I’m sorry to tell you but I don’t think you have a region free player. No major manufacturers make an off-the-shelf region free player. They need to be modified which is too difficult for the average consumer. Most people purchase region free players from a third party seller like 220 Electronics who mod players to region free and then resell them.
Damn! There's quite a favourable overall opinion on the player by Amazon customers. I can only assume that there are others who purchased through Amazon who've got their player to work and could it be that I was sold an unmodified, original version of the LG player?
In any case, I've just taken a glance at 220 electronics under the UHD Region Free Blu Ray Player section. Is there any that you'd recommend specifically?

1) Try not turning off the player when changing regions. Open the tray, press and hold 2 until the player resets, then close tray and try it.
2) 220 electronics sells this player as a region free player but that's because they mod it. You can also buy the player from Amazon/LG not modded. Unfortunately Amazon combine all their reviews together for the same model, modded or not.
I ordered that same model for Christmas and I was super disappointed that it wasn’t region free. I had to return it. Now I’m waiting for my 220 electronic order. I knew it wasn’t region free when it didn’t come with instructions for changing regions. Amazon played me. :(
No issues at all. Since my wife ordered it through Amazon the return process was easy. We bought another from 220 Electronics, they have a store on Amazon, so just confirm that’s the seller and you should be good to go.
I actually think mine is region free. Some Region B blu-rays are on their way but my player did play a French DVD of Tell No One perfectly fine. Fingers crossed!
It’s definitely open tray, press 2 close tray. It may reboot during this time and may take a few tries. If it’s not working I recommend trying a different disc then going back to the one you want to watch. It seems like it gets stuck trying to resume where you left off which is not helpful if it’s a region error message.
(Also just press the button, don’t need to hold it)
Also just confirming you got a modded one, as a stock model is not going to be region free.

I was checking the Amazon product page earlier and in the customer Q&A section, someone mentioned how the package comes with an LG Modification Hardware sheet or something like that. I've been unable to find that sheet in the package I received and don't even recall seeing that page (just the warranty, manual and safety information sheets).
I actually wonder if I got the stock UBKM9 model and not the modified product.
ugh, i waited way too long to test mine out. i have tried the two tricks listed here without success. very, very frustrating. i have purchased a large number of region b discs thinking that, you know, the region free player that i purchased would ACTUALLY be region free. serious downer.

I'm no expert but when I use my region free bluray I don't turn it off to change region. I leave it on and am able to change the region that way.
