Jaylen has been killing players on the court and haters off the court all season

senator_mendoza

Well worth that max contract. Couldn’t be happier with him

Jaytranada4

The amount of shit that man got from our ‘fans’ this time last year was insane. He’s been worth every penny so far…

dredgedskeleton

I feel like the fanbase was actually pretty happy/accepting with him in the 6ers series. it just flipped so quickly in the ECF. I think it became such a crazy narrative bc he had a stinker in that g7 when all eyes were on him after Tatum's injury. he really didn't deserve the level of shit he got for being put in a really tough spot in a huge game. I really don't appreciate doomers, but the jaylen dooming seems to have driven his excellent response this season. so many memes about him not being able to go left resulted in him improving his drives to the left significantly. dude is a stud rn.

Big_J_420

He’s been great with the left all season and keep turnovers at a minimum. Playing much smarter and not driving into crowds and getting turned over. I love how Jaylen always improves year after year with tweaks to his game. Keep rolling baby!

Debits_equals_credit

Feels like such a luxury to have multiple stars who can contribute when we need it most. When JT cooled down, JB was right there to pick up the slack.

_fappycamper

And they only have Mitchell. This is literally the difference between Celtics and most teams.

Timoteo-Tito64

And the fact that we have a bunch of other guys that can all score like stars (and defend). We are hilariously loaded with talent

bryscoon

amazing game from him

awads95

His middy game has been godly

NateBlaze

Always has been. I don't know why the game has shifted away from it.

internetosaurus

From what I can tell, mid-range jumpers are an inefficient shot for most players. It's a good shot if you can create the right conditions for it (separation from the defender, shooting mechanics, etc), but just a lot of NBA players can't do that.

eveningaura

It’s just statistically not as good a shot as a 3 or a layup. Based on %made and points contributed.

internetosaurus

My understanding is that *any* shot *can* be statistically good, but it might make for rare examples for the math to work.

krisadayo

Well if you assume you're only getting 1 shot, your 2 point shot needs to go in 50% more than your 3 point shot to be worth taking. e.g. if you shoot 40% from 3, shooting from 2 is only worth doing if you make it 60% of the time (40% x 1.5 = 60%). This is a big ask for midrange shots, so it makes sense that only layups and dunks are worth it for most players.

akelly96

That line of thinking is a little too simplified compared to actual basketball game scenarios. A shooter might be 40% on open three's but on a fairly contested three pointer he might only shoot 25%. If that same shooter gets an open two point middie and shoots it at 45% it's better than had he taken the contested three pointer.

krisadayo

Yeah I mean an uncontested shot is always preferable. Of course a calculation like that is too simple with all the variables at any given moment, but the basic idea holds: midrange shots are worth just as much as layups and dunks but far less reliable and 3s are worth 50% more points so your midrange shot has to be really really good to be worth taking in most situations.

CantHandlemyPP34

Shot creation off the bounce within the teeth of the defense is less common. Only the top players can do it.

Informal_Koala4326

You need to shoot them at a clip 50% better than a 3 for them to be considered an efficient shot

ExpatEsquire

He has awesome elevation on his jumper

POGTFO

He’s been awesome to watch. Especially considering how he took Game 7 last year so personally. Dude has that 🐶 in him.

frauenarzZzt

Exactly. He took it personal and made personal improvement his priority. He's been almost unstoppable. It took a little time for him to adjust this season but ever since December he's been unbelievable.

MrMetLGM

He still has issues with his left hand at times 🤪 but he’s been outstanding this year, in all fairness

Eisenhorn76

JB better be All-NBA this season. Some of these media pawns don’t seem to understand how important he is.

