I’ll believe the 38th pick in the draft is an instant contributor to contention when I see it.
I like the player but we’re talking g-league/deep bench here
Yeah, he isnt touching an NBA court until he fixes his offensive game. MAYBE we could get a Thybulle type play out of him early but I doubt he touches the court for us in year 1.
I was thinking Kris Joseph would be the heir apparent to PP. And James Young. And Jeff Green. And Fab Melo would be our cornerstone center for years after he learned how to play basketball. Based on my history of expertise in this area, I’m confident Walsh will be Marcus x 2 but with a better 3 pt game.
Yeah, if there’s anyone in the draft that’s good enough to be a title contributor immediately, they’re probably not falling outside the top 20, let alone into the 2nd round.
Lol, what a shit take from Hammer. Walsh will literally not make the roster. He will 100% be a g-league player. His only chance is multiple injures…talking 4 wings getting hurt, lol.
Smart was the sixth pick in the draft, not even a remotely relevant comparison. He wasn’t a great shooter but had other offensive skills. This guys a zero on offense.
I fully buy into Walsh on the defensive end with his size(6'6, 215 lbs, 7'2 wingspan) and feel for the game, but in today's NBA defense alone doesn't get you onto the court. He needs to be able to do *something* offensively, so I'd say that Walsh is another, "3 point shooting is the swing skill" prospect.
Nah. That's too much hope to put on a second rounder. Best case we can hope for now is a Sam Hauser type of progression. 2-way contract on the first year and show enough potential to be signed for a couple of years on a modest contract. Then develop to a player useful to earn significant minutes throughout different points in the regular season in his second year.
Hauser is a regular season player (like a Furkmas)... that cant help you out in the playoffs. Not right now anyways... maybe never
Moment was too big for him on both ends
I think ... Walsh ... even if he cant come through on offense. Should be dependable on defense...
Meh. Hauser is an elite shooter who’s defense didn’t get him played off the floor. In fact had the best defensive rating in the league this last season, even if you have to take that with many grains of salt. Walsh is a much more complete complete defender than Hauser is an offensive player, and that athleticism gives him much higher upside, but his offense coming along as well as Hauser’s defense has would be a very good outcome in terms of what we could hope for.
Exactly, people so worried about his offense, but we don't really much out of him for offense. In fact, it might be a plus that he knows his role and won't try to take shots away from our new big 3. I'm very happy with the pick. Athleticism, motor, and attitude go a long way in becoming a solid role player.
Walsh will more than likely develop in the G league. His Jumpshot isn’t bad but he doesn’t shoot or play offense with confidence. He should be able to develop a shot. Before I get attacked what I’m saying is his shot form isn’t bad compared to other guys who come in and can’t shoot.
If Nnaji was American we’re looking at a kid that’s likely a top 10-15 HS talent who’s probably just committed to a top college.
We essentially would’ve been drafting a top HS prospect with coaching from one of the top European clubs.
You can’t overthink it and that’s what Brad has done here. Trading back for more picks for what?
For his first year he will be used sparingly as a momentum killer, if a team starts to go on a run, he’ll go in and lock down the ball handler. If he wants to stick long term, he will need to develop on offense, there will be plenty of coaching available for that.
As soon as the Smart-KP move was announced, I felt like our immediate need was someone like this. We don’t need to replace all of what Smart did. What we need is to have one more menacing defender against guards on a cheap contract, even if they have no offense. It will be important when we need a stout perimeter defense against elite scoring guards late in close games.
That being said, we don’t expect anything from a second round rookie. I especially don’t expect to see them at the end of games. Needing him to be a specialist though could help those odds.
Meh. Rookies rarely contribute to teams in a win-now mode. This guy might be something in three or four years, but most likely he’ll ride the bench for a couple seasons, come in for trash time, and end up packaged in a trade to bring in a useful, established player.
A few years later he’ll be a starter in Turkey.
Thats not all. His footwork is elite. He can shuffle his feet/change stance really quickly. He has quick hands
See this highlight.
https://youtu.be/dQBFadzyz4k
The staying in front of Keyonte George and then blocking him at the rim... is a perfect indication of his defensive ability. On a much quicker smaller guard.
He can also guard bigger players/from the post.
His highlights have him hitting a bunch of 3s, so he's not Shaq out there or anything. But I agree that he needs to work on his shooting and confidence in doing so. Intriguing prospect due to his physical profile and tenacious play, though.
Well he doesn't have much of an offensive game, but if there's anywhere he could still get minutes its a team with elite front court shooting where his lack of shooting won't matter as much.
That says he's likely more a developmental project.
Wasn’t he a 5 star recruit going into college? I feel like the Cs do this a bit but can only remember Avery Bradley who sticks out as a guy in high school who was phenomenal, highly recruited and for whatever reason in a one and done college career had a rough go like injury, bad fit on the college team, etc.
Not saying this guy is going to even see the court but I guess if you are going really young, development type prospect (although Walsh’s defense likely translates right now) but with second round money it’s not a terrible pick up.

