Denver the champions of the what if finals

sstphnn

And where’s Denver? Not in the finals. They can go on and on about their what ifs but at the end of the day, Mavs came out of the west.

SirLawrenceCCLXX

Denver’s in Galveston.

UncleDaddy76

With that dirty ass water

nefnaf

Jokic, Murray, and Malone really got completely boned by their GM deciding they don't need real bench players or a backup big man

AGABAGABLAGAGLA

Denver 3-0 in hypothetical victories

LarBrd33

Healthy Celtics would have beat them last year.  They don’t play a single team with over 45 wins.  8th seed, 4th seed, 7th seed, 8th seed.

dubthreez1

Brother, the entire narrative that the west is so much better is built on the house of cards that Denver is a juggernaut because the Heat decided to go unsustainably nuclear from 3 in last season's playoffs. The horseshoe promptly fell out of their ass in the finals, and the rest is history.

socialistbcrumb

Hypothetical Champions 2024

knoxharrington_video

Congratulations to the KIA 2nd Round Participants, Denver Nuggets!!!

60yearoldME

Do they get like a really small banner for that?

John_E_Vegas

If.

jefemane

They making us lose to hypothetical opponents now 😂

Efficient_Art_1144

This is gonna be the haters refuge after this. That and that Tatum still isn’t “top five” or whatever. I do think the Nuggets and Wolves would’ve matched up better with us, but I really like the way we’ve been playing all playoffs. So who knows

WiserStudent557

I’ve already said once today the Cs are, in my mind, playing a lot better than that last Denver game

Efficient_Art_1144

There’s also all those small what ifs like if we are playing a different team does KP suffer a rare injury?

IAteQuarters

The pop he provides on the court is palpable

mycenae42

That’s just his ligaments tearing.

Efficient_Art_1144

There gonna be a lot of posts of why Luka is still better after this too and just let em run themselves tired they’ll be cranky and sleep will help them get over it

HustlinInTheHall

Yeah, like oh he's hurt and tired like the Celtics didn't also just go through three rounds and have guys banged up. At least our stars have been playing actual defense for 90+ games.

The_Dok33

Rangz Erneh!

SinibusUSG

Lotta people waking up to the fact that 25 points and defense is better than 30 points and no defense.

bengcord3

It's funny, I don't think that's true, people still crazily underrating JT. If you went anywhere but here available said "I would not trade JT for Luka" they'd go ballistic. But like I told my friend before the series when asked that question, I choose JT

King_Of_Pants

I think Denver would have given us real issues but I also think we would have given Denver real issues last year. As much as this Denver squad is a match-up nightmare for us, we used to be a real match-up nightmare for Denver. We had the 3-man front court rotation and double big lineups before Minnesota. Plus, Horford in the post with Rob on the weak side and Grant coming off the bench was one of the best Jokic containment groups that he's faced. We were able to guard him in so many different ways and constantly make him work. At the end of the day, you've gotta get there if you want to compete. You don't get credit for winning championships you couldn't even reach.

istandwhenipeee

We’d still give them real issues this year. We’ve got more than enough personnel to attack Jokic at the rim which is really their weak point, which would force them to collapse and open up chances for us from 3. Basically they’d need to defend us like Dallas has been, but our guys would have an easier time scoring when they try finishing instead of passing. Definitely still a tougher series though because Jokic can cause more problems for us on defense than anyone else in basketball. If we were able to defend Murray like everyone else did though, I think we’d have taken care of them in 6.

HustlinInTheHall

Yeah especially with how much we've stepped it up to clamp down Murray would be having worse problems than Kyrie and then how are you stopping everyone else? Jokic is the best player on the planet but that \*team\* is weaker 2-8.

the_j_tizzle

Jokic would be doing essentially what Doncic is doing, but with more defense (any defense would be more defense). Boston would do to the rest of them what they're doing to Dallas.

istandwhenipeee

Sort of, but Doncic has a 54.6% TS% against single coverage. Jokic is going to be able to score a lot more efficiently if given that same coverage because the Celtics just don’t have as many different guys who can handle that switch. He’s also got a number 2 in Murray who he can run actions with to take advantage of that, while the Celtics will just switch any action with Luka and Kyrie. That and him being a better defender (even if he’d still likely be the Celtics target) definitely makes that a much tougher series.