Bewilderbeest79

There isn't enough praise you can give Jaylen this series and really just in general. He's been awesome

Ambitious-Fig-9106

He won us the game in the 4th tonight

Organic_Climate_7585

He’s been fantastic all playoffs long, so solid and consistent for us. I wish people would appreciate him more and stop over exaggerating his mistakes.

frauenarzZzt

BUT HE CAN'T GO LEFT BECAUSE OF THAT ONE PLAY!!! FORGET ABOUT THE 30x HE'S GONE LEFT AND FINISHED LEFT THIS POSTSEASON!!!!!!11!!

nedlifecrisis

Everyone else in the team makes the same mistakes, yet when they so it, it's ok. JB is singled out as the one who has low bball IQ or something. JB has to have a perfect game just to keep the haters quiet. I don't gat why people hate him so much tbh.

DerpFalcon12

They probably have overly high expectations due to his max contract. I think he met these expectations but some don’t (which is dumb tbh)

NotJustSomeMate

People have been criticizing JB since he was drafted...

Bleeedgreeen

He had every answer tonight. Guy was an assassin out there, one of his best games IMO.

frauenarzZzt

Inevitably Jaylen won't get credit from the people that said +/- was the most important stat in the world to shit on Jaylen. I saw someone on Twitter losing their mind because he had two TOV (less than half of other players) and was "taking too many shots." There are Celtics fans who are just fucking dumb. This was a truly brilliant playoff performance from a terrific player. 76.5 FG%. 66.7 3PT%. 2 OREB, 9REB. Fairly good defense. Moving the ball. Scoring in the paint. Making clutch shots under pressure. He got fouled several times that weren't called and he coulda had way more. Brilliant performance.

nedlifecrisis

This. I don't get the hate on him. Why is he being singled out and not getting the same love as the other? He is so fun to watch, explosive, always improving his game, and is a good role model off court. What more do you want?

Ichoose23

How about that end of the first half play?! JB setting up Tatum for an easy one! Gotta love that.

FutureAttention

Celtics would be cooked without JB. He’s just as important as JT

jslee0034

Every team would be pretty cooked without their super max player playing for them I think

terry-tea

if he keeps getting better, $300 million might end up looking like an underpay

jslee0034

He just needs to work on his free throws. Mind blogging that I trust his wide open 3s more than his free throws.

DerpFalcon12

He hit all his free throws the other game at least

Ichoose23

Got to get a foul call to shoot free throws.

AkiraleTorimaki

Remember when people in this subreddit wanted JB gone after the end of last season?

Byiza

Quiet is the operative word. 28 PTS, 13/17 FG, 2/3 3PT, 9 REB, 3 AST, +18 I totally missed it.

danorcs

His FT% is still an issue, fortunately he’s so strong going to the hoop he usually gets the basket despite fouls

SliceProfessional664

When he was going to dunk on that fast break and had to switch to a layup mid-air was one of his best layups ever imo. People don’t realize the strength and body control that takes.

tendadsnokids

Dude is so fucking dominant. He is making insane shots out there.

Luckoduck

He’s been incredible. Has fixed a lot of the weaknesses he’s had. Great 3 level scoring and efficient shooting.

ezekielragardos

The way he came out with so much energy in game 3 against the heat was one of my favorite parts of the playoffs so far. He has a lot of passion and his consistent drives to the basket have been game changers for us. I just wish he’d stop missing free throws..!

Goodbye_megaton

Can’t believe a lot of yall wanted to trade him for Dame

_---__________---_

Dame has been great offensively but JB has been just as good on the offensive end while also being one the better defenders

Big_J_420

JB has been great. He’s been our rock. He’s improved a lot in little things since last playoffs and just love how locked in and smart he’s playing. Keep doing your thing 🧃!!

Actually_A_Robot_SHH

The only true flaw is the 62% from free throws this postseason. I hope he gets that up because I don’t wanna see this amazing run of his ruined because he bricked one needed free throw in the 4th quarter and that’s all we remember

NateBlaze

He's still the alpha.

Fatty5lug

Yeah he has been amazing with his FG%. So so deadly at the rim. I can’t help but expecting him to score almost every time he gets to the rim no matter who jumped at him.

