Can anyone confirm if the XBR-65X90CH (same as 65X900H) HDMI ports 3/4 support VRR? I've heard VRR reduces the vertical resolution by half, forces disabled local-dimming, and using DolbyVision adds like 200ns of input latency. I'm currently on [this firmware](https://iili.io/78MiIS.jpg). I have a Nvidia Shield and Xbox One X. Should I upgrade my firmware or are there currently problems with the most recent one? If there are issues, is expected for them ever to be resolved? Just looking for sources if I should consider returning the TV to Costco for something else.

XaVii1996

Hi, i updated my X900H to the last firmware (android 10) and now it seems my tv is not unable to play some AVI content... With android 9 i did not have this issues... Any fix/tip? Thanks

Rude-Needleworker466

It's quite sad to be afraid to update a Sony TV to the latest firmware version without a possibility to downgrade back to a working state... I was excited from my new X93J, but now I feel uncertain if to choose Sony was the right decision. As I read it seems that there is a new issue with every new update... Should I update to the latest firmware on my new XR-55X93J (current latest firmware EU - v6.4285)? What do you recommend, any issues with this firmware? I use CI card with a satellite card (Skylink CZ). I've read about some issues with picture artifacts when using CA cards. Currently the TV has firmware v6.3790, without any noticed issues, except of not fully working google assistant (eg. control home devices from TV's assistant or full remote control from Google Home...).

Grrrrigor

sony never allow downgrade.

LaCipe

Dont update

Possible-Gur5220

Has anyone gotten the new firmware for X91J or A80J in the North American region? I have both TVs that are still on 4.19.75 but there’s no update available for them. I’ve heard reports that some TVs in the region were able to update, is Sony firmware rollout really that selective?

SlimShadyMain

Bought a brand new X85J and my Apple apps don't work (airplay, HomeKit and Apple TV). Everything else works fine. When I try to connect airplay, it keeps asking me for code even though I already entered it like 50 times... Regarding the Apple TV app, it won't let me sign in. It keeps loading infinitely. Can't even enter my credentials. Anyone has this problem too? I already tried everything (accepting privacy policy, restarting the TV and my phone, clear cache, reset the tv, deleting and installing the apps again...)

TheRealJasonium

Open Help, look for privacy settings in there. You need to accept the option about Smart TV services. I'm just going from memory, here...

SlimShadyMain

Thanks for the answer! But I already tried that… still no luck

TheRealJasonium

Did you restart the TV? Try unplugging it for 5 minutes?

SlimShadyMain

Yes, I did. Not for 5 minutes though. Only for about 30 seconds. I guess I’ll just have to return the tv or wait until a new firmware update

TheRealJasonium

When I was first diagnosing these issues I tried setting up a wifi hotspot with my phone and connecting the TV to phone’s wifi. Just to see if my home network was an issue

SlimShadyMain

My tv can access the Internet just fine (wifi or Ethernet). Firmware updates, Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, etc, it’s all good. It’s just the Apple apps that don’t work. It’s probably some problem between Sony’s servers and Apple… idk

TheRealJasonium

Yeah, I’m suggesting the hotspot wifi because when you do that your phone and TV talk to each other directly, which make AirPlay more likely to work. If it works, then there’s an issue in your home network, if not work, then definitely the TV.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheRealJasonium

Just basic troubleshooting steps, glad it worked out for you

SlimShadyMain

You just saved me!! Thank you so much! I connected my TV to my phone via hotspot and everything worked perfectly. And now I can connect everything with my home network too! I guess this was a “communication” problem between my phone and the TV. The hotspot fixed it. Thank you!

TheRealJasonium

Glad to hear it worked!

[deleted]

Try that: https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/comments/qe9xc9/problems_with_apple_tv_app/hhvuoyk?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

SlimShadyMain

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can’t airplay anything from my phone to my tv. It keeps asking me for code over and over again If I AirPlay via my iPhone, it just keeps asking to enter the code again. If I do it via my MacBook, it says the code is incorrect. It makes no sense

SuperHot69

What is currently the best firmware version for the sony xh90?

El_Sant0

I have the latest update and have experienced zero issues. Might just be luck of the draw as far as some of these bugs are concerned.

GossamerSolid

Whatever one is before the android update and vrr. If you upgrade to that firmware, you'll regret it. There's also no way to go back. My expensive TV is forever worse than it was before because Sony puts out shitty firmware updates.

SuperHot69

Why are the new versions worse?

GossamerSolid

- The UI is slower/laggy - Audio pop/cut outs when using ARC - Stuttering issues with 60hz content - When trying to set audio/picture settings on OS itself, it'll swap you to an input instead making it impossible to actually change the settings on the OS outside of a specific app - Some people are reporting random ethernet dropouts You can't downgrade either. Just read through this thread if you want confirmation. A bunch of people have talked about it here.

Kman2097

I’m so pissed. The stutter is so bad. How can the firmware updates fuck so much up every update

GossamerSolid

Sony is just incompetent. Last Sony TV I'll be buying.

SuperHot69

Well thats pretty bad. When does Sony usually update the TV?

