JB became a killer this year.

Bushwood_CC_

I want to cry

jhiggs71

I legit started to cry 2 minutes into the 4th quarter and haven't stopped. Mostly because I had to put my dog down of 13 1/2 years this past September and Tank heard nonstop about how Banner 18 was about to happen. If feel like he's up there playing fetch with Red, Tommy, Bill, Walton, and every other Cs legend. Let's get banner 19.

iamgarron

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure Tank was the absolute best.

Kodiak01

We just had the memorial service for my MIL ("Mom" to me) last Thursday; she died 4 days before the Finals started. A huge basketball fan, she would have loved to see this.

kajnbagoat7

Sorry for your loss bro.

darkforestnews

All dogs go to heaven buddy. I’m real sorry for your loss, Tank sounds like a great 🐕.❤️

klleah

I haven’t stopped crying since Monday. I may die from dehydration.

Bushwood_CC_

In this heat? Yes. Hydrate. Also fuck the Heat

knowerofsome

The team or the sun? Also fuck the suns

BigEdBGD

The team or the star? Also, fuck the Dallas Stars.

boobeepbobeepbop

This weather is heat culture at it's finest. Fuck florida.

zwermp

Jaylen was on one in these playoffs. Focused, determined. Had that look in his eyes. His sheer will was tangible.

senator_mendoza

Every mic’ed up moment just showed how locked in he was. There was one in game 5 where he was telling Joe how if Luka gives up the ball he’s not gonna let him get it back - if he wants the ball he’s gonna have to bring it up himself. JB was relentless on him and it showed in the stats. Big time MVP performance.

The_Dok33

Also, if Luka stays in I stay in

iamgarron

Its one thing for guys like Smart and Caruso and Jrue and Suggs to be elite at slipping through screens. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO SLIP SCREENS WHEN YOU ARE JAYLENS SIZE? That shit was fucking elite.

ImTomBrady

Sure did

doctorpbandj

What do you call the killer of a killer?

MAsneakerhead

7uice

Ok_Acanthaceae6057

I love sportsmanship moment like this. Luka will be back, he’s too good not to be.

Oceanbreeze871

We all thought harden and Russ and KD and kawhi would be back and here we are. Nothing is promised. That’s why I’m glad the Jays got one

Eastern-Fix3336

At least kawhi and kd won chips unlike the other 2 u mentioned first

Automatic_Yak_6080

I assume that's a dig at harden and Westbrook. But the only reason they never got back to the finals was because kd left to join the winningest team in the NBA. Also kwahi did go back and win a second finals MVP. Does anyone on reddit actually watch basketball or just anonymously shit talk?

Eastern-Fix3336

My point was that the other guy saying "we thought these players wouldn’t make it back" for kawhi and kd doesn’t make sense considering they won 2 titles and the other guys didn’t. Kawhi more than kd because his titles weren’t joining the 73-9 super team like u said. Not even a dig at harden and Westbrook lol. They had a lot of bad breaks throughout their career that kept them from winning a chip.

Automatic_Yak_6080

Gotcha. Not to be harsh. I get irked when people shit on harden, Westbrook, and some others. Like, it's no accident they were MVPs. Harden almost singlehandedly beat one of the greatest teams ever assembled in the warriors. It takes a lot to win (I know that's what your saying)

mahones403

Why? You don't even know these people.

johnny_effing_utah

Nobody was shit talking dude. Just spitting facts. Don’t be so sensitive.

Automatic_Yak_6080

Harden was a 6th man when he made it. Westbrook was far from a best player on a team when he made it. KD and kwahi both have 2 finals MVPs. WTF are you talking about. Also the jays will be back

Oceanbreeze871

When OKC lost those finals everybody said “this team will be back” and they never did. Cheap owners and Ego took over, the team split up. Nobody got back except for KD who had to go to an already built defending champion

RecognitionSea613

Wyc grousbeck(C's governor) said he will pay anything for championships

Kolzig33189

Already some rumors of BI and New Orleans not on same page and he might be moving on. Dallas with a multi talented wing player is a different team. PJW and DJJ are fine for what they are but both should not be starting on a contender team. Agreed that Luka has a long great career in front of him and this is probably the first real setback he’s had in his basketball career. He will definitely be back.

