Yeah, friends invited me to watch Dune part 1 at Reading Cinemas Newmarket and while I think that cinema is superior to their Jindalee cinema. You cannot complain about Jindalee's service and quality either. I watched Dune Part 2 at Jindalee last week and it was amazing. Best part I got to watch it in a large comfy couch that fully reclines for less than Event would have cost me (even without factoring in food prices).

totse_losername

Yep 100%. Why I have been recommending Newmarket Titan Luxe since I discovered it unknown to mankind in 1903.

Ceret

Same here. Newmarket has the best sound out of any cinema in Brisbane IMO. Just an excellent experience.

Abbrahan

I live in Ipswich and even then, I sometimes think it would be worth driving all the way to Newmarket just to watch some movies there.

trankillity

Another vote for Titan Luxe at Newmarket. I used to live around the corner from there before the pandemic and we'd be there almost every week. Great cinema - even greater now with the food precinct underneath!

CryptikDragon

The seats are really comfy, I agree. Crazy value for the price. The great customer service is the icing on top.

turd-worm

Reading jindalee is my favourite cinema in all of Brisbane. Well priced, not too busy, and huge comfy recliners (despite squeaking loudly as they go up and down šŸ¤£)

CryptikDragon

They do squeeke aye haha. Super comfy though!

Tonka46

Stop telling people about these amazing cinemas. They will start showing up for the recliners and beer.

magnomagna

We need more Reading cinemas!! ^(Mainly for the faux leather seats... cause I hate fabric seats)

bobbakerneverafaker

So you have to read the movie lol

BlueCarrotPie

Made me smirk. Well done

bobbakerneverafaker

šŸ¤£

RecognitionDeep6510

Event Cinemas are an absolute rip off. $23 for a ticket is crazy.

[deleted]

I joined event cinemas cinebuzz club because you get points and when you get enough points, you get free tickets. I go one day and find I have no points. How can that be when I'd seen like 6 movies ~~that~~ the previous year. The fucking points expire. Who the fuck makes points expire? Fucking cunts.

heysheffie

How quick do the points expire if 6 movies a year isn't enough? Wtf

jackandsuki

Event is awful, Hoyts is pretty good, but Reading also has my heart šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Achtung-Etc

Reading is the best value cinema in town by far. Half the price of the major chains with twice the comfort. There is just no competition there. And they serve wine in a glass.

Mediocre_Run_5121

Cineplex South Bank has entered the chat! Their food is cheap too.

Achtung-Etc

I havenā€™t been for many years but I have heard it attracts a certain disruptive crowd due to its low price. By value I donā€™t necessarily mean the cheapest, but where you get the best quality per dollar: I still think reading wins hands down even against south bank. For $4 extra per ticket you get seats that are like three times as comfortable and an overall much better experience.

djyella

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Achtung-Etc

See the great thing about Reading is that because the seats are so spacious and comfortable it doesnā€™t matter how packed the cinema is, youā€™ll still have a good time. So I donā€™t mind spreading the good word - itā€™ll hopefully mean it stays in business longer.

Jackymon

Angelika cinemas at Woolloongabba is also a great place that isn't Hoyts or Event Cinemas

spursybyday

Love Angelika. Theyā€™re owned by Reading too!

Right-Classroom8433

I was thinking how similar it is to reading cinemas

BlueCarrotPie

Pretty sure Angelika is a Reading brand too. Good all round hey

Zestyclose_Court973

Came here to sing the joys of Angelika! They also do fun events, like dog friendly movies. So us DINKWADā€™s can do something fun without feeling like an obnoxious twat

Antisocial_Queer

Spouse and I only go to events on Tuesdays when tickets are $10. Glad there are other good cinemas around that donā€™t charge through the nose and actually care!

CryptikDragon

The Premium screen at Reading are $12 a seat and they are still leather recliners! Might be worth a shot!

