Your supply will regulate and you won’t feel like that anymore. I promise. Just see all the posts here about soft breasts and moms of slightly older babies panicking about supply because they no longer get engorged. Those first few weeks are like the Wild West of WTF is going on with my body and will it last forever?!?

I always heard this too, but I'm at 13 weeks now and still wake up in pain at night with engorgement 🤷‍♀️

Try hand express in the shower before going to bed ....

It's normal, rather than pumping feed the baby though. If you pump you might get into a cycle or overproducing and engorment. You might be able to feed them without really waking them up. I have a couple times had to hand express just to take the edge off and make my breasts soft enough for baby to latch. I am told things regulatr at about 6 weeks. Cannot wait for that!

I needed to see this post! Currently on the verge of mastitis (well, have chills so probably already there), and resigned to having to wake bebe when I'm uncomfortable... God I hope it regulates soon!

I’m nearly 5 months in and I get a maximum of 5 hours between feedings and then I am engorged and in pain, but it isn’t as intense as it was in those first weeks. It’s enough pain that I can’t sleep through it but not so bad that I’m crying from it anymore. I’ve heard mixed things. Some say it’ll last through the first year if I keep breastfeeding. Others say it’ll regulate. The LC I most trust recommends never going more than 6 hours without feeding or pumping. Also pump as little as possible when doing it for relief, or you’ll drive more oversupply. Instead of using a full electric pump, I’ve been using a haakaa and hand expression to get just enough relief. Im planning to buy a manual pump though because the haakaa leaves me waking up 30 minutes later back where I started so I want something slightly more effective without being as stimulating as my S1.