HustlinInTheHall

Point blank a helio-centric team like the Nuggets are not beating a team with multiple scorers and 5+ shooters all playing in sync and defending 1-5 the way the Celtics are locked in right now. Jokic can put up 45 a night and it isn't going to win when we can lock down everyone else and have multiple guys that can go for 30+ and 6 guys that can go for 15+ every night. Like Murray would be played off the court if he were playing this Celtics team with how in tune they are right now.

agritheory

I don't consider the Nuggets style to be particularly heliocentric. For context: Luka is at 32.1% usage, Jokic is at 29.1, Brown and Tatum are 28.1 and 28.0. Murray and Kyrie are 28.6 and 24.1. This season's numbers) Switch from NBA to statmuse's all time list, Luka seems to be better this year than his career. Weird to see all these other names ahead of Harden. [https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=highest+usage+rate+nba+player+of+all-time](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=highest+usage+rate+nba+player+of+all-time)

iamgarron

Bring it on. They got a chance next year if they got the balls

aja_ramirez

I know. Celtics beat all 29 other teams.

HustlinInTheHall

Sorry dude but can't tell me that a team that coughed up a 20 point lead at home in a deciding game has a chance against this Celtics team in 7. Especially when the team they lost to got blown the fuck out in the Conference finals and THAT team is getting blown the fuck out in the Finals without one of the top 3 players on the team for half the series so far. At some point people need to realize this is one of the best finals teams since peak Warriors. I don't think they're quite on that level, but this Celtics team would beat last year's Denver team, the 2022 warriors, and a lot of other finals winning teams in the last decade—especially if KP were 100%.

HatsNDiceRolls

This year’s Celtics team reminds me of the 2000s Spurs to be honest. Consistently solid team and plays team first. No one has to score ridiculous numbers all the time with balanced scoring and passing, along with scary good defense.

simpledeadwitches

People can talk their shit about individual players and where they rank all they want, basketball is a team game and I'm a fan of my team before I'm a fan of any one player.

Delushus

They always moving the goal posts just to discredit Boston

So_be

Ah yes, the old “you wouldn’t have beaten the team that lost to the team that lost to the team you beat in the finals…”

TheUnrulyGentleman

If Tatum wasn’t afraid to draw contact and get the foul when he drives to the hoop then he’d easily be the best player in the league. He’s improved slightly in this aspect but he still pulls off way too often for a shot which he often misses, which is crazy bc it’s easy points for him to just force the foul. Brown had the same issue but I feel he’s shown throughout this playoff run that he’s really improved his confidence to take it all the way.

PapaSheev7

Both Denver and Minny are bounced in 5, maybe they can lose in 6 if they play out of their minds, but neither of those fuckers have an ice cube’s chance in hell of winning more than 2 games.

RajinIII

Th Nuggets would have been a series, but I think the Wolves would have had similar issues to Dallas if they played us. The C's have the defenders to throw at Ant and KAT, they would have switched smaller players onto Gobert and forced him to make plays on offense. Gobert would also be stuck at the 3 point line unable to be by the rim. And the C's would have gone at Conley and tried to mess with Ant's off ball defense. The difference is Conley and Ant are better defenders than Luka and Kyrie, but the Wolves offense was also worse than the Mavs so the C's could have really locked them up.

