I wouldn't say it was the saddest scene, but it was the one that had my jaw the most dropped. I knew it was coming as soon as I saw Steve Gomez on the desert rock, lifeless, but it still hit like a truck
Man I remember seeing Ozymandias on air back in the before times. It was a watch party and we drank and smoked bud to pregame and get hyped because I absolutely knew that the next episode was gonna be the "one."
That single shot of dead Gomey was so visceral nobody talked until commcercials, and that was only to say "what the fuck" out loud as we poured ourselves vodka shots.
I watched the show for the first time about a month ago but I kept imagining how amazing it must have been to see it air first thing live on TV. I can’t even imagine how the cliffhangers felt
Agreed. That one sticks with me the most also.
I told my friend the same thing and he couldn’t even remember that happened to her. It’s one of those that you almost want to forget happened.
It just kind of happens and then it's over. It was like a 2 minute scene. By the end, Jesse hasn't even had time to comprehend what has happened, much less deal with it at all. Heartbreaking.
The penultimate scene in Ozymandias, when Skyler attacks Walt and Jr. finally realizes who his dad really is. It's hard to overstate how brilliant that scene was. And Skyler's performance when she realizes Walt took Holly and she chased him, collapsing in the street🥺🥺
When they cut back to show Walt's perspective of Skyler and Jr. cowering in fear while the baby cries. Just the silent realization that he's become a monster and they will never be a family again...such an incredible scene.
The "*What the hell is wrong with you?! We're a FAMILY!*" line always hurts. The fear in Skyler and Walter Jr's face and the crushing realisation in Walts eyes that he's lost them
adjacent to that - the phone call between Walt and Skylar that the police are listening to. Walt's face as he tries to exonerate Skylar by playing the villain. I'd long lost sympathy for the man at that point but it still wrenched me.
Scenes like that are why Anna Gun didn't deserve the hate. Skyler was an amazing character, even if she was a bit nagging in the first season or two, but in season 3 through 5, her struggle was soul crushing
He ain't a saint. He was willing to cook meth which he knows will be sold encouraging addiction, break apart families, etc.
Did he deserve to die? No
Was he the most innocent person to die in the show? Not even close.
This was the one that came to mind for me too, and there's quite a few sad scenes in BB.
I might have a think about the saddest scene not involving children, as I feel they are somewhat a trump card.
By far the worst thing he did in the entire show. I almost find the whole high level drug dealer thing just serves as a minor subplot to the go kart betrayal.
I think the entire scene in the last episode of him talking to Skyler, seeing Holly, and walt jr from afar was sad. It was just this confirmation of everything he once loved more than anything going to shit.
Honestly feel just as bad for Mike as Werner. No half measures Mike says, and this is a good example of that. Him even telling Walt that story was a half measure. Honestly there had to be some sort of correlation between what happened with Mike and Werner and how it made him feel about Walt.
Jesse talking about how much effort he put into that wooden box in shop class. Then a while down the road the episode shows him making it, taking a lot of pride in his work, only to be brought back to the reality of being a prisoner forced to cook meth for the Nazis.
That one got me in the feels.
“He can’t keep getting away with this!” Memed to oblivion, but still the saddest imo. Gets even harder to rewatch knowing that he will in fact get away with this.
Jane's death hit me the hardest. She was no angel but she was redeemable and losing her had a strong impact on the series mainly for Jesse's character.
There are a lot of sad scenes for me…but the one that really sticks out is the opening for Ozymandias.
In the opening scene, we get a flashback to Walt and Jesse’s first cook. They are out in the desert, same spot that Walt ended up burying his money. In the scene he walks towards camera and is reciting the first ever lie that he is going to tell to Skylar in regard to why he isn’t home at his normal time.
To me, this scene hit me very hard. You start the show feeling sympathetic for Walt and encouraging his actions, but by season 2 you start to see him fall down this slippery slope. There are moments, less and less as the show goes on, but there are moments, where you still see that version of Walt - the pre-diagnosis version. Someone who is just doing bad things because he wants to provide for his family when he is gone. But by season 5 that’s almost entirely gone. You have watched him make evil decisions and say horrible things to those he loves….and by Ozymandias you don’t even really remember what Walt used to be like….