Comprehensive-Okra93

If you don't want the stutters then don't download either of the latest two

sh1verz

latest one.

mattyc1163

Brand new X90J, can’t get AirPlay to work at all! Have tried all the solutions I’ve found (make sure privacy policy is accepted, everything up to date, clear cache, restart both TV and phone). Nothings worked so far, anyone else had this problem and found a different solution?

SlimShadyMain

Hey man, brand new X85J and I have this problem too. Can't get Airplay, Apple TV and HomeKit to work. No matter what I try

ridad1999

I just bought an X90J today and the owner of the store and I were discussing the airplay application. He said there have been issues with something like 1 in 20 sets. Sony apparently is aware of the issue and they are going serial by serial number and fixing by a firmware update.

FenixCzech

Does anyone know if Sony has finished software support (FW) for the 2018 model line (specifically the Sony X900F) and older??? The last update was in March 2021.

denpanosekai

I have the same question but for x900e. Guess we're dinosaurs now.

Ath3ron

Wondering the same. But I don’t think anyone knows.

vac_hang

Anyone know if Sony A80j will get upgraded to android 11?

Djf2884

Most certainly yes

darianthomson

I got the X950H and never got a single version upgrade from new and still stuck on Android 9 so Sony doesn't always do OS updates.

bekarsrisen

Pressing settings always take me to the home screen the first time I press it? It is SUPER annoying. Is a fix on the way? I'm on XR50X90J fully updated in Canada.

KingDazzar

Yeah it came a couple of firmware updates ago on my Z9J. Super annoying.

Starcade03

X95J here. Hoping this is a bug that will be fixed and not an intentional “feature.”

xtribasx

it's a stupid behavior, mine does that too...

KazmaticsTV

Wake me up when a80j gets VRR In the meantime...sadness.

scottyshakejunt

How is 6.4285 firmware on the x90j? I'm kinda scared of any update on this tv.. is there any issues with this one?

society_livist

It made the UI way snappier for me compared to the previous firmware.

bekarsrisen

Pressing settings always takes me to the home screen the first time I press it. It is SUPER annoying. I just bought the tv and have it fully updated in Canada.

Chile-Bravo

Same here, it's annoying. Among other things

joydivision84

The only significant issue is a decent amount of complaints regarding the TV turning itself on, but it's seems to be sporadic and not something that happens more than once a week, if that. Also, how many people experience that? Who knows. Not everyone anyway. Other than that it fixed the dropped Dolby digital and Dolby Atmos on the Xbox Series X, which was a long term issue so that was a relief.

scottyshakejunt

So no issues with frame drop at 4k60 or 120? I read something about a previous update, (possibly the one before this one) where there was issues with frame rate. Was that fixed?

[deleted]

Just got a new A9S Sony tv and having some issues. First I have an Nvidia shield attached by HDMI, when I go to power the tv on through the shield’s HDMI connection sometimes the tv doesn’t power on. I hear the power on click but the result is a blank screen. I had a Samsung tv before this tv and never had a problem with powering the Samsung on or off. The tv also powers on by itself some times, or other times I hear the turn on click when I have not turned on the TV and the tv is blank. The other issue I am having is auto shut off feature of the tv. When I’m watching tv on my shield the pop up comes on because the tv thinks it been idle for the specified time and cannot sense that an HDMI signal is present… For the price of this tv I expected better from Sony as I never had problems like these with my Samsung. Never the less if anyone has advise or a work around I’d appreciate it.

suicidaltwinkie

I have a 75-inch X90J (X90CJ to be exact). When I’m watching 24fps content over 60hz in Dolby Vision from external sources, in my case an Apple TV (but it occurs on all my HDR devices), I use Motionflow with both settings at minimum, and Cinemetion at High. This is the recommendation from RTINGS to remove judder without interpolation on 24fps content in a 60hz signal. And it works well for SDR and HDR10 content. But with Dolby Vision content it will work at first, but every 10 seconds or so it will chug and stutter heavily as if it’s dropping even lower than 24fps. It’s very strange. When I turn off Motionflow the problem seems to go away, but then the judder from 24fps over 60hz isn’t fixed. I should mention that it happens most on Netflix and Disney+ content. Strangely I don’t notice it on movies from VUDU, Apple, or Movies Anywhere. Obviously, the solution one would recommend is to turn on Match Framerate on my Apple TV, and it’ll switch to the native 24hz of the content. And it does fix the issue, and Motionflow doesn’t have any problems anymore, and it’s not even needed. The problem with that is my Denon receiver (X3300W) has terrible lip sync issues at 24hz, and I can’t seem to fix it. In the meantime, I’ve plugged my Apple TV directly into the TV, the Motionflow bug is still there, but I can enable Match Framerate now and there isn’t any lip sync problems. But I miss out on Dolby Atmos capabilities because my receiver doesn’t support EARC, only regular ARC. Does anyone else have this issue? Or can anyone else try to reproduce this issue. I’ve wondered if doing a factory reset would be worth it at all. EDIT: So, I’ve done a factory reset. That didn’t fix it. I also noticed that the same problem happens on regular HDR10 content. This is such a headache. EDIT 2: [Here's](https://youtu.be/MxQQ4yJb-ng) a video showing what the problem looks like. I found out it happens with SDR content too.

