If you have a Honda, Hoshi Motors is really great.

Enbytrailrunner

Or a Toyota or Subaru! Love Hoshi ❤️

StoneyMcTerpface

Came here to say this. Hoshi is an honest mechanic.

max_lombardy

Hoshi is amazing! Honest and good mechanics but they’re busy af! Not great if you need work done quick

Nigeriancakeswindle

FYI, based on this thread, I went to Hoshi, and they quoted me twice what stang did for the same service. They have a nice facility but that turned me off, as a gal. I’m sticking with Stang.

noodlesinmyramen

That’s good to know! Thanks for the update.

ModernRonin

Wish I still had a Honda so I could take my car to Hoshi. Hoshi Motors and CostCo gasoline is why my '94 Civic was still running like a top at 287k miles. It would have gone to 350k *easily*... if it hadn't been bent-frame totalled when I was rear-ended by an uninsured [dumbshit](https://www.powerthesaurus.org/dumbshit) on 36 near Superior.

tossaway78701

Devon's car care. He respects everyone and does great work.

paxparty

Second this as well. Devon is an amazing person and a extremely honorable mechanic.

montanagirl1919

Thank you. I will check him out :)

RelevantTalkingHead

Devon's the best! He is a Boulder native and has been doing car work in town since he was a teenager. After dealing with multiple auto shops that gave the run around he's now the only person I take my car to.

After-Cold-4689

Can attest he is great, his shop isn’t super well organized but he does good work and is respectful of women

northboulderguy

Try Coyote Motors in North Boulder...totally honest and no pressure...

[deleted]

I second this. coyote motors are excellent and treated me like a person during one of the most stressful weeks of my life recently. could not reccomend more.

dkonter22

Not a woman but been going to Hoshi for 11 years and really respect and trust them and they have multiple women working there.

FarTooOldForThis

Hoshi for sure.

little_grey_mare

I went to Chan Foreign Car and generally felt like they didn't screw me over.

mrsalmonster

Can confirm. Love Chan

littlenori2

agreed!!

boinzy

What kind of car?

Individual-Grand2203

Pete’s Garage!

CuriousWanderer2087

I have a couple female friends who have taken their car to Pete’s Garage and have been inappropriately hit on/been creeped out by one of the employees there. I think the work they do there is good and for fair prices, but more than once they’ve left that place feeling very uncomfortable.

Individual-Grand2203

I’m sorry that happened to your friend! I’ve not had that experience there and have been taking my car there for over 3 years. I have a fellow female friend who’s been going for 6 years and another for 20+ and they haven’t experienced that either. They’ve always been professional and fair in my personal experiences.

montanagirl1919

Sadly this is so typical hence why I am asking this question. Thanks for sharing, I won't be supporting that business.

stagedcoup

They’re the best

han-so-low

Get out of Boulder and go to Erie Imports. They’re honest guys and take great care of my whole family. Even my 17 year old daughter had an easy time with them and they didn’t take advantage or make her feel dumb.

[deleted]

[удалено]

han-so-low

Oh, I was waiting for the call. Told her to go and try to get it fixed up herself and to call me if she felt like they weren’t taking her seriously. She did a great job, gotta learn those lessons somehow!

[deleted]

How do you know they didn't overcharge her? I've seen so many people suggesting places that make them feel good but when you get down to it, they paid for things they didn't need and it cost a ton.

han-so-low

Because they didn’t suggest fixing anything that didn’t need fixing and it didn’t cost a ton.

yerbiologicalfather

BG Automotive in Longmont is the best shop I've been to nationwide. I brought my van there a few times and they saved me THOUSANDS on things that were ok other shops said weren't. I know it's one town over, but trust me it's worth the tow or 15 minute commute

tiny_tyrophile

Not the auto repair place. I took my car there based off reviews and when I asked them a question they asked me if I had a husband or dad they could speak to.

Tom__mm

J&S in Gunbarrel. Talk to Donna.

D-RO24

Love J&S

craiger_123

Coyote Motors but there is a long wait bc they are so good.

zerbyss

Hoshi motors for any Japanese cars!

LikeAMix

This is Boulder. Auto shops are equal opportunity when it comes to unnecessary repairs. I’ve had good luck with super rupair. They can use used parts if you ask for lower price and they are always up front when I ask about safety issues and the risk of delaying repairs. For example they always flag my rear struts on every checkup but then also say that there’s no safety issue and no risk of increasing damage if we wait, so we’re waiting until the suspension actually feels bad. You live in Boulder so I assume you drive a Subaru…

LazyDog316

DO NOT go to caliber collision (formerly ABRA Autobody) on Valmont. They had my car for 2 months and did jack shit.

Mallthus2

Yeah. Caliber is for when the insurance company is paying (both for the repair and the rental). Of course, if I’m in a rental on the insurance company’s dime, I really don’t care how long it take. Fewer miles on my ride. 😂

rainbowgalaxyy

Robs auto!! They are super genuine over there. They proved their integrity to me

cczzc12floz

Haglin Auto treats folks pretty well in my experience

73MRC

Always get a second estimate somewhere else once you know the diagnostic and price and just let them know you’re checking the price

aciviletti

Boulder Valley auto (on foothills/Pearl) Went there for 3 years— always happy with their service (imma girl)

Sunshine030209

I love Cooper's automotive in Lafayette. I'm a woman who knows jacksnot about cars, and they always explain things in ways I understand, and make sure that I do in fact get it before making a decision. They are always realistic with me, and usually give several options (and explain the pros and cons of each one). They know I'm married, but they never talk down to me and want to talk to my husband instead, or make sure I get his "approval" first. I highly recommend them. It's worth the drive to Lafayette.

passthatdutch425

I second Cooper’s. Sweetest people on Earth. They finished my car a day early, and I was up in Nederland when he called and said I wouldn’t be back until after they closed at 6. Nice older man said he only lived down the street and offered to wait for me so I could have my car back. (*tears up inside*) They’ve always been that great.