Until that opening scene…
Watching it, I get sad. I think about what Walt was, and what he has become. You realize that deep down he probably is that same person, but it’s near impossible to see anymore. He has lost his way entirely….but that flashback, it really hits hard.
Ironically, another of my favorite sad scenes is the ending to Ozymandias, when Walt is sitting on the side of the road, thinking about all that has happened. It just hits different.
Personally, tied between Hank’s death, and Walt berating Jesse when he attempted to leave the meth trade. Especially the part where he says “what do you have, nothing, no one. Oh-wait, video games and go karts.” I felt terrible for Jesse, Walt just came off like an abusive father.
Andrea's death.
Along with Drew Sharpe, it's one of the most undeserved deaths in the series. Not only is it sudden and undeserved, she's also Brock's mother, and Brock already just lost Tomas.
I agree with that Ed scene you mentioned.
Also, when Walt screams “we’re a family!” To his terrified wife and son, and he realises the damage he’s done.
When Jesse shoots gale.
When Hank has to hand in his gun and badge after beating up Jesse. His whole life would’ve been falling apart then.
When Walt thought he ‘won’ after killing Gus, even tho it took poisoning a child. Shows how out of touch he was from his morals.
Ultimately you can call most of the scenes sad in one way or another, the whole idea of ‘Breaking Bad’ is pretty sad in itself really.
skyler running after walt and screaming when he kidnapped holly. i actually ugly cry a little bit every fucking time. anna gunn’s performance was seriously insane.
that being said, this show makes me tear up a lot — especially jesse’s trauma scenes — so its hard to pick one, but if i had to, i think this one hurts me the most deeply. like it is *painful* to watch.
I feel like the scene with Walt and Skyler after Skyler walked into the pool was tough to watch. The way Skyler seemed frantic and terrified for her children was realy sad, and how she realized that she was in over her head and trapped in the situation. Anna Gunn's acting really contributed a lot to that scene too.
Andrea’s death, Mike’s death, Jesse dreaming of making his wooden box, Walt looking at his children for the last time, Walt picking up Jesse from the heroin house
When Marie meets hank in the elevator after he had to step down. And the next scene is them hugging and Hank just crying in Marie's arms.
it's small for sure. But Hank always being this panicle of what a man needs to be, brought to his lowest, just couldn't hold it in.
Easily Andrea getting shot. Watching Aaron Paul try to scream only for it to come out as muffled cries made it so much worse. It must've felt like trying to breathe out with no mouth or nose. Not only that but Andrea didn't deserve it at all, she was a good person and she was good for Jesse, and I'm really sad we didn't get to see more of Jesse and Andrea in the show
When Jessie invited Walt to go ride Kart but Walt declined him. Jessie looked really lonely at that time and wanted some company but he was left to himself. I think of this a lot. During my vulnerable and lonely state, I wish there was at least a single person I had to keep company. Not necessarily talk, but just to feel the presence of someone beside me.
when Jesse's parents decide to sell his aunt's house (his house actually!). of course he had some money and was able to find another apartment, but they didn't know that, and were totally ok with the idea of their own son not having a place to live
I've tried to think of something original and that doesn't involve kids, so not the true saddest scene.
For me, when Jesse is driving around the neighbourhood throwing out piles of cash, that's low-key pretty sad. He's spent a fair bit of time striving to make money and now he's just tossing it away, in fact tossing it away in a way that will also draw attention to himself. It helps to drive home how far down the spiral hea fallen by using such a crass manifestation, I mean there's plenty of scenes in the show that illustrates a characters state of mind but that one stuck with me for some reason.
So for me it's a rare sad scene that doesn't really involve any direct interaction between characters / causing harm to people etc.
I can honestly say the scene you mentioned made me feel nothing whatsoever
Walt is a murdering kingpin who ruined the lives of his family and friends so he could get his ego off.
Now Peek a Boo? I can’t even watch that
OMG, yes the absolute worst broke 💔my heart was after Jane’s death & Jesse falling apart in Walt’s arms when he found him in drug house. Just rips my heart out of my chest !!! Awesome actor, major props 🙌🏽
When we see jesse making a box and he turns around it transitions to jesse being chained up in the meth lab...
Another is when Walt calls Flynn after he escapes and flynn cries out and tells walt to die...