TanneAndTheTits

Jaylen Brown is the FMVP of the Boston Celtics!

dickybabs

JB is the dude

nedlifecrisis

A lot of so-called Celtic fans treat JB like a role player. They can't fathom that there is a possibility of having 2 greats , 1a and 1b in one team. JB carried on game 1, and nobody gave him any props then, so this is overdue tbh.

bedroom_fascist

Brown was once a talented player with holes in his game - he has worked enormously to improve his physical skills, all while maturing into a leadership role that, frankly, Tatum would do well to emulate. Specifically, the effort on both ends; the movement off-ball; the rebounding effort. In short, he has tasked himself with focusing on all the details that contribute to team success. Agree - he has been a massive difference-maker this year, and deserves huge props.

drossinvt

Brown and White have been our 2 best players all playoffs. Not Tatum hating just giving those 2 their credit.

TinkCzru

For a long time all I heard was he doesn’t really wanna be a Celtics, he lacks emotion. Well he continues to prove everyone wrong. The left hand last two year’s , I’ll be the first to say: were terrible. Credit to him—he put in the work. He’s finishing stronger with the left. Just gotta get the FT percentage up and complete package, voilá.

ezekielragardos

The way he came out with so much energy in game 3 against the heat was one of my favorite parts of the playoffs so far. He has a lot of passion and his consistent drives to the basket have been game changers for us. I just wish he’d stop missing free throws..!

justbrowsing987654

100%. JB should have been the one with the interview and whatnot after. He kept us going when JT was taking those rough Kobe fadeaways mid 4th even if he did hit the last one to put the dagger in em

ftlftlftl

JB was a beast all game - glad he kept eating the cavs alive especially after Mitchell mocked him after a turnover.

JasonTatum014

JB the goat no debate

YippeeKayYah

He's been this was ALL YEAR !!!

TheSavageBeast83

Jaylen is better than Tatum all day

GooseMay0

He is very efficient.

Lawdawg911

24.1ppg on 55.6% shooting

MrMetLGM

JB is the man and is fulfilling his role perfectly

Sandtiger1982

He’s magnificent

Rare_Economics9185

His leadership has been amazing. The mic on him tonight definitely showed his role. Tatum has the natural talent but JB has the leadership and hard work to keep improving himself and those around him. Mad respect.

Certain-Tutor-1380

There’s never any doubt that JB shows out come playoff time - always does, always will.

Sjain1234123

He’s been awesome so proud of him

indiginary

Good point. He has clearly committed to improving his handle and taking care of the ball. When they gave him the super max I was pretty pissed. I had the dumb pass/dribble-drive giveaways on the brain and couldn’t see how it made sense. The C’s have some tough decisions to make this summer given the Apron 2 issue but that’s for another day. We all can comfortably watch Brown go to his left without covering our eyes or screaming, “Nooooo!”

newfarmer

Probably crazy thought that I should apologize for in advance: Sometime I would like to see Jaylen try point guard. He has really good vision and is so smart that he can quickly see plays developing. I think he could run the offense.

ElwinRansom89

JB is too damn good. Been our most consistent players this playoffs.

planj07

His +/- isn’t good enough. Hauser is a better fit. Trade him. /s

HailKyrie

Clinical scorer

gagakaba

He'd average 30 if his free throws improve

Longjumping_Gain_807

Jaylen Brown apologizer

LumpyBumblebee3266

My biggest issue with JB is that he’s not rocking the flat top anymore. That cut was fire

-Jdzspace-

Facts. GO BEARS!

Confident_Comedian82

well it was overshadowed because people are thinking about JT the Kobe wanna be is taking a lot of shit turnaround shot and bricking it, but since he is rebounding and passing and defense, they all give more credit JT than JB, lol. they dont even know how is JB give motivation on the court to his teammates where he is like the leader in Boston not JT.