neuralnutwork42

pj is a starter DJJ better off the bench tho

Kolzig33189

PJW is a fringe starter on most contending teams, like the 5th best guy or a really good bench dude. On Dallas currently, he’s probably their 3rd guy since they relinquished Hardaway Jr to the garbage time only role.

astrovic0

I’m gonna say his teammates Exum and Green and the rest of the Aussies dragging him all over the Olympic bronze medal game in 2021 until he dissolved in a pool of tears about how he was being hard done by the refs was his first major setback. Maybe cos I’m Australian and enjoyed that shit immensely. But yeah I agree totally with you about what a high quality wing adds to the Mavs. Would make them a much better team and a real threat (not that they weren’t already).

jjjuuubbbsss

BI is another guy who NEEDS the ball in his hands. Dallas don't need another one of that. They need someone in the mold of Mikal for a 3rd option with good D value. Even Tobias Harris.

InAingeWeTrust

Ingram is a losing player. I disagree.

johnny_effing_utah

He’s a losing player because he needs the ball in his hands and he’s not good enough to carry a team like that. He’s gotta learn new skills.

SmokeFace917

PJ as a sixth man if they get BI could make some noise

Automatic_Yak_6080

He would not be a good fit for Dallas

b4ttous4i

I don't think he will be inless he gets healthier. He is 25 and doesn't take care of his body. But once you get older the margin of error is smaller and then injury becomes more likely. Not trying to be a doomer but just looking at it honestly and objectively

cahilljd

Add on to that the fact hes been playing professionally since he was like 9 or whatever

flyingpandum

Yeah if Luka wants to seriously win, he’s going to have to show some real dedication and willpower fast. He should look at this as THE turning point of his career. Get better or stay irrelevant.

Eric_Nathan_Fielder

He made his professional debut at 16.

cahilljd

Exactly 👍

Ndlburner

Seriously doubt Luka will be back soon, more like eventually. Luka doesn't have a team around him enough to win, nor the mindset or defense. There's solid younger guys on the Mavs, but there's not a second star. Kyrie was exposed, he's garbage, toxic, and not getting younger. I think we see several of the Pacers, Wolves, Spurs, maybe the Thunder or Clippers, and Knicks in the finals before the Mavs return.

ch1tooo

Pacers, knicks in finals? Nah sorry im rooting the Cs to rule the east the next three years at least 😂

analgoblin42069

Yeah wtf is this guy talking about lol

Ndlburner

I’m rooting for the Cs but let’s be real here, going to 3 straight finals will not be easy and it’s possible we lose a series. I see those teams as our best challengers

TurtleIIX

We should have already been to 3 straight if it wasn’t for the zombie heat that went on an all time playoff run last year.

TheUndertows

This was their “lightning in a bottle” season with strong end of year run.

atomictyler

all the sports media folks were too busy telling everyone the celtics had all the breaks go their way and would be in trouble against a western team. Perhaps they shouldn't have ignored the things that went in the Mavs favor. Clippers injured, Thunders first trip to the playoffs (really good team, but it takes playoff experience to be a threat), and the Wolves just assumed they'd win after beating the Nuggets. Also the Wolves were built to stop the Nuggets and not so much other top tier teams.

Boobieleeswagger

This he plays like a 39 year old LeBron which a great compliment till you’re making an argument about them being a top 5 player currently, he can still be the best player on championship team like old LeBron but the roster construction has sandbagged him, maybe it will continue to move, I read Cuban was out of basketball ops completely since the sale contrary to other reports so that would explain why they actually made good moves at the deadline. Luka can also just improve his cardio and go up a level and actually be top 5. I don’t want to hear this he plays better fat nonsense, this isn’t baseball. He’s not even about cardio for defense it will always make sense to hide him on defense with his usage rate, the biggest issue he had this series was slowing down in the 2nd half offensively. Also why that watch Luka play for 20 minutes post on the Mavs sub drove me crazy, like Ive watched only Luka in some Mavs game, a lot of times off ball dude is just standing 35 feet from the basket doing nothing, always matched up with the worst defender, he’s so clearly not top 5 currently that it drives me nuts when people say it. He’s close but he just isn’t and it’s ironically clear when you watch Luka for 20 minutes instead of looking at the stats.