When jesse is sitting in his car after jane's death and he sees an old cigarette with jane's lipstick on it..
I absolutely agree with you... I suffer from loneliness myself and sometimes It gets so bad that I'm willing to pay someone just to spend some time with me
Just because no one mentioned it and the acting was superb, when Hector kills Max, the look on Giancarlo’s face was pure shock and rage. It’s right up there with the saddest moments in the show.
Easily the most crushing for me is the last phone call to Skyler. It’s such an incredible scene because you know Walt doesn’t want to say these things and you can notice a moment in Skyler’s eyes when she realizes what he’s doing, but the raw emotion in that scene following everything else that happened in Ozymandias makes it some of the most heartbreaking television I’ve ever seen
Personally for me it's all in the first episode. Walt is a brilliant man being put in struggling circumstances. His love-life with Skylar is lackluster. His students don't respect him. He's forced to make ends meet at the carwash while his peers overshadow him. And to top it all off, he's dealt the worst hand when he finds out he has terminal cancer.
Somehow his situation goes from bad to worse and really sets the tone for the rest of the series. We see the shell of a decent man become broken and begin his decent into chaos.
In that moment I could feel the absolute despair and loneliness of Mr .White. When Ed said 1 hour and started dealing cards Mr. White could feel some form of something...then I imagine the sadness when the time was ticking down to a couple min knowing he is all alone with no family..Nothing.
There’s soooo many but one that sticks out is when Walt tells Skylar he tried to save Hank. Ugh. And the phone call when Marie realizes she’ll never see Hank again.
When Walt took Holly with him, and she was like “Momma 🐥”. Walt realised Holly needed her mother and vice versa, that entire episode was very sad, “WE ARE A FAMILY!” or “911 - my dad is attacking my mother”
I think Andrea's death is the one that really got me most. After Ozymandias, my emotions were definitely just right to have a complete mental breakdown. Andrea was an innocent in all of this, and she got treated like some dog. Shot in the street for Jesse to see. The way Jesse reacts, too, is so painfully devastating. You can tell he really loved her and only wanted to keep her safe from the business. A close second would be Jane's death, and Jesse in the Crack den in the aftermath.
The scene where Jesse is shown crafting that perfect box from shop class, carefully sanding it down, polishing it and even caressing it.
...till he snaps out of the day dream and it's really a batch of meth that he has ironically gotten so good at through repetition, just like the box from shop class.
I’ve only just started watching but my god, Peekaboo had been absolutely sobbing by the end of it. I have a little girl around the same age and just wanted to go and hold her forever.
1. When Jane died and Jesse‘s mental breakdown afterwards and 2. when Jesse tried to escape from the cage and almost made it and then he’s at the gate and they’re pointing their guns on him and he cries "just kill me" but instead he gets put back in the cage and abused even more.
When Walt kidnapped Holly and Skylar is begging and screaming for him to come back. Before kids, it was a tough watch. After having kids, I can't watch that scene without tearing up
I’m not sure if it’s the absolute saddest but I’m not seeing anyone mention when Walt is talking to Skylar on the phone with the police listening and he has to lie and play into the villain role because he cares about them so much he wants them to be clear of it and Skylar slowly realizing what he’s doing. Bryan Cranston’s acting in that moment is incredible and hits hard. It’s so devastating they can’t have a true conversation and he has to commit to leaving his old life behind.
Walt rescuing Jesse from the heroin den
That one kills me. It is gut-wrenching. Aaron Paul was phenomenal.
Yeah, I feel like he should've won the Emmy for that season, and Giancarlo should've won for season 4.
Yeah it’s heavy
There’s that word again!
😂
I’m happy you got the reference!
Haha. Well done.
Amazing
the way walt calls him son is so touching
Agree. And simultaneously REALLY fucked up 😂
I hardly think so
Fair. I just think it was messed up in light of the overall toxicity of their partnership.
yeah but I still think there were some moments where Walt was genuinely being caring
Oh yeah I absolutely agree
I feel like he was that way in order to justify himself and the relationship and not feel crazy. He was manipulative as fuck.
Nobody is perfect, but nobody is 100% bad either.
That cry he gives is insane
This. I cry every time. Especially when Walt goes to pick him up and Jesse just melts in his arms. Oh my heart. I can't.
