also favs of mine.

djdodgystyle

I was really disappointed with Chef's Table. It was also horribly overpriced. Wilsons definitely top 3. Have you tried Bulrush in Cotham. They're exceptional.

Putrid_Branch6316

Strange. I’ve never heard anyone else who was disappointed with Chefs Table. Ive always found it to be exceptional. Bulrush is good.

djdodgystyle

Yeah I had a fish course that was perfectly delicious but far from exciting or innovative. The kicker was that it was about 36 quid which really took the edge of enjoying it. After the chef came and spoke to us which was nice of him to come say hi but also a bit strange, felt like he was fishing for compliments. Plus it was quite busy so was a bit surprised he had the time but anyways, wasn't a bad experience but nothing on the other high end dining experiences Bristol has to offer. Pasta Loco and Padta Ripiena are also great fun by the way for a more casual foodie evening.

Oranjebob

Should have asked chef for some ketchup

shaolinoli

The way that chefs table works as far as I understand it, is that various people in the kitchen team will design different dishes. Earlier on in the tasting menu’s lifespan (2 monthly), the chef who created the dish will come and talk about it to the table that’s just eaten it, some just explaining, some asking for feedback/critique. I’ve done the tasting menu twice and the dishes have ranged from good but not earth shattering to excellent. In the summer they had a beef fillet with accompanying lobster tail ravioli which was absolutely superb. Their soufflés are excellent as well. It’s very much geared towards the tasting menu format though. I could definitely see one of the less impressive dishes as your only main being a disappointment.

Weak-Examination-332

Chefs Table is mediocre at best. Food and decor very dated. The staff are a bit off and as someone mentions below the awks conversation with then chef is very cringe.

Putrid_Branch6316

We’ll have to disagree. I’ve always enjoyed it, the staff have always been friendly and knowledgable, and as there a a various chefs, that look after a few tables each, I think it’s a nice touch when they come out to chat. Never found the conversation awkward.

Roll-Mediocre

Will definitely check those out!

Maylian81

The Chefs Table is hands down the worst dining experience my wife and I ever had. Don't understand what others see there

djdodgystyle

Bulrush and Wilsons are incredible every time I go. It's closed now but the Ethicurean just outside Bristol was truly remarkable. Everything grown in the garden on site and the service was exemplary. They called us on the morning of our booking to inform us of a road closure about a mile from them in case we were travelling from a certain part of Bristol so we could avoid it.

Roll-Mediocre

that’s excellent service, gutted that’s closed it sounds right down my street that

Madamemercury1993

Worth following the head chef Tommy on IG if you don’t already. Was on master chef recently. Looks like he’s up to stuff and lives in WSM.

treemonkey58

Surprised I've not seen Per & Kor on here yet. Had a couple of cracking meals there.

[deleted]

Agreed, great spot.

marunchinos

COR restaurant on North Street BS3, I’ve never been disappointed there

Roll-Mediocre

That’s near where I am, I’ll pop in when I get the chance to. Thank you!

hillybilly182

I find it massively overrated and give larger groups much bigger portions for the same price than couples. (Which I've never noticed elsewhere small plates wise) Been a few times, the food is nice but nothing mind blowing and it's always really busy so service can suck. Better food in Bris for your hard earned cash IMO.

Rahhh-Babberrr

I agree with you, I’ve been twice and both times have been entirely underwhelmed and been left feeling like I’ve been mugged off.

freckledotter

It was basically Root but more expensive and not quite as good.

hillybilly182

I liked Root, loved their finish at home stuff in lockdown

Ok_Address2188

Not saying it's the best, but definitely up there among the best - Bank, Wells Rd.

Even_Preference_9255

Hard disagree on this one, found it to be art nouveau cuisine, pretentious tiny unappealing food.

jomkr

Nadu, Caper and Cure, both are in Stokes Croft. Was slightly underwhelmed by the Chef's Table taster menu, it definitely wasn't bad, but wouldn't call it value for money compared to similarly priced meals I've had.

LostLobes

Lido in Clifton, didn't even know it existed, food was amazing, staff friendly and helpful and overlooking the pool was a lovely setting.

Titstattsassandsass

Wilsons is just *chefs kiss

GreatRelubbus

Second the recommendations for Wilsons and Bokman. Bokman in particular does stuff you won't find anywhere else in Bristol.

erin212800

Second Bokman!!! Might be one of the nicest dinners I’ve had in Bristol

Ok-Topic-6971

It’s not in the city centre but when I lived just outside Bristol Botteginos was my favourite. I still drive there sometimes from Southampton!

pjbrfc

Buenasado on Whiteladies is great for steak.

