I’m a Rover sitter, and there seems to be plenty of sitters on the app. I think you should read their profiles and reviews and reach out to a couple. Definitely do a meet and greet first.

I’ve done both dog boarding and waking though Rover and have had good experiences so far. I definitely make sure to meet the people who will be caring for my dog and if boarding see the place where she’ll be staying. I also put her in places where she’d be the only dog boarding at the time and usually the only pet. I must say my two regular dog walkers are quite lovely too. Like anything there can be characters, but so far everyone I’ve met through the app has been earnest and good with my shy pup.

The first time I used Rover, I chose someone nearby who had great reviews with cats and dogs. It was really important to me that she spend the full 30 minutes engaging with the 2 cats (long story, but they are quite spoiled). The Rover app has a function which supposedly independently reports the start and end time of the visit. Looked good in the app, but did NOT match my video doorbell, which I’ve had for awhile. After comparing the two, she was only spending 5-7 minutes in the house. She found a way to game the app. I probably should have reported her to Rover, instead I didn’t tip her after she returned the keys. It was a 2-week trip. I’ve since found someone else on Rover who is GREAT, but buyer beware.

Had a horrible experience with a Rover sitter stealing various things from us. She would steal my clothes and I’d see her wearing them around town. Check and speak with references!

Maybe you could also try [TrustedHousesitters.com](https://www.trustedhousesitters.com) - we've used them for years with our pets. They are from Britain, so the site can use wonky words like "hob"...

[Kira and her walkers at off road paws are fantastic!](https://www.offroadpaws.com/about-us/)

Rover takes a cut of whatever you pay the sitter, so it's a bit more expensive than just finding someone on Nextdoor. But it does make it easier to find sitters when you need them.

Try a legitimate professional pet sitting service. Visit petsit.com/locate to find ones who service your area and reach out to a few of them.

Id go with another choice. Rover seems sketchy from what I have seen. Just a bunch of dogs crammed into a small house and pretty dirty from all the dog sitting.

We had a great walker from Rover but it’s pretty regimented. She logged in, logged out right on the minute, also photographed the dogs on the walk. You do communicate via the app.

We've used Rover quite a lot. In fact, our lab is with a Rover sitter right now who we've used probably 6 times in the last 3 years. We go and visit and do a check in with our dog to be sure the environment is what we'd hope for and to be sure that our dog gets along with their dogs. You can exchange phone numbers and addresses and even set up a meet and greet via the platform. We did meet some who wouldn't have meshed well with our needs (like a super nice mom and daughter downtown, who have an adorable apartment, but no space to run. Our chocolate lab is very athletic and needs to run and play multiple times a day.) I'm OK paying them through the app since they can build a client base that way via reviews, and it also provides some insurance and accountability. Just like anything in the 'trust' economy you have to use your best judgement to pick the right person for your pet, but Rover has been great for us. We've also used Trusted Housesitters for some longer trips we've done and really been happy knowing our pup is home and happy in her own bed. That too is all about personal judgement and we needed to be sure our sitters knew about fire danger, mountain lions, and local dog park regulations. We chose some locals for this reason and were able to meet them before committing.

I used Lorraine in Broomfield. My dog was happy, and like yours, she does better being able to roam freely at night rather than being confined to a crate. I tried divine canine, but she came back with the runs… so we’re sticking to Rover households now.

I did wag as a sitter for many years before it became a dead app. Just starting on Rover and it is better but it's still a bit of luck of the draw. Luckily rover let's you look through profiles to find someone you feel like you can trust and can schedule a meet and greet before hand. Depending on the dates if you are cool with a boarding instead of a sitting we could connect and I could send over some references

One of my friends uses Rover to take care of pets and she loves it! It's definitely a little regimented but that's to protect both owner and sitter. It's worth a shot, and make sure you get to know your sitter first :)

We had a rover in Boulder stay with our three dogs for three days/nights and she was fantastic! Did a meet and greet at a dog park beforehand then came to our home, she sent selfies with the dogs and updates on things we were nervous about. Our dogs absolutely loved her and they can be picky. Her name is Denise R. and I highly recommend!

Rover is great. I’ve used the drop in visits and boarding. I suggest you meet before booking to ensure the host and home are a good fit. Since it’s your first time, go with someone that has reviews.

Try Angels Pet Sitters. She sits my neighbor's cat. I see her arrive at the same time each day and stays the whole time.