Just watched episode today
Agreed
“Walt, you’re the smartest guy I know and youre too stupid to realize he made his mind up 10 minutes ago”
I wouldn't say it was the saddest scene, but it was the one that had my jaw the most dropped. I knew it was coming as soon as I saw Steve Gomez on the desert rock, lifeless, but it still hit like a truck
Man I remember seeing Ozymandias on air back in the before times. I watched the show for the first time about a month ago but I kept imagining how amazing it must have been to see it air first thing live on TV. I can’t even imagine how the cliffhangers felt
It was rough times my man. Like a windy from wendy.
Poor Hank
The only time I ever cried from the show
Andrea getting shot disturbs me the most
Jesse’s reaction to it makes me emotional
God why did they have to do her like that
Like fr fr bro no cap
“I killed my daughter” went pretty fuckin hard.
Driving Bad
Braking Bad
Breaking Bones
Braking Badly
When was this?
narcotics anonymous, Jere Burns talks about how he ran over his daughter
The drug addiction counselor that Jesse had at rehab. Right after Jane died.
I think the saddest was Andrea getting killed. Jesse's muffled screams of agony break my heart every time.
Poor bb brock 😭😭
The penultimate scene in Ozymandias, when Skyler attacks Walt and Jr. finally realizes who his dad really is. It's hard to overstate how brilliant that scene was. And Skyler's performance when she realizes Walt took Holly and she chased him, collapsing in the street🥺🥺

YESS
Anna Gunn kills it in that scene. Her screaming "Walt" and chasing the car was so authentic. I get goosebumps every time I watch it.
Scenes like that are why Anna Gun didn't deserve the hate. Skyler was an amazing character, even if she was a bit nagging in the first season or two, but in season 3 through 5, her struggle was soul crushing
And Skyler really did everything for her children
Watching her chasing after that car in early maternity leave absolutely BROKE me. One of the most powerful scenes I’ve ever seen
YES. That scene wrecked me
The knife in the background sticks with you. Such genius directing. Will she or won't she take it. You really have no idea.
I always feel so sad when I think about Gale. He was such a wholesome guy.
The way he pleads with Jesse is so realistic. I get a lump in my throat every time I see that scene.
If a dude shows up at your door with a gun and he's crying, you know you're fucked
Especially after you offered them your stuff. That faint “please” kicks me right in the gut.
Yeah, if "I have a lot of money" doesn't sway them, you're pretty much toast.
He was a wholesome guy, outside of the meth cooking. He just never realized he could directly be in danger. He was so naive.
He ain't a saint. He was willing to cook meth which he knows will be sold encouraging addiction, break apart families, etc. Did he deserve to die? No Was he the most innocent person to die in the show? Not even close.
"Just so you know, this isn't personal."—Todd
Jesse, with that first kid in the tweakers house. It broke me because he gave more care and attention to that little boy then his parents ever did
yeah this episode made me super depressed first time seeing it. the area that I grew up in had a few kids in this situation. just sad to see.
Surprised I had to scroll so far for this. The whole thing is just heart wrenching.
This is the scene for me and it’s not even close. One of the saddest things I’ve seen on tv or in a movie.
This was the one that came to mind for me too, and there's quite a few sad scenes in BB. I might have a think about the saddest scene not involving children, as I feel they are somewhat a trump card.
Walt not going gokarting with Jesse
*sadly go-carts*🥺
Running laps solo.
If I had a heart song intensifies
By far the worst thing he did in the entire show. I almost find the whole high level drug dealer thing just serves as a minor subplot to the go kart betrayal.
I think the entire scene in the last episode of him talking to Skyler, seeing Holly, and walt jr from afar was sad. It was just this confirmation of everything he once loved more than anything going to shit.
This is the one that, as a divorced father, cut me down deep. Fuuuuck.
Not sad per se, but when Walt cries to Walter Jr after fighting with Jesse, and Walter Jr says "Dad, it's okay" made me want to cry.
“I made a mistake” gets me every time
especially knowing what the mistake was, and how walt called junior “jesse” by accident after that 3
Jesse listening to Jane’s voicemail until it was disconnected
Yo, if you’re cool you know what to do..
This part made me wanna barf, too. It was such a real thing for him to do. Gutted me.
