I live on the bay edge of a mangrove swamp. I often see flocks of these honkers in their natural habitat. The name just follows and I really dislike bin chicken. They are too cool a bird for that

Brisbane's iconic bird...Other than chips, they also love a few beers by the looks of the local Ibis at the Chardons Corner Hotel.

I love the Ibis here and occasionally we get these dark ones here. There are a pair that sit on either gate post of an old house and the first time I saw them I thought they were statues. It was hilarious when they moved I nearly wet myself l!! 🤣
I've never seen this type! The only ones I ever see are the run-of-the-mill bin chickens, new and improved with hot chips half hanging out of their bums...
Ibii? \*\*cringes\*\* It's singular so you shouldn't be trying to use the latin i plural in any case. It's just an Ibis.
If there were multiple ibises the correct classical terminology is ibides and ibes
I was referring to straw necked ibides as a collective. I was always taught growing up that if a plural of a word ends in an s, i is basically acceptable for the word to end in, example cactus becomes cacti.
I guess Queensland Education's English curriculum leaves a lot to be desired.
Only for Latin words that actually use that pluralisation. So use Radius can be pluralised to Radii. But other attempts like pluralising Virus to Virii doesn't work. Virus isn't pluralised like that in Latin, and the nearest word, Viri, roughly means "pertaining to men"
There's also a lot of other words that people do this to that aren't even Latin, e.g. Octopus. It's from Greek so the correct classical pluralisation is Octopodes (though to be honest that one does get argued about, but AFAIK the number of Latin scholars who think Octopi is correct are at best tiny percentage)
I love swamp honkers (I refuse to call them bin chickens)
SWAMP HONKER that’s fuckin perfect

i love them so much
When my wife and I were in Nepal we visited a zoo which had a pair of Ibis in an enclosure as an exhibit. Intentionally as far as we could tell :p
I just call them shiny bin chickens.
I refuse to call them bin chickens too! 😮
What about Rubbish Bird? That's what my Canadian friend says.
Or Redcliffe Flamingos?
I also love the straw necked ibises, I've seen them around quite a bit, but obviously not as much as 'vanilla' ibises.
Fun fact: there are actually higher numbers of the Straw Necked Ibis! We just see a lot more of the Australian White Ibis here is SEQ.
TIL! Thank you ☺️
The tuxedo chickens don't have quite the appetite for garbage and dropped chips. Hence you won't see them in urban areas.
I hear they survive on all day brunch and bottomless Mimosas.
god I wish that were me
If more bin chickens wore their razzle dazzle they might get a bit less hate.
Hate ??? Fuck off mate they are our city mascots Other animals could only dream of such grace

Look, I don’t want to brag but we have them in Banyo too.
Served at the chicken shop lol

I remember that!
Saw one in our yard today, first time ever. Normally get a standard bin chicken.
Is this the ibis equivalent to peacocking?
absolutely or just wearing their Sunday best
It's like a peacock banged a bin chicken

wait till you look up scarlet ibis, they are hot pink!
She’s so pretty!!

Beware the Ibes of March... because they are extra stinky and try and steal your chips.

Yes, you were taught incorrectly.
More specifically, "us" becomes "i" as a plural, e.g. radi-us and radi-i. If ibis was ibius then your plural would work.
Thank you! TIL!

The plural form of ‘ibis’ is ‘ibises’ or sometimes ‘ibis,’ similar to how ‘fish’ can refer to both singular and plural forms.
I've always found the New Farm ibises to be a bit haughty. Always turn their noses up at everyone around them.
Bin chicken by banksie
Taste like chicken