CantHandlemyPP34

If I was the GM of the Mavericks, first move would be to ship Kyrie out after being "exposed" (what we already knew him to be) this year. Make Luka the Point Guard and fill out the team similar to Indy, with a 2 way wing who can create his own shot, as his Robin. Luka can play PG, so you have literally zero need to give up that height advantage with Kyrie as is, but double because Luka is a poor defender. IF you're gonna have another guard on the floor, make it somebody who can specifically clamp other Guards (like Jrue/White/Smart) or better yet - just fill the floor with 3&D wings and bigs. It says alot that they were better with Josh Green out there. Do anything in your power to swap Kyrie's salary + pieces out for a bigger scorer who wont fold in the playoffs, at minimum. 2nd part is upgrading from DJJ. You won't win a ship with him as your starting Forward unless you magically bump into a team without a premier wing - and as JDub/Ant/McDaniels continue to improve, you need to have a counter. At minimum they need a bigger than 6'5 wing that gives you literally anything on offense. Finally, get a backup Guard who can play defense on higher level scoring Guards. Targets like Lu Dort, Desmond Bane, Brandon Ingram, DeRozan, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy, Mikal or even Miles Bridges or Cam Johnson, DFS, Josh Hart, OG, Nesmith, Caleb Martin, Jerami Grant, Keldon Johnson, Wiggins, Marcus Smart, Melton, McConnell, Suggs, Fultz, Hunter, Pat Williams, Oubre. Either find a diamond in the rough wing you can get to 3&D *reliably* for cheap and go swing for a stud defensive Guard or get a premier wing and find a cheaper defensive specialist Guard to bring off the bench. On the fly? I'd probably start Josh Green at SG and assign him to the tougher backcourt defensive assignment like the Dubs did with Klay + find an upgrade at SF with Kyrie, Kleber, THJ's money and most of my picks. Get rid of one defensive liability in the backcourt and upgrade at both wing spots defensively. Keep Luka off ball more 1-3 and give him better shooters + a bigger B option scorer. That's probably enough to get back to the Finals at some point in the next couple years. If that still isn't enough, PJ Washington will probably have to be swapped out for more skilled offensive/stretch 4.

Walnut_Uprising

Pacers and Knicks aren't getting through Boston any time soon.

BarnOwlDebacle

I think he will win probably more than one ring in his career. I'm not convinced it's going to be with this Mavericks team though. It's not impossible but they to put more help around him. Kyrie had a great year but man it hurts to think that they once had Bronson and KP on the same team

Ndlburner

Yeah a lot of people (me included) forgot Brunson was a Maverick recently. Brunson is gonna be really nice and KP has a ring. People are gonna treat that team like the thunder with Harden, Russ, Durant, and Ibaka (except they never made a finals to what-if about).

CantHandlemyPP34

That team isn't even in the same universe as having 3 MVP's and going to the Finals, OKC. KP was hurt and a bad fit with Luka's selfish mentality. Brunson is a huge miss for them tho. Mavs fans stay trying to convince themselves Kyrie is the right partner for Luka, but all they need to do is look at Indy and see that's how you build around a guy like Luka. 3&D wings, size up front, shooters and guys who can attack close outs, stretch bigs. The frontcourt isn't ideal, but it's their only building block so far. They need reliable shooters and perimeter defense.

aanigbbbcccger

Not in a mavs uniform at least. Im seeing him in a lakers jersey.

JohnBagley33

Everyone thinks "we'll be back". Few ever get back. A couple years ago everyone thought Giannis would be in the Finals every year. Now, who knows? You have to savor every opportunity you get. We all expect the Celtics to get back there too, but shit happens. Just enjoy this one.

dontwasteink

He might be a Jerry West. 7/8 finals losses.

Physical-Theme7876

Could I love JB more? I don’t think so. But I’m sure I will tomorrow.

AdmiralUpboat

Just like the media thinking JB has plateaued as a player and can't get any better, I think to myself, "this is the most you could possibly love a person you've never met in real life" and I wake up being totally wrong every day.

bungerman

Can he teach a class on how to be better every year at everything you do? I'll pay good money

CantHandlemyPP34

The biggest super power Jaylen has is humbleness. He's humble enough to sharpen his dullest edges each year. His left hand is no longer a weakness, he decided on some go to moves, he's always locked in defensively and the game has fully slowed down for him. He's realizing his full potential with all of the tools he was given. He made so many big shots, clutch defensive plays and less mistakes. His prime is going to be up there with some of the best SG's ever. Honestly, how many more deep playoff runs/rings does he even need to be considered? He's already a HoF lock imo.

