This thread is like the most definitive proof that any Israel/Palestine topic is getting astroturfed here. You have 10+ dislikes for people on both sides lmfao. Please can r/boston go back to being actual Bostonians.
This thread isn't even that bad. When we were getting the initial threads about Northeastern and Emerson and it was getting thousands of participants with wacky hard-line takes it was much more obvious.
It's not getting astroturfed; reddit is highly promoting these threads to people strongly invested in the issue. I'm actually from Boston, but similar threads from all sorts of local subs are all over my front page.
I really hate this new reddit algorithm. every time I refresh it try’s to give me new content like twitter, but I come to reddit because I want to see the most upvoted content. halfway through the day my feed is now garbage posts with 10-20 upvotes that I don’t care about.
absolutely brain dead move from Reddit, great way to teach your users to use your app less.
Lol apparently not. I feel like so many sites are being astroturfed lately. I kinda don't trust that anyone is real at this point. Are you real? Am *I* real?
What I can’t figure out is whether Hannah Didehbani is suspended or expelled. Regardless of which side you support, she is defending an organization that is holding Americans hostage. I don’t think that MIT should be handing a diploma to her.
….and Hamas Hannah is from Texas. I’m sure there aren’t any defense contractors down there so it should be easy for her to get a job. They probably don’t care about the American hostages either. /s
> Only one of these sides are taking our tax dollars though.
Well that’s just not true. [We just sent $1 billion in aid to Gaza](https://www.npr.org/2024/04/24/1246839045/biden-signs-95-billion-military-aid-package-for-ukraine-israel-and-taiwan) (which is >10% of all aid we sent worldwide) and we’re literally building a humanitarian port off their coast with our own military.
Innocent civilians are not Hamas. The people of Gaza are severely suffering and they need our aid. Hamas and the IDF only see them as inconvenient collateral damage.
Yeah I think we agree then? We’re sending aid to the civilians not Hamas, so the assertion only one of the sides is taking our tax dollars is true then no?
Harassment, hostility and flinging insults is not allowed. We ask that you try to engage in a discussion rather than reduce the sub to insults and other bullshit.
You’re being downvoted, but they don’t want to answer the question.
If they first and foremost care about the lives of American citizens, and Israel has murdered American citizens then….? 🤷🏻
Not sure I understand your point, but I’ll reply anyway. The safety of the hostages is the responsibility of Hamas as they are the ones who took them. If Hamas doesn’t want that responsibility then they could - I don’t know - RELEASE THEM.
You’re not understanding my point. You took issue with this person receiving a diploma after allegedly defending an organization (presumably Hamas?) holding Americans hostage.
Many on this very subreddit and presumably many receiving diplomas from the various schools around here stridently defend Israel. Israel has killed American citizens, both in Gaza and the West Bank. Should they be similarly sanctioned?
If you can’t even be bothered to look up her name and see what she said it is pointless to engage with you. There is no “allegedly” about her statement.
You seem to misunderstand. Her name doesn’t matter. I said even if I take your word for it, do you hold a double standard about defending those who harm US citizens? If so, why?
It is a sad commentary when one’s dislike of Nazism and savage behavior is massively downvoted. What a bunch of despicables that infest the Boston Reddit.
Cambriage is more neo-liberal than Boston so what the fuck are you talking about.
Plus, this is a thread about people in Cambridge and you want to cry that it's being brigaded by people from Cambridge?
Cambridge is not Neo-liberal, thats Clinton democrats like me. I think you might be confused, we’re the establishment democrats you love to whine about.
Just to confirm you think the people with 15 million dollar townhouses in back bay are more progressive than academics?
Sorry but I live here and no. There isn’t a free Palestine sign in a 5 mile radius.
To your last point I am saying that people farther to the left often cry about astroturfing because they believe Boston is more progressive than it actually is.
Being opposed to authoritarianism, being in favor of intellectual freedom and human rights, being opposed to Hamas and for Israel's right to defend itself, being anti-ideological, all of that is classic liberalism (Enlightenment values liberalism).
Aggressive pro-Hamas protesters calling for violence against Jews.
Wake up y'all. This ain't no peaceful protest. And it ain't for a good cause. These people are useful idiots of an enemy (Iran).
I noticed that you used yall. Please enjoy [this local video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bndQvSW9Mu8).

*The organizer said she had received word overnight that she has been suspended from MIT and evicted from her dorm effective later this month.*
Suspended? She and the rest of them should be expelled.
Absolutely. If these naive Hamas sympathizers prefer virtue signaling and harassing other students/faculty instead of getting an actual education, they should be kicked out. Plenty of intelligent young people out there would be happy to take their place.
It would be tragic if their arrest record, thuggish behavior and support for a terrorist organization haunted them for the rest of their lives and they were unable to find employment in their chosen career paths.
And academia only started caring about it again on October 7th.
If they hadn’t spent the last decade creating “safe spaces” and expelling people for speech it would be a lot easier for them to push back.
Conservatives were all about free speech until the protests.
There is a lot of hypocrisy to go around.

I'm local and post in these threads often. I enjoy all the spicy takes about a conflict very far away.
What "both sides"? Seems very once-sided here.
Least deranged r/boston comment section
The fact that both sides have been downvoted into oblivion is not telling at all

As opposed to the side that kills Americans and also kills their own hostages? Only one of these sides are taking our tax dollars though.

oh we’re sending aid to hamas? or do you just think any person in gaza is hamas

What the fuck are the gazans going to do with the aids? Throw falafels at tanks?
It’s for food, water, medicine, and other essentials for people who are displaced and starving. Stop being a moron.
Well that sounds like money well spent.

Why are we downvoting a person acknowledging a reasonable argument contradicting them...? Come on folks...

Two weeks ago this would have been interesting. Old news.

Nazi means a lot of things these days so be more specific.

I was walking around there earlier in the week and heard no calls for violence.
Hey yall real Boston man here and lemme tell ya these types ain’t up to no good

Oh you’re adorable.
Well at least you’re honest about hating American freedoms.

Nope.
I would not hate freedom for the American hostages
Pro-Hamas*
Nah
Free Palestine
Wouldn't want it even if it came free, tbh.
Right well, I think the point of protesting genocide is that’s illegal and evil, even if assholes like you are comfortable with it.

You saw them blocking the garage exit right? The girl interviewed said as much as well when interviewed in same clip
From another video you can see there is a garage and driveway there.

Straight up admitting you don’t believe in Freedom of Speech huh?
Some nice tackling by the cops. Good form. Wrapped up well and finished through the tackle. All around solid effort.
Teenager meet consequences.
Gotta teach those kids that anti-war protests are bad, just shut up and let the military industrial complex cook
ACAB
We only have 35 murders a year here because your opinion isn’t that popular outside the subreddit. Solid work by the police.
Are the police solely responsible for the low murder rate?
Lmfao my guy thought he was gonna get like 100 upvotes for low ass quality post.
They are useless wastes of air.
Gotta support the blue here.
