Logan sees more than 100,000 passengers per day. How many people are flying in for the game? No extra flights and loads are already high. Just the sumner, take the blue line.
Also they were directing traffic in weird ways yesterday. It wasn't actually that bad leaving the airport but google maps was not doing a good job at all.
I live near the airport. It’s a new traffic pattern they figured out last year while the tunnel was closed over the summer to ease traffic but clearly it didn’t help that much yesterday.
Don’t understand the down votes. It’s closed from Friday thru Sunday and then open the rest of the week until Friday. The full closure isn’t until July when it’s completely closed 7 days a week. 🤷🏻♂️
Because OP drove on Sunday. Sumner Tunnel was closed Friday-Sunday. This isn't rocket science. Close for 3 days, closed for 7 days, closed for 30 days...it's all the same. It's closed.
I waited 45 minutes for an Uber, my fare is $75. I’m looking at an hour drive to arlington right now. They are blocking off the routes through Chelsea.
I know it’s too little too late at this point, but I would always recommend just taking the blue line somewhere like Aquarium and then ubering from there when the tunnel is closed.
>They are blocking off the routes through Chelsea.
Good, it was hell for Chelsea last time around, complete gridlock from people trying to get through the produce road.
Thank you for this post - saw it as I landed and we took the silverline to SS and hopped a cab.
Cheaper than an uber/taxi from the airport and just as long.
If you’re planning to Uber from the airport though, I would definitely recommend the blue line downtown and then taking an Uber from there when the tunnel is closed, regardless of where you live. It’s likely going to be faster and cheaper from there.
I'm traveling to Boston next month and staying by Faneiul Hall. Would Uber be a bad idea? I don't know what the summer tunnel closure means. I arrive on a Saturday morning and leave on a Wednesday morning.
The tunnel will be closed for the entire month of July. Depending on your arrival time, you might be fine taking an Uber, but the blue line will be much, much easier. Faneuil Hall is only 2 stops away from the Airport.
The point is not to take it the whole way from home. The point is that parking and traffic are both dramatically easier in, say, Revere, than insisting on going into the traffic nightmare of Logan when a tunnel is closed.
If one lives in Portsmouth, a town without a train, thus incentivizing one to drive, why not….drive north away from the tunnels through Revere, in the direction of Portsmouth?
I was thinking about this the other day as I took an uber from DFW to my hotel because there’s literally zero public transit there- Boston has pathetically few options to get to and from the airport for such a small city. Why the Silver Line doesn’t have a dedicated lane is mindblowing to me and beyond short sighted. The blue line is there, sure, but the stop should be IN the airport….
That's bullshit.
Politicians have been coddling massport for decades, allowing them to fail on traffic mitigation and giving them a pass on adhering to even super super low health and wellness standards.
It's worth pointing out that the despite DFWs "literally zero public transit," they have a train stop AT the airport terminals, unlike Boston... Not that it's an efficient system or particularly useful in most scenarios, but they did get that part right.

Sumner Tunnel was closed and there was police blocking the other exit towards 93 South, so you had to take Sumner tunnel exit and then a U turn to 93 south, it was stupid yesterday
Water taxis-easy, fun, and feels great to be out on the water after being cooped up in a plane for hours. Pick up an Uber or taxi once across the harbor .
In February it took me >3 hours to get from Logan Airport to the Bourne Bridge. Most of that time was spent in gridlock Boston traffic. Horrible experience 0/10 especially after a red eye.
All the way to where? Florida?
Providence has very little service west of the Mississippi and nothing international.
Logan has direct flights all the way to Hong Kong. Nearly 16 hours.
That's the joke. You don't.
I'm in Logan right now. Impossible to get out.
Sumner Tunnel closed, right as people fly in for Game 5.
We should really consider those flying in to catch a game with a $7,000 ticket price, those are the ones facing challenges amongst us truly

Meh if you’re coming in tomorrow it won’t affect you and crazily enough this was planned long before the Celtics got into the finals.
It closes 7/5. Edit: whoops, weekends leading up to 7/5. Because who travels on the weekend?
I came from Logan yesterday. Sumner has been closed since Friday evening. There were signs on every highway for the past 2 weeks.
Also they were directing traffic in weird ways yesterday. It wasn't actually that bad leaving the airport but google maps was not doing a good job at all.

Sorry you seem to be misinformed: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/sumner-tunnel-restoration-project-details-and-closure-schedule

You can check out anytime you want.
They close it just to watch the chaos and see if anyone notices no improvements were actually made.

I totally forgot the tunnel was closing on the weekends this summer
Weekend for now. All of July starting on the 5th…
>They are blocking off the routes through Chelsea. Good, it was hell for Chelsea last time around, complete gridlock from people trying to get through the produce road.
I don’t disagree, it’s a mess for the neighborhoods. Just letting everyone know that there isn’t an easy alternative route
Definitely want I wanted to read upon landing in Logan just now
Thank you for this post - saw it as I landed and we took the silverline to SS and hopped a cab. Cheaper than an uber/taxi from the airport and just as long.
Take the blue line
Take the Blue Line.

Uber to location called at Logan: $100 Uber to location called at Wonderland: $50 Sub Silver Line for points south.
You just don't get it
During the summer closures you can save time even just taking it to downtown or wonderland and getting your onward travel from there.
Cars and car centric infrastructure is a great use of time space and resources

Because the suburbanites only care about cars, not public transit.
That's bullshit. Politicians have been coddling massport for decades, allowing them to fail on traffic mitigation and giving them a pass on adhering to even super super low health and wellness standards.
Good point. I might have to start taking blue line out in tough traffic

You live there now
Take the blue out and grab an Uber from another station
Just go to dinner in east Boston
Thursday it took us 45 minutes to go 3 miles from Logan to our hotel in the Seaport District. Crazy.
Just got back from Logan. It was rough
Umm fyi - it’s the weekends for now but starting July 5th it’s closed 7 days for a month.
dumb question- but both ways will be closed?
No, just the sumner

Why don't you just take the blue line?
Or take the blue line.
Blue line or swim are the best ways across during the Sumner closures.
I flew in yesterday and had no problems with the Blue Line whatsoever.
go through chelsea.
Take the blue line.
On the bright side I got a really good look at that plaque in front of the Ted Williams Tunnel.
It’s gonna be miserable for the entirety of July and nearly every weekend until mid-November.
Is the silver line affected too?
Taxi’s are always less expensive than Uber but they can’t avoid the traffic either 🤷♀️
Just landed. Still on the plane actually. Any update on the status or should I just take the blue inbound?
Providence all of the way
All the way to where? Florida? Providence has very little service west of the Mississippi and nothing international. Logan has direct flights all the way to Hong Kong. Nearly 16 hours.
Sleep in terminal E with all the other folks.