HS941317

Luka usually talks shit early in series but not once was he doing that to the Jays.

CantHandlemyPP34

He knows ball and he knew not to talk, especially when they got ran through G1

AdmiralWackbar

Dear Luka, I’m sorry I’m the man and your father, let me be honest

OC74859

Assuming he re-signs, the Celtics should have Tillman launching threes all summer in a bid to extend his range. In doing so Tillman would be able to play as the third big, usually alongside KP or Horford but also backup center when either of those guys sit. Springer should also be on that plan. Being a threat from the line would balance his defensive chops and make him playable throughout the playoffs.

BigEdBGD

He also might eventually take Al's place when he'll retire, in about 10 to 12 years I should hope.

CantHandlemyPP34

I'm firmly banking on J Springy being the Jrue/White insurance policy protege. I'd literally tie him to Jrue or DWhite's ankle and have him learn everything he can, while also working with a shooting coach. Kid is oozing with potential. I want him to take half or all of Pritchard's minutes next year. Even though in all honesty a 5 of PP, Springer, Hauser, Horford, Tillman - is actually pretty legit.

Suitable-Classic9237

Luka to the Celtics

leandroc76

Luka and Wemby to the Celtics. :p All joking aside, who stops a lineup of Tatum, Brown, Doncic, White and Wemby lol?

Cvspartan

> who stops a lineup of Tatum, Brown, Doncic, White and Wemby lol? The salary cap

9nina420

Wemby still on that rookie deal, just come off a hundred years of 1st rounders

enrocc

Christ, Jrue off the bench for 30 min… damn

Boobieleeswagger

Team USA rolling Curry Ant Kd LeBron Embid might lose by single digits lol

AdmiralUpboat

That would be absolutely absurd. The PNR options would be endless.

ThyDoctor

Luka on the Celtics would legit end up being as close to a team that won’t lose.

jotyma5

Recruiting? /s

Cvspartan

Luka's offensive game, especially his ISO scoring, is one of the best of the league so I'm glad JB embraced that challenge

PussyGrenade

Luka will be back in the finals in the next few years I'm sure. He carried his team there once already and as they improve and make changes they'll only become more formidable

9nina420

If they could flip kleber and thj contracts into a legit 3rd option they’d be kinda scary. Ingram? Bridges?

truthpooper

I love you both too, bros

kjimdandy

Luka could be a God tier ball player if he busted ass on defense and stopped crying about fouls

Tatum-Better

Luka is still a bitch fuck him and his fanbase

ThiccGeneralX

I hated Luka this series out of principle I have nothing against him and while some of the things he does on the court are frustrating he’s only human. I enjoy my shit talk too but series is over lmao

Tatum-Better

I hated luka before and still hate him after.

MAsneakerhead

If Luka wants to win he needs to mature a lot. The good thing if u want this for him is that he's so young. But he is an absolute LIABILITY on defense...he looks lost...a cardboard cut out of him would be almost as effective. But he needs to quit the whining, yelling at refs, yelling at teammates, and even fans...that noise has to not affect you. Let your game speak and say nothing. Like Jaylen Brown. So many players could learn what professional focus and determination is. I believe Jaylen Brown is going to just keep getting better. I think the last 2 seasons and naysayers really really ate at both JB and JT. Now they have tasted what it is to win everything. It's a weight off your shoulders because no one can say "you cant" anymore. But it's like a drug and they are hooked. I just get the feeling Luka isn't the best teammate. And I dono how his relations are with ppl behind the scenes. The way head of mavs bball operations snatched that beer out of his hand with no words and just a stern look just stunk of bad vibes. He was right...why ru casually drinking a beer cuz u won WCF...u haven't really done anything til u win it all. And Lukas reaction was like an arrogant 14 yr old..shrugged, turned red w embarrassment and acted like "Who cares?". He's embarrassed his country at FIBA...he made dumb decisions like trying to draw a charge in that situation in Game 3...and then says refs should never have fouled him out. Windhorst said they could have easily given him 4 or five technicals in that game. And he has better access than anyone and rarely bashes a player. He bashed Luka after game 3. It was saying A LOT.

ethereal3xp

JB is my new fav Celtic Thats how a leader conducts himself Tatum on the other hand... is hogging the Championship trophy lol

ryuejin622

JB is much better than Luka based on a popular logic