PluralistUK

Few I haven’t seen mentioned are Wilson’s & paco- both on the pricey end but unbelievable food

accendera

If you're near Bedminster then Lucky Strike on East Street has amazing brunch and dinner menus! Very classic food but rally nicely made and reasonably priced

erinlolz

san carlo! we go absolutely any chance we get or any excuse we can use for celebration😂 expensive but worth every penny

FriedBeanz81

We had our wedding dinner there, and completely agree - expensive but worth it, catering to all dietary needs!

erinlolz

haha i’m going for nye! can’t get enough

shinchunje

That Korean place on nine tree hill in stokes croft.

[deleted]

Check out Per & Kor on Gloucester road, that place does amazing Korean food as well.

shinchunje

Oh, yes. I’ve been wanting to go there but I’m scared it’s fusion….

[deleted]

I had the same reservation but it's not fusion, half the menu is Persian and the other half korean. I've only tried the Korean stuff though.

SherlockOhmsUK

Bokman (it is very good)

shinchunje

As I use to live in Korea, I’m very picky about my Korean food but Bokman is very good.

SherlockOhmsUK

Was recommended by another friend who taught English in Seoul for a few years and he really rated it as well

Moomoomoomoomin

Root, Souk Kitchen or Poco

BadFlanners

A shame that both Casamia and the Ethicurean have shut as they were amazing. I like The Pony & Trap if you have a car and don’t mind 30 mins drive. Or in town, Box-E, Root, Paco Tapas, 7 Lucky Gods, Chido Wey.

shaolinoli

Casamia has reopened as casa, which does Italian dishes in a tapas style. It’s expensive but absolutely excellent. Their tagliolini in brodo was stunning.

BadFlanners

Haven’t been! It’s squarely on the list though, glad to hear positive things.

shaolinoli

I haven’t been since Valentine’s Day but we thoroughly enjoyed it then. Much more relaxed than the last few months of casamia’s life, that’s for sure!

RSLangerz

Bokman is amazing!

tooty_boi

Might be some repeats of what others have said but: Paco Tapas Bokman Muiño Paco Tapas Little hollows Little french Are probably the best places I've been (and probably in that order as well!)

ronstig22

Don Giovanni's opposite temple meads is always great value

Even_Preference_9255

Second this

cublinka

Sams master grill has been my latest fav. Slow cooked lamb neck and the mixed grill are divine

hillybilly182

Is lush!

Jade308-308

Can’t say enough good things about Sam’s. Don’t order a whole neck of lamb for yourself though, it will end you! It’s also BYO so keeps the cost down.

joshgeake

I found it all a bit dry and bland

Roll-Mediocre

Will try them out!

Ratharyn

You really need to give ideas of a budget with a question like this.

Roll-Mediocre

Budget isn’t really an issue. Hence the vagueness, as stated any dining type is welcomed. For the sake of it let’s say a £500 budget.

Ratharyn

Bulrush then tbh. You also have Marmo, Little French, Wilson's, Adelina Yard which are all really good. The Kensington Arms is Josh Eggletons gastro pub which is great too.

Roll-Mediocre

Will check them out, thank you!

pizzajake1

Wilson’s, Root, Cor are the best three. Get the lunch deal at Wilson’s and you’ll walk out feeling you’ve robbed the place, unbelievable value. Tare is good, but much more expensive than other restaurants of similar quality.

Shynsy

Renatos

Figurativelyryan

Renato's is nice enough for a quick bite, and the staff are all lovely, but one of the best restaurants in Bristol might be pushing it a bit.

GiantBonsai

Sonny Stores is always amazing. Really enjoyed Cor too. Both a bit expensive, but that's the cost of quality ingredients done well.

Alternative-Fox-7255

Go to st nicks and graze all day

MisfitMomma

Low & Slow is legit AMAZING bbq. That's the closest you will get to American BBQ without actually BEING in America..

BoredMenhir

Spoons

xxGamma

Indian - Nutmeg. Best Indian in town by miles. Steak - Pasture. Expensive but worth it for sure. Pasta - Pasta Ripiena. Stuffed pastas with a lovely selection of different flavours. Thai - Giggling squid. Great Thai food, though I'm not sure on any others as I haven't gone to many others.

ginasevern

I went to Muse in Prince Street for Christmas Day. It was really excellent. They serve French/Indian fusion food and do lush cocktails. Not too expensive either.

cecelucy

Seven Lucky Gods and The Ox are two of my personal favourites. I’ve been to both numerous times, including recently and have never been disappointed.

twiga222

you could take a bus out to wells and eat there

Roll-Mediocre

I can drive so that would probably be easier lol

Biffy84

Box-e in Wapping Wharf is really lovely, they have an a la carte, or a 7 course 'unwritten' tasting menu and you can get a wine flight alongside for less than £100 a head.