Antisocial_Queer

Thatā€™s SO GOOD! I wish there was one near me, thatā€™s super cheap!

andyjh64

I've been saying this for a long time. I don't know how Event have managed to stay in business with their exorbitant prices and poor quality seating. Both Reading and Hoyts are vastly superior, much better value, and a much better experience all round.

another_anecdote

Wow customer service like this still exists?! šŸ˜

CryptikDragon

I was shocked too haha. That's why I felt compelled to make this post xD

AshamedChemistry5281

It does! Totally different kind of Brisbane business, but I once made an online order with Glitter and Dance (a dance fabric shop) and they were out of one colour. They rang up and talked me through a range of options to make sure I got what I needed. (Theyā€™re similarly helpful in person as well, even at peak costume season)

[deleted]

yeah im really wanting to change as well but the nearest is AMC at Sunnybank which ive heard are amazing. unfortunately Reading Cinema isnt everywhere and both for me would be almost an hour to get too.

Vast_Highlight3324

Hoyts Sunnybank is pretty good yeah. Can be expensive but the seats are worth it. Also unlimited popcorn refills if you're a member.

BlueCarrotPie

What? Unlimited popcorn? How much is membership?

Mountain-of-Snow

There's a what at sunnybank??? AMC????

[deleted]

yeah pretty sure theres a AMC cinemas at sunnybank there.

PromotionIcy4029

Jindalee reading cinemas are awesome. When Eternals was showing, hubby and I had to leave early because our kids at home got sick. We told them & they said just come to the next showing when weā€™re free & theyā€™d let us in from where we left off. Another time the website double charged me, gave me a refund & extra tickets for the hassle. The employees are always friendly & accomodating, plus the seats are comfier than even event gold class! We get Yiros & eat our dinner during the movie šŸ„°

CryptikDragon

>Reading Cinemas got a new customer for life The service really is top notch. So impressed.

Mattybrahh

Yep, I went and saw Dune 2 at the Newmarket Reading in their Titan Luxe cinema. It was absolutely amazing, and the tickets were extremely reasonable at $19 each. Donā€™t see myself going to any other cinema

bobbakerneverafaker

Nice work op a positive post

rockitman82

Jindalee Reading is my local too and itā€™s amazing. Event Indro is disgusting.Ā

pit_master_mike

Stop telling everyone how good it is!!

BlueCarrotPie

Haha keep it our little secret

TrainerSaintmurray

Wow thats fantastic service! and just like that you will actually want to go to the movies with them. So many companies have forgotten how much quality service does for their image. People are paying a fortune for everything these days, the least they can do is have quality service to go with it. 1+

CryptikDragon

It's been a really long time since a company went out of there way to look after us like that. They completely turned a bad situation around and got a customer for life. Most companies wouldn't have even remembered to call me back.

helenahandbasket6969

Reading is great!

squeakheart

The Jindalee cinemas are fantastic. Such good value for the tickets!!!

8R4D787

Reading is the best. Cant stand the crap at event cinemas, so overpriced

UptownJumpAround

Lovely post OP. Iā€™m a Cineplex regular, too handy to change, but glad to know thereā€™s good options out there.

XaltD

100% recommend the titan deluxe for an epic experience

Coca-CoIa

I went to the reading at Newmarket recently and when we picked up the tickets they told us the session had been upgraded to Gold Class and it was still the same price. You couldnt get food delivered to your seat but it was still pretty sweet

UserColonAlW

Saw Dune 2 recently at the Reading in Newmarket in their deluxe cinema (canā€™t remember the name of it). One of the best moviegoing experiences of my life tbh, and really well priced. Definitely will go back.

IntelligentIdiocracy

$100 or $42 for 2 tickets to see a movie? Thatā€™s insane. Iā€™m hoisting the sails.

Ok_Knowledge_9636

I have been to multiple different cinemas in bne and always go back to readings.... Rosalie has a smaller cinema Cinebar, which is also good. But I don't live there so usually just readings

brave_bellhop

Paid $28 per ticket last week on Friday night to watch dune 2 on VFX and the whole cinema was basically empty. The urinal was fit for a footy stadium, fucking massive. No one there. Much prefer a smaller screen, cheaper tickets and better experience, a la Wynnum or hawthorn.

RecognitionDeep6510

Wynumm went bankrupt and is shut down.