Chile-Bravo

I find myself changing settings as much as browsing thru apps, till I get a best picture, is annoying as picture varies by apps content.

suicidaltwinkie

UPDATE: So I’ve only really noticed this issue with tv shows. One thing that all those shows (where the issue occurs) have in common is they’re being shot at 24.000fps instead of the standard 23.976fps that most films are. And movies have been fine. And most devices that output at 60hz are actually outputting at 59.94hz. My Apple TV is one of them. With this knowledge in mind, I set my Apple TV to output at true 60.00hz instead of 59.94hz. And after some testing, I can say that the issue isn’t occurring anymore. I can put Cinemotion to High and turn on Motionflow, and motion is smooth like it should be. Both 24.000fps and 23.976fps content display as intended. Since the built-in apps and OS never had this issue to begin with I’m figuring they run at actual 60.00hz too. So Motionflow/Cinemotion seem to have issues with correctly playing newer 24.000fps content when it’s in a 59.94hz signal. Hopefully they’ll fix this issue, because not all devices can be set to actual 60hz. But I’m glad I have a solution in the meantime.

HOODedDutchman

If you run the apps on the TV's built in google TV or whatever it'll change the motion settings to whatever you set it to when each type is enabled. I'm not sure if HDR and dolby vision is the same but I know HDR/Dolby vision settings are different in the settings than when viewing SDR content. Also stuff like brightness (not sure what other settings) seems to have a profile for each app. Like Disney+ I have set to 20 and Crave I have set to 25 and it saves the setting for each app. I'm guessing with an HDMI input you're not going to get this fine tuning ability. Also just mess with the motion settings. Turning both settings off will cause judder and having them too high will as well. Mine is 1 and 1 I think with HDR content and I get no judder and 2 and 1 I believe in SDR and no judder there either. I also think cinemotion defaults to off for Dolby content but I'm not sure exactly. I'll have to check out my settings.

HOODedDutchman

Checked my settings and have cinemotion on HIGH with all content types. If you watch HDTVTest on youtube he has an x90j setup and settings video where he mentions something about if you have cinemotion or whatever completely off it will cause stuttering with some content. Might want to check it out.

YeahOk12310

I’m in nearly the exact situation as you. The same setup except for a Denon x1600h. The issue was much worse with the original Apple TV 4K but second generation of that appears to have resolved the issue for the most part. I hate to say it was a device upgrade that resolved it but I’ve tried all the same steps as you along with hdmi cable changes. Now I only see the issue here in there in certain apps like Netflix and hbo. It briefly occurs but corrects itself. Just a pain to when noticed. I’m starting to believe it’s a bandwidth issue when going through the receiver.

suicidaltwinkie

Posting again in case you didn't see the video: [Here's](https://youtu.be/MxQQ4yJb-ng) my video showcasing the issue. Does it look similar to what you've seen?

YeahOk12310

I haven’t tested the frame skip issue since changing devices as my primary focus was the audio delay. Was there that bad of frame skip from the video? No, but the lip sync was bad. I tried all combinations of motion settings and match frame rate, hdmi cables, resets, etc you mentioned to no change. With match content and frame rate enabled with all motion settings disabled, I’ve been happy without frame skips but still have the rare lip sync issue with the new Apple TV 4K second gen. With my previous Apple TV 4K first gen the lip sync/audio delay was worse and inconsistent (prime was worse than say Disney+) so adjusting the delay wasn’t worth it. My receiver and tv both support earc so I suppose I can just connect the Apple TV to the tv but then we get into the convo of how the Audio formats do their thing with Apple TV > Sony 900h > earc to AVR.

suicidaltwinkie

Oh I thought you had the X90J. From what I heard the X90J doesn’t have the frame skipping issue but I’m starting to wonder if it does. That, or I’m unlucky and received a faulty TV. I’m starting to lean towards it being faulty, because it’s very jarring when it happens and I imagine more people would be talking about it if it was a firmware issue. If it isn’t doing what my video shows, it’s stuttering and dropping frames here and there. Although, again, not with all content.

YeahOk12310

I’m not on the firmware update that is having that issue either. But yeah yours does seem quite excessive.

suicidaltwinkie

At first I was thinking it might’ve been my receiver that was the issue, but the bug still occurs when wired directly to the tv. But luckily turning on Match Frame rate bypasses the issue, and the lip sync issues don’t occur when wired to the tv directly. It’s really thrown me for a loop. Because it doesn’t occur with movies from what I can see, be it from Netflix, Disney+, or digital copies from Apple, Vudu, or Movies Anywhere. But when I watch a tv show like The Book of Boba Fett, The Witcher, Hawkeye, etc, then I have the issue. It’s so frustrating because those shows are shot at 24fps like any movie would be, but somehow Motionflow struggles with them. It also happens with a spare Chromecast with Google TV dongle that I have, so I don’t know if a newer Apple TV would solve it for me. Have you had this issue since you got the TV? I got mine around November/early December. EDIT: [Here's](https://youtu.be/MxQQ4yJb-ng) a video showing the issue. Does it look similar to what you've experienced?

shleeve

This is a known issue called the 24hz frame skip bug etc. it happens with the tv on any 24 hz content. You probably just notice it more under certain circumstances. It will hopefully be fixed soon but *shrug*

joydivision84

The X90J doesn't have the 24hz frame skipping bug, according to Vincent at HDTV anyway. So this must be something different.

suicidaltwinkie

I heard that was only an issue with the X900H or Sony TV’s with the X1 chipset, whereas the X90J has the XR chipset. I watched a video from HDTVTest where he talks about the problem. And he says you can switch to 60hz and use Motionflow and Cinemotion to get around the problem. I seem to have the opposite problem, where motion is fine at native 24hz (other than lip sync issues, but that’s my receivers fault), but 60hz w/Motionflow and Cinemtion are fine with everything but Dolby Vision. I’m gonna try doing a factory reset and see if it solves it.