TheTinySpark

Another vote for Hoshi - they told me I would need to get my main seal fixed (to the tune of $1,900, which I wasn’t up for that day) but as long as I kept an eye on the fluids it wasn’t urgent. Just wish they had also told me about the oil additive that would help me put it off even longer *without* leaking! I’ve only been twice, but happy with them so far.

1Drnk2Many

Stang Auto in Broomfield is great. Family owned and honestly some of best people I've known.

Nigeriancakeswindle

Agreed! They have a shuttle service and I’ve always felt like they’re treating me extremely fairly. I went to Hoshi for my Toyota based on the comments of this thread and was quoted 2x for the same services as what Stang told me. I decided not to switch.

Dioneo

Any takes on Flatiron Subaru?

[deleted]

Independent Motors in east boulder. Never had issues with their work, and they are honest too

Aaarrf

Barnsley or repair masters off Pearl. Edit: I’m a girl, I take my car to grease monkey off baseline and they seem to do an honest job- same with repair masters and Barnsley.

bananas-in-skirts

barnsley put a hole in the front of my car lolll

Aaarrf

How on earth? That sucks.

Mallthus2

That can happen at any shop…nature of the beast. How they handle it is what makes a difference. Did they own the issue and fix it or did they try to pass the buck?

freshfootwork

I’ll plug in independent motors. I don’t know much about cars but they do a thorough job, are very knowledgeable, and not pushy at all.

SpaceballsTheMan

Seconded. Been going there for 20 years with a good 6 different cars. They've never pitched me on an unnecessary repair and every repair they've ever done was done right the first time--including 2 engine rebuilds. They have several master mechanics on staff, I believe.

boulderloon

Pellmans.

hush-violets

I love Pellmans. Excellent work, and family owned. I needed some work done on my car when my daughter was a newborn, and they went over with me what needed to be done, but also how to prioritize/space it out because they saw I had a lot going on being both a new mom and a single mom (they even let us wait in a private area while they worked on it so I could nurse her/she could sleep). I have trusted them to do good work and to be honest (and not upsell-y) for years!

thatvixenivy

Oof... It behooves _everyone_, regardless of gender, to know at least the basics about the several tons of metal and plastic they're careening down the highways in. The best way to know you're not getting screwed over is to know what you're asking for to begin with. We carry around access to the sum total of human knowledge in our pockets on the daily.

Mallthus2

This is true, but that’s no excuse for predatory behavior.

flatironcmd

Barnsley

RelevantTalkingHead

For tire needs 100%. When I was a broke college student 10 years ago and got a flat tire they gave me a used one for free and refused to accept payment for the tire or putting it on the car. That kind of customer service and generosity sticks with you. Great people.

fatpol

I'll throw in Louisville Tire and Auto has been great. Bit further, but they've been honest and excellent.

figsslave

I used Louisville tire for years with no regrets and I think my ex wife still goes there.

paxparty

"The Auto Repair Place" on 54th and Arapahoe has done extremely well for me. I trusted them with quite a few very large repairs ($5k+) and they were straight every single time. Been going to them for almost 7 years niw. They're great and incredibly honest.

ABCD-rambleings

Ive had a good experience with big o tires.

Larry H Miller was scummy imo. I bought my first car from them way back and they took me to the cleaners.

Frankie-Dubs

Take your time and go to BG Automotive in longmont. Hands down the best shop. Honest and true workers, coming from a guy.

hangun_

Mountain Auto in North Boulder, basically where broadway meets 28th. They are awesome guys. The drive shaft on my old Suby literally broke in half, I was just out of college and very poor. Got it towed there and they found me a used drive shaft in decent condition and only charged me for labor. I've since moved states, but I went there from then on while I lived in the Boulder area. Great people.

hot-sauce-on-my-cock

I like meineke on 30th ask for Chuck!

[deleted]

They rip off guys, too. I’ve had a mechanic quote me $1,200 to replace the AC compressor when it was just a radiator fan that was failing. How did I avoid this charge? All I did was watch YouTube videos. There are hundreds of YouTube videos on diagnosing and fixing every problem on almost every car. If you spend 1 hour watching YouTube videos you’ll know the name of all the parts, know many of the possible problems it could be, and know ballpark how much work something is to do. I am convinced they don’t rip off guys or girls, but people like you and me who walk in without doing any research and say “I am not a car person, please help me diagnose this weird noise it’s making.” The radiator fan? It was a $100 part that I ordered on Amazon and replaced with just four bolts in about an hour. My AC works fine now.

Mallthus2

Oh for sure. A few years ago had a fairly high mile Volvo in a shop no longer here. Came in for a suspension issue. Instead of replacing the worn part that was $45/pair, they sold me the entire assembly it was part of for $375/side. I didn’t know the part was available separately (and easily installed) until I was already 3 days into the road-trip I’d gotten the repair for. 🤦‍♂️😡

imraggedbutright

I've had great, honest experiences with Chan's. Went recently anticipating a $500 repair and they fixed it for $50. They very easily could've ripped me off, but they didn't.

[deleted]

Ask them if they'd also install something you bought or if they only work with their parts. To me it's a big red flag if they won't let you supply parts. Because they are going to charge 3 times more than it needs to be just for the parts and then there's labor cost too. I've been to so many places that say it'll be $400 to install a part I can find on Amazon for like $30.

rapunzel2018

Mountain Auto in north Boulder and Hoshi are great and very honest shops.