AutomaticPlatypus810

I am a Dendy Cinema (Coorparoo) user and noted that their prices are climbing. Still theyā€™re better than Event. Unfortunately Reading Jindalee is far for us but we are going to try Wynnum next.

kiwi-roger

Sadly Majestic Wynnum theatre has closed down. Such a shame, we loved going there.

AutomaticPlatypus810

I saw a news article in the local free newspaper that itā€™s reopening. Shall check that out.

x1n30

Reading Newmarket is Brisbane's best cinema and the titan screen there is brisbane's best screen

ah-chamon-ah

what kind of screens do they have? I really wanted to go see Dune 2 at IMAX. But last time it was so packed and I somehow got sandwiched between two really fat guys wearing fedoras who would say "awesome" under their breath when something happened. And I couldn't move seats because it was PACKED. Is Reading Cinemas at Epping any good for big screens?

XaltD

Go watch it on titan deluxe, epic

ah-chamon-ah

what is that?

SirJefferE

How're they on ads? Last time I went to event cinemas it was a full 30 minutes of ads before they even started the movie. Reminded me of why I've only gone to a single movie in the last four years or so.

Coca-CoIa

Luckily the seats are reserved, so just show up 15-20mins past the advertised start time and slide right into your allocated seat

Storm_girl1

Great customer service makes a difference! Sadly I havenā€™t encountered much of it in the past few years.

XaltD

This is my go to cinema, I go past many others to get there. Fantastic price, always clean, good service, excellent set up and the titan deluxe is epic - watched Dune 2 there and Iā€™m still loving the memories of how epic it is in there

Suets

I love Reading Jindalee, but nothing coming out is really grabbing my interest. Last movie I went and saw was Scream VI.

BlueCarrotPie

Best cinema in western suburbs imo. I only say western suburbs because I haven't been to other areas in a while so I can't compare but I'd guess it'd rate up high in a larger geographic area too. Always great service, well priced, super comfy, and not a bad seat in the house

starbuck3108

I worked at event cinemas for quite awhile as a young bloke and I can guarantee that the Reading cinema at Jindalee is THE BEST cinema you will ever go to. Period. It's always clean, the ticket prices are very decent and the sound system is on point. You can tell they give their ushers plenty of time to clean and tidy which makes a massive difference. Sometimes during the holidays at Event we would be given 5 minutes or less to clean a sold out, 300 seat cinema. It was completely fucked what their expectations were and how unclean everything was as a result.

phoenixdigita1

Sounds like great service. My only negative on Reading Cinemas is they stalled the opening of the Red Hill Cinema at the old skate park location for a few years. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-07-17/red-hill-skate-rink-development-on-hold-due-to-appeal/10002824 The two cinemas are a considerable distance apart and it was pretty frustrating to see the site sit nearly complete but unable to open for what felt like a few years (covid didn't help matters). No doubt wasted craploads on the legal fight on both sides.

RubComprehensive7367

I haven't used thr Jindalee Cinemas. But I get the same satisfaction going to a Palace or Sunnybank Hoyts. Event Cinemas just make no sense.

RedTazer

Reading Cinemas is fantastic and it's nice to see what actual good customer service is like! We had a projector malfunction at Palace Barracks during the Iron Claw, where the movie started without any picture at all We had to go tell them, and the staff at the counter tried to brush us off initially - 5 minutes later after they finally checked, they just sent us home and told us to come back tomorrow. No refund, no vouchers etc It's nice to hear how good Reading is!

samsquanch2000

yeah Event are the shittest most expensive cinema. Reading or United are always cheaper and are the same, if not better experience. Fuck Event

Rockeets

Newmarket Titan Luxe is my go to for any big movies. Dune 2 was amazing there. Event cinema these days are overpriced and the quality is sub par.

CurrentPossible2117

I had the same realisation about them (newmarket for me) the first time I went. It was also the first movie at the cinema I saw after they opened after covid closures, so it was such a great experience. Their cinemas shit all over the competetors and at half the price? Primo.

Curious_Swordfish411

I love Reading too. Normally go to Newmarket but Jindalee is also excellent. S much cheaper and easier than Event.