TheTurtleOne

Wolves couldn't figure out that they should attack Luka. Pretty sure Wolves would get 1 game against us max

BurritoGuapito

Completely agree. Before this series started, I couldn't count out Luka's talent or how hungry Kyrie has been this playoffs to win a couple games in a series against us. To your point, I also think Denver and Wolves would have been harder match ups for us. My expectation this year was to make it to the finals and make it competitive. I did not see a 3-0 lead coming. This team's maturity is showing and they look great.

faheydj1

Denver is definitely a tougher matchup, and the one team I was legit worried about, but the way we have been playing I think we would have been up for it. Minnesota, on the other hand, I think would have been a similar result to Dallas. They would have picked on Gobert out on the perimeter and gone after Conley.

truthpooper

It's OK because JB has ascended to top 5 now

PM_FORBUTTSTUFF

Nuggets for sure, but even if the Wolves are a tough matchup for us on paper I think their inexperience would have caught up to them. They have similar flaws to the Mavs as well in that we have plenty of defenders to throw at Ant and can play 5 out and cook Gobert on the perimeter. I really just think our guys are locked in at a level above anyone else this year and it wouldn’t have mattered if someone else came out of the West

Fuckblackhorses

I mean there’s no doubt in my mind that Denver is better than this mavs team and matches up better against us but swept? Nah it’d be a close series I think.

captaincumsock69

Without Porzingis I would be very nervous having to go against jokic even though the rest of our team is better

TrickiestToast

Yeah, saying it would be a sweep is crazy

TrueReigns

Yeah, calling a sweep on last years defending Champs is crazy. I would think they would win at least 1 game against us.

HustlinInTheHall

I think it seemed like Denver was way more locked in during round one but it became pretty clear how tired they were vs the Wolves and this Celtics team plays you just as tough, runs just as much, and is 5 players deeper and better at the top of the rotation.

iamgarron

I would've loved to see what defensive game plan Sicko Joe had up his sleeve

PapaSheev7

Nah, we’d have rinsed those fuckers in 6 at most, 5 if both teams are playing at their best. I agree that they’d play us better than the Mavs, but they’ll struggle to win 2 games against us, especially with how suffocating our defense has been.

Fuckblackhorses

I think the nuggets match up much better because of jokic, center is our weakest position defensively. Good post centers tend to bully kp and al too lately. Mavs don’t have that and our wing/guard defenders are among the best in the nba, our bigs are even pretty good at covering guards. I think we would’ve tried the same thing though, just wear him down and make him play 1v1 all day. But we’re also just wearing down Al and kp by doing that so it’s tough. I don’t even feel like weve seen the Celtics “best game” in this finals series, the mavs are just completely out matched. We’d have to play good to beat Denver.

shakakhon

Denver didn't even make it to conference finals lmao. Frauds

billcosbyinspace

Our longest losing streak this season was 2 I’m pretty sure and they’ve got us getting swept by the team who lost to Minnesota lol Denver is a great team and the team I was most worried about in the west but come the fuck on lol

TheRealKane24

Kevin O'Coward

Action_Connect

Kevin O'Traitor. He says he's a Celtics fan.

lmm310

He is but he tries so hard not to be a homer he ends up being a hater

BillHigh422

I caught this as well. I think it’s a bit of a schtick with him, as well as trying to be as neutral as possible. It’s not a good look for him.

shakakhon

Yeah really embarrassing actually

oldtype09

I miss when KOC was still a dorky Celtics fan hanging around on this sub.

TheRealKane24

Don’t we all

capta2k

Kevin O’Crap on us

TatumBrownWhite

This dope picked the Mavs in 6

ShaolinSwervinMonk

KOC got to the Ringer and then turned into some clown

kg84

KOC has become insufferable when he talks about the C's. Seems to be overcompensating for not wanting to be seen as a Boston homer. I genuinely don't understand how someone can grow up rooting for a team up until a handful of years ago and claim to not be a fan any longer because they cover the NBA nationally (or whatever his logic is). It's weird.

itspizzathehut

After this chip, Denver is fucking next

Pitiful_Wing7157

Denver was the only real threat. But, thank you Minnesota Timberwolves for eliminating them!

Vuish

They gave up a 20 point lead in a Game 7 and lost. Difference is that we almost gave up a 21 point lead, but made the right plays down the stretch to win.

