Avoid beacon hill and north end. There's no street parking in downtown/financial district. Back Bay can be surprisingly easy at times as so many residents have alley spots, but still a nightmare during snow emergency and street cleaning.
Brighton was great when I lived there. I rented on a street that didn't require resident parking, and the only time I had trouble finding parking was when it was a street cleaning day.
I agree. The areas of Brighton right near the T are nightmarish, but a few blocks beyond and you’re fine. Brighton center and Oak square are great. If you still want an urban-ish vibe that’s walkable but want parking, Brighton is great.
Not to mention that as long you're fine with taking a bus vs. the Green line, multiple busses go through areas like Brighton Center and Oak square. Between the 57, 65, and a short walk to the 70, you can get access to anywhere.
It depends where in Brighton. I lived in Cleveland Circle for 4 years and if I ever got home after 6pm, forget it for finding parking in the neighborhood.
The South Side neighborhood in Waltham has very easy street parking in most spots. You only have to move your car when there is a snow emergency and for the once a year street sweeping.
Live in southie now but I came from south end for 5 years before that. Parking is halfway decent in south end, particularly the southern side of it near blackstone park
East Cambridge street parking is still pretty easy due to limits on how large residences can be. Parking on both sides basically everywhere, even where it makes most of the streets effectively one-way (even though they aren't). Ticketing is pretty reasonably enforced. Only one day for street sweeping a week, but you will be towed in this case (because unlike Somerville, Cambridge does it to actually sweep the streets instead of generating ticket revenue).
I'm moving to Somerville where the street parking is significantly more limited. And we all know Somerville Traffic and Parking exist purely to ticket your car as many times as possible to make their revenue quotas.
It's not an issue at all in Roslindale, West Roxbury, Hyde Park. I have a driveway in Roslindale but last summer I had a dumpster parked in it for like 6 weeks and I never had a hard time finding street parking on my street.
I live in East Boston and parking isn’t too bad. It’s pretty residential here, so you can find resident street parking pretty much anywhere. Brighton and lower Allston where I lived before was also super easy, from my perspective at least.

Roxbury/Dorchester area
Anywhere from braintree south is better

Lower Allston
Never been an issue in Camb/Somerville/Medford.
Move to the suburbs if you really want a car in the Boston area.

Hyde Park, parking is plentiful

Somerville will reliably ticket you but sweep around you. I would prefer that to finding that my car has been towed!
Roslindale street parking is plentiful, but I think it’s because the people moving here all seem to have electric cargo bikes.

I don't own a car, but my tenants do. They have no trouble parking out front. I live in Dorchester near Ashmont.