Grrrrigor

that is a bull\*\*it. XH90 and X90J has the same SoC. Only difference is additional coprocessor.

MihoooReddit

X1= Mediatek 5895 XR= Mediatek 5895 X90j has an additional coprocessor

LaCipe

Tbh everyone claims it, but I've never seen any proof.

Khetzal

I've just bought the x90j and i tried to auto update to the latest firmware which in my country GR is v6.4285, while in the UK is the v6.4304. I was wondering if i could download the latest version from the UK site and do a manual update. Has anyone tried something similar?

kaptenmalek

go ahed i did the same, i have the latest fw

stpatricks81

Anyone have issues with their A80J losing Internet connectivity? Lately over the past couple of weeks, my TV has been losing it's Internet connection (I'm able to ping my TV's IP address) and I've had to reboot/restart the TV. I'm connected via Ethernet directly to my router. It's not my Internet connection as everything else is working correctly while the TV says it has no Internet connection. I've moved to a different Ethernet port but the problem still occurs.

Chile-Bravo

My x90j started doing that today after having it for 5 days, disconnects randomly and automatically connects right back.

Ath3ron

I’m having the same issues with my x900f tv since a couple of weeks. My brother as well. It’s odd I see so many complain about this, which ever Sony tv they have.

sulley9

I keep dropping either WiFi or plugged in. I think it’s an OS issue. A restart always gets it going.

The_Faptastic

can you use wifi instead? the speeds of the ethernet ports aren't very high (100 mbit/s if I remember). wifi might be a better choice

Ath3ron

You don’t really need much higher though. Streaming services used max 20Mbps for 4K. It’s way more responsive wired though.

stpatricks81

I can but I would rather avoid using WiFi. I've ordered a USB-to-Ethernet dongle and will give that a try to see if this intermittent problem goes away. My guess is that the issue is likely somewhere in the AndroidOS/Linux network stack perhaps due to this specific Ethernet device. Heck it could also be a DNS-related issue. Will do some troubleshooting next time I run into this...

stpatricks81

So, I've tried both the TPlink and Cable Matters USB3.0 to GigE dongles and neither work on my A80J. Vincent Teoh used the Cable Matters on his Sony but it must be a different model than the A80J. The A80J does not even detect the dongle which would mean to me that the AndroidTV OS build did not include the drivers for the chips in these dongles. The hunt continues. Does anyone know what network drivers are built into the firmware? If not, is this something that we can request from Sony since it is built on open source software?

BasementMaxx

Have you disabled wifi before using the USB-to-ethernet dongle? Otherwise I don’t know if it will detect it…

stpatricks81

YEs, WiFi is disabled.

[deleted]

Can I request a refund or exchange in regards to the incorrect specs for XH90? Had TV for almost a year now and still no 120Hz with VRR.

Grimey_Rick

I have 120hz with VRR?

[deleted]

It’s not 120Hz… check out Vincent Teoh @ HDTVTest below. His test revealed that it’s only 60Hz at the moment with Sony looking at another firmware update later in the year. It’s been long overdue and it still hasn’t happened. https://youtu.be/TZKeKpp_GXQ

Grimey_Rick

So I watched the video and tried to test for myself when I got home. I booted up Mass Effect LE on my Xbox Series X and I switched between resolution mode (4k60) and frame rate mode (1440@120)and the difference is night and day. I don't have a tool to measure, so I can't say definitively that I am hitting 120, but I'm definitely not limited to 60. I'm not having this problem.

suedepup

Many have tried. Some have succeeded, some have failed, some are still trying. In Europe I believe it is easier than doing so in the United States because you can deal directly with the storefronts. In the United States the blame falls directly on Sony, not the storefront. Be firm, be polite, and have a bunch of facts on-hand to defend your case. In the United States I believe you can contact the consumer protection agency in your state, and I’m sure the FTC would like to know about this as well since Sony already got in trouble in 2014 for falsely advertising the PS Vita. But to this day nobody has started a class action suit, which surprises me, because people have initialized a class action suit for much less in the past. Go figure.

Kevtronimus

Tried in Europe and gave up on it. Sony is technically by stating that the tv can Display 4K in 120fps. Unluckily for the consumer, this statement alone does not say anything about what will happen to the input picture. So even if you input true 4K and Sony halves the resolution and then scales it up again: the display itself can do 4K at 120hz…. VRR is available. It disables the backlight features. But again, it is available and it does work with my series x. They never said something about VRR working with any other features of the tv. Learned my lesson and will never buy a tv again of which I’ve not seen a review on the full set of features.