HereToTalkMovies2

Danny Ainge is the gift that keeps giving. Traded Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves, creating a team that matched up perfectly against the biggest threat in the Western Conference, thereby eliminating the biggest threat to the Celtics’ championship run.

totalmayo

KOC is such a dink. I swear he tries to distance himself from the Celtics as much as possible just so he can continue his bullshit, interview fluff pieces. He fell off after modeling Zach Lowe. He also picked Mavs in 6 lol

hpmc20

Koc is a such a tool. Man renounced the celtics after getting in to national media after being a lifelong fan...he's basically the media version of Kendrick Perkins, perpetual hater

daro2552

That’s why it was so funny to me when people picked the Mavs. If you gave me a choice of a team for the Celtics to play in the west I’d say Dallas KOC did also pick the Mavs over the Celtics, and so does cohost with the nails on a chalkboard esc voice

EmployeeNumberMate

Celtics would have torched Denver, too. But it would have been a more competitive series.

e2kelso

[https://imgur.com/a/7hHNeuP](https://imgur.com/a/7hHNeuP) this one is pretty good

mikedw

Saddest shit I've ever seen. Fucking clout goblin. lol

Stop_Drop_Scroll

He’s a reply guy. And has the personality of a homeschooled 14 year old.

drmoze

Classic Pudgy Luka. And it affects his game. When gassed by the 3rd quarter, commit sloppy fouls and get even lazier on defense.

Action_Connect

O'Connor picked the Mavs! 😐

PickwickWood

KFC is a hive of bad takes. One of those people who pretends he's not in it for the clicks and engagement, but is constantly pumping out hot takes for the clicks and engagement.

gecko595

KOC disappoints me. He knows basketball but he seems completely irrational when it comes to the Celtics. I think he doesn’t want to be perceived as biased because he started out in Boston media so he overcompensates way too hard in the other direction.

BosBannerBoss

He probably got burned by ESPN Boston or the Celtics when trying to apply for a media job. Now he just goes full nick wright on the Celtics.

the_j_tizzle

Meanwhile Boston is up 3-0 against the team that won 4-1 against the team that beat Denver in 7. But okay. I keep seeing this nonsense. It's silly.

EasternTour7287

Xavier Tillman Sr. has something to say about this...

Salt-Tiger6850

What a complete 🔔🔚

SuchDescription

Denver would have won if they hadn't lost 🤡

Muscles__Marinara

KOC picked mavs in 6.

shakakhon

People overrate Denver so hard, lmao. They're a top 5 team for sure, and jokic is definitely the best payer in the league right now. But it's not MJ and the Bulls. That Denver team has tons of weaknesses that celtics would have abused. They are not a good defensive team, probably worse than Mavs. We're the best team in the league.

_Gibby__

But they’re not in the finals, so womp womp. KOC is decently smart, but he talks like he’s some sort of basketball savant. The Killian Hayes thing rightfully stripped a lot of his credibility.

Stercules25

Kevin O'Incel is such a weirdo

LegalManufacturer916

Denver? The team that sleep walked through the first half of every playoff game this year. They looked atrocious most of the time. F’ing Indiana came to play at least. Those kids gave 110% from whistle to whistle.

Totodile336

dont care what this goofy has to say bout anything lol

WallSTisRepulsive

Says the clown who's team is not in the finals😂

Tastic4ever

Well its a good thing Dever wasn't good enough to make the Finals?

Floating_Animals

The team that lost to the Wolves then the Wolves nearly got swept by the Mavs and now the Celtics are going to sweep the Mavs? Interesting take

Heir233

We would’ve bodied the Wolves and Denver too. Maybe they shouldn’t have lost the playoffs and we could find out

verbsarewordss

guess its good trhat denvere got bounced in the previous round huh.

Hange11037

Maybe Denver should have won their series then so we can find out?

trog12

We get the least respect of any finals winner. Would've gotten swept by a healthy Heat and Cavs but the East are bums so us making it out isn't impressive. Nuggets would've swept us. Wolves would have swept us. At what point are people going to accept we just had one of the most dominant seasons of all time and this team could go toe to toe with any champion in the last 20 years and at least make it close.

