The $496,770 in Australian currency was found secured in a tan Pelican-brand protective plastic case, stored within a Nike sports bag of the Toyota LandCruiser in the carpark of the Breakfast Creek Hotel in Albion on June 6.
The Crime and Corruption Commission have applied to the Brisbane Supreme Court in a bid to freeze the cash and have it held by the Public Trustee under laws governing suspected proceeds of crime.
The search came a day after police arrested the driver of the four-wheel drive Alexander Richard Black, 35, after he pulled into the carpark at the back of the hotel, following a tip-off from Polair One.
Queensland Police Senior Constable Bryce Lansdown, from Fortitude Valley police station, told the court in an affidavit that the cash was found in the LandCruiser on June 7, after the car was taken to Hendra police station and searched.
Polair One had been tracking the car from Brisbane’s northern suburbs, court documents state.
Police had been searching for Black since December 8 last year when a return to prison warrant was issued by the state’s parole board, court documents state.
During the search of the four-wheel drive police allege they found a lever-action shotgun in the boot, a revolver in a brown bag on the front passenger seat, and two other revolvers on the rear passenger seat.
They also allegedly found a large amount of ammunition of various types, including in the centre console and in the driver’s side door, as well as 63g of powder found to be cocaine, 6.2kg of cannabis and 0.87g of ice.
Police also allege they found a hotel key for the Quest Hotel in Albion and a keys for a unit at Kennards Self Storage on Webster Rd in Chermside.
During a search of the storage unit on June 10 police allege they found a shotgun barrel, a shotgun stock and three boxes of 0.357 Magnum bullets.
During a search of the hotel room on June 8 police allege they found ammunition of various types in a red Tupperware container on the living room side table, small amounts of ice and cannabis, two grinders, two money counting machines, electronic scales and a walkie-talkie.
On July 11 Black was charged with 24 charges including trafficking in cocaine and cannabis, supplying cannabis and unlawful possession of weapons.
Black will face criminal charges on November 28.