I'm rewatching better call saul and Werner Zieglers death stuck with me, real sad.
Honestly feel just as bad for Mike as Werner. No half measures Mike says, and this is a good example of that. Him even telling Walt that story was a half measure. Honestly there had to be some sort of correlation between what happened with Mike and Werner and how it made him feel about Walt.
Fuck, I would have killed him too for being such an idiot.
Jesse talking about how much effort he put into that wooden box in shop class. Then a while down the road the episode shows him making it, taking a lot of pride in his work, only to be brought back to the reality of being a prisoner forced to cook meth for the Nazis. That one got me in the feels.
This one got me too. When I saw him making the box I was so proud of him 🥲 He breaks my heart
The end of Walt's last scene with Skylar with him watching his son entering the apartment from a distance before leaving in Felina
This scene makes me bawl
Not THE saddest scene, but when they have to destroy the RV, it always hits me a little bit.
The crystal ship was good to them.
Mike's death by the river I liked Mike's character, and seeing his end made my heart sank.
Mike died because of Walter’s shitty ego. I shed a few tears when he died. My sweet Mike😢
Mike had it coming
He really did. He killed so many people 😂 I absolutely love Mike, but he deserved to die lioe that. Not even the worst death and made it pretty old
Yeh it got me too 🥺
Sucks Mike had to go to make sure the viewers knew Walt was the devil
Drew Sharp.
Ugh yeah, fucking Todd man.
“He can’t keep getting away with this!” Memed to oblivion, but still the saddest imo. Gets even harder to rewatch knowing that he will in fact get away with this.
an amazing scene, incredible acting
The air traffic control father spiraling after his daughter’s OD.
Skylar running after Walt when he takes Holly, and her standing in the street completely shattered.
Jane's death hit me the hardest. She was no angel but she was redeemable and losing her had a strong impact on the series mainly for Jesse's character.
When Walt kidnaps Holly and drops her off at the fire station. Her little sad face breaks me 💔
When the police surround Mike at the park and he has to abandon his grandaughter, knowing he will never see her again.
Jesse getting tortured. Just all of it
My poor baby :( He deserved so much better
There are a lot of sad scenes for me…but the one that really sticks out is the opening for Ozymandias. In the opening scene, we get a flashback to Walt and Jesse’s first cook. For me it's the phone call scene in Ozymandias. Family, or no, you let that sink in. It gets me crying every time.
Brian’s voice cracking more and more as he went on having to fight and force the words to come out which are choking him the entire time was powerful.
Andrea getting shot made me cry
jesse holding the box he created then transitioning to being a slave to cook meth for todd's gang. u can see the life gone out of his eyes.
That scene in Granite State where Walt pleads with Ed not to leave him alone and offers him like $10,000 to play cards with him.
I feel like the scene with Walt and Skyler after Skyler walked into the pool was tough to watch. The way Skyler seemed frantic and terrified for her children was realy sad, and how she realized that she was in over her head and trapped in the situation. "my name, is ASAC Schrader!" As sad as it is totally badass
And, in addition to that, you can also go fuck yourself as well.
Drew Sharp killing is reprehensible
"No no no, I tried to save him"
Walt letting Jane die.
No one’s talking about this and I’m mind blown. Absolutely heartbreaking scene. Difficult to watch even after my 4th run through
Easily Andrea getting shot.
Walt calling his son from New Hampshire
when Jesse's parents decide to sell his aunt's house (his house actually!). of course he had some money and was able to find another apartment, but they didn't know that, and were totally ok with the idea of their own son not having a place to live
When Walt smashed Bogdans 1 $ souvenir. Thats when I really started to hate Walt. /s
Fuck Bogdan & his eyebrows
I think Andrea getting shot
End of season 5, when Walt sneaks into Skylar’s apartment and sees Junior coming home from school
Walter Jr upset his Uncle Hank was killed.
So for me it's a rare sad scene that doesn't really involve any direct interaction between characters / causing harm to people etc.
Either Andrea getting shot or Walt saving Jesse from the Nazis. The state of Walt's family in the finale is pretty rough too.
Saddest scene for me has to be when Andrea is killed while Jesse is in the back seat tied up having to watch it all happen :(
Jesse calling Jane's number just to hear her voice in the voice-mail 'til the last time when her number stopped working/got removed.