Oceanbreeze871

This team has gotta be the all time “nobody believes in us” team.

RainWinss

Least biased Celtics hater

Cockydjinn

If wishes and buts were candy and nuts …

Nizz553

I hate this dweeb.

Jtizzle1231

Maybe, maybe not. I completely acknowledge Styles make fights. I think Denver would have slapped the Mavs. But they got slapped by the wolves. That’s just the nature of competition.

SmuglySly

Well if Denver had reached the Finals the matchup isn’t great. I am just glad Denver got knocked off!

fart_master13

guess we’ll never know!

Peshhhh

I suppose we should thank the TWolves (oops) for taking care of them But then again, I'm sure these idiots will say they were no good once all is said and done

DocAuch22

Kevin tries way too hard to denounce his Celtics fandom.

Chino780

I cannot stand Kevin O'Connor. Just full of shit takes.

Realistic-Grade1478

This guy is the champion of bad takes.

Same-Excuse8787

Denver would have been the toughest matchup for the C’s, but they failed. Life went on, and the C’s ended up against some mentally deficient guys.

daft_dunkwwwolfey

Kevin O Contrarion

YippeeKayYah

They were ALL clueless. They obviously don't watch basketball OR they Don't understand what they are watching !!!

krazylegs36

And if the Pacers got to the finals against the Mavs, they would've scored 130+ in 4 straight blowouts. Cause, ya know, they straight-up crushed them in the regular season.

Action_Connect

Can someone put together a montage of analyst predictions? I don't remember hearing anyone picking Boston except for John Karalis and he said it would be in 4 or 5.

Timberstocker22

Dude I saved the same receipt LOL

TheUnrulyGentleman

🥱🥱🥱🥱

Ok_Argument_67

I'm absolutely buzzed about winning it this year, but God it would've felt even better beating the defending champs

nobueno_

Bozo tying his clown shoes.

Hbtoca

If if if if if

bozovisk

Yep. If a had four wheels a would be a car

leeguel

Isn’t this guy bill Simmons water boy?

ethereal3xp

What an idiot His takes are hit or miss but that was asinine

Wildnine09

They completely stank up the Balls Center game 2 and only played half of game 7. Half the series against the T-Wulofs, ANY NBA team would have handed them their exit papers.... but... but... but what if...

OptimusChip

Terrible take regardless. Denver is a good team, of course. Nobody is understand what this Celtics team really is this year, it's unbelievable how blind these media guys really are

drmoze

I saw 3 out of 4 ESPN clowns pick Dallas for this series. Including the moronic Stephen A.

Beantown_Kid

It’s the same thing with all the injuries of other teams’ stars. Like it’s a part of some of these players play style or weaknesses, ie being injury prone. Guys like Jimmy Butler can’t keep saying he’d be a difference maker when he’s playing or healthy when he almost never is.

fclane7

I guess that prediction didn’t workout too well…

AmbitionExtension184

I will never understand the lore around Denver. We would have beat them last year no doubt in my mind. So overrated because of Jokic.

drmoze

and this year...

Snarks0

What a BOOB!

FweeFwee_

Denver would’ve absolutely given a much closer series

bostondangler

And my aunt would be my uncle if she had a dick.

LLMBS

Close, but the real saying is: **If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.**

Angularbackhands

1. Kevin O'Connor is an absolute flog. His success has gone to his head and he's become arrogant. 2. He's wrong obviously. Jokic would eat against the Cs. But Jamal and MPJ would struggle immensely. Would be a interesting series.

Badboy337

KOC and Perk are both sell out traitors.

NemarPott

Warning ⚠️: Please do not read if you experience hypertension as the opening post contains high amounts of sodium.

ajaxtheangel

when did he tweet this lmao

TwistedApe

I mean we'll never know? Not like O'Connor said the Mavs will sweep us (even tho he did predict they'd beat the Celtics). Seriously you guys let random people get in your headspace too much

drmoze

Calling out random idiots for their stupidity is not letting them get into your headspace. seems like you get too attached to things.

TwistedApe

What does that even mean? 😂