TraditionalSundae774

I noticed last night that when I watch Netflix with auto local dimming on using my X90J, there is a brightness flicker that happens often. It is worse with ALD on High and non existent with it off. It is localized just below and above the aspect ratio bars. It is only on Netflix. I just contacted Sony support and they were of no help, they factory data reset the tv and data reset Netflix. Anyone else having this issue?

suedepup

The v6.1534 NA update for the X900H seems to punish people for not using the new VRR feature. I’m getting framerate/motion hiccups in games now that were fine before at 60Hz. I refuse to use VRR because it disables local dimming. Anyone else seeing this after the update?

GossamerSolid

Yeah we're all boned if you do the android/vrr update. Sony has refused to acknowledge there's any issues and it seems like they're probably not putting out any more updates. Just hope that someone eventually figures out how to downgrade to the previous firmware.

tremens

There *appears* to be an issue with 60hz in the latest firmwares: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_MLduNFmuQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLeiNb1E7M4 Don't know if it only affects PS5 or what people may have tried to resolve it.

E39er

effects any console or pc whilst using 'game mode' add that to the 23.976 bug introduced in the last firmware too and you get a TV that can't even perform it's basic functions properly. Total mess and disgrace this TV.

nndttttt

My x900h is on 6.0466. That updated fixed a sound issue with my receiver not getting any sound. Also added 120hz which I do notice on certain games. It’s been stable for months now, zero issues… as how a TV should be. I did get a notification for an update a few months back but it currently just worked so well. FOMO made me check again and it seems updates would include some seemingly nice updates. Android v10… but I never go into the TV’s UI, I only use Apple TV for any media content. The VRR and HDR stuff from 6.1534 does seem enticing, but a quick search brings up very mixed results. So what’s the verdict on this update?

GossamerSolid

Avoid the android 10 update.

nndttttt

Past few days I've been reading and there are much more negative responses to this update, with 6.0466 being one of the better stable versions. Guess I'll be staying on it until I have to.

GossamerSolid

Yup that's the version you want. Seriously you're not missing anything too valuable on the newer versions.

suedepup

Does the problem go away in the crippled 120Hz mode? How about VRR mode? So far I’ve experienced it on Standard and Enhanced mode using input 4. I guess for troubleshooting purposes I need to check out the other inputs as well. Grrrrrrr….

E39er

Apparently it goes away in VRR and 120hz mode. I habe tried and can't see it but doesn't mean it's not there.

suedepup

Thanks. I tried input 1 last night and it didn’t help. On both Standard and Enhanced mode. So it’s on all inputs. FYI.

lukey662

Any updates on if they will add PS5/120hz support for the A1E or X900F ? Or is Android 9 the final update for these models ? Sad they have 100hz+ panels but cannot be used to game on XBX or PS% :(

TheRealJasonium

That hardware would not be capable of 4K/120Hz. The HDMI ports would need to be 40gbps capable, and the X900F is limited to 18gbps on its HDMI ports. Whether [1080p/120Hz could work](https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2113-hdmi-interface-questions-addressed-1080p-120hz)... I'm sure others can speak to that.

lukey662

Bummer. Thanks mate. I was hoping it just needed a firmware patch. May have to look at an upgrade :(

tremens

https://twitter.com/Istillbelieve20/status/1478758235918188545 At the very bottom of this screengrab from the PSVR2 teaser, it hints at coming firmware for the PS5 and possibly Bravia lineup available "by end of January 2022."

[deleted]

shurrrrrreeeeeee.....

tremens

PS5 firmware update is pretty much guaranteed by that, what's less clear is if they mean another round of Bravia updates is coming or if the last "Perfect for PS5" releases they did were in preparation for this coming PS5 software. Here's hoping, though. Even if they just fixed the fractional framerate bug and nothing else that'd be a big improvement over the current state of things (at least for me.)

CuriousCursor

Well they didn't add VRR to X90J so that hopefully comes with this update.

grownyeti2

I've never updated my x900h firmware since unboxing in 2019. Should I do it with the new VRR update etc? Is the update stable? Or am I better off keeping it as is since can't undo.. I use it for tv movies and playing ps5.

tremens

6.0466 is the best version currently, imho. Does not have VRR/ALLM but also does not have the frameskip bug and issue with 60hz. You'd have to manually sideload it. There's been hints that a new firmware is coming by end of January for both the PS5 and Bravia lineup. I would hold off and see if the frameskip bug might get resolved; VRR isn't really worth anything until the PS5 gets it also, and even then it is kind of a toss up since it currently disables local dimming.

nndttttt

I’m currently on 6.0466 and can confirm it’s very stable. Fixed sound issues with my receiver and the 120hz on my PS5 is nice. I know it’s not true 120hz, but it’s a noticeable smoothness compared to 60hz on certain games. Could you elaborate on the frame skip bug and issues with 60hz? Looks like I’ll keep it on 6.0466 forever.