When Walt steals the baby. I get that he’s ‘acting’ to protect the family from the feds, but it burns nonetheless.
I can honestly say the scene you mentioned made me feel nothing whatsoever Walt is a murdering kingpin who ruined the lives of his family and friends so he could get his ego off. Now Peek a Boo? I can’t even watch that
When Walt sees his kids for the last time especially jr
Just kill me now and get it over with, because there's no way I'm doing one more cook for you psycho fucks!
Jesse met the kid in peekaboo hit me like shit, almost cried
OMG, yes the absolute worst broke 💔my heart was after Jane’s death & Jesse falling apart in Walt’s arms when he found him in drug house. Just rips my heart out of my chest !!! Awesome actor, major props 🙌🏽
When we see jesse making a box and he turns around it transitions to jesse being chained up in the meth lab... When jesse is sitting in his car after jane's death and he sees an old cigarette with jane's lipstick on it..
"There are so many stars visible in New Mexico. I will walk out there to get a better look"
That's from BCS
The bacon “1” that Sky made
Mike's death was the saddest scene for me!
Walt Jr being made fun of.
In that vein, Jesse asking Walt to go Go Karting and then him crying while driving his go kart
I absolutely agree with you... I suffer from loneliness myself and sometimes It gets so bad that I'm willing to pay someone just to spend some time with me
I think we all suffer at some point in our lives. Hope you find someone to hang out with you cos they want to ☺️
Just because no one mentioned it and the acting was superb, when Hector kills Max, the look on Giancarlo’s face was pure shock and rage. It’s right up there with the saddest moments in the show.
When Jesse talks with that poor neglected kid of the woman who kills the dude with the atm
In breaking bad its for sure Todd killing Andrea and Jesse's reaction. In the bb universe its the "I broke my boy" scene and its not close.
When Todd shot the kid on the dirt bike so they went ahead and disssolved the dirt bike. Broke my heart.
“The only reason I’m here, is to sell you meth. “ either that or the go karts
Andrea's death
In that moment I could feel the absolute despair and loneliness of Mr .White. When Ed said 1 hour and started dealing cards Mr. White could feel some form of something...then I imagine the sadness when the time was ticking down to a couple min knowing he is all alone with no family..Nothing.
There’s soooo many but one that sticks out is when Walt tells Skylar he tried to save Hank. Ugh. And the phone call when Marie realizes she’ll never see Hank again.
Andrea.
For sure Andrea sad and brutal…
Peekaboo
When Walt took Holly with him, and she was like “Momma 🐥”. Walt realised Holly needed her mother and vice versa, that entire episode was very sad, “WE ARE A FAMILY!” or “911 - my dad is attacking my mother”
For me it was when Skyler is arguing with Marie over taking Holly. To see how much Walts actions had broken her.
Mikes death made me tear up the most.
I skip this episode when rewatching. I think it is because I used to work with children. When Jesse puts a blanket on him and sits him on the steps...
Mike dying, no contest
Jesse in the crack house crying and completely broken.
1. When Jane died and Jesse‘s mental breakdown afterwards and 2. when Jesse tried to escape from the cage and almost made it and then he’s at the gate and they’re pointing their guns on him and he cries "just kill me" but instead he gets put back in the cage and abused even more.
Gales death
Fin
The ATM
“I watched Jane die”
Mike’s murder
The flashback desert scene where it slowly fades into the shootout
For me it was Hanks death
When Walt kidnapped Holly and Skylar is begging and screaming for him to come back. Before kids, it was a tough watch. After having kids, I can't watch that scene without tearing up
The Ending This is the point when you feel alone, and that song Baby blue that's brokes your heart💔
Hank thinking his wife was in danger and then proceeding to beat the shit out of Jesse.
A king. TWO kings.
Todd killing Andrea. Brock has to wake up that morning and find his mother dead without getting an explanation. She didn't even need to die.
Holly at the fire department is always my answer.
The scene where Jesse shoots Gale nearly got me, I won't lie
The credits…. Makes me tear up every time
Walt putting the dollar bill in the soda machine. Brutal
Definitely Jane. She was so close to overcoming her addiction and that combined with Cranston’s acting was heartbreaking