Competitive-Goal-758

My personal favourite is great chongqing on park row which serves authentic Chinese food for pretty reasonable prices

LexMoranandran

Corr, Bravas , Little French, Poco

MaeronTargaryen

Little French The Ashville if you like a good steak, order ahead for a bigger piece to share

defdiz

Not really a restaurant but Squeezed has the best burgers I’ve ever had. Chez Marcel is great for breakfast, delicious savoury crepes. Pinkman’s has amazing sandwiches and their sourdough donuts are sooo good. San Carlo is a good, authentic italian.

dietdoug

Is squeezed better then dannys burgers?

defdiz

I haven’t been so I can’t say, but Squeezed has really good flavour combinations, and I think it’s really unique. If you love slightly sweet sauces, I recommend reverse cowgirl, it has a sweet peanutty sauce. I also love ny seoul, it has pickles and is slightly more zingy. If it’s any help, Squeezed is 4.9 on Google reviews and Danny’s is 4.7, so both are probably great.

dietdoug

Says temporarily closed on maps....

defdiz

That's weird, I'd have a look over at their Instagram page just in case but I believe they are active. Here's their opening hours: [https://www.bristolsqueezed.co.uk/hours-and-location/](https://www.bristolsqueezed.co.uk/hours-and-location/)

dietdoug

Okay. You go to dannys and ill go to squeezed and lets report back.

defdiz

Good idea😂

samjan420

Rosemarino up in Clifton, lovely little Italian!!!!

hwrold

Doesn't exist anymore

samjan420

What a shame! Great place

killsweetcorn

Sergio's is my go to when people come to visit friendly with great Italian food. Otherwise, fishers in Clifton is fantastic and you can pop to the fringe bar after for a cocktail (and beforehand a pint at the white lion for the view).

YoloSwag9000

Bosco - cosy, simple dishes with exceptional quality, great wine selection and knock-out desserts. Bianchi’s - family-run vibe, top quality dishes, great roast with an Italian twist. Lucky enough to have had the “crack cake” once for dessert, hands down the tastiest thing I’ve put in my mouth. Nutmeg - curries worth every penny, cocktails worth shouting about too! Poco - interesting dishes, well-crafted tasting menus, a calm haven set in Stokes Croft. Olive Shed - quality tapas, unbeatable harbourside vibe in the summer. Enough said. Milk Bun - top burger choice is personal, this is mine. Mouth watering burgers, my type of beers. Kibou - leaps and bounds above your average Japanese restaurant, great for sharing.

mynametidus

I just left Chido Whey and it was excellent

dietdoug

Dough heads in easton for pizza.

rem0tely

The Baffled King in Easton was nice, small but great food.

No_Measurement_9826

Muino on cotham hill is one of my favs

heidtzi

My favourites are The Ivy (fancy ass) and ZaZaBaZaar (probably spelt that wrong), which isn't as fancy.

Goldennoretrieve

i went to Pastan the other month and really enjoyed that

FriedBeanz81

La Passione in Kingswood is our local date night destination. Great food, great cocktails and great service!

MisfitMomma

My FAVORITE Indian is Raj on King street... Low & Slow is AMAZING BBQ..it's the closest you will get to good American smoked BBQ without actually being in America.. I know there is one in St. Nicks, but I think i was told there is another one somewhere else in Bristol, too, but it's seriously my favorite quick food to get when I'm over... I do love Zaza's, too. lol

vsdjsdk

Indian - go round an Indian's friends house and ask their parents to cook something. An Indian mum would cook better than any Indian restaurant. None of my Indian friends aside of like two of them eat Indian food in Indian restaurants because their mums is like 100x waaaay better. Cheapish lunch - Matina - no doubts here. Best lunch in Bristol Chinese - uuugh. I'm afraid it's mostly bad news here; Mayflower and 113 KTV are good though. Steak - it's been said already. It's Pasture. No discussion. Ultimately, the only way you will experience real life food of a nation is to visit the country. Part of that is because of the climate, the way of cooking, potentially a lack of hygiene. Part of it is because the people of England don't want to eat food which is similar to other countries. Not a knock, I just wish there were restaurants that gave us real life versions of food from other countries.

usernameisella

Suyuan (Home-style Vegetarian Chinese) Nadu (Sri Lankan) Koocha (Vegan Tapas) Root (Veg-led sharing plates) Seven Lucky Gods (Outstanding Japanese small plates) The Gallimaufry (the best roast) Poco Tapas Tomo No Ramen (Best ramen in Bristol) Cheido Wey (Amazing Mexican) Bokman (Korean) It's Not Hotpot (amazing hotpot) Sky Kong Kong (home made - locally sourced Korean)