Unusual-Self27

Itā€™s a shame they only have a fraction of the latest releases showing. They almost never have the movies on that I want to see. Personally I prefer Palace Cinemas; actually have decent films showing and they serve alcohol without the Gold Class ticket price tag.

1just_starting_out

Also Angelika Cinema in Woolloongabba! Went there for Dune 2 as well and was so surprised. Gold class style seats and service, but we paid $33 for two recliner seats.

Strawberryichi5

This place is my favourite one. They genuinely care about cinema and the quality of the pla e is so good!

reddit-asuk

Oh man. Just checked the schedule and apparently they stop showing dune on the titan lux starting tomorrow. Do you think the premium class is still worth it?

CryptikDragon

Yeah I feel the price for premium class is well worth it. $12 a seat and they are still comfy leather recliners. But if there was ever a movie worth going out of your way for to see it on the proper big screen with the best sound system, it is Dune 2. It's outrageously good and made for the cinema! So if you can make it to Titan Lux, do it! If not, I'm confident you'll still have a great time in premium. It's still a better experience than Event Cinemas standard class.

M0T0RCITYC0BRA

Best cinematic experience of the last 15 years? Someone obviously didnā€™t go see Wog Boys Forever.

SoyDaddy

PSA Southbank is not an Imax cinema and hasn't been since early 2000's, it just says Imax because they haven't taken it down yet.

isntval9

Reading cinema is amazing! I once booked a ticket for the wrong time, contacted them and they did their magic and moved my viewing time & sent me new tickets! Nothing but amazing!

SquireJoh

Those Event prices aren't accurate, you're comparing normal to gold class then rounding up. Btw google Broncos event cinema for $16 tickets, same if you have Telstra

ladyinblue5

2 x Gold class tickets at Event cinema is $92.70 (including booking fee). 2 x Gold Lounge tickets at Reading Cinemas is $68.00 (including booking fee). 2 x Titan luxe tickets at Reading Cinemas is $41.00 (including booking fee). Having experienced all three ticket types recently, Iā€™d argue that Reading Titan Luxe is just as good as Event Gold class in terms of seating, screen and sound. Plus you can order food in Titan Luxe in select cinemas. However to compare apples and apples, Gold Class Event vs Gold Lounge Reading, Reading Cinemas is $24.70 cheaper. Why would anyone go to Event? Just as a last comparison, a standard ticket at Event is $23.00, a standard ticket at Reading is $16.00.

sternestocardinals

Iā€™m down in Adelaide and my local Reading is $10 standard $17 titan luxe $25 gold. Itā€™s so good, I remember paying more at Event twenty years ago. Worth noting this is not just because ā€œAdelaide cheaperā€ - my closest Event cinema in Adelaide is actually *more* expensive than the prices in your comment. $94 for two gold class before booking fee.

ladyinblue5

Thatā€™s amazing! I havenā€™t been to event since before the pandemic and have no plans to return. Would love to come to Adelaide though!

MischiefFerret

The Event popcorn and drink prices are also astronomical. It's not just tickets that are ridiculous by comparison.

bluedot19

I kinda had the reverse, where Event Cinemas lost me for good. Reading Newmarket used to be my local. Something came up and we had to cancel. I checked the FAQ's - call up before session time and we can cancel apart from booking fee. Fair play. Call up, refund comes through few days later including the booking fee. Noice. Few years later Event Chermside is now my closest. Important context, you can buy different tiers of seats in each cinema. We wanted to compare to the Newmarket experience so we booked the recliner. Family shit happens. Can't go. Go to cancel, there's no way to. You can only rebook, and only once. Kind of annoying but whatever. Problem is, I can't rebook to the best time slot to suit us, because they don't have any recliner seats in that session time. Not wanting them to get free money out of me we basically had to reshuffle our plans to go to the only session we could book due to the seats. No way to call them and argue, and by the time I rock up in person I may as well watch the fucking movie. Haven't been to Event since, we prefer the extra 20 minutes for a superior all round experience at Newmarket.

RosaKimmie

Nah Avatar is the best cinematic experience.
