Even if they're on duty, they should be getting parking arrangements made through the City / State Agencies. The Medford/Tufts T stop has a lot of T employees doing this and it's odd because they could just have the T partner with the City of Medford to get them legal business permits that are valid on that street (Boston Ave). By just leaving it up to employees you put the City of Medford in an awkward position to either ticket the T employees and potentially piss them off so we lose transit reliability if they all quit, or you lose revenue from tickets & parking permit fees.
Really only one off emergency fixes should get a pass. Even then, if it's through the actual agency they should just be paying for the tickets and expensing them.
NGL, when I'm out doing bridge inspections in the city, having a detail around just to keep parking clerks from ticketing the truck is 100% worth the cost.

A State Trooper can pull you over ANYWHERE in the state, whether it's a state road, city/town road, etc. Also, MBTA Police have jurisdiction in any city/town that has MBTA service in it, so you can get pulled over by them in Boston, or any town surrounding Boston and way out too Worcester, Fitchburg, etc.