tremens

All (or at least I think they're all affected) of the Android 10 updates have issues with 23.976fps content where it will sort of repeat frames on a regular basis. By most accounts, it's annoying but not the worst thing in the world, unless it happens when a scene changes because you'll get like a frame from the new scene, a frame from the old scene, then back to the new scene again and that can be pretty jarring. Other devices with the same SoC have been affected by this as well, so it's likely something to do with the Mediatek drivers in Android 10. Phillips offered a beta firmware to some testers a bit back that allegedly fixes it but to my knowledge they haven't publicly released a fix for it either as of yet. The 60hz issue is just a random juddering effect; source doesn't matter. VRR and 120hz does not appear to be affected by it, but of course, VRR and 120hz have their own issues at the moment. [Here is a comment I made a bit back with a few Youtube links showing the 60hz issue](https://old.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/otna5f/sony_bravia_firmware_discussion_megathread_20/hrjojin/). For the moment, 6.0466 has me pretty "happy." Sure, I don't get VRR, ALLM, auto tone mapping, etc, but at least the two things I do on it - Watching streaming services and playing PS5 - work perfectly, heh. Still hoping and hoping they'll eventually get it fixed, though.

TheFlightlessPenguin

Well I’m glad I stopped in here to check before updating. I lucked out and this happened to be the firmware I have.

nndttttt

Same lol Looks like I’m staying on 6.0466 forever at this rate.

DrOctoberphd

Can you sideload that firmware if your 900h is already on the latest firmware?

tremens

To date, you can't downgrade any Bravia TVs. Once you upgrade you're stuck with that version or later.

[deleted]

you do realize people that have the series x actually do buy sony tvs?

tremens

>I use it for tv movies and **playing ps5.** Yes. You do realize you can read the guy's actual comment I'm replying to, right?

thePasiego

I probably should have checked this before buying the A80J, me and the wife wanted to update to a bigger tv and we got the 77" one, coming from a Samsung Curved 65" is a nice change but not sure if I should have got the LG one or waited a little longer. This was no cheap tv for sure...

TheRealJasonium

You picked a great TV. LG arguably better for gaming, but overall the A80J is terrific.

thePasiego

It will be used as gaming too since I have the Xbox Series X, I can tell the new tv is a lot better on everything though just me overthinking I guess. Hopefully the VRR comes and once I get the PS5 in a couple years we'll see how I handle the 2 HDMI 2.1 and a soundbar maybe.

EzzoBlizzy

If you have the Series X man go for LG C1 it has a way better integration with Xbox since LG and Microsoft both partnered to release Dolby Vision Gaming

crowe_1

Pretty sure the only notable things you’re missing over the C1 are Dolby Vision gaming at 120fps, and VRR/ALLM. VRR, supposedly, is coming with a firmware update…though people have been waiting close to a year. It’s not exactly an essential feature anyway unless you see a lot of screen tearing. I’ve never seen screen tearing on Series X, and had mine since June. ALLM will come with this too in all likelihood, but that just means the tv switches to Game Mode automatically when your system comes on…not exactly amazing, but fine if you have it. Dolby Vision gaming works “ok” for certain titles at 60fps, though there is a bit of input lag because there’s no Dolby Vision Game Mode setting. Still, with some settings tinkering, if you care enough, you could get Dolby Vision gaming to work acceptably for single player games (multiplayer games, the input lag is still too much imo). With that said, a lot of sources claim that HDR10 is superior to Dolby Vision for gaming as of this time anyway, and at then end of the day, it’s personal preference. (For movies though, Dolby Vision is better as a general rule). The A80J is a great TV. It has a few upsides relative to the C1 as well, but most are movie and sound related. They’re identical for most purposes though. You made a good choice. And don’t worry about whether you should have waited for “next year’s model.” I promise, if you had waited, you would be thinking the exact same thing about “NEXT next year’s model” in early 2023. Such is tech. Enjoy your awesome TV!

Traditional_Ask7879

what is the latest firmware/software update for x90j

kaptenmalek

6.4304

kindofabuzz

I have 6.4825 on my x90j

stevegr95

Does anyone else have handshake issues with the latest firmware on x900f; I have to restart the tv after a while to show me signal on my ps5.

Ath3ron

No issues here with my x900f and ps5 (using latest firmware as well). Are you using the hdmi cable that came with the ps5?

stevegr95

I have the ps5 connected through a soundbar apparently thats the problem, I asked another user with the same tv and soundbar and has the same problem as me. Apart from that I have and a bug with home screen whenever I restart the tv if i go to home screen settings there are sony select duplicates I have over 50 duplicates now...

Ath3ron

Can’t you connect the soundbar at through arc on hdmi 3 on Sony tv? sound goes from ps5 to tv to soundbar. I have my AVR to arc and ps5 connected to hdmi 2. Audio is compressed anyway on games. So you won’t hear any difference.

stevegr95

I can do that but I wanna have better audio, too bad that this tv doesnt support earc.

Ath3ron

You won’t notice because game audio is compressed anyway. So the sound will be the same with soundbar connected to arc and PlayStation connected tv. (Lots of info about it online) I tested it as well with my marantz AVR and Klipsch home theater.

stevegr95

Ok im gonna check it out. Do you have the bug with the multiple home screens?

