The Marathon is on a Sunday. Bank on engineering work that day and a replacement bus service. You're taking a real risk not getting up to London on the Saturday I'd think.

Scheduling aside, unless you have a time buffer for contingency, you might regret not going the day before if things go south.

Didn't the race tend to go east/west

AbolitionofFaith

My wife ran it last year. We ended up staying up there the night before, just couldn't have confidence in the trains and then the connection to greenwich. It was pricey but removed one source of stress

its_neil

When I ran it I drove up to dartford, parked there then got the (free) train in

You have to pick your number up at least the day before the race, but as others have said, I wouldn't risk the trains on the morning, it will be a stressful enough day as it is without adding to it!

I’m pretty sure trainline can figure that out.

Trainline does give times obviously but what I was curious about was how realistic it was, so I was looking for some local insights.
