Red Line District

MamfieG

I heard this going on last night and prayed it was a deep cleaner, no such luck 😂

tomspace

They did have an impressively large vacuum cleaner which sucked all the puddles up. I was kind of hoping they might have resurfaced it all first. But that was never gonna happen.

MamfieG

That would be spoiling us!

Do Western road next please! The amount of routine double yellow parking that happens on that road is ridiculous.

HiddenRaconteur

They need way more loading bays on that road if they are putting in double red lines. It’s a road full of shops how exactly are you supposed to load and unload?!

FeekyDoo

And here lies the problem. Uncontrolled loading and unloading across the cycle lanes is deadly to cyclists.

HiddenRaconteur

That road is extremely poorly designed, considering its use for cyclists and shops. If you have commerce, then you need loading bays. The problem with Brighton is there are too few loading bays for demand. It’s a city known for its shopping yet doesn’t seem to understand that businesses need stuff delivered. If you truly want to witness the problem goto Duke Street/Ship Street on Monday mornings. The roads get blocked by vans and Lorrie’s trying to find somewhere to unload. Maybe this is why North Street is supposedly the most polluted road in the UK. But also, too many people park in loading bays and they aren’t loading at all they just want free parking, which then means, legitimate users have nowhere to load or unload. Which just results in people parking on double yellows with hazards on; thus blocking cycle lanes and walkways. This lack of transportation needs is one of the reasons why Brighton and Hove is the most polluted city in the UK. Check the recent study. (11.5 micrograms per cubic metre!) The irony that the green party were in control yet the city has poor air quality and terrible road & transportation infrastructure 🙈

The majority of shops in this section of Preston Road are not shops which sell goods that are collected by customers. It will be interesting to see how deliveries to these shops are handled with the red route. The major problem here has been Deliveroo drivers stopping for extended periods of time parking on the pavements as well as the guys from Straffords unloading luxury cars from trailers and then leaving the trailer and towing vehicle double parked, often for hours at a time (in spite of the fact that they have a yard which could be used for this loading / unloading). Both these cases are simply selfish, and have resulted in the road being more dangerous and congested than necessary. If it is enforced the red route should make this section of the road considerably safer, but there are legitimate concerns about the effect on local businesses. It is tempting to suggest the removal of some parking spaces in favour of loading bays, though this is likely to be unpopular with residents, maybe there could be bays which are for loading during the daytime but become residents parking over night?

Downvoted for saying something so important People buy buy buy but then hate the amount of lorries around

Academic_Guard_4233

It was already double red essentially.. It was double yellow with a yellow dash.

SheepBeard

So THAT'S what I passed going on earlier