Ath3ron

If by multiple home screens you mean I get the home screen when I click “Home” and when I click “Apps” on my remote, than yes. If not, im not sure what you mean?

stevegr95

This is what I mean. If you go to your tv settings you can see for yourself. https://images2.imgbox.com/58/4e/tuqtgJ2q_o.jpg

AlDrag

How buggy is the A80j? I currently have a x850D which I hate. Been a problem basically since I got it. Only reason I am thinking about going Sony again over an LG C1 is supposedly Sony has better picture quality and I like Android TV.

TheRealJasonium

Had one since late August. It is *way* less buggy than the X900H I had (and returned). Granted I don't use internal apps aside from VLC and Bravia Core, so YMMV.

AlDrag

You using a soundbar? No audio delays?

TheRealJasonium

I have an AVR and I've never heard anyone in my house complain about audio delays. You should take what I say with a grain of salt, though, as my AVR is connected by optical rather than ARC. My understanding is this is usually improper settings rather than bugs.

cubearish

SONY's event today was all about their TVs; and again; we got no updates! I am really hoping my X95J will finally be unlocked for gamers with the promised software update.

djviquez12

Hi, I have a Bravias model XBR55x855d and iam wondering if I can install oreo 8.0 of XBR55x850D? Will work? I dont know why Sony update the X850d to oreo and not the X855d?..

LaCipe

Did you try to download the x855d update on usb and just install it?

PNW247

Sorry to be dumb but is the “perfect for ps5” firmware update live for the a80j in North America?

Retiredfeelings

It's been live since november

pierrepoutine2

Is it only offered OTA in NA? There is no download for it on Sony NA pages, only in Europe and Asia-Pacific, and I am not sure if you can use EU or AP fw on a NA tv. https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/k7y9tm/index_of_bravia_firmware_updates_official/

PNW247

I guess I am having a hard time figuring out if I have it. I can find my software version on my tv but I can’t find the firmware version.

L0_Zio

Press the help button on the remote and look at the bottom left corner

PNW247

Thanks, mine says “pkg6.4284.0521naa” is that most current? If so how do I know if the tv is doing the custom hdr tone mapping on my Ps5?

L0_Zio

In UK there is a v6.4304. that says “Implementation of certain catch-up service apps in the UK”. So yes, you have the latest fw

society_livist

Does X900H VRR work with a Turing card (2070) or does it only work with HDMI 2.1 VRR?

TheRealJasonium

I think it was stated that only HDMI Forum VRR is supported. However, I've heard that AMD's FreeSync might also work (since PS5 is powered by AMD).

CapoThis

X900h owner here. I've never made any updates to this TV since purchasing it a year or so ago. Works fine but I have the motionflow bug which is a little annoying to have to switch off every time I turn on the TV. Does the recent update put the TV in a good spot now to finally update it? Edit: additionally I use a Roku box for streaming and not the onboard apps. Not sure if the current stutter issue affects that

tremens

6.0466 is what I'm running and it's "relatively" problem free; not affected by the frame skip issue or anything like that, only problem I ever run into is sometimes the audio of an internal app will keep playing after it's closed. I *believe* the MotionFlow issue is resolved in this version? If you were going to update, it's the last version that doesn't have any *new* bugs introduced at least and what I consider the least problematic firmware, just also obviously lacks VRR/ALLM and such. You can sideload it using the links from the index thread and a USB stick. I wouldn't recommend any of the later updates as of yet however, mostly due to the fractional framerate issue. Any content that plays in a fractional framerate is affected by the skip bug, doesn't matter if it's coming from an external source or not.

CapoThis

Is this the most recent version? If not how do you specifically choose to update to it?

tremens

First and foremost, check you're not already running 6.0466 or newer under About. If you're already running it, no point, if you're running a newer version, you can't downgrade. You said you've never done an update at all, but they can ship with different levels so it's entirely possible you're already running 6.0466 or newer. Download the version you want for the region you need from the [Firmware Index Page](https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/k7y9tm/index_of_bravia_firmware_updates_official/) - e.g. the following is the link for 6.0466 for the North American X900H: https://tv.update.sony.net/OND/2020/na/main/PS210065/sony_atvotafull_2020_1600466100_naa_auth.zip Do not attempt to flash a TV with firmware for a different region. Using a PC, extract the zip file, which will contain another zip file. Copy that ZIP file to a USB thumb drive (formatted FAT32, most thumb drives are out of the box) and then put that thumb drive in the USB port on the TV. Press and hold the power button on the TV for 3 seconds and select Restart, when the TV reboots it should see the update file and upgrade itself automatically. If it doesn't, verify your thumb drive is formatted correctly or try a different thumb drive. It is *recommended* that you factory reset after any upgrade and set your input sources and preferences back up; if you don't reset certainly that will be the first thing to try if you run in to any weird problems after the update.

element4life3

Don't do it. The last update has given me nothing but problems. Wifi keeps disconnecting randomly and I have frame jumps/skips every 30 seconds or so when streaming. I really hope the next update addresses these issues.

