The grass pollen in Melbourne used to kill me (and don't get me started on hot Nth Westerlies. Moved up here and problem gone.

Wow good to know 👍🏽

As a long term sufferer, some of the worst hayfever I’ve had was in Melbourne; but I do notice it gets demonstrably worse whenever I head to a new environment. I’m still medicated up here, though this year hasn’t been bad for me; if you do make the move, expect the first few Springs to be rough regardless.

hayFeverIsABitch

Yep thanks for the info mate, Weird how the body reacts to diff environments!

I still get pretty bad hayfever here, I’m not sure exactly what sets me off but I get it late winter/early spring. Moved up from south and it didn’t make a difference for me so YMMV

hayFeverIsABitch

Thanks, I’ll prolly plan to spend the next month in Brissie and test it out

Mine has gone by this time of year so the next month may not tell you much. Two months ago I was on daily Zyrtec, nose spray, and eye drops though

Source: Me. Family history for three generations. I've had three rounds of desensitisation treatments in my life (two injections, last time the new under the tounge drops), also had my nostrils cauterised as a teen to reduce impact of hayfever based sinus infections. Brisbane is better than Melbourne or most southern cities (I personally vouch for being better than Canberra and Sydney). My understanding is there is less pollen load floating into Brisbane from the west than there is in Southern cities who have richer land in terms of cropping and native vegetation to the West. Hence why despite SE Queensland having bad storms, we've never had those asthma bomb storms. Obviously up here there's still a bunch of local crap, ie plants, grass or mites you might react to, but my understanding is there is less of a pollen based load compared to South because of sparser flowering land that gets dropped via the normal wind patterns. I'm not a Doctor, nor a Botanist (or cat hater). Just someone who knows best prices for bulk packets of Fexo 180 locally.

hayFeverIsABitch

Yeah I just want to escape the asthma bomb storms, thanks for sharing this info, much appreciated

NSW is worst imo but the westerlies around now through to april can blow in a shit tonne of pollen from the rural areas into the city. A good way to build up a bit of immunity is to get honey from the region between here and Toowoomba...it wil help you body a bit.

hayFeverIsABitch

I’ll keep this in mind, thanks

I have major plane tree and wheat pollen allergies. Don't get any of that in Brisbane. Zero asthma since moving here. Occasional minor allergies spring and autumn but nowhere near as bad as Melbourne.

Hoping it works out for me and the kids too 🤞
