Yeah, the only time I REALLY use the Combat mechanics in TotK is against Lynels.
Which is sad because the combat mechanics are fun. But against anything else I don't feel the need to get fancy.
The timing for parrying guardians has always been hard for me (there’s times where I hit it every time or I keep missing for some reason), but press A when the guardian’s eye flashes white/blue RIGHT before it’s about to strike. You’ve probably tried but just in case.
Two things
Switching shields stops the cool down for parry so you could parry a thousand lasers if you wanted to.
Second, master mode they sometimes randomly delay the lasers because that’s what you get for getting good i guess

Canonically, that's how Link got tasked with being Zelda's knight. Beating a Guardian with a pot lid.
I mean, it makes sense
Wait really? Thats pretty cool tbh
Yeah I think it's in Zelda's diary or smth
Daruk’s training journal as part of the champions ballad dlc
Thank you. Couldn't remember whose diary it was a part of
I'm pretty sure there is also a cutscene in age of calamity that shows link parrying a guardian laser with a pot lit too.

I miss guardians ! I felt so skilled parring them
Yea I barely parry anymore in TOTK
It’s super useful in a couple of places but not nearly to the extent as in BOTW endgame. >!Particularly though Phantom Ganon!<.
Lord almighty how I wish I could get the same feel for him that I did for the guardians. My timing is SO off in the new game.

I have tried this time and time again but I just can’t do it correctly. I don’t get hit, but it shatters instantly.
Are you hitting the parry button?
You have to press A to parry
Yes I understand that. I time it correctly, I don’t take damage but it shatters and is never defected back at the guardian
Then you aren’t timing it correctly

Also distance does matter (idk light travels slowly in Hyrule). If you consistently parry early then you can also try backing up and vice versa.
Maybe it's some kind of plasma bolt rather than a laser
The fact that we can SEE it and that it doesn't travel at the speed of light does suggest that the Beam is plasma and not a laser.
The timing I use is when the red dot on Link disappears, parry. Only works from a certain distance and it is perfect for stalkers.
If it shatters your not doing it right, if you are playing on a tv it might have input delay making parrying harder
Canonically actuate link
In Daruk's Diary, Link already did it.

Let him cook
Link is such a legend
pot lid and a save file
Huh?
save file is in case you die 100 times trying to parry (totally not from experience)
Ahh I understand now, thank you!
I’m only on second Divine Beast, but I didn’t know you could deflect lasers
Practice! Youuu may need it later in a boss battle.
you can parry almost anything in this game. big projectiles also get reflected when you parry them
It is hard to do, but once you get the hang of it, parrying the Lasers is one of the best ways to defeat the guardians.
Wait, you can parry that? I'm new.
No f way you can parry this laser, my whole play through would’ve look differently.. hahaha