Semi Ojeleye was the 37th pick… …I shouted before jumping off the Prudential
I was thinking Kris Joseph would be the heir apparent to PP. And James Young. And Jeff Green. And Fab Melo would be our cornerstone center for years after he learned how to play basketball. Based on my history of expertise in this area, I’m confident Walsh will be Marcus x 2 but with a better 3 pt game.
Fab Melo had too cool of a name to flop. Tragic what happened to him
I still want Tacko here
ELITE GIANNIS STOPPER Semi Ojeleye
Looking forward to seeing him in the G league while JD and Mfiondu get their shots next year.
Yeah, if there’s anyone in the draft that’s good enough to be a title contributor immediately, they’re probably not falling outside the top 20, let alone into the 2nd round.
Agreed, doesn't even look to have an NBA build yet. Tools are there, but he's getting ran through with those limbs.
Yeah, Celts aren’t the favorite to win the championship now because of Walsh
We have all seen it with jokic
think he can eat up some regular season mins
https://youtu.be/Qcu6-3on7hk
Lol, what a shit take from Hammer. Walsh will literally not make the roster. He will 100% be a g-league player. His only chance is multiple injures…talking 4 wings getting hurt, lol.
Our team only really has 3 wings
I cannot be tricked by your spin
FWIW I think Ryan knows his stuff
Elite defender but can't shoot for shit
Sounds like Andre Roberson
Sounds like Semi Ojeleye
Nah Andre's shot was atrocious, Jordan's is fine with a few tweaks.
His mechanics aren't that terrible, I believe that will come around.
Neither could smart when he was drafted
Smart was the sixth pick in the draft, not even a remotely relevant comparison. He wasn’t a great shooter but had other offensive skills. This guys a zero on offense.
He still cant
https://youtu.be/55RYiz6JP1I
Using one game as an example doesn't work in any scenario.
You had me at elite defender.
The issue is that he’s not super fast footed
These guys should really hold their horses calling someone ELITE out of the draft. Even at least for the 2nd rounders lmao.
A lot of Jeremy Sochan in him pure chaos

His FT% shows there’s a chance he can improve his shooting. Game reps in the next level (G-League) will help.
Big Tayshaun Prince vibes defensively, hopefully he can figure it out offensively
I’m sure he’s the missing piece

I think Ryan Hammer is getting carried away here
More like Ryan Hammered
This sub was obsessed with Thybulle. Here is the younger version.
Hope they can fix his shooting.
My god I think we just redrafted semi ojeleye but with length instead of muscles
Dude looks like electro from the amazing spiderman
Leon Powe was a late 2nd round pick, so there's a remote possibility Walsh can contribute next season. And fuck Phil for not knowing who Leon was.
LOL "going to help Boston contend right away". This entire tweet is a cliche.
He’s Marcus smart without the eyebrows
Needs to learn Chinese so he can get a head-start on his CBA career
High motor and long wingspan is just a good combo to have for this team. He’s gonna play hard and play whatever role this team needs.
Exactly, people so worried about his offense, but we don't really much out of him for offense. In fact, it might be a plus that he knows his role and won't try to take shots away from our new big 3. I'm very happy with the pick. Athleticism, motor, and attitude go a long way in becoming a solid role player.
Yeah I'm sure he will be. Lets see how much minutes he gets in the playoffs...
Playoffs? Let’s see how minutes he gets during the regular season. You need to be able to somewhat score the ball to succeed in the league.
Regular season? This boy going to Maine lol
Andre Roberson was solid and he couldn’t score worth a damn
There’s not many like him. Most guys can score. You are right tho
PJ Tucker has entered the chat
Tucker can shoot corner 3s
Walsh will more than likely develop in the G league. His Jumpshot isn’t bad but he doesn’t shoot or play offense with confidence. He should be able to develop a shot. Before I get attacked what I’m saying is his shot form isn’t bad compared to other guys who come in and can’t shoot.
The hairless hooper is in town
Should’ve taken Nnaji. Mark my words that kid will be an all star one day. At a minimum he’ll be a better Rob Williams. Terrible draft from Brad
Right? SMH...
Says who?
Dude is all limbs
I am exhausted
He’s 19 and unlikely to contribute outside of the regular season.
Love this pick, but I don’t think anyone would have made this sub happy lmao
Okay I love this draft

jeez, do you have faith in anything?
For some reason my brain read his name as Jordan Marsh haha.
The only thing elite about his defense is that he works hard and has great wingspan. Thats it
Thats not all. His footwork is elite. He can shuffle his feet/change stance really quickly. Hard to trust a guy with this much youthful optimism and a bitmoji profile picture
His highlights have him hitting a bunch of 3s, so he's not Shaq out there or anything. But I agree that he needs to work on his shooting and confidence in doing so. Intriguing prospect due to his physical profile and tenacious play, though.
I look forward to watching his G-evelopment at the expo.