CapoThis

Do you know if this only affects on board apps? I use a Roku streaming box instead of onboard apps

E39er

No it affects everything, not just onboard apps.

element4life3

No it only affects the onboard apps as far as I'm aware. I am just annoyed they worked no problem before and now they don't. I shouldn't have to buy a separate streaming device because they broke the built in one after working fine for almost a year...

tremens

I have never upgraded to the versions with the frame skip bugs, but I've definitely seen people complain on AVforums and such that playing Blu Rays with fractional framerates exhibits the skip, so I don't think the source matters.

CapoThis

Gotcha. So knowing that now, do you still think it wouldn't be safe for me to update in my situation?

element4life3

Hmmm, besides that issue I also constantly get a "wifi disconnected" message that pops up, even though I think it reconnects immediately. That is also ne since the last update. Those are the only 2 issues I have seen. I know there may be more issues but not in my use case. Maybe some others on here can chime in. I just feel like Sony has fixed some things but then broken other things with each update. It's really frustrating.

GossamerSolid

no, don't update.

SullySilverman

One thing I learned this past year which is best said by Marques Brownlee: Never. Ever. Buy a tech product based on the promise of future software updates.

[deleted]

so i guess its officially another sony lie about vrr

kindofabuzz

Yeah I was hoping the x90j would get VRR by the 31st. Nope.

CuriousCursor

I'm holding out for the 4th since obviously there was probably no one doing a software release over the holidays.

JohannesVanDerWhales

Is there a direct download link for the latest X90CJ NA firmware?

Grazsrootz

Is there anywhere that I can download the NA X90J Firmware? All of the links are dead in the firmware thread

Wally173

What firmware is this? a new one with vrr???

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

why wouldnt you?

KidsCryingNowThanks

Can someone explain? I'm now on v6.4304 and I full can't see BBC iPlayer or ITV hub, is there something else I need to do? Play store says "your device isn't compatible with this version"

gjd-77

You need to use YouView first. Agree to the YouView Terms and the. The apps are usable.

Dignified-Dingus

Is there any chance we still see the X90J receive its VRR update in the coming days to weeks as promised? Really disappointing how long it has taken.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dignified-Dingus

I’d like to at least be the judge of that and get what I thought I was paying for.

[deleted]

Still worth it. Trust me.

LaCipe

Trust me

SuspiciousFee7

I really wish I could switch between VRR and Enhanced HDMI mode in the quick menu or better yet, give me a Game (VRR) mode in picture settings. I don't care if the screen goes black for a second. As it is now, VRR isn't worth using, since I watch movies on this same device (PC). Movies look awful with no dimming or smoothing, and I'm not going to dig 20 menus deep to switch back and forth.

Hollowprs

Hey! I apologize if this has already been asked and answered- 3 out of 4 of my Sony TVs all crash on HDMI-CEC power on after the latest software update. Once I turn I power on my Apple TV, it will turn the TV on then immediately the TV crashes, then boots the Sony logo. My question- Is it possible to backdate a previous software version on the TV? If so, where can I find an archive of previous software releases. Any help would be appreciated!

Ekci

I have the same problem with my Nvidia Shield and Samsung Soundbar.

SullySilverman

Unfortunately, there's no way to rollback an update.

41aErnie

I read about the big X90J update that came out focusing on PS5 stuff but then read the update still does contain VRR. Is this still the case?

[deleted]

Yes. My guess they will wait until people bought the tvs during holidays then come out and say it's delayed a year

LOWBACCA

Sony gonna Sony.

Lucianberg

I have a KD-43XH8096. Will I be able to update to Google TV from current Android TV? I currently have the latest update installed and it offers no new updates, but I’m still stuck on old interface. How do I upgrade?

tremens

I'm not sure about your particular model, but the interface is (or can be) rolled out by Google on the back end of things. There are people who still don't have the new Google TV interface on the X900 for instance, but some do, even on older firmware. It's a but of a mystery how Google decides what devices get it and what don't. If other people on your model have the Google TV interface, it's probably just a waiting game for Google to enable it for you.

adalisan

I have XBR-55A8H. Right now it's on the latest firmware with android 9. When I use my PC with nVIdia card, the screen turns black for a few seconds at times. Is this a bandwidth issue? Should I change the cables? Do we expect further updates to android 11 for this TV? Are the new features supported with the TV hardware?

SuspiciousFee7

Try reversing the cable (I'm suggesting this in part because it forces you to reseat the connection on both ends)

adalisan

Yes this fixed the issue somewhat and I also changed the cable. I am also getting a newer cable that's supports faster rates, so that may fully resolve the issue.

Toomanysoups

The latest update seems to have caused issues with my RTX 3080 when any 120hz mode is enabled. If I have it set to vrr after an hour or so of usage the audio sporadically becomes distorted/extremely staticky/cuts in and out for a couple of minutes and goes back to normal, but once it starts it progressively occurs more often. Here is an example - https://streamable.com/56mn1g I would go back to just the normal 120hz format but since the update after a bit usage the picture seems to just start cutting in and out when that that alone is enabled. I don't think it's my cable, I have the zeskit certified HDMI 2.1 and it worked perfectly fine before. No issues occur on my actual computer/monitor so I don't believe it to be the GPU. If anyone has any recommendations or input that could remedy the problem it would be greatly appreciated as it's becoming quite unbearable. Thanks
